We used to be Jameson regulars, but our most recent visit was likely our last visit. Quality, service, and ambiance have all decreased as of late. Both of the last two times we've been in, I've ordered the beef Wellington special, and both times it's arrived inedibley raw. The first time this happened (celebrating our anniversary), the puff pastry appeared cooked on top but was raw underneath and the meat was still cold inside. I sent it back and asked for it to be finished. They clearly slapped the cut side of the meat on a hot pan to sear it and returned it with the puff pastry dough still raw. I opted to send it back again and just nibble on my husband's prime rib instead of having them attempt to cook the Wellington for a third time. A manager checked in on us after my husband had finished his meal and we'd already paid our bill (the server did have the Wellington removed from it). Mistakes happen, so we gave it another go. This most recent time, the puff pastry was obviously underdone when it arrived at the table (so much so that I told my husband I was pretty sure I was cutting into an uncooked steak), and when I cut into the Wellington, it was still cold and raw. Not rare. Not blue. Raw. I opted not to have them try it again after two hours of waiting, and instead ordered a simple pasta dish which was mediocre at best. Given the variability in temperature within the dish, I have a strong suspicion it may have been microwaved. My husband's steak (ordered medium rare) was barely blue, with sections he didn't eat because it was undercooked. Our appetizer (potato skins) never made it to the table, and the pasta in the chicken noodle soup was still crunchy. It was not particularly busy, but our server rarely checked on us, and we spent portions of the meal with nothing to drink. He never noticed or inquired about the appetizer. No manager ever checked in on us, even after having to send a raw meal back. What was once a staple in our restaurant rotation has found its way onto our never-again list. read more

We had a group of 9 for a Sunday lunch to celebrate my Mom's birthday. I don't know if we came on a good day or what, but the food was exceptional. We could not believe the amount of food for the price. The prime rib was perfection, as was the chicken and rice soup. My son raved about the NY strip, and my brother in law said the ribs were fantastic. The birthday girl had the fried shrimp and loved it. What makes this place 5 star is the service. I can't begin to tell you how nice it was to have old school service. The young lady went above and beyond and was extremely attentive. We never had to ask for a drink because she was already on top of it. Even the gentleman who brought us our containers brought us some foil to make sure the soup didn't spill in the doggy bag. Prices are extremely reasonable! I had a Greek salad and a bowl of baked French onion soup; 15 bucks before tip! My friends ordered more expensive meals but still super reasonable. In a world of Peter Luger's and Morton's - Jameson's stands out from the rest as a local budget-friendly, high quality place you can take your family. I have been here many times and its always delicious, I am a fan of the NY strip but I have gotten many other menu items and it never disappoints. Food is very reasonably priced for what you are getting and I love the fact most main plates are served with soup and salad. The service here is always on point whether you have a table of 4 or 14, the staff is always courteous, knowledgeable, and the food comes out quick. Consistently excellent service and delicious food. BBQ chicken and rib platter was generous and well seasoned. Ribs were better than expected and chicken was moist. The chicken picannte was stellar. Went for Father's Day. 7pm reservations. Kitchen was overwhelmed. Ran out of garlic mashed and baked potatoes! Main course finally came out after 8pm. Filets were well below Medium request and were cold. Veggie sides were cold. Sent my filet back to cook more. Came back the same. Still cold. How could it still be cold after coming off a broiler? Offered to raccoon, but it was already late. Restaurant was emptying out, felt like the kitchen was in a rush, why would they do it right a 3rd time? We moved away years ago and came back for.a visit. Disappointing. Probably best to try on a non holiday. read more

Came here for a holiday party of 10. Saganaki was better than the Greek restaurant I went to the night before. On the specials menu rib eye cooked med rare plus was 5 stars. Even the next day. Very disappointed. We haven't been to a Jameson's in years. It was sad to see a dinner salad made of lettuce, cabbage & carrot strips. It really shouldn't be called a dinner salad, maybe a garnish plate would be a better description. Waitress said that's the way they make the dinner salads. French fries were good. Sad, we were hoping to love this place. The interior is a bit of a combination of a Denny's and an Outback Steakhouse-- tired, old, but a little more upscale than your traditional Applebees. The service wasn't great. Our server, Tim, was friendly but clearly extremely overwhelmed. I think he would have been more attentive to our table if they didn't have him running around like a headless chicken. The food was similar to the atmosphere, tired and nothing new/special. The Crab Cakes Appetizer was so clearly frozen and reheated, that the interior of them were hardly lukewarm. Our entrees weren't great either. Salmon Salad tasted old, and the Chicken Marsala was gristly and low-quality meat and a thick gloppy sauce. My Steak Wedge was pretty good but the steak itself was, again, not the best quality. The manager peter here is very rude to the customers and the workers from what I've seen, I came here a few weeks ago to enjoy a meal with my family and the manager was giving the waitress problems because WE messed up our order and we told the waitress we needed to fix it and we saw the manager scolding her over it. I would not recommend this place, overall just a bad experience here and he seems like an extremely rude person. If he was removed from the establishment they would do SO much better. read more

This is a great place to go for a nice lunch or dinner. Large menu and variety of specials. Entrees are large and many come with soup, potato and salad. All the sides were fresh and filling. Soup was surprisingly good and not super salty. Bread came out warm and was ample. Steak quality was on par for the price point. Could have used just a hint more salt but was otherwise prepared exactly as ordered. Side order of Asparagus was buttery and perfect. Been going here for yrs. Made reservations for Sat @ 5:15. We showed up about 5:05 the restaurant was pretty empty. Ask booth or table said prefer table bad knees. Asked to wait. Booths were now filled up. We were then told we probably would not get a table they just sat a couple big parties. After 30-45 mins we had to agreed to a booth. They tried to seat us at the 1/2 round booth advised that wouldn't work because of the bad knees. We were told that's all they had & we would have to wait longer. I asked why we weren't given the option of a regular booth before they filled up I was told the last couple had reservations I said so did I at 5:15 it was now 6. Very disappointed at the hosts we ended up leaving. What good is a reservation if they are not going to seat you according to the reservation! How long are you supposed to wait I think 45 mins is more than enough time!! Probably will not go back!!! read more

Don't order steak that often - mine, the bone-in Ribeye, was excellent - a great choice. Wife loved her bone-in NY Strip. Service was good, ambiance - it was a Jameson's - comfortable, clean. Very particular about the temp of the meats that I order - nothing worse ordering something rare or medium rare - and only to have delivered something that's medium well. We were very unhappy with our last experience at Jameson's. The wife and I went for lunch and split the "house ground" burger, grilled octopus and French onion soup. The burger was over cooked and very underwhelming for a hand packed burger. The octopus was on the special menu and was rubbery and fishy that was presented on a bed of wilted salad greens and was not edible. The onion soup was the only thing that stood out. Now the service. There was only 10 other people or so and we were there for over an hour and had to go to the bar to refill our drinks. We couldn't even get the waitresses attention to voice our concerns. 3.5 stars actually. Pretty good over all. The one thing i noticed was the wine needed to be chilled. Yes, I got red but it was so warm ice cubes melted in it. So i got the small filet for $26. It says 21.95 on web site and i swear it said 22.00 on the menu. When i got my bill the explanation was you must have been handed the lunch menu. When i mentioned web site price was just told they don't update those like they should... Apparently. The good thing is the filet was very good. The baked potato was good and the green beans were good. Salad and chicken pasta (they said noodle) all ok. Bread was a ciabatta type. The only other minor thing I'd mention was the hot food could have been a bit hotter. Service was good. I would go back again and i would recommend it, just not highly. read more

Wow what a great dining experience. Clean and well kept establishment. The hostess sat us quickly and the serving staff was right on us being super helpful. I came for the prime rib. You get a soup and salad and choice of potato and veggies. I went with the twice cooked baked with carrots. Also for the soup I did the French onion which was delicious The salad was a basic salad with a great balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The prime rib was the main event and it was succulent and a nice 10oz cut. I would eat here again. Cause they treated me great and fed me well!! read more

This place was slammed on a Saturday night and backed up on reservations. The bar area was packed as well but thankfully we were able to grab a drink and slink into a corner. After a 45 minute wait we made it to our table. The server was super friendly and attentive especially for having two large parties to manage. The food was decent but the treatment of the vegetables/sides was lacking in flavor and imagination. Appreciated the soup and salad that came with the meal and the warm bread for the table. The old fashioned left me disappointed though. Not sure if the bartender used aperol or what but it was red and definitely not the cocktail I know and love. All in all an okay spot for an okay meal but the wait (with a reservation) and lack of quality drinks/ingredients and basic food preparation/plating made it pretty lackluster. Went there on a Saturday night with a reservation and instructed the hostess at the time of the reservation we had a wheelchair. Upon arrival we waited 20 minutes past our reservation time because they had only one wheelchair accessible table (NOT acceptable). When we were escorted to our table we had to go in the back past the bathrooms and kitchen because there was not room for the wheelchair through the restaurant (also NOT acceptable). I spoke with the manager calmly and he told me I was being unreasonable. Waitress Marie was outstanding! Manager not so much. read more

Cost 1) Price for the low value was high. 2) We had a partially used 100.00 gift card from a previous meal that had 25.22 cents left on it. We even had the receipt from the previous meal and the amount the cashier wrore on it that was left. The restaurant said there was nothing on the card and would not honor it. 3). I have been to Jameson's 's many times as it is one of my favorite restaurants in McHenry County. I usually get the London broil which is very good and last night I ordered the skirt steak which was just OK. I will stick with the London broil. They offer both soup and salad and their bread is very good. The cocktails are normally very good. I ordered the raspberry French martini last night and it was a bit too much on the sweet side. The tiramisu was good as well. The service is normally very good and the ambience is very nice. I will definitely be back. read more
