Jane's is my favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara my friends and I have been coming here over a decade. I always order their burgers or sandwiches with fries and their coconut cake. The best thing about this restaurant is their fries! I never had fries quite like there fries. Their fries are so crispy and is one of the main reasons why we come here. I would usually rate this restaurant 5 stars but after this recent visit I am giving 4 stars. They raised their prices and were extremely disappointed they cut the fries portion in half. Especially since this was one of the best things about this restaurant. I have attached a photo of eating here at Jane's and Aug 2025 and coming back 4 months later to be severed fries that is half the size. They now put the fries in a fry container to make it seem like it's more fries but once you put it on the plate it's such a small amount of fries. The second reason why we come here is for the coconut cake. The cake is always moist never dry when we order the cake however sometimes it can be a hit or miss with how much cake you will actually get. Because sometimes if you order the cake you will get a slice that has more cream and frosting and not as much of a cake layer. Not to mention they raised the price to $14 for a single slice of cake?! Which is so expensive. $14 is almost like ordering half a cake. What a cute spot -- casual but with a touch of fancy! The bar area gives off such fun vibes, though we were seated outside. Their patio is really nice and cozy, complete with heaters for those cooler evenings. Service was good overall, but our second round of drinks took a little while to arrive. The blood orange margarita was fantastic, and the wine list was impressive too. We started with the French onion soup -- everything about it was great except the soup itself, which was a bit lacking in flavor. I'd read so many good reviews about the chicken piccata, and I'm glad I tried it -- it was truly delicious! The chicken was tender, the pasta cooked perfectly, and the veggies were seasoned just right. Definitely a winner. My husband really enjoyed his chicken sandwich, and our friend loved the clams. For dessert, we tried the coconut cake. It was good, but I personally didn't think it lived up to the hype -- the crème brûlée was much better. All in all, we had a great experience here. Jane at the Marketplace was recommended to me by a friend and I had to make sure that I tried it out. I'm really glad I did. The food was amazing. I didn't dine in and at the restaurant but I got my food to go. I ordered the chicken piccata and all the yelp reviews mentioned that I had to get the coconut chiffon cake for dessert. I was a big fan of the chicken piccata because it featured a lemonade and keeper flavor to it. I am definitely a sucker for that. The coconut chiffon cake lived up to the hype. It is not the cheapest, but it is very tasty. Even getting it to go, it held up pretty well and they put the sauce on the side so everything doesn't get too soggy. I was able to place my food order over the phone and they told me to come get my food in about 15 minutes or so. The restaurant looked fairly busy. So I was glad to be able to take my food to go and eat in the hotel room. There is a big parking lot here in this plaza but it's depends on how lucky you get to get a closer spot to the restaurant. But typically it's not a big deal finding an available spot. read more

Jane in Goleta is our family's favorite SB restaurant, hands down. Thiago makes the most delicious and inventive drinks-- I always love trying his creations! The daily happy hour is also great. Standout drinks include the Pisco Sour, Ginger Gimlet, and Raspberry Lemon Drop. Standout menu items include the Chicken Piccata, Spinach Radicchio and Roasted Beets salad, Italian Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza, Chicken Fettuccini pasta. And of course for dessert, the coconut cake! Good dinner for 5 on the occasion of a birthday. The Red Onion rings were great, with a nice balsamic sauce. Even the picky 8 year-old went for them. 3 of us had the filet with mushroom sauce; very good, though I should have ordered rare - the medium rare was more like medium. Nonetheless, tasted great. Potatoes au gratin were nice, as were the green beans and carrots. One had the halibut special - great. For dessert, the cheesecake was nice. Jane remains the best restaurant in Goleta for me. We just had a wonderful dinner at Jane at the Marketplace in Goleta weekend of May 4, probably our 7th or 8th visit over the past 4 years (our son attends UCSB just a mile away). Jane never disappoints, we have eaten in every room in the restaurant, this time we ate on their covered patio. Here's what we ordered: -Chicken Piccata (my son gets this almost every time!) - chicken filet with lemon sauce, capers, etc. served with fettuccini. -Fish special - Halibut with a sauce and veggies -- absolutely delicious! -I had the Half Papaya and curried Dungeness crab salad served with a honey lime dressing - this salad was amazing, one of my favorite meals ever! For dessert we split a special (similar to creme brûlée, see the picture). But Jane is famous for their coconut chiffon cake which we have had many times, you should order that on your first visit. -Wine list also good with many choices, even just by the glass. -Service - always warm and friendly -Ambiance- not too loud, maybe in the main dining room where the bar is it can get a bit loud but the other rooms are quieter. Jane's is an exquisite small restuarant in Goleta tucked in amoung the fast food and noisy full service restaurants. The atmosphere is quiet and warm with soft music allowing conversion. The service is excellent with knowledgeable, friendly wait staff. The food is top notch. We tried the grilled artichokes which came served with a tasty dipping sauce. Very good. The red onion rings fantastic. The shrimp pizza with avocado and tomatillo was wonderful. The fresh swordfish sandwich delightful. Don't forget dessert. The coconut cake was light and airy with a tree Leche sauce. Cote de creme in chocolate one of the best I have tasted. Plenty of parking. The vibes are stylish yet casual- I think you could get away with wearing a sweatsuit if you wanted to LOL. There's an option of sitting inside or outside, but definitely be mindful of the weather! First of all our first was incredibly sweet and none of this was on her! The restaurant itself was nice and clean and had heaters outside. One person in my party had the pork chop and recommended that very highly. We had a reservation for a bit of a larger party (5 people) we'd made prior to that day. We still had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time and there was very little space at the front. Once we did get sat, Everything on the menu had dairy somehow. The online menu says vegan options but this is not true for any entrees without (expensive) modifications. For example, all of the sauces have butter. The burgers must be ordered without cheese and you must sub ($) a rather poor vegan patty. It also did not taste restaurant quality at all to be honest. read more

Came here for dinner while on a work trip! We got the Jane burger with fries, the French onion soup, a margarita and a raspberry lemon drop as well as a slice of the coconut cake to go. The cake was nice, but maybe tastes better when you have it there. The cake was a little crumbly and dry when we ate it. The burger was delicious and huge! The fries were also really well made and you get a very large portion. The location is really pretty and seems like a quiet and fun place for a group dinner with friends. We came up to Santa Barbara to celebrate my husbands 55th birthday and he wanted to go to Jane as we do that every year (it's his passed mothers name and he feels very connected to both restaurants ) the kind host mentioned he would put a note in and would help make it special. Boy, that was an understatement to say the least : they hardly welcomed us when we mentioned our reservation, acted rushed the whole time too busy to even acknowledge and when they head lady did , seemed very ingenuine. The food was mediocre to say it nicely def. Not worth the price, they got my salad wrong and doused with dressing when requested none, the waiter was nice enough but seemed way under staffed so hardly paid any attention to our table waited forever for our check, did not do one nice thing for his birthday when I saw the older couple table get a candle and slice of cake for their birthday?! We will Not be coming back and will gladly let others know how crappy our experience was. Luckily for us, we were at the Bouchon the night before and boy we were treated so special and it was so romantic there! Go to Bouchon if you want romantic and special , for 10 dollars extra the food is wayyyy better .... oh and one last thing The head older lady manager knew it was his birthday , so you can't say they didn't know , and ever so kindly mentioned in her most ingenuine manner happy birthday , as she so kindly dropped off the check for the understaffed waiter . I visited on a Friday evening, it wasn't as busy as I expected and I didn't have to make a reservation. We ordered the Bay Scallop Ceviche, Grilled Filet Mignon, and Grilled Salmon on Cedar. Their items were a little overpriced for the serving size and did not have an outstanding impressive flavor profile. The complimentary bread that was brought out was cold which was fine, just not the best. The scallops in the ceviche has no flavor of their own and absorbed the very sour marinade. The scallops were hard and the flavor became almost sickening to eat. They provided 6 chips which was definitely not enough for the ceviche. I would not come back for this dish. I ordered a medium rare Grilled Filet Mignon. The flavor was good but at times the texture was chewy and difficult to swallow. It was not evenly cooked throughout which was disappointing. I would give it a 3/5. However, the Grilled Salmon on Cedar was the best of the three dishes ordered. The salmon melted in the mouth and was cooked perfectly. I would give it a 4/5. On another note, their scalloped potatoes and seasonal veggies tasted great. While ambiance of the restaurant is very nice they have lovely outdoor seating, I don't see myself returning in the foreseeable future. read more

This upscale casual eatery offers good food and friendly service. They're a bit pricy, but not crazy expensive. When we arrived for this meal the table wasn't set up for service, and we had to ask for silverware, salt and pepper, and such. We ordered onion rings with balsamic for an appetizer and they were very good. Red onions with a great batter and a good blend of flavors. They did need some salt, but were otherwise a good choice. She had the Margherita pizza and it was perfectly baked with fresh ingredients. Again, it needed some salt but was otherwise well done. I went with the penne and was quite happy. Wine delivered in dirty glass... I had someone else bill and then bill with an extra glass of wine on it. I asked for a bread that comes with food and was told that to grill it costs extra despite that my meal was over $100. About the food my sister order medium rare but when he got it it's look like it's well done. And my food is kind of sour and very oily. And about the drink that my sister order is margarita when she taste it she said it's very salty so I tasted it and it is very salty. Stopped by Jane on the way back to Los Angeles from a great weekend in Paso Robles. We arrived right at 5pm on New Years day and were able to get a table quickly. Reservations were full, but since we got there at opening it was not a problem. One of my kids got the "kids cheese pizza" and it looked pretty good. It was a good size and he really enjoyed it. He liked it so much he didn't even save me a slice! I ordered the Veal Masala. The veal was very thin but had good flavor with the sauce. I also had the wedge salad that was good. Overall though, I thought that the portions were a bit on the small side. Compared to other similar restaurants they could have been a bit bigger. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals, but the consensus was that all the meals were little bit on the small side. Corkage fee for a bottle of wine is $20. I don't mind returning to eat here again on the next trip, but I also would consider trying out other places as well. read more

This is going to be my last visit to Jane's. I tried to give it a couple chances but I realized I'm not a big fan of their food. It's way too expensive and bland. I got their Shrimp and Penne. The sauce was so watery and the penne barely had any flavor to it. The shrimp had a really bad flavor to it. The aftertaste of it longed in my tongue for the whole day (wasn't pleasant). Our waiter was really friendly so that's why there's 2 stars instead of 1. As for the food being expensive; I didn't realize they also charge you full price for a slice of a cake for a birthday celebration at their restaurant. Haven't seen that before. read more

I went to Jane twice recently and had two polar opposite experiences in terms of food, see below. However, one thing is constant. I love the outdoor patio area and the how friendly the servers are! Fried Chicken Sando - Visually, the dish looks underwhelming as the chicken sando could use some height. The reason why I point this out is because this is the best fried chicken sando and the best french fries I have consumed. The fries are tossed with shallots and cunningly flavored to make them a next level side. The sando has a piece of glistening fried chicken, kissed with some relish that is so good, it managed to convince my pickle-hating friends to like pickles. This is all balances with some fresh lettuce and a creamy chipotle aioli on a toasted bun. The height of the burger is what's needed to showcase all these components I described, but nevertheless, still an excellent meal for $17. Grilled Duck Breast - Unfortunately, this grilled duck dish was rather disappointing. Despite everything being cooked absolutely spot on, I felt that the dish was just lacking something... it seemed dull and dated. The dish is seasonal and did not encompass a hearty winter dish captured by the apricots, nor did it have any vibrancy of a spring dish. Additionally, having two pieces of forest on the plate is rather bizarre, but at least they could've been seasoned and grilled instead of steamed. read more

Went for dinner recently, and the staff members were so sweet & friendly. They were patient too, especially with the various personalities in our group. The place was lively for a Sunday evening, but with a relaxed & easy air (i.e. not loud or rowdy). Very welcoming atmosphere. The food & drinks, while presented beautifully, were just under par. The flavors of our entrees were a little underwhelming, and the cocktails really needed more alcohol and a wider variety of garnishes. Maybe it was an off night in the kitchen, I don't know. But some recipe adjustments would complete the overall experience at Jane's. read more

On this #InternationalWomen'sHistoryDay, I am awestruck that I have not yet written a review for Jane At The Marketplace. What took me so long?! I could have sworn I already did--until I realized it didn't offer me the option to write a Review Update. Jane is easily within my top 3 restaurants in Goleta for any occasion. From the minute you enter you'll be greeted by Arielle (my "homegirl" also reigning from Chicagoland) to being served a uniquely crafted cocktail by the bartender Thiago. It's simply a solid choice. Their Happy Hour is always one of the tastiest deals around. That burger with thin cut French fries is a favorite (though their Macho Burger not on Happy Hour is killer). For dinner, I always have a tough time deciding but am often persuaded to go with the Anaheim Chicken Breast with scalloped potatoes, the Chicken Picatta or their Duck Breast. No matter whether it is your first time visiting or you're a regular, you must order the Onion Rings. These rings are massive and so tasty with a drizzle of balsamic reduction. All of their dishes are made well. When it comes to dessert, I'm not a fan of coconut but their Coconut Cake even has my vote. Otherwise the Caramel Pecan Tart is a close second. My biggest suggestion is to make reservations in advance and eat out on their patio when the weather in nice. read more

What a beautiful restaurant setting in a shopping plaza. You feel like you're at a winery or one of Napa's fine restaurants. Happy support a local business! The atmosphere is casual. Feels like a Sunday brunch. The service is nice. The menu has a nice mix of entrees to suit anyone's mood: burgers, sandwiches, salads, pastas and other mains. We ordered: Chicken Fettuccini - (4.0) Tasty. Pasta had good texture. Sauce was good. Lone Star Burger - (4.0) Delicious and good flavor. The fries were the best!! Love the texture and flavor. The burger was a little overdone. Sea Bass Special - (3.5) I love sea bass it's my favorite fish, however the fish was over cooked for my liking. I wanted the skin to be crispy but it was chewy, and the fish itself lost its flakiness. The sauce was nice. The veggies had a nice bite. The scallop potatoes were the star of this dish. Perfect texture. Seasoned well. Coconut Chiffon Cake - (5.0) Come here for their signature dessert! Wow! What a fantastic slice of heaven! The cake is fluffy, the filling wasn't too sweet, the frosting was light, and the sauce was delicate. Overall it was a lovely experience. I would come back to try out other dishes. This restaurant needs new management. My family of 4 was there for diner. I ordered a fish sandwich and was not impressed. Nothing wrong it just didn't work for me. I asked for a sauce or condiment to help. It was not for me. The manager not the server refused to take just the sandwhi off my bill. The manager's position was when based on a preference it was my fault I ordered it!!
