    Crudite

This place is a classic steak house! The NY strip was just okay, nothing amazing we ordered medium rare and the cook was fine. The rack of lamb on the other hand was pretty disappointing, it lacked seasoning and overall flavor. The onion rings would be great if they didn't cut the roof your mouth - a little too hard for me. I did love the crudite they they bring to you before.your meal - it was great! The service was good for a Friday night, the staff was friendly but clearly very busy.

Grey steak. The picture doesnt do it justice, it looks more red on camera

The servers were nice but.. the food seriously needs work. The cleanliness too. There was a fly in the salt jar, the "rare" steak was super chewy and grey, and the fries were flavorless. The bread was also kind of stale. The mushrooms were good though. There were fruit flies everywhere. The menus all had food and sauce caked on to them. I wish i got better pictures of it but I felt bad haha.

A perfect steakhouse that must be protected at all costs. Maybe the best steakhouse in California? Compare's to Musso's and Taylor's maybe Smoke House. It's simply the best.

Nice ambiance, nice and attentive staff. I had the fillet-mignon and it was not the best, meat was tough. I had to spit it out a few times as I couldn't break it down (sorry for the visual) it's very pricey, I'm greatly for the experience as I've always wanted to try it but I would not choose to eat here. $290. For 4 entrees and 1 app. (Tip well, service was great)

I can't say enough about this old school steakhouse in Santa Barbara! A true hidden gem! Food is always excellent and we have had some above and beyond servers. We had one Monday night named Sarah who was wonderful. This restaurant has a 1950s ambience oh which we thought was really classy.

The Tee-Off is still the yummiest in town for a steak! And if you're a local you'll always know someone's the bar too.

set a Barbie hidden secret. Old 1956 red leather bar and steakhouse. West side of Santa Barbara, the best service lobster prime rib.

I'm not familiar with them having ribs--unless it's a weekly special. They do have the Ace Cut Prime Rib (Cajun seasoned & blackened) at $37.95. Reservations are always recommended.

Does anyone know if they still have the all you can eat ribs?

She decided she wanted to go to a steakhouse so we asked a bartender at a local bar what his recommendation would be and he mentioned Rare Society. Although I'd never been to Rare Society before, it wasn't the first time I'd heard the name. We actually have a couple of them down here in San Diego and though I've never been there, had heard good things about it. We made a reservation for that evening but the only thing available was on the patio. We arrived about 15 minutes prior to our reservation and the weather already began to cool off. As we walked towards the door we were greeted by the hostesses who also saw that it was my wife's birthday and they wished her happy birthday. We acknowledged that our reservation was on the patio but asked if it was possible to move to inside and they were quickly accommodating to this request. There was no wait even though we were a little early and we were led inside to a corner L-shaped booth. As we were reviewing the menu we were welcomed in by our server Tara who brought us water, offered us drinks and ran down some of the menu items available. For cocktails to start the evening my wife had a manhattan and I had a Woodford old fashioned. Both cocktails were expertly crafted and tasted great. For our appetizer, we had the hamachi crudo which was finely sliced hamachi with a perfect compliment of toppings including pickled pineapple which brought out the flavor of it all. For our main course, we decided to go with "The Associate" board which was recommended by Tara. It is served with three different cuts of steak, bone marrow, and three sauces. All of the cuts were prepared perfectly and the sauces and bone marrow were the perfect compliment. For sides we got broccolini with a creamy lemon sauce, miso glazed carrots and creamed spinach. All the sides we tried were great, but the broccolini and miso glazed carrots were definitely our favorite. To wind down the evening, Tara brought us a dessert menu to look over and although we were very full from dinner we did order two carajillos to sip on. Our dessert drinks were brought out quickly along with a perfect portion of ice cream with which I believe also had some sort of cracker inside of it. I don't recall exactly but it tasted great and was enough for us to split. This being our first experience at a Rare Society location was nothing short of stellar. The service from every employee from the time we approached the front door was exceptional, the food was amazing and was the quality that one would expect at the price point and the cocktails we had were top-tier. This was our first time up to Santa Barbara and I'm not sure when we'll be back, but our experience at Rare Society gives me reason to check out the one down by us as well next time we're looking for a perfect steak dinner.

For the mains we had the shrimp toast and the pork ribs, both fantastic both well portioned and both 10/10s. Pork ribs fell off the bone easily and were spicy and tangy without overdoing flavor and the shrimp toast tasted like a great gumbo sauce and the shrimps were big! However, we ordered the steak and it was pretty chewy and not seasoned well. Pretty disappointing after trying all the other tasty foods. Cioppino: sauce / soup was super underwhelming and seafood not fresh. Seafood pasta: the pasta noodles were overcooked and sauce tasted like it came from a can. We did the Foodie Stroll & Dinner experience, which included a trip to the farmers market with the chef, Vick. Vick was a pleasure to spend time with--personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely engaging. We had a great time at the market with him and then enjoyed exploring it on our own afterward. When we arrived at the restaurant, our table was ready and beautifully set with rose petals to mark the occasion. The staff was attentive, helpful, and professional--always aware of when we needed something, but never intrusive. My wife ordered the Salade Lyonnaise, Juniper & Rosemary Venison, and Lemon-Berry Upside Down Cake. I had the Forest Mushroom Ragout, Braised Kurobuta Pork Flank, and finished with the Chocolate Molten Lava Cake. Every bite was excellent. My wife raved about the venison, and my pork flank was incredibly tender in a rich, flavorful sauce--the meat practically fell apart. Portions were generous; we couldn't finish everything, though we tried. Each course was paired with a different wine, and every pairing was spot-on. One especially thoughtful touch was that they presented us with custom 25th anniversary menus that we created with the chef. The menus highlighted our anniversary and listed the exact dishes we ordered--it was a really nice keepsake and made the evening feel even more special. All of this was done during a packed service, with only four people in the kitchen, which made the experience even more impressive. We'd made reservations and were seated promptly when we arrived. The ambiance was warm and inviting. We noticed that the diners' demographic skewed older, but that was fine with us--it made for a relaxing time. We started things off with some cocktails: I got the Opal martini (gin and vodka, with Gorgonzola stuffed Olive--very good) and the hubby got the house old fashioned (not too sweet, also very good). They brought out a small complimentary bread basket, which had two different kinds of excellent bread. Carb avoidance be damned! We ordered the following: - warm seafood salad (lots of fresh seafood--great) - butter lettuce salad with Gorgonzola (so simple and so delicious) - mushroom risotto (delicious! Cheesy with bits of walnuts and asparagus as well as the shrooms) We thought the prices were reasonable prices for the quality, and the service was excellent. Overall a really great experience; would definitely try again.

No vermouth. Very weird and sounds kinda gross, so I requested a classic vodka martini instead with vermouth and the olive. They bring out just a glass of chilled vodka, no vermouth, and a cheese olive. I check the bill: $12 MARTINI -$5 UP (upgrade?!? Are you joking? It's a SWAP!) -$1 CHEESE OLIVE (ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?) So they charged me $18 to turn their decapitated martini made with UCSB student-budget vodka into a regular martini, and then charged me extra for the already included olive because I had the gall to change the drink! The waitress didn't even bother mentioning how I barely touched the drink, which our usual Opal servers would have 100% caught onto. Younger girl with black hair and very nonchalant, dismissive attitude. Atmosphere looked nice but between the fire alarm going off from someone burning something in the kitchen, table of 6 behind us that had cackling harpy laughs (not unusual for Opal), and the blasting music, you can't even have a decent conversation at dinner. I'm pretty over this place and will not recommend it anymore. I always try to stay positive about SB's food scene as someone from LA, but constant experiences like this are what make me go "Damn, if only the food here didn't suck so badly...."

We went back a few weeks ago, for Matt's 43rd birthday, and found a completely different restaurant. I guess at some point, San Ysidro Ranch went all-inclusive, and Stonehouse started serving a mostly captive clientele: hotel guests who've already paid for dinner. This is fine if you're staying at the Ranch, but if you remember The Stonehouse as a fancy special occasion restaurant with a high level of service, your impression is out of date. The astronomical prices may suggest otherwise, but keep in mind that most diners aren't really paying those anyway. We went on a drizzly Tuesday night and sat inside, missing out on the scenic patio. The dining room was nice, though, very stately, and as parents ourselves, we were not put out by the number of children in the room, the families sitting down for a casual weeknight dinner. We were surprised, though, when we tried to order drinks and our waiter asked to see our IDs. My husband presented his license, which showed very clearly that it was his 43rd birthday. The waiter had no comment on this, and instead turned his attention to me, Matt's 40-year-old wife. I didn't have ID on me, and he refused to take my drink order. We weren't about to have an expensive birthday dinner without alcohol, so we got up to drive home and pick up my license. But first, I decided to try my luck with a manager. Because look, I understand that I should've had my wallet, but also, I hadn't been carded at a restaurant in years. I told this to the manager, and suggested they tell customers in advance to make sure to bring ID. Instead of explaining that he needed to be careful because The Stonehouse served families with teenagers, he said it was the law, and that every restaurant should be carding aggressively. This was so disingenuous I more or less asked if he'd ever been to a restaurant. I also offered to show him a scan of my passport and the picture Matt and I took at The Stonehouse the night we got engaged in 2012, well after I turned seven. He relented, and we were reseated without having to produce my license. I didn't hold any of this against our waiter, but we were assigned a new one anyway, and received middling service for the duration of our meal. For one thing, we asked for help picking a bottle from the massive wine book, and it took the somm an actual half hour to pay us a visit. We were done with our appetizers and had checked in with our waiter twice by the time he made his way over. The other annoyance was that no one acknowledged Matt's birthday, despite the time we spent litigating birthdays, during which I mentioned quite pointedly that we were there for his 43rd. I even told a server who checked in on me before dessert while Matt was in the bathroom, and he said he'd make sure there was a candle in our tart. Not the end of the world, but this did not happen. The drinks, when we got them, were great, starting with cocktails, which almost tided us over until we received our wine. These were $33 a pop and kind of ridiculous, smoked tableside with a showy gadget. The Negroni Tropicale was made with grilled pineapple-infused No. 3 dry gin, Campari, Carpano Antica, and orange zest, then smoked with pecan wood. The French Quarter mixed Bardstown Ferrand Cognac-cask bourbon, Zaya 16-year rum, Benedictine, oloroso sherry, dry vermouth, and orange bitters, and was smoked with bourbon oak wood. For wine, we got a bottle of 2020 Vietti Monvigliero Barolo. This was excellent, and also a bit of a win. The bottle was barely marked up from retail, and we'll never know if The Stonehouse has exceptionally favorable wine prices or we were served the wrong vintage on accident. Food was solid, starting with Maine lobster salad in tiny phyllo cups, a nice welcome bite. Bread basket came with pumpkin seed lavash pumpkin seed, sourdough, and rice flour rolls, with olive oil for dipping. We enjoyed a half-dozen oysters with pickled Asian pear mignonette, and Japanese yellowtail crudo with pixie tangerine, purple radish, seagrass, and shiro dashi vinaigrette. Acorn squash agnolotti were lovely, with black truffle, toasted pecans, morel mushrooms, and a goat cheese fondue. The duck a l'orange came with a show, the sauce flambéed tableside on portable burner. A lot of magic tricks on this menu, perhaps for the kids. The duck breast was good, though, over barley pilaf with Tokyo turnips, herbes de Provence, Cara Cara orange, and Grand Marnier. The herb-crusted rack of lamb was decent too, served with lamb sausage, Tuscan kale, crispy polenta, and violet mustard. For dessert, we shared the orchard Meyer lemon tart with blueberry compote and wildflower honey and lavender Chantilly. The food was a strong A-, but not worth the money or the sub-par experience. Unless you're staying on property, avoid The Stonehouse.
