Note that this is a review specifically for a private event (wedding lunch reception). My wife and I recently got married at the Santa Barbara Courthouse and were looking for a restaurant to host a lunch reception and State & Fig absolutely delivered. A 5/5 experience and we would certainly work with them again. We were in contact with Serina for about a year before the wedding and she was very accommodating, responsive, and helpful throughout the entire process. We initially met with her to discuss our vision, had a food and cake tasting, and also a final walk through with our coordinator to ensure everything was smooth. In terms of food, atmosphere, and service, I would want to go through all three in detail: 1) Food: We had a lunch style buffet and the food options were fresh and many of our guests gave very positive feedback and took shameless second trips. Serina and the owner (Patrick) were able to source many of the ingredients seasonally and cater to our guests' palate (Asian-inspired, etc.). We had a tasting and they took our feedback into consideration in earnest. Moreover, our strawberry cake was AMAZING. 2) Atmosphere: The restaurant had a great layout for our party size (~90 or so) with seating inside, outside, and upstairs. This arrangement allowed us to have an intimate reception despite having a lot of guests. The decor in the restaurant is minimal, which allows customization to make the space truly our own. State & Fig allowed us to borrow a few decorations, which was generous. 3) Service: The two points before were already excellent, but State & Fig's outstanding service took the lunch reception to another level. Serina was a joy to work with in terms of bringing our vision to life and was always there to make things easy for us. Patrick ensured that this was a special day for us, and encouraged us to soak it in and enjoy it as much as we can. And the wait staff and servers on the day of were professional and attentive. For that, we are immensely grateful. There were other restaurants that we toured before selecting S&F, and it was clear that hosting the reception would simply be a transactional business affair. This felt like a genuine desire to make our special day a memorable experience. Overall, a 5/5 experience and we hope that others will be able to have State & Fig host their special day. P.S. A funny aside: we met a couple sitting next to us during our tasting, who were returning to celebrate their anniversary after getting married at S&F. They told us we were in good hands and not to worry, and we AGREE. read more

I hosted my reception for 25 people at State & Fig on 6/12/2025. I first sent out an inquiry to State & Fig and started speaking to Serina in January 2025. I then spent the following months having many back and forth emails with Serina regarding my event. She was incredibly helpful, thoughtful, detail-oriented, and friendly. I can't highlight enough how incredible Serina was to work with. She was willing to listen to any questions, decoration ideas, or concerns that I had. I have no question that if it wasn't for her, my reception wouldn't have turned out as dreamy as it did. She helped me make my dreams come alive. I used some of the decoration they provided and brought some of my own - just to make it more confusing! We recently hosted a rehearsal dinner at State & Fig. Serina made planning from across the country so easy. She and Patrick were so flexible and accommodated our dietary needs and last minute changes so graciously. Serina and her team set up all of our decor and totally captured the vision I had. They had cold waters and chilled wines ready upon arrival as the weather had been quite warm for our rehearsal. So thoughtful! The arugula salad with lemon vinaigrette, goat cheese, pistachios and peaches was FANTASTIC! The scallops and the bistecca were excellent as well. Everyone raved about the food, the service, and the setting. The cocktail hour out on the patio was a great way to welcome our guests, and the high ceilings and windows inside really made the space feel elegant in the candlelight - the setting was perfect. I recently had my baby shower(high tea) here at State & Fig and I couldn't have been more happy with this choice! All of my family and friends who attended are still talking about it. My husband and I hosted our reception here in August and it was the best experience! For one, the food here was so delicious, every guest commented on how much they enjoyed it. They were also able to make adjustments for a guest who had dietary restrictions, which was so kind since we had gone with a buffet. Secondly, Serina was such a pleasure to work with and made everything go so smoothly. There was staff that day to pass hors d'oeuvres which made it feel classier since we had the buffet option. Unfortunately, the same sandwich I always get has changed over the years and it just gets worse. "The bird," use to have a light smear of aioli, the chicken was fried in a light airy batter, never greasy. And the Cole slaw was a fresh, light, vinaigrette based slaw with green apples and green cabbage. IT WAS SO GOOD!!! Light and fresh. Never greasy. My sandwich was a heavy greasy batter and soggy from being drenched with some sauce that seemed like spicy ranch? Also heavy in taste. Very messy! The slaw is just a bunch of red cabbage. I made a reservation for a late lunch after a wedding at the courthouse. Serina was absolutely lovely to work with. The restaurant is pet friendly and they were able to accommodate my dog inside since it rained. They close at 2:30 during the week and I was running late, but Serina didn't make us feel rushed. The staff were awesome, the location is in this cute little court area and has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and the service is extremely quick (on an early Saturday afternoon no less)! I definitely suggest coming here with someone and splitting something sweet and something savory; the Figg'in French Toast was absolutely delicious but was so sweet that I definitely would've gotten a toothache if I hadn't had half a burger to bounce off of. It was filled with the creamiest of cream cheese spreads, and was honestly just mouthwatering otherwise. The burger was also really good; it had an entire breakfast buffet in it, stuffed with sausage and bacon and egg on a brioche bun. Super tasty. And the potatoes that came on the side were extremely soft and well-flavored, although maybe a bit dry. I think it's because it's not really a tourist spot and it's tucked away in little Italy. This place is great! Something that stands out is how all the ingredients taste farm fresh. We had our rehearsal dinner at State & Fig, we are so glad we picked them. Patrick is really incredible to work with, he's super knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what he does. He gave us multiple pricing tiers to choose from and suggested so many amazing dish options to help us build a customized dinner. We got to come in for a tasting which was the best, he cooked our top choices and we had awesome wines to pair with them. In the end we selected a choice of 2 appetizers, burrata toast and arugula salad, and scallops & short rib for entrees. We were struggling to choose between chocolate cake and butterscotch budino for dessert so Patrick suggested we do a smaller portion of both which was great. We also chose a 4 hour wine and beer package, the selection was great with that too. Our guests were raving about the food and loved the location. Patrick really went beyond our expectations throughout the planning and postponing process. My husband appreciated how responsive he was, especially while running a restaurant during a pandemic. I've made a lot of terrible decisions in my life, but choosing State and Fig for my wedding reception totally cancels them all out. And I made some BAD decisions. From the very beginning, Patrick was a dream to work with. He's kind and warm, he's also responsive and efficient and above all he knows how to cook, run a restaurant, and throw a great event! He took care of everything, food-wise obviously, but also event-wise because he's thrown so many events at his restaurant and in his previous job. He was super patient with all our many changes. Originally we were supposed to get married April 2020 but had to cancel due to COVID, then we had to keep canceling or next dates due to some personal tragedies (our first baby was stillborn in June 2020 then 2 weeks later my mom was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, then 7 months after that our second baby was lost at 11 weeks, all this happened during the pandemic that decimated my husband's small business in the hospitality industry). Patrick was very accommodating of my brother, his wife, and their daughter who did not want to sit inside with the rest of us. He was more than happy to set up a table on the patio and make them as comfortable as possible. We ended up renting 4 heat lamps to keep them warm and it was super nice on the patio, they were not miserable at all and they didn't look like "pariahs" as they claimed they would. It was a great setup out there, and Patrick even did the cocktail hour with passed appetizers out there so they felt more included. It was perfect. Not only was Patrick patient with all the switch-ups, but he was also incredibly warm and kind and empathetic about all our trauma and grief. He worked extra hard to make sure we had the most perfect wedding possible because he felt we deserved one happy day. And he pulled it off! The food and ambience at our wedding reception was PERFECT. It was hard to make our menu selections because all the options he sent us looked delicious! He curated a menu based upon our many conversations and he really took the time to get to know our likes/dislikes and childhood memories. All the options he created looked amazing so it was hard, but we finally narrowed it down to 3 tray passed appetizers (which people are STILL raving about, especially the salmon poke spoon and the battered halibut with tater tot and malt vinegar aioli). My husband is allergic to fish, but we still chose 2 fish appetizers because we felt our guests would really enjoy them. I felt bad for my husband that he would only be able to eat one of them. However, when we arrived at the restaurant (we missed cocktail hour because we were off taking photos), as soon as we sat down after our first dance, the server brought us each a little plate of the passed appetizers! Mine contained 2 of each of the 3 passed apps and they were SO GOOD. My husband's plate contained 2 of the vegetarian appetizer (it was a warm brie and mushroom crostini, to die for) and they even made him some special little sliders too! Not only did they remember he can't eat fish but they went out of their way to make him something different that he could eat. The salad and the entrees and even the dessert were impeccable. They tasted delicious, were plated beautifully, and everything was served at the exact temperature it was supposed to be. I will post a photo of the custom menus our florist (Brooke with Burlap and Bordeaux) printed so you can see how drool-worthy our menu selections were! It was legitimately the best meal of my life, and I'm kind of a foodie and have pretty high standards when it comes to food. I've had a lot of really good meals, but this one beat them all! The service was wonderful too! The staff were super attentive and professional, and they all really went above and beyond to give us a special day. It was perfect. We are so glad we chose State and Fig for our wedding reception and highly recommend it for anyone who wants to host a nice meal and really wow their guests. We're still hearing compliments from our guests about the food and service and ambience of the restaurant! It looked so beautiful too! We were skeptical paying at the counter since service typically suffers that way, but not here. Our server Riley was so hospitable and anticipated our needs before we could even ask. We had a few mimosas and had ZERO trouble getting another round thanks to Riley's impeccable service. He made the end of our trip a pleasant one! Onto the food: my boyfriend ordered the Presidio Burrito (he's tried it twice) which was delicious. It was generously filled with chorizo, home fries, cheddar and jack cheese, avocado, and salsa. It's paired with a side salad that's pretty tasty as well. For myself, I tried the Salmon Benny that was paired with a side of home fries. The entree was good, but the burritos here are definitely better. Drinks: this establishment has pretty good coffee whatever brand they use. Flavored creamer isn't necessary. We also had a few rounds of mimosas which are pretty darn good for $6 apiece. They have a variety of flavors to choose from too - peach, guava, pomegranate, pineapple and mango (my favorite). If you are looking for a new brunch place to try out and catch up with some friends, then this place is perfect. It has a spacious, open floor plan and comfortable seating. I went with two of my friends and experienced a zero wait time on a Sunday right before lunch time. For the food, I ordered the mushroom pesto omelette. The portion size was generous and there were many sides included with it. My friend ordered the figgin' toast, and it was very rich, creamy and flavorful. If I go back again, I will lean towards ordering the fig oriented dishes next time! State & Fig is about a 10-15 minute walk from the station and it is located in a quiet and quaint alley in the hustle and bustle of SB's main promenade. They offer outdoor dining, but that seemed to full up quickly for larger parties so my party of 5 was offered indoor dining. Seating inside was socially distanced. Short Benedict: They do not skimp at all on the short ribs. I only finished one of my benedicts because it was just that much. Eggs were poached well. The home fries could have been a bit more crispy and slightly seasoned for an elevated taste. Again, the amount was more than enough. This also comes with some fresh assorted fruit too. We had our ceremony at the courthouse (which we also recommend) and then walked over to State and Fig for our cocktail hour and dinner. We also chose to do the drink package which included beer, wine, champagne, soda, tea, coffee, juices and it was perfect! The drinks were good and they kept the bar flowing smoothly all night. Now for the dinner. I was shocked by the food! I knew the quality was going to be amazing but the portions were huuuuge!!! We started with a classic house salad and the entrees we chose were salmon, chicken, and short ribs. Everyone raved about the food all night. It was sooooo good. Then to close out our dinner we had their chocolate cake. The entire process from start to finish was so easy. Serina and Patrick were so responsive and accommodating of changes even on the day of our event! They allowed us to come to the restaurant the day before and set up a mock up table and leave our decor with them so they could replicate our vision the next day. We got to play our own music and even had a grand entrance and space for our first dance. It was such a perfect night! We will be recommending State and Fig to everyone forever!
