I've been going to Ina for over 10 years. Every time Ina colors my hair, I get more and more amazed by her magical work. This was absolutely what I wanted! I couldn't believe Ina did this to my hair!! I didn't think my hair would look like the photos I would pin on Pinterest but then I looked in the mirror when Ina was finished styling my hair and OH MY! It was absolutely perfect! Ina is there to make you feel good and help you through the entire process. She is the sweetest person on the planet. She's very gentle, she asks many questions to see what exactly you want and she exceeds your expectations. I couldn't imagine my hair life without Ina. My hair would be lost, boring and a hot mess. This was the worst experience I've ever had. This review is for s Mone't and the owner. I spoke to Mone't and explained exactly what I wanted and she made me an apt. I went in for highlights and a trim. I told her I wanted on 1/2 inch cut (dry cut for curly hair), and to keep my layers. I showed her a picture and asked if she could do it. She confidently said yes. I also asked that it look natural and that there be no orange or brassy color. She said, "no problem". While there, The conversation consisted of her telling me about her pole dancing classes and her friend traveling across the country to strip. She burnt my ear while curling my hair, after I asked for it to be straightened. I left with orange, yellow, brown, and blond. The ends of my hair are fried and severely damaged. She cut over 4 inches off of my hair, I got no layers but instead a straight cut. I went home and began crying, I've never had such a bad experience. I contacted her and explained how devastated I was, her response was to color it a solid color. When I asked her why she cut 4 inches off, she said she cut off what she felt was needed. The following day I went out and purchased extensions and asked that she help me put them in, She than asked me to no longer contact her. I am so disappointed and shock by the level of unprofessionalism she displayed. I will make sure to let everyone I know how terrible of a service Mone't provided. The owner called me 3 days later and said there was nothing she could do. And when I asked for a corrective service to be done, I was told no and not to come back. I'm very disappointed. read more

I'm always nervous to have bleach in my hair and other crap in it but my hair was soft and the cut was perfect. She will ask you what you want and does it absolutely perfect. Funny, upbeat, awesome. I'm new to the area and used Groupon to find a cut/ombré treatment package. It was very difficult to reach anyone via phone. A few days (and a few messages) later, I got a call back. I missed the call but the voicemail explained that there was not a full time receptionist and I should call back. Another day and a couple of left messages later, I decided to pop in and see if I could get an appointment. Holly, the owner, was very nice and explained that the stylists had their schedule books with them and weren't in at the time. She asked me to call later in the afternoon. You can imagine my hesitancy since it took so long to hear from somebody, but I wasn't ready to give up. Just as I was about to leave, a stylist came in and was able to speak to me. She happened to have had a cancellation that day and asked me to come back in 30 minutes, which I happily obliged. Ina was very sweet and I really appreciated her getting me in on that day. I showed her the cut and the ombre style that I liked. She was receptive and did a good job. I love the color and the cut! I would've given five stars if my color would've turned out a little more like an ombre style and less like full highlights. I would like to have had more contrast. But, like I said, I love the color. and the fact that she got me in on the same day that I popped in made it four-star worthy. read more

After I wrote my initial review, the owner, Holly, called me to say that my review upset the stylist. Holly then said to let her know if the dry cleaner could get the stain out of my dress or not. If the dress is ruined the stylist will pay for or replace my dress. Holly also asked that I not return to the salon. She did give me the name and number of a different stylist, whom I did not call. I've already asked someone else to do my hair. As I said in my initial review, Ina did a good job on my cut and color. I do not look as if my hair is half-finished. Holly also said Ina would call me the next day; it's been a week and Ina has not called. Although, I'm not sure why she would call other than to apologize as she has asked not to finish my hair. At this point an apology is a moot point. Overall, the customer service by the owner has left me feeling dissatisfied. As women, we go to the salon not just to have our hair done, but to feel special and pampered. Holly took that all away. Everything Ina had done was fixable. I got a groupon for an ombré went to the website to see how much services were. There was a special for a keratin treatment. I called and talked to the stylist who convinced me I could do both treatments the same day I was skeptical but my stylist reassured me I'd be fine. I got limited highlights and then the keratin began. It started to burn and I thought was just the flat iron getting to close. I went home $300 later including tip and special shampoo. That night I noticed several strands of hair falling out then it was comin out in chunks. I texted the stylist to see if it would stop and she said it wasn't normal. I emailed and texted and called the Salon and no one would return my calls. I lost enough hair that my family asked if I was sick - like cancer sick. I had to chop my hair off because it was thin and scraggly I eventually had to die my blonde locks brown because my hair could no longer handle chemicals. Never got my money back...so if you want to spend 300 to have your hair fallout cut off and die your natural color then I'd recommend it. read more

Ina really screwed my hair up and it may be a year before I take off my hat! 1) Ina did not seem to care where the color went. I have splotches all over my forehead and neck. 2) I have never had a hairstylist give me hot roots before until now. I received a Groupon as a Mother's Day gift, perhaps because my hair is a beast with a life of its own (my hair products come from WalMart, and I avoid salons because in the past, all I got when I sat in the chair were sad looks and "Who did this to your hair?!"). I got my courage up and made an appointment in September. Have you heard the expression "I'm a beautician, not a magician"? I had my color, cut, and style done by Oscar, and he's a MIRACLE WORKER. My experience was above and beyond anything I could have imagined. I can't think of a single negative thing to say. He's really awesome and I wish I had found him sooner. Before coming to this Salon I hadn't done anything to my hair in about 3 years. My hair was recovering from extreme damage, and I was skeptical about putting any type of chemical in my hair. I was shopping on Groupon for hair packages, after researching and visiting each salon, I decided on one salon. When I first walked into Jane salon to check it out, Oscar took the time to look at my hair and give me advice-mind you I had NO appointment. Although they were extremely busy, it was nice to have a hairstylist look at your hair, listen to your story, and give you advice. So I decided to make an appointment for highlights, cut, and a blow out. My results were amazing! Oscar took his time on my hair, made sure I was satisfied with everything. I brought pictures with me to my appointment, Oscar did EXACTLY what I wanted. My ammonia fee highlights came out perfect! Oscar even gave me his personal cell to call if I had any questions. He also gave me the option to come back to tone my highlights if I thought they were too bright. On another note the blow out truly changed my hair 100%! It's smoother and softer, feels amazing. Bought a living social dramatic ombré coupon and got my hair done by Oscar a couple weeks ago. He definitely knows what he's doing and did an amazing job. This is not a dip-dye ombré job, which is what I've gotten from other places in the past! He was professional and gave good suggestions on the color and my cut. I love my new hair! My 4 stars instead of 5 don't relate to the quality of the work that was done. The living social deal did not specify that base color was not included in the coupon, so that was an extra $40 that I wasn't expecting. And while Oscar did amazing work, he wasn't great at initially communicating what he was asking or how/why he was going to do something. That can be a little intimidating when, as a customer, you really know hardly anything about the science of hair coloring and cutting! OMG HOLLY IS A SUPERSTAR!!! And she made me look like one :) I got color and extensions for my upcoming wedding and WOW did she do an amazing job!! My previous hair color was a disaster, the last person who touched my roots up completely failed to match the color of my outgrown hair - which then with my natural color growing out some more again ended up in an extremely unfortunate stripy look. A fellow stylist and I were volunteering our time to provide a woman her dying wish. She wanted a perm before she died but the hospital wouldn't allow us to perform the perm. So we decided to do a shampoo set but we had NO gel. We walked down the street and went into a barber shop and told them out situation and they were no help. We then proceeding down the street and ran into Jane Salon. The owner was in there cleaning and we told her what we were doing and she helped us out immediately. She was so kind and thoughtful. I bought a groupon for ombre and called to make an appointment. Mariantoniette called me and we set a time. I should mention that the reason I bought the groupon is because I am relatively new to Sacramento and haven't found a hairstylist I trust. I usually have my cousin do my hair but she lives 4 hours away so I decided it was time to find someone local. Mariantoinette and I were the only ones in the salon when I got there. She looked at my hair and said that the group doesn't apply to me because I had bleached pink hair and what I was asking for was a color correction and not a ombre. She saw the look of panic in my eyes because I'm a poor college student and said that she would try to get my color out do the ombre and only charge me an additional $50 unless I needed to do more to get the color out then we'd talk more. She totally calmed me down and reassured me that she would do her best to fix my hair and not have to charge me extra. She was so wonderful to my hair! She really took the time to apply the lightener in multiple layers to make sure it covered my whole head. She then had me sit under the dryer to make sure it got the pink out. But sadly it didn't. My hair turned to a lighter pink . Mariantoinette suggested we put the toner on and see how much it would cover. She very patiently sat with my hair and messaged the color in. Once it was done, it looked amazing!! There is a little bit of a pink tint to my hair and Mariantoinette said I could lighten it more if I'd like to. I asked her hoenstly what she thought. She told me she really loved how it came out. I told her I did too! She then cut and styled my hair. The whole time we had an awesome conversation and she made me feel so comfortable. Overall, my experience was amazing. She could have easily charged me a crazy amount but she didn't. She was so patient and made my hair look amazing. I was worried that my hair would come out too blonde or orange but it came out to a perfect ashy blonde. I love it and I love Mariantoinette. Seriously, I highly recommend her!!! read more

Ina is amazing! As an African-american woman with naturally curly and course hair, it is so difficult to find a stylist with the care and skill required to care for my tresses. Ina did just that! First off, this review is for Oscar - I read great things about him on here, and I wanted to see for myself if the reviews were true. And let me tell you, he is as fabulous as everyone says! I had been looking for a salon in the Sac area for a good haircut and color. After scoping out a couple places, I decided on this salon, and particularly on Oscar. I wanted my base color, as well as my ombre, lighter. In order to do this, Oscar had to do a bleach bath (?), then color the base of my hair, lighten my end, tone it, and then give me a haircut. I was in the salon from 10 am to about 3 pm, and Oscar was patient with my difficult hair. When he was done, I was so happy with my haircut! However, both he and I were not happy with the way my color turned out. He asked me if I was free to come back later that night to fix my hair, free of charge. Oscar told me he would not let me walk around with hair he was not perfectly happy with! It was so nice to hear a hairstylist to say that! Anyways, I went back later that night and he darkened my roots to my liking, and lightened my ends a little bit more. It was pretty late, so I went home right away and realized that my hair turned out a bit too light for me. I texted Oscar the next morning asking if he had time to fit me in the same week to make my hair a bit darker. He texted me back right away, saying to come in that same day right after I got off work! After seeing him one more time, I have the perfect color I have always wanted. He made the ombre fade look extremely natural (the most natural I have ever seen), and it was apparent that his goal was to make me, the client, happy! She ended up running really behind because the girl ahead of me had tons of hair and was also doing a blowout, but she was apologetic and didn't rush my appointment at all, even though it was getting late. She took her time to do all the steps of the keratin treatment and then asked me plenty of questions about what I wanted in a haircut. read more

I Wrote a review on this salon and it appears because it was not the flowery "yes they are great" review it was moved to what yelp calls "other reviews that are not currently recommended" it's right below page 1, written in light grey so you can barely see it. There you will find 25 reviews of unsatisfied JANE customers who received horrible customer service and botched colors and cuts. So I will go ahead and add to my review dated 11/26/13. I had a horrible experience with this salon and its stylist Oscar. I went in for and Ombre coloring and haircut and consequently was convinced to pay an additional $60.00 for base color which did not take and ombre coloring which instead of the light brown I requested turned into and orange brassy color that damaged my hair to such extent that I had to make an appointment with my regular stylist to correct. I was then convinced to purchase a keratin treatment for $99 to help with the damage. In total after the cost of the groupon the additional base color and tip I paid around $250.00-$300. I called Oscar to request a refund for the botched base color and ombre and once again all I reached was a voicemail and finally just fed up requested a refund for all services on the voicemail. Oscar called back and stated he would refund the keratin treatment; he made no mention of a partial or full refund for my botched hair color or even an attempt to apologize for the damage he caused to my hair and the extra expense I incurred. Oscar said he would be refunding me the kerating treatment in a few days. Unfortunately after patiently waiting I was unable to locate the credit given so I called the salon and once again spoke with their lovely voicemail. Shortly thereafter I received and angry call from Holly the owner of the salon, in which she angrily gave me the date and to what card the refund was processed. Again no apology from this person just a call to chastise me because "she saw my yelp review" As a customer I would have expected the stylist or the voicemail I guess to call me and say your refund was processed on such and such date. After speaking irately about my review, Holly then requested to speak to my "parents" I am way past the age where my parents even need to get involved in this issue. Obviously this owner is very involved with her salon as she thought I was a child. Fact is I asked for a FULL refund for the base hair color and the groupon cost for the "hombre" this was not done. The owner holly didn't care one bit that the hair extensions I received ruined my hair after only having them in one week. I called to ask if they would condition my hair because of the damaged I received from the color process they did prior to my extensions being put in and she said no that they didn't want a customer like me back and she said was harassing her stylist by crying and asking for help with my hair. I need to make a special thanks to ms. Holly the owner of this salon. I admit im a respectivly a girly girl! proud of it! with that in mind i get my hair done regularly, i started going to Jane in the midst of conflict with being unsatisfied at another salon in midtown. I wasnt hip enough to hang with the "pretentious" dont have time to deal with you unless you have some sort of arm tattoo/ and hang out with the same people at the same bar every night, hence talk about being wasted every night to another co-worker about it , then charging you 60 bucks! Doesnt that sound "Fly"?? Anyway Jane has about four chairs the owner Holly is proffesional and dedicated to it. With my plain dark straight hair i leave there feeling above average. This review is based solely on my experience trying to book an appointment with this salon. I purchased a Groupon for a cut with Ina. I need a new stylist because my long time stylist recently moved so I thought I'd try a Groupon deal. I purchased the Groupon and called the salon to book my appointment. The phone rang for awhile then a voicemail picked up that said they don't have a receptionist, which I thought was kind of odd, but I figured that it's maybe a small salon. Then it listed the personal numbers for the stylists. When I called Ina it went to voicemail with the generic stock message phones come with, no personalized message to let a client know that they even have the right number. So I left a message with my name and number and my request to make an appointment for a cut. I waited a day and didn't get a response so I called again at a different time of the day hoping that might help me get an answer, but no, so I left another voicemail, waited another day and still no call. I made one last attempt at yet another different time of day and same story. I never received a call back. Its a shame because she could be a great stylist but I don't have the time or patience to nag someone to take my money. And I know that a Groupon client probably isn't the most desired client because I'm sure a lot of them get the deal and tip like crap and never come back, but since ive been in the restaurant industry my whole life I'm a generous tipper and I really was looking for a new stylist. Ultimately I contacted Groupon and asked them if I could transfer the funds of the purchase to a different salon. They were obliging and even gave me an extra 20% off the new one. So five stars for Groupon! Hopefully the salon finds a way to receive calls for appointments that is more convenient. I'm sure it will lead to more business. read more

I am a very picky person when it comes to my hair and i have gone years without finding the perfect stylist. I finally found Oscar two years ago and he makes my life so much easier. i have gone to him for color and cuts and everytime i put my hair in his hands, it comes out perfect. when i tell him exactly what i want, he does it. and when i tell him to do whatever he thinks will make me look beautiful, he does it! ive never trusted someone more than i trust him. everytime im in public, people ask me where i get my hair done and honestly, i dont want to tell because i want him all to myself! he has helped me migrate away from my old looks and gave me confidence to try new things. he is extremely passionate in what he does and he is a perfectionist, which is great for us clients! I never post on Yelp, but felt compelled after the awful experience i had at this salon. I had a groupon for the keratin and a cut which was a good deal, and after reading the other reviews booked my appt, but ended up with AMY. She was nice enough, completed the keratin, and then started to cut my hair after it was straightened, and she had no idea what she was doing. I asked for long layers and she took chunks of my hair and just cut various chunks all the same length, which varied by chunk. I could see in the mirror that her cutting technique was like nothing i had ever seen so i asked her to stop a minute and she handed me a mirror to see the back and was APALLED at what she called layers! there were chuncks of hair at all different lengths, nothing blended it was all choppy. THen i asked to her to blend them and then she proceeded just to make it worse. I finally told her that she had to stop and that i would have to go somewhere else to get it cut. She asked a lot of questions on exactly how i wanted my hair cut (like only layers in the back), and i finally said to her that no one has ever asked me those questions when they cut my hair, i usually say long layers and the stylists know what that means, so i told her that she was the professional and that she should know what long layers mean and how to blend them into somoenes hair. Follow up to a previous review and still as happy with my stylist Candace. She's really great with color and cut and a joy to go to. Love the keratin treatment also. I got an ombre and haircut done there with Mone't about 2 months ago now. Very nice and courteous, offered me a glass of wine off the get go. Very cool and interesting to talk to. Took her time with my hair and asked specifically(with swatches) what colors I wanted. Let her know(since I have sensitive skin) that after the ombre was done my scalp was a bit itchy so she put more of the soothing product in it. I am actually from Stockton and drove all the way up since I had read such great reviews. I had found the offer on groupon and she respected the price without me having to purchase the gorupon. Total it was $90. Will definitely go to her again. read more
