I went there today for the 1st time and I am so happy I did. The pastrami sandwiches they make on Wednesdays (and apparently also on Fridays) were fabulous, our sons loved the meatball sandwiches I got them. Kielbasas and breakfast sausages to be eaten tomorrow. They also sell classic franks, jalapeno and cheese franks, pirogi, head cheese, roast beef, turkey ham, pickles, freshly ground horseradish, sauerkraut etc. And it was so good, that we decided, that those Pastrami sandwiches will be our new tradition every month, we really enjoyed it that much. Bring cash because you cannot pay by card or you can take money out from a bank machine which is in the store. Service is very polite and nice. Apparently a lot of people come regularly as they know each others names. Really nice to see. Prices are great, our pastrami sandwiches were 7,95!! Happy we live so close, will be back soon and if anything changes I will update my review. read more

My family has discovered this meat market - and I'm so glad we did. We get the BLTs (on a roll with lettuce, tomato and mayo). They are amazing. You could probably make two sandwiches out of the bacon on one sandwich alone. This is our new go to place for hot dogs, kielbasa, etc. Can't wait to try the other things they make. I stopped by here to pick up Kielbasa and some hot dogs to bring to a barbeque. They were awesome. Don't expect to be walking into disneyland when you arrive. It does not matter anyway because the things I bought were great. The place is an old school type butcher store. I will definitely be coming here again in the future. read more

YUM YUM YUM First of all Larry, the owner is the nicest guy ever. His homemade items are tremendous and never short on taste or flavor. Here is what i cannot live without. Here goes, his homemade bologna, liverwurst, spicy polish loaf, homemade hot dogs and Spanish hot dogs along with his breakfast sausage are items like you never ever had before. Thank GOD he is right in Mahwah , NJ To get these gems of food, I grew up in the 50's and feel I am back in time when quality meant everything. Make sure you stop there and try everyone of these items and you will be a customer forever. None better. Wherever you are, it is well worth the drive to indulge in these amazingly delicious meats. Local friends have a BBQ every 4th of July and they serve Janek's hot dogs each and every year. I'm not a huge hotdog eater, but even I noticed there was something special about these. "Where are they from?" I asked the host. "Janek's" she said. "Always." And I can see why. They cook up plump and juicy and make that *snap* sound when you bite into them. The Platonic ideal hotdog. The term "legend" does not do these hot dogs justice, and that's the only thing I've ever had from them. It looks like they are a multi-generation store and it's easy to see why, with family products like these. My only very slight warning is that they tend to close for two weeks in the summer, so plan accordingly. read more

Old time butcher/deli store in Mahwah with fixings from decades gone by. The proprietor, Larry, is super friendly. Everything is top quality. Highly recommend their Polish kielbasa as well as their sausages and hot-dogs. Greta breakfast sandwiches also. Since it's the only Polish deli within miles I gave it a try. The kielbasa ring I purchased was better than mass produced and professionally manufactured of course, but I wish there had been a better choice. My mom Joan Schneider has gone to Janek's for a very long time - probably since he opened! She goes primarily for his fantastic fresh Polish ham kielbasa (made on site weekly), pierogis, and cruchiki (sp?) A fantastic kielbasa weather served as entree w mashed potato and sauerkraut or w scrambled eggs for breakfast When my sisters or I visit my parents from Cleveland, Louisville, or Kansas City we make a point of going to to Janek's to buy a couple of rings. My mom and Dad moved from Mahwah to Kansas recently near my one sister and have planned to have a friend in Mahwah mail them 2 or 3 rings of kielbasa every few months.
