Dr. Yu is one of those rare NYC dentists who will NOT tell that you have multiple cavities that require fillings just to make money. I had a cleaning done at Pearl Dental, and the dentist there told me I had 3 cavities (this was during the high point of the pandemic when business was slow). That dentist made it sound like my teeth were going to rot to the core if I did not get the fillings immediately, and did not provide any specific explanation for why I needed fillings. Thanks to a friend's recommendation, I came to see Dr.Yu, who found that two of the cavities were just dark spots, and only one cavity actually needed filling. Dr.Yu took photos of each of the alleged cavity and explained in detail why each was not a real cavity, and why the one that was a cavity might need filling, and the potential danger of overdoing fillings. One thing to keep in mind is that her office's interior is quite cramped and does not look very fancy compared to the other dentists I saw. But I took it to be a good sign that she is not one of those dentists who is not out to make money at the expense of patient health. Most of her clients come through referrals, not Yelp reviews, which is why you won't see a lot of five star reviews that are likely from paid fake reviewers on here for her. read more

Dr. Yu is personable, genuine and knowledgable. I came in for x-rays and a cleaning and also to ask a 2nd opinion about some nerve pain I've been having that I was told was due to decay behind a filling by a previous dentist. Dr. Yu showed me the x-rays and told me she didn't see any decay and went over other differential diagnoses for what might be causing my nerve pain. She explained things very well and did a very thorough job with the cleaning. Her assistant is friendly as well. I highly recommend this dental office. read more

Dr Yu is the most professional, caring and honest dentist. I am very grateful to her for saving my tooth and a few thousand dollars. A few years ago I had a tooth ache and went to my previous dentist. One of my fillings was not closed properly and in a few years got an infection. He said that this tooth is a lost cause and wanted to pull it out and make an implant for close to 5K. He totally forgot that he was the one who did the bad filling job. I never had an implant and it was very hard for me to come to terms with this idea. I also, did not have full faith in that dentist after what happened. I am so happy that I called Dr Yu's office for a second opinion. She was booked up, but still talked to me on the phone for 20 minutes and gave me great advice to get rid of the inflammation for the time being. This showed me that she is a doctor who truly cares. When I came to the appointment, I was greeted by very nice staff and she cleaned out the leftovers of the infection and redid my filling. Dr Yu is such an awesome dentist! I highly recommend her. My husband and I recently researched good dentists in the city who accept our insurance. Dr Yu came highly recommended on Yelp so we made our first appointments with her just last week. From the very beginning, Dr Yu provided a personalized touch. For instance when I called to make my appt and confirm my insurance, a pleasant voice answered and I figured it was her secretary at the front desk. Nope! It was Dr Yu herself! I think she handles a lot of the paperwork and even confirms your insurance before you arrive at your appointment. It's also my understanding that she makes a point of contacting you before you arrive at your appointment if she finds that anything will NOT be covered by insurance. Talk about being a proactive, compassionate doctor! I have literally never experienced that in all my 32 years until now. Thank you so much, Dr Yu! When I made it to my appt, she knew exactly who I was and was eager to works with me to see how she could help. She asked me about myself, and it's easy to see that she truly cares about her patients. Dr Yu is extremely down to earth! Her assistant, Lyn, is also very kind and amiable. After having really horrible experiences with dentists for pretty much my entire life, I was determined never to go to one again unless I was heavily sedated...Until I met Dr. Yu! A friend of mine recommended Dr. Yu and I am in love! She is so thorough and beyond patient. She is sensitive to my past negative experiences and is incredibly gentle. So far I have had 3 visits that required novacaine injections which is usually a horrible experience but she makes it a much easier and smoother experience with numbing gel and patience! If you flinch while she is working on your teeth she confirms that you are okay before continuing- what dentist does that? It is refreshing to know that there is a dentist like her out there and I am so lucky to have met her. I will no longer be close to her office but will travel any distance just to see her. I completely trust her with my teeth and will not go to anyone else. The office is also very clean and the reception area is pleasant. I also really appreciate and adore Shirley who is her assistant. Dr. Yu is one of the only doctors who accepts my insurance and DOESN'T have negative reviews somewhere online - so I booked a cleaning with her a couple weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised! Dr. Yu doesn't have a receptionist, so I spoke to her directly when I called to make the appointment, and she called me back herself a few days later to confirm. I have *VERY* sensitive teeth and have nothing but pure, uncloaked hatred for that evil metal pick tool - and when I told Dr. Yu my concerns, she immediately suggested that we use a topical numbing gel during my cleaning to ease the pain. WHAAATT!?!? Why had no other dentist ever suggested this to me?!? I left my appointment happy as a freshly flossed clam - the gel worked perfectly, Dr. Yu was an absolute sweetheart, and my teeth felt impeccably cleaned. I'll definitely be back. read more

I came to Dr Yu in a time of panic, when my jaw was swollen, my wisdom teeth were hurting, and gums aching. Rather than just focusing on my wisdom teeth concerns, Dr Yu took the time to find out everything's going on with my teeth (cavities), educated me on what's happening and laid out a plan to fix everything. Pleased that Dr. Yu was the first dentist I called when I moved to NYC. She is very cautious about your dental health and at the same time, makes sure everything she does is covered by your health insurance. If it's not, she lets you know what to expect for a bill before doing anything, so there aren't any surprises. She's very informative if you have any questions and she seems to be pretty available if you need to make an appointment. I know there are a few days of the week when she's not in, but for the most part, she has a pretty good office schedule... and I love the fact that the office doesn't close right at 5, which lets me see her when I get out of work during the week. Clean office on Lexington and very organized. I spent my 1-year anniversary check-up with her last week and got new X-Rays and everything. After that and cleaning, I was out in about 30 minutes. I completely trust Dr. Yu with my teeth. She is very organized. She confirms appointments herself. The two times I called her office, she answered the phone! When I had my filling done, she numbed me first. First, she gave me a numbing gel and then she gave me a shot of novacaine. Never had a dentist gave me numbing gel first before shooting me with novacaine and you all know that it stings like hell!!! The novacaine shot is pretty high on the scary scale for me. Most dentists are in a rush to get you over with, so that they can move on to the next patient, but Dr. Yu took the time to apply the numbing gel before shooting the novacaine. The numbing gel is completely unnecessary, but she did it anyway. And she did this without knowing that I hate novacaine shots. She just did it because she is trying to decrease as much pain as possible. I don't know about you, but a dentist that cares about limiting my pain to a bare minimum is about as good as it will get. Then, while she was doing the filling, I flinched once and she stopped immediately and asked me if I felt anything. Do I want more anesthesia or do I want her to continue? Dentists are so used to patients flinching that most of them don't even notice the flinches anymore and just keep on going. But not Dr. Yu. At one point, she told me to keep my eyes closed, which I did, and I swear I almost fell asleep! How many times can you remember almost falling asleep while a dentist is drilling in your mouth? read more

Dr. Yu is very kind and ensures that everything with your insurance is fine and covers the intended work. The office is on the ground level, very cozy, comfortable and has a reception. I found Dr. Yu because of the good reviews on Yelp, and I wholeheartedly agree with them. I called on a Saturday and was able to make an appointment the following Tuesday. Every other dentist I've gone to requires separate visits to fill cavities because of (I assume) the time needed for develop the film. My xrays were immediately available on a computer in the room. Due to a cancellation, Dr. Yu was able to do the cleaning and fill my cavity in the same visit. She was friendly and patient and concerned about my comfort. It was the only novacaine injection I've ever had that didn't hurt in the slightest, and it was on the front of my gums, which can be notoriously painful. And the filling, which is on a front tooth, looks perfect. She also used a combination of water pick and metal pick for the cleaning, which I find more comfortable than just the metal pick. read more
