Well, here I am back in La La Land doing some work that needed to be done. Staying at my dear friend's condo in Westwood with a view of the Mormon Temple and Santa Catalina. Being so close to a zillion restaurants at my feet, my friend's "significant" said let's do some Mediterranean food tonight. I put my thumbs-up and it was unanimous: Sunnin Lebanese Cafe on Westwood Blvd. and Santa Monica Blvd. it was. Well, I never heard of this place, but I said "let's Go"! When we pulled up to this strip mall entrance that was overflowing with human beings wanting a table at very happy this very we had a RESY. We ordered: * Hummus of course - which was delicious * Babaganouj - which was creamy and extremely dippicle [sic] * Beef Kafta Kebab - just lovely * Taboulah Salad - that was excellent * Fool or Ful depending on what Mideast country - was deepened with fava beans * Alamaza Lebanese beer that paired perfectly with our dinner. The staff here were friendly, helpful and accommodating. I've been gone from Los Angeles close to five years now, and every time I come back, I get a nice surprise like I did at Sunnin. read more

At Sunnin, enjoy delicious Lebanese dishes. Get an assortment of mezze and dive into a Mediterranean style of eating. The zucchini is firm, just soft enough, but still with the perfect amount of structure. It has been hollowed out and stuffed with ingredients similar to a dolma (stuffed grape leaf). The filling of rice and ground beef is soft. The eggplant is much softer. They are cooked in a tomato sauce and served with a cool creamy yogurt. Babaganouj: This mezze is a roasted eggplant dip. absolutely divine. Clean, fresh food, deeply savory flavors. one of if not the best of the eastern Mediterranean restaurants in LA. You must get the garlic lemon potatoes! best thing on the menu! Bury me in a tub of them and let me eat my way out! The humus is full flavor, not the Erewhjon/Whole Foods garbonzo mush with the flavor of wet salted paper. It is smooth and savory and seasoned with enough tahini and cumin. The fool is warm and tasty, moist kebabs, and I love the fried cauliflower. read more

We stopped in for a light lunch, ordered the falafel wrap and the shish tawook plate. While the food was fine, I was not thrilled with the chicken being so light, perhaps a little more time in the heat would have given it that great flavor and not taste to bland. The falafel wrap was excellent, soft and flavorful and not overdone with parsley. Prices are a bit high, service is nice, but a bit slow in getting back to your table. Parking is terrible, only a few limited spots and it's very likely that you will have to have to find meter parking. read more

Looking for truly authentic Lebanese cuisine with a mid eastern vibe... Well, this is the place! Located just outside of Beverly Hills in Westwood... we stopped on our way to Marina Del Ray for a quick bite that ended up being almost 2 hours!! Why? So many great items on the menu ... Since I'm the only member of the family not Lebanese, as my wife and son have a blend, I've learned to appreciate the food for the past 35 years!! So, of course they order a bunch of different things to eat and share. Toss in a couple of Corona's for the men... and, dig in. Juliet our server was great. This was my first visit to Sunnin and have heard many great things. We were looking for somewhere to eat before getting back on the north 405 nightmare. The staff were very friendly. The parking can be tricky, but they do have parking spots along the restaurant. The restaurant has a great feel and the restrooms were clean. There is plenty of seating inside; great place for large parties. Outside eating is lackluster as it is a parking lot with an easyup. There is an extensive menu and once we decided we were so happy with our choices. We order the Beef Kefta Kebab Plate and the Mixed Shawarma. The meat is so flavorful and tender. The rice was also yummy. The portions are large so we had enough to take home for lunch the next day. We will most definitely be back when we are in the area again and hope you give them a try as well. read more

Delicious food and amazing service! I really enjoyed the Beef Kefta Plate. This is my favorite Lebanese restaurant on the west coast.

I had lunch here this past week. I've been here many times over the years. Free-standing building in west LA with a bit of on-site parking. Generally, pretty to easy to find street parking nearby if the on-site lot is full. The setting is a bit dated but well-kept and clean. The service has always been great. The food is good. I had the Beef Kafta (4/5) which comes with a side of salad, rice and humus (w/ pita). Big portion for the price. The server was nice enough to offer us a free dessert. Not sure the name of it was it was great. I'll definitely be back. read more

I haven't been to Sunnin for over a decade, when I was a young lad I used to frequent this spot and always loved their lentil soup. Came in today and ordered that soup with some slices of lemons, boy that soup brought me back to my early 20s. What a wonderful time warp! I also ordered their chicken kefta kebab plate, the chicken was good, the rice was ok (it tasted reheated), salad was delicious, the side hot green sauce was really nice as well. The clouds were out, covering up the fact that it was a warm summer day. Those clouds served as a focal point as I drifted into the comforts of daydreaming. Suddenly, I snapped back to what we call the moment, only to realize I wasn't sure where I was. Sweat slid down my forehead as I started to accept my new dementia filled reality. First things first, how did I get here and why am I here? I remember driving here with my beautiful co-pilot that now sits across from me but I cannot remember where I am. That was when my olfactory senses brought me back to my known reality. The smell of hummus, hot falafel, tabouleh, spicy potatoes and Shish Tawook. I knew exactly where I was but I decided to verify my sanity by asking the waiter, "Excuse me, did you guys move?" Been coming here for years. Family owned and a small business! My go to: Falafel entree. I'm gonna say these are my favorite falafels in west LA. Like they are PERFECT. They're crispy on the outside and so tender on the inside. Not grainy at all. Not salty. They're amazing. Comes with the most refreshing salad, and soft rice. And the HUMMUS, 10/10 too! My first visit here I had the hummus kawarma and warak enab. Both were delicious. It's hard to find really good warak enab. My second visit I got the mezze combo and the mixed shawarma. Mezze was delicious and enough for 2-3 people... the hummus, baba, tabbouleh, and kibbeh were the stars. Now idk if it was because they were an hour to close but their shawarma was really terrible... old, inedible and like that texture of like dry overcooked meat that is disintegrating... especially the beef. My bf ate the chicken because he felt bad, I could not, and the beef was worse than the chicken. Told the server and she charged us for the chicken plate instead of the mixed. Also gave us free ashta which was ok. Disappointing because I really liked their other food. I guess I would recommend getting kabobs instead of shawarma. read more

I had a craving for some good Lebanese food. I was shocked the place was slept empty but people started to stagger in after 4pm. They also get a lot of delivery/ Uber Eats deliveries. The staff was polite and they had nice set up inside with big windows to let the natural light in. I had the Shish Tawook plate and mint tea. One of the local standouts for Lebanese food, super homey vibe, they've been around forever for good reason. The shared parking lot is quite small, even tiny, especially after outdoor seating took a few spaces. Just about everything on the menu is tasty, although I will admit I'm basic and stick to hummus, baba ganoush, and kebabs most of the time. Not a huge fan of the grape leaves but I know others are. Service is both friendly and efficient most of the time, even when they're swamped with to-go orders. It's a little Lebanese restaurant with 4 spots or so off Westwood blvd. I ended up street parking by a meter. They have an outdoor patio that edges into the parking lot. Inside has some ambiance but really the food is the star here. My aunt got an eggplant and ground beef dish with tomato sauce and rice. She took half of it home after lunch. I was hungry so I ate all of my cubed chicken (like a plate of kebab meat). The garlic sauce was to die for. The salad on the side was huge and it came with a bunch of rice too. My meal plus half a baba ganoush appetizer meant I didn't need to eat dinner that evening. One complaint - pitas were very thin and kind of flavorless. Served with some thin pita bread it was a light starter with a strong lemon flavor profile. Combo grill - $33 - This came with Lebanese rice, side salad, hummus, and 3 kabobs (kafta, beef, and chicken). The hummus was chunkier than I had hoped for and the salad was pedestrian The beef had good flavor but was slightly chewy and the chicken was tender but needed more seasoning. The kafta kabob on the other hand was tender, juicy and bursting with flavor and the best kafta I tried. Overall, I thought the food was good, but way over priced. Casual spot in Westwood with a friendly staff. The Lebanese/Mediterranean fare has been consistently good for years. This round we opted to get take out with a mezze combo and grill combo. While it's a bit pricey, it is quality and you get quite a bit of food for each of the combos. They asked how we prefer the meat and they did not disappoint with medium rare. Beef Shawarma Wrap 3.44/10- was so excited to try this place as they specialize in authentic and halal Lebanese food but honestly, what a letdown. The pita bread was completely wet and soggy and literally fell apart the second I unwrapped it, making it impossible to eat properly. The beef also didn't have much flavor. The wrap had this overwhelming sour flavor that I've never experienced in any shawarma before - it was so strong that it completely masked any other seasonings or flavors that should have been there. The food was also lukewarm and the green spicy sauce they gave us wasn't that spicy and was also more closely similar to salsa which I wasn't expecting. The only remotely positive things I can say are they didn't skimp on the beef portion and the service was quick and good- but that doesn't make up for a subpar product. I can't believe that I haven't tried this place! Even when I was living on Veteran Ave and La Grange for several years. But I've grown to love good Mediterranean food. My friend has been recommending this place for years. Today, I finally got to try Sunnin. Thr 2 of us shared 2 pita wraps: Falafel and beef shawarma. A simple lunch before going back to work. It was so good that I forgot to take pictures of the falafel pita. The first bite was an explosion of flavors: crunchy falafel balls, pickled vegetable, creamy sauces, hummus. Yummy. Then I remembered to take a pic of the beef shawarma pita wrap before devouring it. Also good, but I enjoyed the falafel wrap better. Next time Ill try the other wraps. Or come for dinner, where I can sit and enjoy a bigger meal. Charming dining room. Casual place. The other Mediterranean restaurant nearby, Shamshiri Grill, is finer dining (white table cloths, etc), but Sunnin is a casual, convenient, and tasty. The food here was toooo good. I could scarf down like 20 kebabs if I was that ravenous. Our combo plate had a little bit of everything. Chicken? Perfection. Beef? Perfection. Talk about grilling! Hummus-- delivered. Such a tasty, tasty meal with refreshing vegetables and fluffy rice. Middle eastern food you have my heart. The decor was really homey and the colors of the plates really balanced well with the colors of the entire place! I love the geometry and intricacies of different the fixtures and fabrics. This place needs to return back to its roots a small takeout sandwich stand across the street where it started. The food back, then was excellent! There is an older woman who runs this shop and she is more wicked than any witch you'll find on the west side. She has killed this business because of her bad behavior and terrible attitude, she scowls at anyone who steps through the door. Only one of sons is lovely. All my Lebanese / Arab friends and clients say they will not go to this restaurant because of her. Apparently, they started very poor and very humble, and that has changed. The young kids who have taken over are wonderful. This is a review for the sons. Get rid of your mother out of this restaurant. Whenever you are not there, she is beyond out of control. When I go to this restaurant at a minimum my order at least 5 to 7 dishes I won't do that anymore. I went in there to take out food because I refused to sit down in this restaurant anymore, and she scowled at me because I was already helped by the young gentlemen at the front. Sadly, if I'm going to spend a buck 50 and constantly get harassed by this woman there's no point. The food is not worth the hassle. Advice the food is good. Take it to go, but in all honesty there are better restaurants out there. This is just convenient. The food quality has gone down significantly as I was walking in. I saw them bringing in groceries from Trader Joe's. Quickly getting new dishes together. The chicken shawarma is just incredibly bland, the steak shawarma is just no better. The rice was not delicious (needs to be cooked in broth) and the pita bread was cold. The stuffed zucchini was actually pretty tasty which was redeeming! But overall just doesn't remind me of home :( read more

for a plate to be $30, in this wretched economy??? that plate better make be start doing cartwheels and 360 spin dips!!! yes the plate was good, but it was not significantly better that what i would get elsewhere for a more reasonable lunch price. i will give you props. the steak was nicely medium rare. everything was quite generous. the salad was good. i got a pita and as much spicy green garlic sauce as the heart desired. there will be many a leftover from this plate. but for $30 and from the stellar reviews I saw on google, I was looking to be wowed. the rice was overly soft and lacked flavor. this might be a controversial take... but i prefer the buttery toothsome rice from massis kabob. Unfortunately I felt slightly robbed today. Maybe it was my own tomfoolery and intense craving for a kebab plate that shrouded my judgement. But if you're thinking... "gosh, a $30 plate?
