Arrived at Janet's a few minutes after it opened on a weekday and it was already busy--always a good sign! We were seated quickly and the service was very friendly and efficient. Our server was clearly experienced and as this was our first time, she gave us some excellent breakfast recommendations. As billed, the large, fluffy pancakes were a star of the show, and enjoyed them with creamy butter as well as warm maple syrup for one and their own berry jam on the other. Delicious. The over easy eggs were cooked perfectly as well as the sausage patties. Also grabbed a side of hashbrowns which were crispy and well seasoned. You guys! I'm bummed I am posting this because we recently moved to the area and I want to do everything I can to support locally but unfortunately we didn't have a great experience at Janet's. Let me share what I did like first: We enjoyed the vibe inside, everyone felt like they knew each other and knew the staff and that's exactly what we love about Mom + Pop Shops. We ate in the morning and the light was shining pretty gnarly into the glass windows, I appreciated that they had a make shift covering that they put up to help with the amount of sun that is let in. Anything is better than nothing for sure! Also, I really liked the hashbrowns- that's where this place gets a star for me because I hateeee when breakfast/brunch places do the home style potatoes instead of these yummy shredded hashbrowns. I asked for extra crispy and I felt that they delivered. Now let's get into why I am sad to leave this review- but I have to be honest if we had a choice between this place and Penny Ann's it's going to be Penny Ann's no contest. This establishment is very small (about 8 tables) and not well kept. There is dirt, dust, and cobwebs everywhere and if the dining area is not well kept- it makes me very nervous about what it looks like where my food is being cooked. Also as a heads up- the French Toast I'm almost 100% sure is sourdough. We did not know that and there was no writing saying that was the case so it was unfortunately an unpleasant surprise. Also while I was eating I bit into this hard wire/string thing and that immediately met my last straw and unfortunately we decided to ask for the check and our family left. Unsatisfied and unsure why this restaurant had such high ratings. My husband always wants breakfast and if the time is near lunch I would want lunch. We both had breakfast today. I had the breakfast burrito and added sausage. It was large and tasty. My husband had the #2. Omgosh! It was gigantic!! He could not finish it all. I helped a little, just to taste it, and it still wasn't gone. The pancakes were moist and tasty. The service was perfect. They work as a team and we never had to ask for anything. They came around with coffee and refilled my tea before it was empty. That is big points in my book!! This restaurant is very small with only maybe 7 tables plus maybe 4 counter seats. This is close to the SLC airport so it is very convenient if you are coming or going. What a great brunch spot in Northern Salt Lake. Ordered the Garden Scramble, Eggs Benedict and Cinnamon Roll. All were top notch and we left super pleased with our Sunday morning brunch. The vegetables and eggs from the Garden Scramble were cooked perfectly and a good brunch-sized portion. The side of homemade salsa was a great addition. The Eggs Benedict is not too heavy and was equally as tasty as the scramble. The Eggs Benedict is only offered on the weekend. The Cinnamon Roll was a delight! Super soft and moist, with a sweet glaze that wasn't too heavy. The ambiance is what you'd hope for in a small, hidden gem brunch spot - nice and cozy with friendly, approachable staff. The staff was helpful in narrowing down our selections. They were attentive and came back to check on coffee and other needs. We were lucky to arrive when there wasn't too much of a wait. Janet shows us that it doesn't necessarily take a large space to make a big impact. The Sunshine Café uses every square inch of the restaurant to seat guests at tables or at the counter-leaving just what's necessary for the kitchen area. The walls are even maxed out with cool vintage art and witty signs. No space goes to waste. My wife and I enjoyed breakfast at the counter where we got to interact with staff and watch the magic happen at the grill. Something about seeing how the sausage is made, so to speak, makes me enjoy the experience of dining out even more. The food was terrific, coffee hot and never ran out and the staff was attentive and friendly. I left with a full belly and sunshine in my soul today. read more

We stopped in to Janet's Sunshine Cafe for breakfast on Thursday morning while visiting our daughter in Salt Lake. We love breakfast, and someone recommended this place. The restaurant itself is tiny, but what a HIDDEN GEM! Meat lovers omelette, Biscuits and gravy breakfast with eggs and bacon, the granola pancake with warm butter and syrup was so good!!! And the southwest omelette, hash browns and toast. We had some of Janet's homemade strawberry and peach jam for our toast, and the salsa on the omelette which was so fresh with cilantro and just so wonderful. Kristen took such great care of us. We really wish we were in town for longer. I hate to spoil a secret...but this place serves awesome food! And so much of it, that we had some to take home! One tip though, only eat here if you want a great no nonsense breakfast. They don't need any bougie customers. read more

I really don't want to draw any additional attention to this café. It's almost always busy and it's a small place to begin with and I selfishly want to keep it for myself. This is by far the best breakfast in South Davis County. All components of their breakfasts are cooked fantastically . I like the classic eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, bacon, and they cook all of that to perfection. The owner and the staff and the chefs in the back are all very nice and work very hard and very fast. Their portion sizes are enormous so be careful or you might inadvertently order lunch and dinner along with your breakfast, due to leftovers. I have heard that their salads are also fantastic. If you are lucky enough to be there on the day they make their Hungarian Mushroom soup, you must try some! read more

What an endearing little cafe! The moment we walked in, we knew it had been worth the drive. We took our seats at the bar and immediately begin reading and enjoying the eclectic and comical wall decor. From the staff to the food, everything here is outstanding. The portions are enormous! What happened to this place? It had always been about the third place in the Bountiful/NSL area but somehow this place has fallen even farther behind. Go to Ramblin or Alice's way before this place. This place needs to especially step up thier game with a Penny Ann's coming to Bountiful on February. But that is not what's happening. I spoke with three other people during my 25 minute wait that also said they'd never be back and were shocked by what was happening. I ordered a burrito to go and came the 20 minutes later that I was told to come. I get there and pay and give a tip and they say it will be "a few minutes". Ten minutes later after waiting outside the lady comes out and tries to give me the wrong food. So then she tells me to wait just "a few minutes longer". Fifteen minutes later I have to come in and ask what is going on. So I'm totall I was waiting about twenty five minutes on top of the twenty minutes they told me originally. The lady explains kind of rudely "I can't find your order, I guess we messed up." I explained "but I already paid and gave a tip" to which she's said "yeah I know, it'll be a few minutes." She offers very little in the way of apology or explanation and offered no refund or way to make it right. And on top of it all they had the wrong meat in the burrito! Hahah. It was almost laughable it was such a bad experience. I understand that mistakes are made but the way to keep customers and to be a good business is to take responsibility, own the mistake, and make it right. Had this place done that I would have been all for coming back. But they didn't, they made it seem like it was my fault for patiently waiting after paying and leaving a tip. Not a good look, Sunshine Cafe. Seriously there are too many good breakfast places around here to waist time with this one. I'm not one to write reviews but my wife wanted me to. We've never been to Janet's but a co worker from Costco said it's the best! Not the best circumstances to go but we had just had our 17 year old Sheltie put to sleep a few hours before. Very sad. I talked my wife into getting out to go eat. We needed some Sunshine. We went to Janets! My wife had biscuits and gravy, eggs and bacon. I had a breakfast burrito. Thank you for bringing us happiness! First, let me say the food and the staff are a 5. Great food, great service. However, the service was slow, not because of the ability of the staff, but because of take out orders. I understand that during the pandemic to go food was the thing. But now that it's over, restaurants need to put a higher priority on in restaurant guests rather than phone in orders. We waited for over a half an hour for food while we saw several to go orders leave the restaurant. This place has a very small kitchen and simply doesn't have the capacity to do both in person and to go orders on the weekend. I would guess that if they simply stopped taking to go orders, they would turn tables over faster and make the same amount of money. read more

I just love this place. We live close and have come several times over the years. Best French toast around; it has an eggy taste and is the perfect consistency. They have awesome omelets and really good biscuits and gravy. The gravy has a little spicy kick to it, but not overwhelmingly spicy. Service is always great at this tiny little joint!! THE GREATEST BREAKFAST SPOT IN THE STATE I've moved out of state and every time I'm back in town, this is my first stop. The meals are just incredible. Classic, hot, filling, and the definition of comfort food. Atmosphere is comfy and familiar. It's a small place and fills up quick so plan for a small wait if you're not here close to 8am.
