I have heard very great things about Jansens and took the wife out for our anniversary, the service is great got to talk to Chef Jay a bit he's awesome. I tried the Pangasius not sure if I spell it right, it was very delicious, my wife ordered fettuccine Alfredo with chicken she loved it. We got the tiramisu for dessert and just wow. I highly recommend coming here. it might a little pricey but the quality of the food is delicious and worth it. read more

I hate the term "hidden gem", but this place definitely deserves the praise. Tiramisu is incredible and so is the patty melt.

Philly steak sandwich was fatty thick sliced beef. Criss cut fries needed to be fried longer. Ordered fried cheese curd appetizer and half of them were tiny little droppings. And all menu items were premium $$$. Would have been willing to pay if the food was better read more

They have the best staff! Scotty their bartender is incredible! Charlie their waitress saves their cooks behinds! My grilled haddock was served extremely dry, no green beans they ran out, no clam chowder they ran out, apple sauce for the potato pancakes they ran out... my friend asked for a tenderloin he wanted it rare it was served medium... the meals less than mediocre but the service was top notch! We were looking for a new place to try and could not be happier that we decided on Jansen's. It's a small, mom and pop type place with a friendly, casual atmosphere. We were greeted right away and sat in the dining area. Service was fast and friendly by both the bartender and waitress. To start, we had the combination platter that came with HUGE portions of chicken strips, shrimp, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, cheese curds, and battered mushrooms. Entrees were Perch and Chicken Alfredo - again, large portions for each. The food was amazing. Perch was fresh and lightly breaded with great tartar sauce. The Alfredo was from scratch and 100x better than your typical Alfredo at any chain restaurant. The waitress checked in on us several times, was very observant, and anticipated what we needed before we even needed it! The kitchen manager and cook came to thank us for coming in and made sure everything was to our liking, which was really nice. If you're looking for a comfortable, casual, friendly, and delicious spot to try, this is definitely it! Went back after several year. It used to be good. My wife and I went there because it was listed as a supper club And most were closed on Mondays. both meals were a disappointment. My chopped sirloin steak was overcooked and the baked potatoes we ate were barely warm. I'm assuming they were baked on Friday and reheated. They didn't taste fresh. The salads were made with old lettuce as it was not crisp at all. Her shrimp was barely warm as well. I would love to see this place succeed as the food used to be great, but their best option at this point is to go as a gastro pub. This place is no longer a supper club. Took almost a hour to get a waitress and there was not many people eating everyone that was in the bar was pretty much there for the meat raffle. Tried to order a glass of water and took another 10 mins and being ignored. Rather have the old owners back then the kid that took over, he would rather sit at the table with his buddies and drink. read more

We decided to go to Jansens as we hadn't been there since they re-opened, and had a special for St. Patrick's Day. Overall, the food was okay. The potatoes were great, but they're just boiled potatoes that can be made at home. The carrots were a bit hard and the cabbage was okay, but seemed as if it could've used some spices or something. This could be due to the fact that this meal is only made 1/365 days in the year, but when you go out I guess I somewhat expect the food to be somewhat stellar. I split my meal with someone and even then, we didn't finish it completely. I do have to say though, that they have great desserts. We shared the Pistachio Torte and the White Chocolate Cherry Pie; both were delicious. One final note - we got there right when they opened, and it got kind of tight as people began to trickle in. If you're going for later in the day, I would be cognizant of this fact if people with walkers, etc are accompanying as well as that there could possibly be a wait. read more

Short wait at bar and seated in 30 minutes. Sat for a few minutes and ordered and salads arrived. 7 tables with patrons waiting for food. eat street and others came in and took out "to go orders" totaling 10 out the door. Plates came out for a table or two. Two tables around us patrons arrived and were given salad, food etc. before we had our fish. After ONE HOUR and Fifteen minutes, we walked out leaving $20 on table. Been going here for decades. NOT GOING BACK EVER. All other tables were waiting for food also. If patrons are lesser people for buying drinks and waiting for food, and food going out the door, business plan could change. After 40 years of going here and supporting them, well, gone for good. I have picked up takeout from here a few times and its always delicious. I decided to dine in for lunch a few days ago and it was also a great experience. It was pretty empty inside for the lunch service so it was nice and quiet which I enjoyed. I got the French Dip sandwich which is server open face with some delicious Au Jus sauce. I added mozzarella which made it even more delicious. The fries were nice and crispy. To top the meal off I had the Brandy Bread Pudding which was some of the best bread pudding I have ever had. The bread was nice and hot and the brandy sauce was one of the best things I have ever had on a dessert. All in all it is a great place with great food and very respectable prices. I will make this a normal workweek lunch spot. read more

Purely a strike of luck that I found this place. Leaving the little congregation of aviation enthusiasts gathered in Oshkosh, I happened to follow a group/crew that supports a WWII bomber. These guys were talking about how they wanted a fish fry, and supposedly a fish-fry is something that 'Sconsiners do every Friday. Well, I'm not staying til Friday, so any excuse to eat fried aquatic creatures is good enough for me. Jansen's it is. The place is small, but very personal, and filled to the brim with what I assume are either locals or airplane people. This is a good sign. I sit at the bar where I am immediately greeted with a smiling face and a very slight Yooper accent, which is what I was looking for. A real, Wisconsin bar experience with whatever it is you kooky cheese-heads drink, and something about fried fish. I was pointed in the correct direction, with a few local drinks that were pretty good, but I understand why they aren't national favorites. They can be a little strong for the faint of heart, so take'er easy dont'cha know (I guess this is how it's said???). My little Wisconsin trip commences. The lake perch was crispy, served with hash-brown'esque potatoes, seasoned and cooked well. Coleslaw was the sidekick on this adventure, and let me tell you. Way too much damned food. I'm a big boy, and I used to eat like a hog, but damn if I can't down this plate. I must be slipping as I gain my gray beard these days. Who knew? I am getting old. I met some fellow Oshkoshers (or Oshkoshanians?) and more visiting people that made great conversation for a couple hours along with great service. Don't expect anything too special beyond great food, cool conversation, and pretty damned good service. I am glad I followed those bomber guys. read more

I have to say that first of all I love their food, and most of their servers, especially Tina. I had made reservations the day before since it's the Lenten season and a Friday night. I just wish the waitstaff (Julie) would have minded her own business and given us the table that we made a reservation for and let "her" people wait for their table, that's why we made a RESERVATION. We had been there the week before and loved how easily and smoothly it went because we had made a reservation and I wanted to do that every week, but alas it didn't work that way tonight. read more

First time here on a friend's recommendation. I had the French Dip with potato salad and hubby had the Reuben with fries. Both delicious. Kahlua bread pudding for dessert was amazing--raisins, nuts, cream....yummy. Old-fashioned was Wisconsinably made. Perfect as well. We will be back. read more

It was AWFUL. Our server (women with short blonde hair) Was mean and barely said a word to us the entire time. When we would ask for something she would Skoff at us and not say a word. It had five stars so that's why we decided to go but the food was chard and not good... the service was atrocious. NEVERRRR coming back. read more

I picked up dinner to-go Friday night, as I've often done since the pandemic hit; dinner was delicious. But I was surprised to see that no one in the restaurant, none of the patrons and (more consequential) none of the staff. That has never happened to me in this restaurant before. I understand that one can't eat and wear a mask, but staff should certainly be following that health guideline. Since I have my own health issues, I guess I won't be back until things are back to more normal. Bummer. read more

This is the standardbearer for the Wisconsin bar, and I damn well love it. It doesn't put on airs or try to be something it isn't, and as long as you don't expect it to be something it's not, you'll love it. The waitstaff is more than friendly - it's neighborhood friendly even when you're not in the neighborhood. (Also, their waitstaff show up as the local paper's Volunteer of the Year, or as board members of the local historical society - I learned a ton when I made an offhand comment about whether Oshkosh had, um, houses of ill repute back in the day. Turns out one of the waitresses has done archival research on it. Seriously. How great is that??) And you can't get better drinks for a better price - what they charge for premium is what other places charge for well. The sweet potato fries and fried green beans are great. Great fish fry, more kinds of potatoes than I can count (but at least they're all listed on the menu now!), good fried everything. I've had most of the fish dishes and loved 'em. (Although it's not necessarily your first diet restaurant choice, I found out that low-carb options available - I mentioned I was doing low-carb and was told they can change anything accordingly.) I was pleased with our stop at this bar/restaurant. The bartenders were nicely dressed and very attentive. Our waitress was good and friendly. We ordered steak sandwiches and they were very delicious. Done perfectly. I only give 4/5 stars because our table was right next to the bar area near the slot machines. We were given the option to sit there and we decided to since we were looking at a 20 minute wait for a table and no place at the bar to sit. The table was fine initially.. Until it started getting busier and people waiting for tables ended up basically sitting on our laps. It wasn't anyone's fault really. Just an unfortunate location for a table.
