Spats is truly a place where everybody knows your name. The servers were very friendly, especially Brittney. She was very attentive and engaging. The restaurant lighting is on the dimmer side of things. For me, it made it more relaxing and I instantly went into chill mode. Spats is well worth the visit. Steak Dianne- The tenderloin medallions were seasoned very good. I would've enjoyed this dish even more, if the meat was of a better quality. But the brandy mushroom sauce was out of this world. Spats Burger- Simple burger that consisted of L.T.O, and Bacon. With a 1000 Island sauce. What stood out the most about this burger, was the fact the hamburger was seasoned. Bang Bang Shrimp- really good tasting dish, just the right amount of Thai chili sauce. The side addition of the slaw was the perfect complement

Looking for Friday Fish Fry in Appleton, we tried this place and it was good! They have a lot of fish choices and samplers if you cant pick just one. We tried peach old fashioned, pretzels w/ beer cheese and several kinds of fish. All good and friendly staff.

bartenders are gladiators ! These ladies work their tails off! This was our first time at Spats and the reviews didn't disappoint. We arrived at 5:30 on Friday, ordered a drink at a full bar and Stacy didn't know who we were hit came out from behind the bar to tell us she was watching for a seat for us, ok full bar...and to come and make us feel speciAl...great job Stacy! Now on to Bri, she just had a bay and was also crushing it behind the bar! seriously these ladies are great and work extremely hard! Bri suggested the Walleye which would normally never eat, that lemon sauce was great! the greens were crips and I was very happy with the flavor of the potato pancakes. The perch was also good and lightly breaded . great cole slaw. we will be back !

Whelp, we had to go back to Spats to try some other items. Started out with that amazing bang bang shrimp again! Hubby had the steak Diane which was really really awesome! Those round potatoes were melt in your mouth! The steak was also very good with that very flavorful gravy. I opted for the Bacon cheeseburger with truffle fries. Food seems to be very consistent and amazing! Can't wait to go back again!

Wow! What a friendly place! Our bartenders Olivia (pictured) and Brianna (owner) were so friendly, very welcoming, and attentive to our needs. Brianna and Nick just took over the business mid September 2021 and kept the name "Spats". We went as a family for the Friday night fish fry and I got the crab cake dinner which was delicious! The staff and food over all is great and we will be returning. Highly recommend!

I had dinner at Spats while on a business trip. They are situated in a downtown area with other shops, and have their ownparking lot. The decor inside is dark and fairly dated to me, but the food was very good. When I arrived, I asked if they served their full menu at the bar, and they confirmed that they did. Since I was eating alone, this was perfect. The menu is fairly large with many options. I chose the 7 oz tenderloin which was topped with 2 onion rights, and came with a choice of potato and glazed carrots. You also had the choice of soup or salad. The steak was great - it was cooked perfectly (it's rare that you ask for medium and actually get medium) and the onion rings were fantastic. The baked potato and salad were good, but nothing special. I did not care for the carrots; the sauce made them oddly sweet for me. The staff was nice. The waitress was attentive and made sure I was happy with the meal. The only thing was that the bartender, while friendly, didn't refill my drink (just soda since it was a business trip) unless specifically asked. Overall I would definitely go back again.

Ribeye with red potatoes and asparagus

The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Service was very prompt and we had a nice cozy booth which was great for date night. The food was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I ordered tenderloin in a mushroom sauce which was the most flavorful I have ever tasted. It was served with soft red potatoes and asparagus. My wife had the ribeye which she also said is the best she's had in the Valley. Will definitely go back for more!

"Smashed" potato. Looks like it got fried at some point.

I went to Spats for my birthday last night. It was my first time there. We were the only ones inside and there were a few people outside on their patio. We both ordered different steaks. The appetizers took a while to get (almost 20 min) and we had to share a small dipping sauce, which I thought was weird during these Covid times. We waited for our meals for so long (35 minutes after the appetizers came out) that the bartender asked is if we wanted any boxes and our check, not realizing we didn't get our food. He offered to refill my wife's pop but not mine. The indoor staff disappeared most of the experience and I had to wait over 30 min before I had to ask for a refill. When the meals came, my wife's tenderloin was medium-well (she ordered rare). Mine was done as I requested. Both meals came with a smashed red potato and asparagus; however, my potato was in 3 weird shapes and fried and hers looked like you'd expect. They substituted asparagus with brussel sprouts without mentioning it or asking if it was ok. We didn't receive steak knives and the waitresses didn't ask if we needed anything else when doing off our food (my wife wanted steak sauce). We couldn't ask after that because everyone disappeared again. It wasn't busy. When we left, there was one come on the patio and us. Anyone else have this kind of experience? Sorry it's long-winded but I normally don't have experiences this worrying.

Their Canjun style seafood boil is heavily influenced with a Vietnamese flavors. You pick your favorite seafood items (crawfish, snow crab legs, doungneas crab, shrimp, mussels, or lobster tails) by pounds, pick a spice flavor and then enjoy it. Each order is packed in a big plastic bag (yah, I know). In addition to the seafood, the meal also include corn, potatoes and other items of your choice. We arrived around 4:30 pm on a Wednesday and were seated immediately for the two of us, which was lovely. I started with a filthy martini (one part vodka, one part olive juice)... and they nailed it. Exactly what I asked for. My mom ordered a whiskey old fashioned press, which she enjoyed. For appetizers, we ordered the French onion soup, deep-fried mozzarella, and bacon-wrapped scallops. My mom also had the soup of the day, which was a turkey pot pie soup. Everything was very good overall. One small note on the scallops, and this is important for context: I personally have a strong aversion to seafood, and my mom is usually careful not to order seafood around me because even the smell can make me nauseous. However, scallops are usually an exception, as they don't tend to have a strong seafood odor. In this case, there was no unpleasant smell at all, which I appreciated. That said, the scallops themselves appeared under-seared and very pale, and the bacon was undercooked. Not raw, just soft and not crispy. My mom agreed it could have used a few more minutes. A minor miss, but worth mentioning. For my entrée, I ordered the French dip, which came with carrots... and honestly, the carrots deserve their own moment. They were tiny, perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned, buttery, and balanced with just the right amount of sweet and salty. I love carrots, and these were exceptional. Highly recommend. My mom ordered a Wednesday special trio, which included barbecue ribs, pineapple glazed ham, and a turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. I'll note that the ham itself was delicious, but the pineapple glaze wasn't quite for me personally, as it leaned a bit too tangy for my taste. That said, the turkey was phenomenal. I had a bite, and it was moist, flavorful, and absolutely something I'll come back for. The mashed potatoes and gravy were excellent. I love stuffing, but this one wasn't my favorite; it tasted slightly sour or underdone to me, though that could simply be a preference thing. I'd still order the turkey dinner again without hesitation. Because it was my birthday, our server Jenny surprised me with a slice of chocolate cake, which was incredibly sweet and thoughtful. I was very full... but yes, I ate the cake, and it was delicious. We also split a Pink Squirrel for dessert, which was rich, nostalgic, and the perfect way to end the meal. Service was excellent throughout the evening. Jenny was warm, attentive, and paced everything perfectly. Food came out efficiently without overwhelming the table. The hostess was also welcoming and kind. The dining room was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The lighting was just right, not too dark. We also arrived at a great time, because shortly after our entrées came out, the restaurant quickly filled up. One small suggestion: the website mentions half-price apps and drink discounts, but it isn't clear that those specials are bar-area only. Not a huge issue for us, but clearer wording online would help manage expectations, especially for guests who can't sit at high bar seating. Overall, this was a really special dinner, especially after years of hearing about the Red Ox and never going. More positives than negatives by far. Final rating: 8.5 / 10 We'll absolutely be back... especially for the turkey dinner and those carrots.

We took the 10-minute walk from our Airbnb, and when we arrived, I was shocked to see how big the restaurant was. It was bustling on a Saturday morning, but we were seated quickly. Immediately, I noticed a warm and friendly family-focused atmosphere. Our waitress was kind and quick. She brought us the menus, got our drink order, and gave us time to look through everything. Since this was our first time in Wisconsin, we got an order of cheese curds and a breakfast skillet each. We easily could've shared one breakfast skillet, but they were both so delicious, and I'm glad we got our own. The cheese curds were phenomenal, even though we ordered them as an appetizer. They came out at the same time our meals did. I enjoyed our time at Black Bear and I'm even considering going back again as I write this review. A great spot for newbies in town and definitely worth checking out.
