I had an oil leak and found Japan Auto on yelp. They also do a full diagnostic to make sure there are no other issues. Matt, the owner, called me back to talk to me about the leak and suggested that while they could absolutely fix it, it might be worth checking to see if the issue was still covered under warranty. I called the dealership and to my surprise found that it was! I was referred to Japan Auto Care after going to Marco's Muffler shop in Sacramento. I called JAC and explained what problems I was experiencing (I wasn't able to pass smog and didn't know why). After getting a diagnostic and quote from them, my boyfriend and I decided to go ahead and let them fix the car. I am not a car person, so I was skeptical from the very beginning; I know that some mechanics may take advantage of people who aren't very knowledgeable about cars. I was so pleased when they explained things in such plain English! They were very transparent about what the issues were, which ones were more urgent and what was most important necessary to get my car running in good shape and able to pass smog. They did an absolutely amazing job explaining what the car parts did and how they were supposed to function. Taking the time to do this made me feel so comfortable with them and confident that I was at the right place. My boyfriend and I were so pleased with our experience, we decided to have them fix other issues with the car. My Toyota had a pretty severe oil leak and Japan Auto Car did a fantastic job with a quick turn around time fixing not only that, but a few other issues as well. They had my car fixed and back on the road within 1.5 days! Not only that, they were clear and upfront about costs and I never felt like I was being pushed to do repairs I didn't need. They were very transparent about the work they recommended and by going through the possible repairs to do we realized that replacing the water pump was not needed, as that had been done 2 years prior. I am going to have to give Japan Auto Care about 7 stars. Here is my super interesting story about it, where I butcher car terminology and use caps to make things sound more important. SCENARIO: The AC on my car stopped working most of the time. It is over 100 degrees in Folsom these days and I have a family and they don't taste good cooked. The AC would sometimes come on after about 30 or so minutes of driving. If it turned on, which was never a guarantee, it would usually continue to turn on for the next few hours even if I turned my car off and on. Most of the time it did not turn on. OUR WRONG SOLUTION: We figured it was low on freon. I don't know anything about freon, but that sounded like a smart diagnosis and a few friends and the guy at O'Reilly's Auto Parts agreed. We bought freon and tried to fill it, but didn't know what we were doing, so it didn't work. I YouTubed it a few days later and tried to fill it again and it didn't work. Then some other day I emptied the can into it and it didn't work. I called a few mechanics that all agreed it was a leak, and recommended recharging the freon with a dye so we could track the leak. That would be about $250. NEXT PARAGRAPHS: Since it is a Japanese car, only a few places recharge freon. I brought it to Japan Auto Care. The guy who owns it, named Jack probably because I see his name in all these other reviews, came to look at the car. At the time I had been driving for about 45 minutes, and the AC came on. He tested the temperature of the AC, looked at the car with me, had me describe the problem, and eventually said it was probably not a freon problem and he did not want me to waste my money. He also said that unfortunately, since the AC was working, there is no way to test specifically what is wrong with it. Unsatisfied with these limitations, he then spent the next 45 minutes trying to research what could be wrong with it, as the symptoms I described made no sense for this type of car. He had never heard of a Mazda that had intermittent and inconsistent AC before. He researched TSBs, found none. He went to forums, found none. He started looking up the way that they design the Mazda AC, and found nothing. He then started looking through other Japanese car forums for similar problems. It was like an episode of House except without the manufactured tension. Finally, he had an idea. Sometimes, on Hondas, the relay system starts to degrade. He's never seen or heard of that happening on a Mazda before, but if I was willing, he'd order a $50 part and just pop in it there and see if that worked. $50 sounded a lot better than all of the other AC repair costs so I agreed. OBVIOUS OUTCOME BASED ON THIS REVIEW SETUP: Came back. He popped it in there in a few seconds, and it turned on right away and has worked perfectly since. It's only been two days, and there is a chance it was coincidence since the AC can come on on occasion, but even if it is the approach he use was excellent. Just outstanding customer service and support, and an approach to figuring out the problem that I doubt most other car repair owners would provide. If you're reading this far, Flint still doesn't have clean water and much of Puerto Rico still is without power. I'll come back here again for sure if anything is wrong with my car. read more

I don't know a lot about cars but I have been to many car shops and it's refreshing when you don't feel like you're getting hustled about other "problems" with your car, they diagnosed my car issues and explained clearly to me what was going on. Michelle was a dream to work with. My Subaru was on the fritz with the alternator last night. A family member mentioned Japan Auto but wasn't sure if they were any good. I checked the Yelp and Google reviews and though not a ton of reviews, they were mostly very good. In the AM, a day before Thanksgiving, I limped my car there but it broke down completely 1/4 mile from the shop. I made it to the shop, and Michelle took the initiative right away, to take my keys, get a flat bed tow so I could leave and get work done. Gathered the symptoms from me then she said she'd call as soon as they had a diagnostic and let me know what's up. Michelle called a couple hours later with the good news that they found the issue, had contacted the dealership to get the part, had it delivered and the car would be done shortly. On top of that, it she let me know the tow was going to be free and the diagnostic would be free. What could have taken days (probably 5 given the holidays) requiring a rental car to get back to the Bay Area, and much more money, turned out to be a breeze. I called in and explained what was going on with my car since i had a check engine light come on. They told me to go to the dealership and get a part ( gas cap ) and to come in to reset the code which they would do for free for me, before running a smoke test which cost upwards $190+. Since i have the tool that can read car codes i was able to make the replacement myself. Check engine light went off and i never had to come in. These Guys are Trustworthy, helpful and most important HONEST!!!! I will be a future customer when my car is acting funny again! read more

Took my Nissan Rogue there after an accident left the engine blown.
