I waited a few days before getting her checked out, and now I wish I had visited Japanese Auto Tech sooner. Within just one day, Mr. Park at Japanese Auto Tech had her fixed up and even took care of an oil change. When it comes to car troubles, I usually dread the thought of spending a fortune to get things fixed, especially since my car is 15 years old. I'm always nervous that it's the end of the road for her and I'll need to start making monthly payments on a new one. But Mr. Park completely eased those fears. He got my car back in shape quickly and at a super affordable price. Rude!!!!!! I call the guys shop he tells be to come in for an oil change the next day at 9 am. Perfect. I get there the next day at 9:11am. The owner and his workers are sitting there eating breakfast. I walk in and I say good morning. I'm here for an oil change. The owner looks at me confused like why am I here? Mumbling something at me that I cannot understand and refuses to stand up and even look at what kind of car I have. Sir do you want this Buisness? I have brought my car to him before and my previous encounter was also not a pleasant one. I was not looking forward to coming back and now I will definitely not be back. He did good work, but he was extremely rude with me and I did not appreciate that especially with all the money I paid him the first time. I was not going to make that mistake a second time so I will not be spending my money at this man's shop. I don't care how good he is with cars. I will be spending my money elsewhere where it is appreciated! Honest, great communication, efficient and fair price! My only regret is not discovering this place sooner! I took my Acura to so many shops, even the dealership and all of them charged a hefty amount a didn't do a thing! I almost thought that I'd have to just buy a new car. I've been looking for a mechanic to fix my 240sx for a long time 6 months or more. This was my grandfather's car so i knew it was well taken care of, but no mechanics wanted to work on it? Mechanics have become very lazy and really don't want to work on cars that don't have computers. They basically lack the skill, knowledge and patience of a true Mechanic. My family has been going to Japanese Auto Tech for 20+ years. We are a family of 5 women with 4 Lexus, 2 Mercedes and a Toyota between us. We trust Mr. Park with the care and maintenance of all 12 cars. He has high integrity and is fairly priced. I even purchased a Toyota Corolla (now belonging to my neice) from him years ago that is 24 years old and still running safely and soundly. Once the work day begins, Caveats: (1) Mr. Park gets busy and is not always available by phone, but it s easy to just drive in to make inquiries. (2) No one is good for everyone. Mr. Park is definitely a love him or hate kind of guy. In my family we love him! He is (much) older then he looks and there's a language barrier if you're American English speaking. It took me a long time to decide to write this negative review because this place is obviously a small family run shop, but I have to give my honest feedback. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had with an auto shop or mechanic. I took my vehicle here a total of 2 times, had no work done on it, wasted my time, wasted the owners time, basically wasted everyone's time. First visit was late 2021 when my car's Check Engine light came up and the gears started to change abruptly- the owner ran diagnostics on the spot and determined the issue, but told me to drive my car back home since he didn't have the space or time to work on it at the moment, but would call me, likely within a week. I explained that the car was scary to drive with its current problems, but he assured me it would be fine. One weeks rolls by and I hear nothing so I call back, and he says hes still busy, but maybe the following week. Another week rolls by, again I hear nothing, call again to follow up, and he says to drop the car off the following week. I drop it off, and that same afternoon am called by the owner and asked to pick up the car AGAIN, because he didnt have the right parts ordered yet, and he didnt have any space in his shop! By this time I am a little frustrated, as I've already dropped off the car at his shop twice by now, taken time off work to do so, spent money on Ubers, etc. After trying to discuss and figure out why he even had me drop off the car for the 2nd time in the first place, I'm still confused other than he had to run further diagnostics and confirm exactly which parts needed to be ordered? Either way, it was beyond inconvenient, and again his only guidance was he would call me when the parts were ready. Well, fast forward 5 months, and multiple calls from myself to ask about parts and timing, he still doesn't have the part, has never once called me back to say when he would get the part, and I eventually just towed my car to the closest dealership. The dealership literally fixed the issue the following day, at roughly the same price quoted by this shop. Super convenient, and at the same price! To this day, I'm still unclear how this shop manages to attract any new customers. I dont even know if he even ordered my part? Not sure why anyone would ever want to deal with this unprofessionalism and inconvenience when it isnt even cheaper than the local dealership. read more

You do have to be firm with Mr. Park and make sure you give him clear direction as to how you want him to proceed with your car. Called them,spoke to Jack...Said no problem,bring my 98 Explorer in for a smog before I can sell it to the state.(CAP)...He said they might buy it for a fair price right now!!!!! Drove there,and asked for Jack!!!! No Jack,very unfriendly Japanese man said cant smog it.... They are a Star station and are required to test it,if the business is open and running! I've been going to Mr. Park for over 17 years, & felt need to write an opposing view when I came upon the negative review by B S when looking for the phone number after my cell died. Like B S, as a single woman, finding a skilled mechanic you can trust to perform what is needed, not over charge, or make matters worse intentionally or unintentionally; is why I've continued to be a loyal customer. I now live 100 miles away in Hemet, & will only allow local mechanics to change my oil, as I cannot rely or trust them to work on any part of my car's engine or sensitive systems. Also, because Mr. Park replaces factory parts in your car, at a greatly reduced price, I have peace of mind. My 96' Acura RL, purchased with 88,000 miles in 2005, runs great, as did my Honda & Nissan before...which was all serviced & maintained well into 238,000 miles. As a ASCE master mechanic, trained in Japan, he knows his stuff, & is a Christian man of integrity, & provides not only the service needed, but inspects everything as a whole, & like B S stated, adjusts & adds many small services not billed, all of which is felt when you pickup & drive your car...it definitely shows the extra care long-term as well. As for pricing, he traditionally tells you up front what the price is for the expected service, & calls if there is a problem or change. Not sure, who dropped the ball in B S's case, or who Mr. Lee is (noone there by that name); but hope this helps you understand why Mr. Park's shop, Japanese Auto Tech has so many loyal, long-time customers. read more

My coworkers SWORE by this place.... I dropped off my car to ask him to check to see what needed to be done at a 75K check up. I specifically told him to call me to tell me what he was going to do and to tell me the price. Two hours later, he called to say that he changed the oil and changed the transmission fluid. I said, "What? You were supposed to call me before doing anything." He said, "Well, this is not expensive." I said, "So how much is it?" He said, "$30 for the oil change and $140 for the transmission fluid change." WHAT??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I said, "$140 for the transmission fluid?!!! Why are you charging that much?!" He said, "Well I had to change the gasket too." HEY, DUMBASS, YOU *ALWAYS* CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION GASKET WHEN YOU CHANGE THE FLUID! I responded saying, "Of course, you should change the gasket, but why is it so much? I can get that service for under $100 at many other places and the place I usually get my oil change is $22 and I get a free car wash." At that point, he started double talking about how much he pays for things saying that he topped off a bunch of my other fluids for free and again said he changed the gasket for free. WHAT A BUNCH OF BS! Those are standard things that are done when you get an oil change and a transmission fluid change. This guy clearly thinks women are bimbos who don't know about car maintenance. I told him that I was going to leave him an awful review on Yelp, as he didn't call me before completing the service and asked him when my car would be ready. He said it was ready now and I could come over anytime before 5pm to pick it up. I went over at about 2pm. HE HAD LEFT AND TAKEN MY CAR KEYS WITH HIM! I had walked there by myself (in INGLEWOOD) from where I work only to be told by his technician that I would have to walk back to work and then come back when Mr. Lee returned an hour later. I was pissed off. When I returned, Mr. Lee told me that he would only charge me $140 for the full service, if I paid by check. Fine. That price is agreeable, but he's lucky I happened to have my checkbook with me. I mean honestly, how many people in LA carry their checkbooks with them everyday? He tried to make small talk with me as I was leaving because he probably realized he was going to lose an entire company's business. I quickly exited, as anyone who tries to overcharge me is not on my friendly conversation list. All in all, if you go there, stay with your car and tell Mr. Lee you're not letting his tech do any work until you get a quote. Otherwise, he'll try to take you for a ride. Every time when I go there. They did good service as much as they can. One day, my car had shaked a lot, so I visited nearby my home, they said I have to change the engine. It should be spend a lot of money. You better lokong for new car. But i didn't have enough money. I tried to another repair shop. I heard that japanese autu shop is good. I towed to there. The Japanese Auto Technician has serviced my two Toyata Camrys and one Honda Accord for over 18 years. He also services my son's Malilbu (he lives in San Diego). I have always found him to be fast, accurate, and honest. On two occasions I went to other shops for a small oil leak, and a brake issue. The shop in Hawthorne quoted me $400. for the oil leak, so I went to Mr. Kim: $40.00 later there was no issue, it was repaired and the oil mess on the engine was cleaned up. For the brake problem, one shop quoted me $250.00; Mr. Kim was $125.00. Quite a difference. I went to the other shops just to see what they would charge, an it was an eye opener. We have never had to return a vehicle for a poor or incomplete job. I implicitly trust Mr. Kim. read more
