    curry chicken katsu

The curry katsu was cooked well, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I'd probably pass on the gyu katsu next time since I don't really get the hype. The panko breading isn't as crispy because you have to finish cooking the meat on the hot skillet, but it was still good, just not something I'd order again personally. The service was good, and there's a decent amount of seating inside. I also appreciated that when I packed up my leftovers to go, they gave me a fresh container of katsu sauce. It was a small detail, but a thoughtful touch.

Katsumura is a fantastic restaurant and hang-out spot. I came here with a large party for a late weekend dinner, where their happy hour runs from 9pm to closing. The server happily and quickly arranged our table. From the happy hour appetizer menu, I had the gyoza and French fries - there were solid and great for sharing. For my main, I had the katsu + udon for around $26 which turned to be great value. The portion was large. The katsu plate came with rice, cabbage, seaweed salad, macaroni salad, and sauce. The udon had a flavorful broth enhanced by what I believe is chrysanthemum greens. Our server was top notch - super attentive, kind, and went above and beyond. The attention to detail is commendable. Overall, I had a great dinning experience. I'd highly recommend others to come try out their delicious food as well.

Delicious! Parking is tough here during dinner but it's well worth it. The food here is very good. We got the yakiniku for two and Katsu with and without curry. They helped cook our food here and the refills of sides are free. We will be back again. Happy Yelping!

We came in excited to try Katsumura and left feeling a little mixed. The katsus were a bit underwhelming overall. We ordered the chicken katsu and pork katsu with curry, and while they were decent, neither felt especially memorable. The curry in particular tasted pretty standard--similar to what you could pick up at the grocery store. We also tried the udon soup. The broth had really nice umami and good flavor, but unfortunately the noodles were overcooked and a little mushy. The highlight for us was definitely the gyukatsu--that dish is what brought this up to 3 stars. The soy dipping sauce paired with the wasabi was heavenly and really elevated the meal. Service was also wonderful. The staff was attentive, friendly, and quick to help with anything we needed, which we really appreciated.

The food was pretty good! Got the soba, chicken katsu, and the cheese katsu. I was expecting the cheese katsu to have some more meat in it, but it was a pretty thin layer, so a bit too cheesy for me, but the food in general was enjoyable. The service was quick and friendly too. There are a lot of tables available and is decorated nicely. It's located in a plaza with a good amount of parking, but it does get busy on weekends.

Let me start by saying the food is consistently good, but the service on the other hand is consistently bad. I've been going to Katsumura since before they had their grand opening. They've definitely gained popularity since opening, which I think is great for the business. The food is what brings people back for sure, as it is consistent and good. The service seems to be a hit or miss... usually miss... On some days they're super quick with service, but more times than not, I find myself waiting with my party for a server to even notice us (whether we're ready to order, have a question, or ready to pay). There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason - sometimes they'll walk right by us without even looking our way. When this happens I've noticed that there are other people in the same situation - so maybe we're just coming on a bad day? I've also had multiple times where my katsu didn't come with rice and/or sauce, which is weird that it happens pretty often. The ambiance is ok. The restaurant feels congested and tight, like the spacing between tables could be better. It also shares a wall with Gerry's Grill, so if they're having karaoke it overpowers the volume in Katsumura so you can't even hear your own thoughts. I want to recommend this place because the food is "pretty good," I just struggle with the service. It shouldn't be so hard to get someone's attention. The service is the main reason I don't come back as often.

Katsu chicken with a side of mushroom gravy. Can't forget the beer on tap and sake.

I will mention that I am a regular here, but not for no reason. They have the best katsu chicken I've ever tried, tried many places too. They have the batter down for the katsu. Service is always excellent as well and staff does get busy, but they are very friendly. As far as the ambiance in the place it's really relaxed. Gives you an Izakaya type feel. Great happy hour deals, shareable plates of food, the works. I recommend this spot to anyone who wants to try some katsu. Pro tip: katsu chicken with a side of mushroom gravy you wok regret it.

Coming here was a spur of the moment decision and totally worth it! I had been wanting to come here for a while with my sister and today was the day Linda! My other sister joined so we were three lovely ladies total. There was no wait, we walked in and we're promptly greeted and asked how big was our party. BAM! Got seated immediately. We sat down like 2 minutes before Happy Hour ended and we were approached by the guy taking the orders, and of course I was all hurried like telling him what we wanted from the HH menu but he was all; "Don't you worry momma, take your time and you'll still get the happy hour special!"(not those exact words, but you get what I'm sayin) And we sure did, we got the gyoza, edamame, and shumai. And one of my sisters ordered a House Draft beer. We were actually ready to put in our whole order so we did. While we waited, we were brought water and paper cups, not the fanciest, but gets the job done. I only took pictures of the food and menus, but the inside gives off this small-katsu-shop-in-Japan feel. Very cool. It definitely does not give off like it's trying too hard; just kinda says "This is me, take me as what I am." And we totally did. The appetizers started arriving shortly after the water and we went to work. Gyoza- perfectly crisp, filled generously and well seasoned meat inside. Came with a soy sauce based sauce and spicy Mayo. We all enjoyed both dipping sauces. Next up: edamame. These were basic. Just steamed and heavily salted. Not with it for me cause it was nothing special. But I did end up seeing. Spicy edamame on the menu after we had already finished our food so that might be worth a try. And before the shumai was able to come to our table, the main course arrived. #1- and my favorite- House Special Gyu Katsu + curry. This is a whole experience, my friend. They bring out the breaded ribeye, raw and sliced. With it, a stone and fire grill. And a split condiments dish with course salt and a soy dipping sauce. You add the sliced meat on the hot grill, let it get a good sear, sprinkle a little of the course salt and a quick dip in the sauce and put the whole piece straight into your mouth hole. Trust. It is ....eye-closing delicious. #2 - Chicken Katsu curry. You get the same sides as the Gyu Katsu, minus the wasabi. There's white rice, seaweed salad, macaroni salad, and shredded cabbage. The chicken it cooked to perfection, tender and moist. The breading well done, staying on the chicken through the dipping and eating process. Along with your decided Katsu meat, if curry chosen, you get a boat of curry. The curry was good, no modification Can be dove really, but in my opinion not necessary. I would drink it if it wasn't seen as obnoxiously disgusting. Anyway, if you're looking to get more custom Japanese curry, try Coco Ichibanya. Look it up. Overall, everything came out at a very timely manner, fresh and delicious. It is also such a fun and engaging food-sperience!

My friend and I enjoyed this katsu spot in the Artesia area! Walking-in, I really liked the Japanese-inspired décor. The theming was on point. My friend and I shared 2 dishes: - Gyu Katsu: This was delicious and among some of the best gyu katsu I've had thus far. This was mainly for the meat which was so juicy and tender. Paired with the wasabi, salt, and dipping sauce, it was very tasty. I do think the breading exterior could be better and crispier though, but it was still good nonetheless. - Sweet Potato Katsu: We ordered this because it was unique. I liked how the creamy sweet potato didn't overpower the katsu. However, I wish there was more cheesiness. I would opt for the cheese katsu next time, but this wasn't a bad try. We ordered the gyu katsu with curry and that was a good choice. While I would've liked a thicker curry, it was still flavorful and it was great dipping the gyu katsu and sweet potato katsu in. Compared to similar spots in LA, the pricing here was such a great value for what we got which came out to be around $25 per person. While the décor was nice, I do think the cleanliness of this spot could be improved. The men's bathroom was pretty dirty and my wooden placemat had potato from a previous party smeared on which wasn't great since I accidentally touched it. Overall, this is a solid spot for katsu which I would recommend to anyone in the area to try.

This place is great. Iv been here a few times and I usually order my go to which is the gyu katsu. That is one of my favorite dishes there. Service: Service is great! The few times iv been there, service was always good and I think the owner or manager is usually there as well. Alta smiling and always greeting everyone. It makes us feel welcome. I have brought my friends here and they would say the service is good and friendly! Food: As I said, the gyu katsu is my favorite there. I love the little grill they provide you to cook your meat. Meat is nice and tender and flavorful. It comes with a side of wasabi, seaweed salad, white rice, macaroni and another type of salad. It also comes with a side of sauce and salt. I love dipping my meet in the salt it comes with! I have tried their miso soup as well and I think it pairs with this meal very well! Ambiance: Very warm, aesthetic feeling. Feels like I am in Japan! Small but cute inside. Overall I give this place 4 stars! I would love a little extra meat on my gyukatsu. I'm usually craving more of it after finishing my meal.

came on a saturday afternoon and it wasn't busy. very spacious and lots of seating. we were seated right away and service was excellent. katsu+udon and the meat were delicious. very flavorful and very crunchy. overall, a great experience and would come back again.

We came in on Sunday lunchtime & we're seated immediately! We ordered the ribeye gyukatsu that you cook yourself on the little grill & the lunch combo chicken katsu. The lunch combo is very much work it! The food is super tasty and we also ordered some curry on the side that is to die for!

My brother had been wanting to come here for the longest time, and since it was his pick, I couldn't go without him. Eventually, our schedules lined up and we finally made it. The place isn't very big, so I highly recommend making a reservation if you plan to visit. It can fill up quickly, and you might not get a table if it's fully booked. I actually meant to make a reservation but forgot, and we decided to walk in. We were almost turned away, but luckily, a party canceled their reservation, and we were able to get seated. Not sure if it was just this day that was super busy, or if it is always busy, but I do recommend a reservation if you can. We ordered a few items: the curry gyu katsu, the Wang donkatsu, two pork curry katsu, a chicken curry katsu, and a spicy beef tripe soup. The katsus were all delicious. They came out super crispy and hot, and they weren't dry at all, just perfectly juicy inside. The gyu katsu is cooked to your liking on a hot stone, so you really can't go wrong with that. It also comes with a few dipping sauces, so you can really customize and change up the flavor to your liking. Personally, the curry that came with the Wang wasn't my favorite. It tasted a little off to me. almost too much like ketchup. But my sibling really enjoyed it, so to each their own. Overall, everything was delicious. The portions were generous for most dishes (the gyu katsu portion was a bit smaller), but definitely worth the price. Parking can also be a bit of a challenge since it's located in a very busy plaza. You may have trouble finding a spot unless you go during off-peak hours.

The ramen came a little bit afterwards - the broth was ok, it didn't feel rich enough with pork flavor and also was a little salty. The noodles were just ok also. I think the best part was the egg and chashu. The egg was well made and tasty, while the chashu is a bit more on the meaty side vs fatty side (which I prefer). They do have other things like curry that look pretty good, perhaps that would be the order if I end up here again.

Since I knew we would be drinking, I called the restaurant ahead of time to ask if she could sit with us since she wouldn't be drinking. They said no. If we were drinking, she couldn't be there. I thought it was unfortunate, but I told my sister she couldn't come to dinner with us. But what was really annoying is that after we ordered alcohol, our server didn't card us. We told a server that we saw a cockroach, but she just stared at us blankly and walked away without doing anything. After that, we had serious issues about the perceived cleanliness of the restaurant and left immediately.  I'm disappointed. In the end, I didn't get the warm and fuzzy nostalgic feeling I was yearning for. I think there were several interactions with the workers that they could have handled better. I cleared my little side quest, so I don't think I have a reason to ever return.
