I wanted to like this place but I do not. My brother and I had a lackluster experience to put it mildly. He knows that I love Indian food so this was to be a special treat for my birthday. We had a reservation and were told by the host on arrival that we were in luck because he had a great table for us. We were left standing at the front for several minutes. It got to the point where it became uncomfortable and my brother wondered if the host forgot about us or left! Two other parties came in behind us. We were all left standing there - awkwardly. There were servers (and perhaps the manager) walking around and someone behind the bar but nobody looked at or said anything to any of us until the host returned and dealt with someone picking up carry out. He then seated us at our "great table." (?) We ordered two Taj Mahals (bottled beer) and appetizers right away. The waitress asked to see IDs. That hasn't happened to either of us in a very long time, but nbd, we were amused. I mentioned that she should make note of my birth date to which she replied "Oh, okay, happy birthday." I certainly wasn't asking for special treatment. I only said something because I was carded. We waited almost 30 minutes for those two bottles of beer. When the samosas came out without the usual sauces and no plates, I asked about those things and our drinks and was told: "they're coming." The beer did eventually arrive, just before our entrees which were plunked down by another waitress. No rice and no dinner plates. I asked about that and got the same answer: "They're coming." Then our naan, which was ordered with the appetizers was delivered by a bus person. I asked him if we could have dinner plates and he looked surprised and apologized, then ran to get them for us. The best service we got all night! Then the rice arrived. The food was definitely good, but I wouldn't say great. Service and execution were plain bad. Throughout our dinner, I saw two other diners being served a piece of cake and wished a happy birthday by the man I assumed to be the aforementioned manager. Again, I wasn't looking for special treatment, but when our waitress asked if we wanted to order dessert, I was miffed. We declined and asked for the check. After that, she did bring us two fried dough balls in a honey sauce and said "hbd" which was nice. But not enough to warrant a return visit. It seems like this restaurant is trying to be something special but with us, they missed the mark badly. read more

Had an unforgettable dinner at Jashan! The service here is on another level. We felt welcomed from the start, and the staff's attention to detail made the night. Akki, the owner, is so genuinely warm--he even sent out his favorite dessert for us to try, which was a cardamom brownie with chai ice cream made in-house. It was insanely good and such a perfect end to the meal! We started with the samosa chaat and lamb birria tacos. The chaat had the perfect balance of crunch and tanginess, and the tacos were so flavorful, with tender lamb and spices that hit just right. For the main courses, we tried the steak (cooked to absolute perfection), lamb chops that came with two delicious sides, and the chicken korma, which was creamy and spiced just right. Each dish was incredible in its own way, and the portions were perfect for sharing. The bartender was another highlight. Not only did she nail our first round--the Old Fashioned Dhua Dhua had that ideal smoky twist, and the mango margarita was refreshing with a unique kick--but she also crafted custom drinks for us on the second round that weren't even on the menu, definitely try their espresso martini! It was clear she knew her stuff and took pride in getting everything just right. Jashan is easily one of the best dining experiences I've had in Nashville. I'd love to say the 4.9 Yelp rating is accurate, but perhaps taking a read through my experience is worth a few minutes, before you rush to Jashan, expecting a phenomenal dinner. $50 poorer and one legendary case of food poisoning later, I cannot say that I will be planning my return to Jashan any time soon. It's disappointing to say, as I was incredibly excited when they opened the restaurant only two blocks from my home earlier this year. But after my most recent experience, it seems that it may be a ticking time bomb. Two nights ago, I had a reservation at Jashan for 7:15p. Upon entering at 7:10p, there were 10 other people waiting at the host stand with no host in sight. Any time a server or the man who appeared to be the manager, would walk by us, they avoided eye contact for dear life. Ten minutes passed and not a single person acknowledged any of us standing there. (You'd find a more professional welcome at TGI Friday's.) Eventually, I asked one of the servers if anyone had plans on helping us. She looked at me like four-headed dragon, no words to say. But it led to the manager coming over and getting us sat at our table a few minutes later. After sitting down, our waiter, who seemed scared for his life, greeted us by first saying how busy they were and things might take a little while. Had I known what was on the horizon, I would have asked what "a little while" really meant. (It's important to note, this is not the world's largest restaurant. A busy Friday can be stressful, but by no means should it be completely unmanageable for your kitchen or floor staff. Otherwise, you're in the wrong business.) It was 20 minutes before he even took our appetizer order, of which we only ordered two. Now comes the fun part. We waited over an HOUR to receive them, one of which was cold. All the while, we looked on as chaos spiraled throughout the restaurant; customers were waiting endlessly for their food, not one table received all of their meals at the same time, and the whole staff seemed like they had never had a day of training in their life. Perhaps one of the strangest sights was the manager constantly running from back to front with bag after bag of takeout... it appeared as though they were prioritizing Uber Eats orders over the customers who were sitting right in the very restaurant. This was later confirmed by our server. (What restaurant puts to-go orders ahead of tip-paying customers?!) A few minutes before our starters arrived, our waiter took our main course order. We hesitated to order at all, since it was now well past 8:30pm, and we hadn't even received our apps, but we put the order in for two dishes and a side of naan. Not shockingly, the main courses did not com to the table until 9:50pm. By the time we were finished, we had spent over THREE HOURS in the restaurant for only four dishes. As the parade of to-go bags continued, I realized we weren't alone in our experience. Every table around us spent more time waiting than eating. And while the food was fine, it should never take 3 hours for a simple dinner service. Our waiter was apologetic, but nothing was done or offered on behalf of the management. Taking $50-100/pp for a sub-par dining experience with no effort to balance out the bad parts is bad business and doesn't speak much to the professionalism of Jashan. The real kicker came as we left -- exhausted, by the way, from the marathon of waiting all night. The manager asked, "how was everything?" I replied, "the food was good, but wow--it sure took forever." He then said, "was everything hot?" I said, "yes, for the most part." "Well, that's all that matters." I was speechless. No apology, no effort to make the obvious wrong right. If "hot" is the standard you're setting for your restaurant, you've got a problem on your hands. You can get "hot" at McDonald's for $3.99, and you'll have it in 120 seconds. I walked out full, but totally dissatisfied. The only thing worse than the experience in the restaurant was what followed. The food poisoning. 36 hours of intense nausea and d*arrhea. Perhaps that was the complimentary gift from the management. Save yourself the time and the money and skip Jashan. With the success of Sindoore, I would have expected it to be a well-oiled machine after 6 months, but it seems all of the parts have already rusted. read more

The service was absolutely terrible. We had 6:30 reservations for a party of 8. It took over half an hour to take a drink order. Almost an hour to take the appetizer order. We had to ask for more water over and over. No one ever poured our wine for us. The food was ok, but service is so bad I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

My husband and I tried Jashan last night for the first time & safe to say we've found our new go to spot for Indian food. We ordered take out but will definitely be dining in sometime soon. I love this place and I mean absolutely love this place. I usually know right away, like within a bite or two, whether I'm in love with a spot and this one was one of those one biters and I was sold. I've only ever gotten their takeout, which I've gotten twice so I can really only judge the food. But the inside of the restaurant looks quite nice and sleek and modern and the staff I did interact with was also very nice. I'll be back to sit down and eat soon enough. The food is next level. It's somehow both unique, meaning the curries have some spices in there that you know you haven't had at other Indian restaurants, but also it manages to have this quality of broad appeal. I've had curries at other Indian restaurants that I personally like but I know if I brought some family members to those restaurants they wouldn't feel the same because it has such a specific quality or combination of spices that they'd either love it or hate it. Jashan is different. I think this is the spot you bring your guests to when you 100 percent need a spot that won't disappoint and will be able to please everyone. I just cannot imagine a scenario where someone dislikes the food at Jashan. As I have done in many of my reviews, I also have to point out the value at this place. I will keep writing it until my fingers fall off because it's true: If a restaurant offers good food and provides good value where the customer feels they are getting their money's worth, that restaurant will be in business for a long time. The value at Jashan is tremendous. Like I mentioned I've only had take out, but the portion is so generous. Good food and good value, like I've mentioned in many of my reviews in the past, equals repeat customers, not just a one time visit. I live in Franklin and I've driven twice already in two months to get food from Jashan and I'll be back many more times in the future. Jashan is my new favorite Indian restaurant. I'm not even hesitant to say it. I had previously lived in Queens, NY for over 30 years, in a neighborhood that is about 20 mins from Jackson Heights, which is one of the biggest, if not the biggest Indian communities in the United States. Still, I believe Nashville and surrounding areas have the best Indian food in the country, and it's thanks to places like Jashan. read more

First restaurant I would actually give 5 stars. An Indian restaurant with steak and lobster? Yep, cooked to perfection and presentation was off the charts. Even pictures don't give justice. Steak was mouthwatering and cooked medium. Lobster was moist and fresh. This was set on a bed of potatoes and a neutral sauce and to my amazement, worked out well. Had shrimp tacos that had a bite to them with a neutral sauce. I will definitely get those again...and topped all that with an Chi-T ice cream on a warm brownie for desert. Wife had some sort of strawberry desert that was excellent. She had a curry chicken and rice that made the night - she is a picky eater and didn't have any complaints. Staff was friendly and would highly recommend. If you have a bad time here....you just can't be happy...lol Definitely a top pick. read more

Jashan is a lovely restaurant with an excellent menu to accompany the beautiful decor. The food is excellent with plenty of veggie options as well as meat without an overwhelmingly large list to sift through. The appetizers are tasteful and pay homage to many traditional Indian dishes while elevating the experience from start to finish. They also provide non alcoholic options for every cocktail on their menu at no additional charge. In an ever growing city where parking is overtaken by "park happy" and "metropolis," it's a breath of fresh air to arrive to a lot of available spaces for free! read more

I have been waiting for this restaurant to open for months now. My husband and I went on a whim a few evenings ago to give it a try. From the moment we walked in everything was impeccable. The atmosphere was beautiful. The service was extremely attentive, and the food was outstanding! We ordered the following: Appetizers: Bao steamed bao with spiced potato (I loved this, but I felt like the bun was store-bought -or old-and I'm not sure why there was a pickle on it. I have definitely had my share of pickles in my lifetime and probably eaten a jar in one sitting before but I did not like the pickle on this dish.) I probably wouldn't order it again, but I would definitely eat it if someone else did. Flight of Pani Puri spiced potato filled semolina puffs with a trio of flavors (sweet - sour - mint) These were amazing! Anytime I've had them before the restaurant has always puts the liquid in and they're soggy by the time you eat them, and these were absolutely utter perfection! Nice, and Crisp and I loved the presentation as well as the taste. Tikka masala - Chicken This was fantastic, but I really think that they served me butter chicken instead of chicken tikka masala. During a future visit, I'm going to order the butter chicken and the chicken tikka masala and compare. I would definitely order this again, but not the next time I go. Vindaloo Shrimp Hands-down this was the absolute best vindaloo I have ever put in my mouth. I didn't even order it -my husband did, but it was incredible. Garlic naan Phenomenal- probably the best garlic naan I've had in Nashville. Basmati rice - very nice and fluffy. Pulao: turmeric infused peas and golden raisin This was amazing. I almost thought that maybe it had saffron in it but who knows ‍ Our server was Duncan and he was very knowledgeable. I think that the owner was there, and he definitely stopped by the table to check on things. I think that the manager was on site as well. He did not introduce himself. Which is totally fine. Will be back. There's plenty of parking which is nice. I'm glad that there's finally another good restaurant back in the building. It's been a long time. The food is amazing, my favorites are the Steak, the street corn, and Birria tacos! This was totally different for an Indian restaurant but worked so well with Indian seasoning. The service was also great! They asked about dietary restrictions for our table and were very cognizant of our water levels without interfering with our conversations. Indian food that is authentic and not dumbed down in the flavor department. Lamb vindaloo was spicy with detectable slivers of ginger and a tangy acidic edge. The tikka masala, which can be a bland dish, was deep and interesting with what tasted like roasted garlic. The mango lassi was perfect, I think it was flavored with honey instead of simpler, processed sugars. Even the raita was top-notch, cool and creamy and speckled with interesting aromatics. Marlayna, our waitress, was delightful and attentive. We went for lunch so didn't have a cocktail but we most def will be returning some evening to try one of their specialty drinks, which are Indian takes on classic American cocktails....an old-fashioned laced with cardamom, for example. Also, a note about the ambience.....tasteful and trendy, splashes of localized color that you'd expect in an Indian restaurant, but more spartan and clean-lined than Old Pier One.
