It is more and more difficult to find a national fast food chain to have any real confidence in, either as to the quality of the food or the service. And as for a double curse, at most of these spots, the prices go up as the portions tail off. I have found Jason's to be flying against these trends, consistently providing stable value and consistent flavor from a menu that is large and varied - with their full salad bar providing one of the very best values at any restaurant, national or local. On this visit, I was again picking up several items for a small family group. We chose fully loaded containers from the salad bar, a bow of chili, and a full sized Reuben sandwich. Once home, we split the items up for all to enjoy - nothing disappointed! This was a first try with the chili, and it was quite nice - plenty of well seasoned ground beef, no beans or onions, but was well topped with cheddar cheese! The Reuben contained 8 ounces of hot, tasty corned beef, great cheese, plenty of kraut, marble rye, and lots of 1000 Island Dressing. It was cut into the required pieces, and the additional dressing was shared - a bit messy but delicious in total. The center piece was the large amount of variety in the salad, and when well covered in the dressing this was great - not especially healthy with the amount of dressing I added! Today I had to drop my husband off for treatment at the cancer institute. Knowing how much he enjoys a good pastrami sandwich I stop by Jason's to pick up lunch for him so he could have at least one thing happen to him today that made him happy. He didn't feel like eating when I picked him up but tonight he was ready to enjoy his sandwich and this is what he got. It was truly inedible. There wasn't enough meat to even salvage for a small snack. I thew it in the trash where it belonged. I RARELY post a bad review but one star is extremely generous. I had a negative experience at this location several years ago but was cautiously optimistic. If I didn't live an hour away I would have returned it and asked for my money back. Shopping in the Hanes Mall area, we were looking for lunch but not sure what to have. I've driven past Jason's Deli countless times, but never stopped, and we decided to give it a try today since a sandwich sounded good. On first impressions, this restaurant is much larger than I was expecting from the outside. There is a counter to the right where you order, followed by a very long prep area where you can watch them making everything. There's a salad bar, drinks, and ice cream in the rear, and a large amount of tables. Tables seem somewhat haphazard in the way they're arranged, and there were several dirty tables. The menu is a large digital display with many choices, and fairly small print. There's a printed menu on the counter too. When you first walk in, the menu seems pretty overwhelming and it's hard to make a quick choice - I'm happy it wasn't busy so I had time to be indecisive without feeling pressured. We both opted for the Manager Special combos, which are a half sandwich, a side dish, and chips. There were a bunch of bags of chips behind the register, though we were not offered a choice and instead got a handful of ruffle chips on our plates. I'm not sure if the manager special includes a choice or just the plan chips - But they were good and I was happy with them. I opted for the Beefeater Sandwich with broccoli and cheese soup as my side. The sandwich itself was a bit plain (just beef, cheese, mayo), but dipping in the included Au Jus sauce really made it taste good. The broccoli and cheese soup was great. My wife got the spicy Italian sandwich with macaroni and cheese. The sandwich was messy and fell apart some, but the flavor was great. The macaroni was obviously something from a bag (we saw them dumping bags of Mac, Chili, etc into warmers), but it was still good. Next time I go, I'll get the salad bar as my side, because it was quite extensive and looked good when I walked past. There are a lot of options and it seems fresh. A nice treat at the end was the free ice cream in the back of the store. Also, they had quite a few different cold tea options which I enjoyed and found refreshing. I will say the flow is a bit unclear. They give you a number and bring the food to the table, which is nice, though there is no other table service. I wasn't sure what to do with our plates at the end of our meal, since there is no obvious tray return, but I also did not see anyone cleaning up while we ate. There were quite a few dirty tables. However, right before we left I finally saw someone with a cart cleaning up. That could have been more clear. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. I was able to order quickly. The young man taking my order was polite and efficient. I got my drink and a small free ice cream cone while I waited. My to go order came out quickly. The staff was very friendly. The store was clean. Many customers seemed happy. I ordered the California club sandwich and the nutty mixed up salad. Both were amazing!! My only complaint was the potato salad that came with the sandwich (I forgot to specify what side I wanted). The potato salad was super salty and really not great. Jason's is a decent place for a bite but in my option doesn't warrant more than 3 stars. The food isn't unique in any way. They have good sandwiches and we like their salad bar too. My sandwich was good. The Turkey was all piled in the center though(a pet peeve of mine) so I opened it up and redistributed the Turkey so it covered the whole bun. I asked for a side salad instead of chips and instead got chips and no plate to go to the salad bar or a pre made side salad. When they brought me a plate to get my side salad I also got a cup of what turned out to be fruit dip. I'm not sure what happened there but it went uneaten since I didn't order any fruit with my meal. I used to go to Jasons just for the salad bar because it was a great healthy option for a reasonable price. They've changed the salad bar a lot since I first started going there. The offerings aren't as vast and they stopped allowing unlimited trips. The service is average. They have a huge menu and I always feel rushed to decide there because of how their ordering process works. The ambiance isn't particularly appealing. The booths are a bit worn and need some TLC for sure. The floors have always been slippery for the tables and chairs so the booths and tables move easily. It's also always cold in the dining room so I know I need to bring a sweater even in the summer. This was our second choice after our first choice was not yet open. We stopped in about about 4:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. When we walked in, we were surprised at how big it was inside. The entire right side consists of the register and a long counter that has all the sandwich, soup, salad and more fixings for the employees to prepare your order. The left side consists of a large amount of tables of various sizes which seemed to be oddly arranged. The rear of the restaurant contains the soda machines, ice cream machine and salad bar island. It was not very busy inside, there were about five or so tables seated and a couple of customers waiting for to-go orders. The menu is on a menu board hanging from the wall and they also have hard copy menus for you to grab as well. We have never been to a Jason's Deli but assume that like this location all Jason's are set up where you place your order at the counter and they bring it out to your table. The menu is quite extensive but focuses on deli sandwiches while also offering muffalettas, paninis, wraps, salads, soups, pasta, potatoes, and what appeared to be a very nice "make your own" salad bar. My wife decided to get the chef salad and I chose a pastrami and Swiss sandwich and a cup of their chili with cheese and onions. We paid and took our number. As we looked around to find a table, in addition to the five or so occupied tables, we counted a total of fourteen other tables that were still dirty with cups, napkins, plates and silverware. Initially we did not see anyone cleaning up any of the tables but after we found a table there was a female employee who began cleaning up the dirty tables. As we waited for our food to arrive we noticed that they appeared to be short handed. Initially they had one person at the cash register taking orders, one person preparing the food along with what appeared to be either a franchise owner or manager and one employee cleaning tables. About the time our orders arrived we saw a few additional employees begin to work. Honestly, by the time our food arrived our expectations were pretty low. However, our items looked really good. My wife really enjoyed her chef salad and while the pastrami and swiss sandwich was good and looked fantastic, the chili (with no beans just the way I like it was fabulous!) Overall, the food was a 5, the service was good but they were painfully slow and short-handed. The overall state of the restaurant when we stopped in would have been a 2. Bestie and I flew in late on a Thursday and were starving. Jason's Deli was recommended to us by our Uber driver and advised us to place an order directly with them since it wasn't showing on UberEats. We placed an order at 9:40p and we're able to pick it up right before they closed. Unfortunately our paninis weren't pressed - they had already turned off the machine (I'm assuming because they were prepping to close) - at least they were still warm. I ordered the Smokey Jack Panini specialty sandwich and it hit the spot so well - the bread was crispy and the roasted turkey was flavorful. I couldn't taste much of the jalapeño pepper Jack cheese (my fave) but I def enjoyed that the sandwich came with chips (for the jalapeño kettle chips). The wife chose this for our "pre-game" meal. In town for Army vs. Wake Forest football. (Yikes, Army got run over, literally, every few plays one would be rolling about on the ground hurt). Anyway, we had actually gone to a Jason's in Ohio on one of our earliest dates! Of course that remains our favorite location. Really happy with this visit. We both opted for salad bar trips, I got a New York Yankee, she got California Club. The pastrami was a little dry (got a little mustard from the line prep folks) that fixed it right up. Good sandwich, really packed with meat, every bit of 3/4 pound. I was stuffed to the gills with that and my nice little plate of salad I started with. The wife was just okay with the Club, felt like it would have benefited from a slice of avocado (she doesn't like the extras in guac so skips it). We left well fed, and feeling good about a relatively "clean" meal after a couple days of fried decadence and hotel room drinking. Stopped in for a lunch on a Wednesday afternoon around 1. The place was not busy. I ordered a half a sandwich and side salad. For the side salad you prepare it yourself from the salad bar. The salad bar was just average, everything seemed fresh but there weren't a ton of selections. They seem to go harder on the toppings were there were pita chips croutons all kinds of nuts and seeds. The muffins at the salad bar were delish! The half of the turkey wrap was very tasty nothing incredibly special but it was good. This is the kind of place where you order and pay at the cashier and then you take a small placard with a number to your table and they deliver your food to you. The seating area is huge and really kind of in disarray no real order to the tables and chairs. I sat in a booth near the front door and every time I got up the actual booth seat moved it was not bolted to the floor which was weird. The whole place seems a little bit rundown but it's not brand new. The food was good it was a little pricey to me but then we are dealing with inflation! Where you pick two qualifying items and pay the you pick two price. However, Jason's deli does have a special where it's half a sandwich and a choice of soup or salad. It's very limited tho. I got the steak sandwich and it happened to be very dry. The broccoli cheddar soup though, was the compliment because it helps to take a few bites of the sandwich and then sip some soup. The Alfredo pasta is not too bad. But it's just simple. They come in two sizes. A kid size and a big size. The sweet tea here is great and the room they have is. My husband got the meatball sub with gluten free bread (again, and described it as between excellent and outstanding) and I got the AMAZING salad bar (again and describe it as knock-my-socks-off). Their salad bar is HANDS DOWN, the BEST I've ever had!!! Everything is so FRESH!! The staff constantly services the salad bar so it is full and CLEAN! Favorites included: yellow and red bell pepper slices, artichokes, hard boiled eggs and the Italian dressing is soooo yummy!! We went around 1pm and there was NO line and we were able to have a table and not be right next to a million other people. Price-wise, we paid about $20 for 2 people for lunch with 2 drinks. Not TOO bad. Would be great to find some coupons or such for here!!! They have complimentary little muffins, crackers, etc... and ICE CREAM!! It's a cafeteria style deli. The staff is friendly and attentive. I got the beefeater which is hot roast beef with provolone and au jus with the macaroni and cheese you can order a half a sandwich manager style. The roast beef was okay, ( nothing to brag about, ) and the French bread got all soggy because whoever put the roast beef on, didn't shake it or whatever it is they should do for a nice presentation. The macaroni and cheese was horrible. They shouldn't even serve macaroni and cheese here... that's how bad it was. You'd think, with their artisanal menu, they would make a nice homemade macaroni and cheese. It was actually worse than Stouffer's frozen macaroni and cheese if that's even possible. But I will say, my brother-in-law, thoroughly enjoyed the New Yorker, which is hot corned beef and pastrami on rye. He gave me a piece and it was absolutely delicious, juicy and enjoyable. This place is more then just great food, it's wonderful people working there that treat you like family. My go to recommendation is the California Club, the buttery croissant and guacamole with the club make it delicious. Their seasonal items are fantastic too. Especially the soups! They even helped me when my card was put on hold trying to order lunch (someone stole money from my account a few days earlier, thought my account was good but it was still frozen).
