When you are craving a really great burger do not sleep on Cafe Arthur's for their smash burger. Cafe Arthur's is most known for their awesome breakfast menu but tonight a burger was the only craving I had. Cafe Arthur's has a few other great sounding burgers on their menu beyond this smash burger I ordered. I've had the Burger Basket there a few years ago with the onion rings and loved it so of course the onion rings had to be the side again. Ask for the spring mix to be subbed with shedded iceberg for that crunch of lettuce too. Honestly, I'm not here to yuck anyone else's yum but SPRING MIX?? On a burger??? Who does that? Other than that one change the burger was perfect. Loved every bite. It's big though, two 4 oz patties and all the other toppings on a toasted sesame seed bun. I could only eat half of the burger and onion rings so I had a nice to go box I took home and my son finished it for his dinner. Our service was friendly and quick. We were greeted at the door and seated immediately. They had a good crowd on a Friday night around 6:30pm. The parking at Cafe Arthur's can be a bit challenging. They have spaces surrounding the building but also share a parking lot with other businesses so you might have to park a little further during peak times but not that far. I'm not a big meat eater, so when you get a five-star from me that means it was really good! The Patty Melt has grilled onions, egg, and American cheese on grilled rye bread with one side. Cafe Arthurs is one of my favorite breakfast spots. I normally order the smoke sausage but this morning I was craving country ham and grits. The country ham was huge and tender. I got my eggs scrambled and opted for grits instead of my normal chunky hash browns. Everything was great except the grits. It was bland with a weird taste to it. Not sure if they add milk or cream but I prefer water, salt and butter in my grits. I do recommend the country ham but I will skip the grits next time. You can get a biscuit or toast as well. I waited 15 minutes and no one brought me a box or took my to go order. I usually tip VERY well but this time I left no tip. It's rare that you find a "greasy spoon" that my Wife loves, but damn Arthur's clicked all the boxes for her in terms of taste, service, and offerings. Most of the clientele when we were there for lunch were old and on the Trumpy side, but don't let that deter you from an affordable well done diner style meal. We dined at 11 and they still were serving breakfast plus the full dinner and lunch menu. I got a chicken biscuit with egg, cheese, and tomato and it was so good. My literal only suggestion would be a making the chicken pieces thinner, but that's just because the biscuit and fried chicken piece was so big it became a knife and fork situation. The wife got a BLT, potato salad, and fresh potato chips and each was great. Only actual feedback would be the potato salad was good, but a little too heavy on the sweet pickle (it could benefit from an onion of some kind and just a hint of mustard). The star was the potato chips fresh made with the perfect amount of soft and crisp that we both personally love because it's so hard to nail that at home. I wanted to grab breakfast in between two doctor's appointments and remembered I had not been here in quite awhile. Nestled in the beautiful Ardmore neighborhood, this cozy diner style restaurant has been a stable in the community for a long time. It recently came under new ownership and they are doing a phenomenal job. Very welcoming and friendly, feels like your home. There are both tables and booths and though it may look small, there is plenty of seating inside. The menu has something for everyone and they run daily specials. Today's special was 4 bacon strips, two eggs, one side and toast. The bacon was perfectly crispy, with two o er easy eggs and whole wheat toast that was soft and perfectly buttered. I got a fruit cup side, with fresh blueberries, strawberries, pineapple & grapes, it topped off this perfect breakfast. My server kept my water filled and checked on me several times. My wife had this in our bookmarks for a while. We were heading East to the Greensboro area and thought we would stop in for a quick breakfast. It is located in the Ardmore area among residential neighborhoods. The same block is home to other businesses that we want to come back and check out too. Parking appears to be very limited but were able to park in front of another establishment that was not yet open. There is a Food Lion across the street which might be the best option when really busy. The building is fairly small and therefore has only about 20 tables of various sizes and most were occupied when we arrived. We were immediately greeted and the young man immediately wiped down a table for us that had just opened up. The interior feels like an old diner with splashes of today. We could tell this was a locals place as we heard many people talking with each other and they seemed to recognize one another. We sat down and started looking over the menu. The breakfast menu states it is served from 6-11:30am, Monday through Friday and all day Saturday. Arthur's is closed on Sundays. My wife read quite a few reviews where others recommended the Breakfast Burrito which sounded like a great option for me. My wife chose the Meat Lovers Omelet minus the cheese, home fries, fruit and added a side of sliced tomatoes. The young lady who took our order was friendly and efficient. We were also impressed with the prices! Our food arrived quickly and looked delicious. Everything tasted as good as it looked! We were checked on throughout our visit and felt taken care of. This quiet little diner is a nice stop for breakfast. The pancakes probably are the best in town. But until today I'd never been here for lunch, so I thought I would see what things are like on the midday menu. I wound up choosing the club sandwich with fresh chips, and the result was a little underwhelming. Maybe the burgers or other sandwiches are better options; I'd be willing to try something else here since I know they offer a solid breakfast. And so my rating reflects more about my knowledge of their early offerings than of today's experience with a surprisingly skimpy and small sandwich. In particular, if you're an early riser but not someone who wants drive-thru food or the Waffle House experience, the 6am opening time here will suit you well. Get the breakfast burrito! Arthur's is the quintessential neighborhood diner and I love that it is within walking distance of the Ardmore homes. I have only been to Arthur's for breakfast and every time I go, I get the breakfast burrito. When I find something I like, I usually stick with it and that burrito just does it for me. It's one of those places that you drive past regularly and never think about. But today, I went for lunch. They have some of the best fries ever. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, like all fries should be. The burger was the best I've had in a while. They refilled my coffee rapidly and were really friendly throughout. In Oct of 2022, their breakfast special was $7, now it's $10.95. Inflation didn't go up 40%! The food isn't better, it's fine. The service is really hit and miss now too. But tonight was special because Arthur's was hosting a special dinner menu. It was almost impossible to choose, but Skeeter and I split the artichoke dip (very large portion) and the kale salad. Both were fantastic! The entrees we chose were the shrimp and grits and the herb roasted chicken. They arrived before we were done with the appetizer and salad, but that was the only issue all evening. The staff was friendly, prompt, and attentive. The artichoke dip was piping hot, rich and full of flavor. The pita was warm and soft, and good on its own. But with a scoop of the rich, cheesy artichoke goodness on top - delicious. The kale salad was crisp and loaded with goodies like beets and carrots, dried cranberries and nuts, and the dressing was the perfect tart/sweet blend. Our herb roasted chicken was a breast and wing, served with celery root mash, honey roasted carrots and a pan gravy that was top notch. The shrimp and grits was tangy and creamy and rich and the polenta cake had lots of flavor and texture. We ended with a slice of blueberry bread pudding that was a perfect creamy custard texture. The biscuits are soggy, the coffee tastes like hot garbage juice, the bacon is really thin and cheap, my omelet was runny in the middle last time I was there. Worst, the staff we've come to know are almost all gone . To be directly clear to the owners of Cagney's, we absolutely are loyal to the real Cafe Arthur's staff. We go where they go. Service was suspect with 3 people tending our table. Pancakes were dry, not same taste as before. Scrambled eggs had no taste and were greasy. Came in after my mom's procedure for a quick breakfast and it was delicious. We spent about $15 for two people. I had a country ham and egg biscuit with the chunky hash browns. The hash browns had great seasoning and onions and peppers. They were freshly made with the perfect amount of crisp. The country ham and egg biscuit had a good amount of ham it was somewhat salty but it's what I expect from country ham and the egg and biscuit help tone the sat down. The coffee was good and the mug never got empty because our waitress was attentive. My mom had the pancake breakfast special. She paid extra to get a pecan pancake. The pecans are cooked inside the pancake and not just a topping so she really enjoyed it. She loved the cheese eggs because they used real eggs and scrambled the cheese inside them. It has been years since we'd eaten at this small place, which is very, very much a neighborhood diner, and that can be good in some ways, and not so good in some ways. When we walked in we were not greeted, so we grabbed an empty table which proved to be dirty, so we found another one on our own. There were two waitresses on the floor, one was at the cash register with a customer and spent a solid 10 minutes talking with her while new arrivals remained unattended to. The other waitress finally ended her conversation with a table that was finishing up their meal and brought us menus. We ordered a late breakfast meal - Alice going for the Buttermilk Pancakes with a side of Bacon (total of $6), and I picked a Breakfast Platter with 2 eggs, sausage, chunky Hash Browns & a biscuit ($5.50) with a side of Grits ($1.50), throw in a couple of drinks, and we ring in at $17.61. The food was out in good time, and there were some nice aspects to the food, but there was more than a bump or two, as well. The pancakes were a bit on the smallish side (see photos for Cagney's, Breakfastime, The Lighthouse, etc, etc) & were leathery, over cooked - a major disappointment since we had read rave reviews about the. The bacon was also over cooked, and very salty. The Eggs were perfectly soft scrambled, the chunky Hash Browns were excellent, as were the Grits. The Sausage was a bit over cooked (sitting on the grill?), and the Biscuit was terrible, dry & bland tasting - was told it was a Pillsbury biscuit. In summary, this was a bit of a disappointing experience, both as to the overall service and as to the quality of the food. It is a click-ish place, and while I appreciate friendly, engaging people, I also appreciate attentiveness and efficiency.
