Everything about this meal was perfect. I don't regret a single thing we ordered. I only wish I was able to eat more food because they offer so many more things that I would like to try. This is a very authentic Italian restaurant that offers traditional Italian dishes. We started with the lobster ravioli, which was perfect. Then we eat substituted the side salad that comes with an entree for their minestrone. It was a different flavor than I am used to, but fantastic nonetheless. It actually reminded me more of sopa de fideo, a childhood favorite so I didn't mind at all. I have the Shrimp Diablo, which wasn't too spicy at all. Something I always worry about when ordering that dish. My fiancé ordered a classic spaghetti and meatballs with a tomato sauce. Those were probably the best meatballs I've ever had. The tomato sauce was a little on the sweet side, so he would probably choose the meat sauce next time. The waiting area when you check in was a little crowded, and there was a little bit of a wait even with a reservation. However, our waitress was lovely and once we were seated there were no issues. Amazing osso bucco! We come from time to time and it always good but tonight they osso bucco on the menu and oh my oh my! If it's on the menu you need to get it. It was a pork shank that was fall of the bone tender in a delicious gravy. My wife got the nanna pasta and it was also good, but dang that pork shank was amazing and huge. The service has always been for us and it's a family run restaurant where the owner is still walking around talking with the guests. The decor is fine. I like it because they aren't trying to be too fancy and they wheel around a dessert Carley like it's the seventies or something. Found this while searching for some old-school restaurants in KC, and it delivere-- complete with dim lighting, cozy booths, gracious service and outstanding food. Had to try their 1950s recipe meatballs with ricotta, which you can order as an app or with your meal. I tried them with angel hair pasta. They were so tender and good and the pasta was perfectly prepared. Partner had veal Marsala, which came with green beans and some unusual potato balls. Both meals came with a nice house salad and some fresh crusty bread made in the pizza oven of Jasper's sister place next door. All was delicious, including theChantilly custard dessert, which was full of strawberries. Kudos to our helpful waitress, Maggie, who made the evening extra pleasant. Wow! We were looking for a good meal and more than found it. The atmosphere captured us as soon as we entered. Then the service began and it was exemplary. The summer menu had some great dishes and we chose two of them, Rigatoni ala Melon and Spicey Shrimp. Our friends took us to Jasper's for a lovely evening. We had never been before, though we had had lunch at Marco Polo next-door. They have been patrons of Jasper's for over 40 years. They love the place! Our wonderful server was Hannah. She was delightful and I would encourage you to ask for her whenever you dine at Jasper's. We all shared the table side mozzarella, which was amazing! Check out my video to hear all about it and watch it being made. My wife had angel hair and meatballs and she loved it! She brought some home because the serving was very large. We both had Caesar salads before our round trays, which were very good. Next time I will order extra anchovies because they were a little light. I always order lasagna the first time I go to an Italian restaurant because if they can do that right, chances are everything else will be decent. Their lasagna is made with sausage. I I'm always interested to see what the sausage tastes like because I don't like weird ones. Jasper's is perfect. Our friend had the Pope John XXIII, which looked amazing and he loved. I will order that next time if they have it. It's a spring special. We had grandma's chocolate cake for dessert which all of us liked. It's a little bit loud inside the restaurant but only because it's so crowded and busy because it's so wonderful. We didn't let that bother us during our three hour plus dinner. I would give it five stars because the osso buco is amazing and the food all around is spectacular old school Italian but the ambiance is hit and miss at times. Fantastic Italian restaurant with outstanding service! Every dish we had was flavorful and perfectly executed. We started with appetizers, caprese salad and meatballs with whipped ricotta. House made mozzarella is delicious. Although, table side mozzarella isn't in season until April, we'll be back for the experience. Our entrees came with a house salad (spring mix with a vinaigrette dressing). Main course was a seasonal mushroom cream sauce over pasta. Very good, however it could have used more garlic really amp up the flavor. We also ordered the Capelli D'Angelo Alla Nanni, fantastic dish! Very flavorful with a hint of spice. Dessert we ordered cannoli's, strawberry and coconut cake. Cannoli's tasted very authentic with a subtle sweetness. The cakes were out of this world phenomenal! I'm actually catering them for my wedding cake! 10000/10! The cakes are so airy, moist and not overly sweet. First time in for a friends birthday. It's Fazzoli's trying to be fancy. I had the Linguini Fra'Diavolo. The only spice was the red pepper flakes. The marinara was some of the sweetest I've ever had. Not good at all. The waiter was a cocky kid training another guy who should have been the waiter. Our first time here for a birthday dinner. The restaurant was cozy and comfortable! Our waiter was okay. We had to ask for refills but they were busy! The bread they served prior to our meals was great! All the rolls were warm and soft! However, our meals left more to be desired. While the flavor was okay, the temperature of the food was subpar. It was room temperature and that was disappointing. My sauce had almost congealed due to maybe the temperature and sitting for a while? We paid $6 for extra chicken, but it was maybe an ounce? Chef Jasper Mirabile and his crew have curated his folks authentic Sicilian recipes from the 40s and 50s and given each of 'em their own culinary spin. From the minute you walk in, it's like being immersed in a big ol' Italian family. The vibes are comforting and inviting and the food is flavorful and filling. Hands-down, his famed shrimp livornese is the best thing on the menu. I could bathe in that sauce. But his award-winning lobster bisque is a close second. (Fun fact: Chef Jasper is one of only a handful of restaurants in the country that also feature Shrimp DeJonghe. But ... shhh ... it's only on Jasper's secret menu and only available if he's there.) If you don't save room for his homemade desserts, well ... that's on you. His dessert cart is almost as famous as he is. (Get the coconut cake. Full stop.) The thing I love best about this place is the sheer tradition and spectacle of Jasper's. I've been going here (and raving about this restaurant) for decades. Ive read on social media that most people either love jaspers or dislike it- with not a lot of in between. We had a good time, but my parents used to own an Italian restaurant and I am quite picky. Best thing was the tiramisu- probably best I've had. I asked the deli next door if they sell it and they do for $6 each so if I need a fix I can get it there. Our waitress was prompt and nice. They definitely have a lot of regulars because you can hear them talking to owners or servers like family. Jasper qnd his brother walk around talking to every table. I think that's how they have such a great following- they make everyone feel like family. We got two cocktails. I didn't like mine and they made it into a spritzer and I still didn't like it but I didn't want to be annoying and just drank it. We shared two entrees. The house salad was delicious- but was kind of deceiving to ask if we want blue cheese and then for both that was an extra $4.50! The veal piccata was OK. Definitely not that great. Green beans with it were fine- they tasted like they might be frozen? Then we got the special and honestly I cannot remember the name but it had peas and prosciutto and cream sauce. My husband tasted it and was like the noodles are crunchy. He's not one to ever complain at all restaurant, so I tasted them and I was like yeah that's not al dente that's just plain undercooked pasta. We told our server and they sent another out that was cooked perfectly. The sauce was perfect. I am VERY picky about cream sauce and it was perfect. I would probably order that if I came again. Our server offered us dessert on the house because of the undercooked pasta trouble and that was nice. The ambiance is amazing, it looks very a fancy. I like how it was a half circle booth so we could sit next to each other. I just wasn't blown away by the food, and for 5 stars I need to be like wow this is awesome. This was my second time eating at Jasper's. It's known for its service, food and reputation as long standing locally owned restaurant. I made a reservation on their website a week prior. Did not receive an email or text confirmation. I called the day of to confirm my reservation and it took them a minute to discover my 'online' reservation. These people are still functioning in the 1980's. We were sat in the back sunroom. I wish I would have asked for a table in the restaurant. The sunroom has no atmosphere. We sat for about 8 minutes before a very rushed server splashed water in our glasses and asked us if we wanted cocktails. We ordered the old fashioned and martini Rosa. I'm convinced my 'martini' had zero alcohol in it. We ordered two appetizers-the lobster bisque and bruschetta. The bisque was decadent but had a flavor profile that almost tasted like dessert. It was odd. The bruschetta was good. Unlike our server. He was so rushed the entire evening he gave me anxiety as he practically ran everywhere he went. He was rude and barely had time for us. We almost decided to leave. I think he realized we were getting offended by his abrupt service. He tried to start a repoire with us but he struck out. He said he'd bring us bread and never did. There were butter and bread plates on the table. We ordered cannoli and lasagna for our entrees. They were both disappointing. The lasagna was gross. It was covered in a bright red tomato sauce that had no seasoning. It was like someone opened a can of sauce and ladled it over the lasagna. The lasagna was mushy and gray. The cannoli was supposed to have sausage but my husband only found two small pieces in the three cannolis. Dessert is my favorite course! They bring this cart that has probably 12 desserts. I chose the strawberry cake. Again, it was so mediocre. Very little flavor, the cake had so many air pockets, it was over mixed and dry. It was so disappointing. The food profiles give a very 1950s vibe. Very little seasoning, bland, and ordinary. We will not be returning. This experience was 110.00 plus 20.00 tip. We were celebrating our 24 yr anniversary and left feeling disappointed. read more

Had a solidly mid meal at Jasper's last week. As always service was good and the "performance" of the table side mozzarella was good. Ultimately I just don't think my meal was a good value. Part of it was on me but I still thought food was disappointing for the cost. The table ordered the table side mozzarella before I arrived. I didn't realize they charge $12pp. Which I get that they have to make more for more people, and then it's on me that I didn't pay attention that there was a cost per person, but they made $84 on mozzarella and tomatoes at my table. As I said the performance was good and the mozzarella and tomatoes were good quality but they didn't season the tomatoes at all, aside from the balsamic glaze. Very basic cookery mistake and we just had one salt shaker at the table so we were having to pass up and down the table. I got the nonna pasta and while the flavors were fine, it's clear it was sitting under a heat lamp long enough for the sauce to coagulate. Everyone else's meals looked basic as well. Not realizing I was spending money on the mozzarella, I was tempted by the very attractive dessert cart and ordered the chocolate tartufo, and wow, what a poor dessert. It was vanilla ice cream, rolled in Oreo crumbs, and covered with Hershey's syrup. With reddiwhip and a prepared cherry sauce on the side. I could make that at home, buying all the ingredients for less than what I spent in the restaurant, which was $9. Embarrassing. So going into the evening I thought I'd be spending about $35, but ultimately I ended up spending $65 including tip on what I thought was very basic, one step above Olive Garden, Italian food. Again the service is good. The restaurant is attractive, though probably could use a renovation. It was clear to me that Jasper's is running on its reputation and not on the actual quality of the food. read more

We had a party of 5 and 3 of us had never been to this restaurant. When we all arrived, we were told by the hostess, whom was not that polite, that the dining room was closed for a private event. Jasper's is a KC icon and the first time I tried it (via carry out) I was fairly let down. I'm happy to say though, that after going through the complete dining experience I had a very pleasant time. It was a snowy day in December and my Dad loves Jaspers so we had a reservation to celebrate his birthday that evening. Our whole family got together and were seated in the back by the roaring fireplace. The whole restaurant is very old school italian, and has a really nice warmth to it, especially on a cold winter's night. After being seated it was a pretty standard dining experience, the waitress was nice, not exceptional, but good. The cocktails were a bit wanting in my experience. My husband and I are both into bourbon so we each had their specialty old fashioned. It was a bit syrupy for my taste but wasn't bad. I think if Jaspers wants to become even more of a fine dining establishment upping the game on the cocktail menu could be a great way to do that. The other bit that was a bit disappointing was that the bread we had was pretty hard, I noticed one piece I cut into for my daughter was super fresh and soft and then the one I ate was very stale - so there is some quality control there. My dinner was really great though, I came into it with really no expectations and enjoyed every bite. The sauce was really nice, everything tasted very fresh, and it was a super enjoyable dinner. Overall I enjoyed Jaspers and I'm sure I'll go back again with my Dad. I think it's a perfect place to bring your family. It really fits that family dining vibe, while being a bit on the nicer side. As far as the feel of the restaurant, it was quite busy but did not feel hectic at all. We were sat in their patio area which allowed for a calmer dinner than I would have expected for the time of year. As far as the food goes, I ordered the veal parmigiana which came with a house salad. I will give bonus points for the option of having bleu cheese in the salad, which I enjoyed a great deal but they did not mention that this was an additional charge. As someone who cannot eat pork, having a single pepperoni in the salad was odd and a bit off-putting. The veal was great, nothing too fancy aside from being veal but it was pleasant and leftovers were not an option. My wife ordered the Linguini Fra'Diavolo. She seemed to enjoy it, but found it very lacking in spice; she also mentioned that the shrimp were overcooked and very tough and rubbery. My brother-in-law ordered a Caesar salad as his main and asked for shrimp to be included. He seemed to have had a better experience with the shrimp but this did cause for the $8 salad to now be $23 which we all felt was overboard. Reviewing the menu now, I see that there is an $8 charge to add shrimp to a pasta dish, but $15 for a salad just seems like sneaking in charges to get more money. As far as drinks go, I definitely would just go elsewhere. Of the various drinks that were ordered, only one was enjoyable; my wife's limoncello martini. My brother-in-law's blood orange old fashioned smelled like floor cleaner and was very bland; my pera siciliana had spice to it, but the drink did not feel balanced at all, too much base, too acidic, not enough sweet. The other aspect of this that I did not enjoy was that our waiter never once bothered to ask if any of us wanted another drink. He was consistent in refilling our water while our cocktail glasses sat empty. On the topic of our server, we hardly saw him despite seeing him walk around to other tables near us. I do not feel a party of 8, as we were, should demand attention but anything more would have been decent at best. After waiting a while to get our salads, waiting to have it cleared off, waiting felt like the theme of the night. It felt like we had long intermissions between everything. Getting our plates cleaned off from the salad was long, getting our main dishes took a while after that, having those plates cleaned off took even longer. We were not wanting dessert because we already had a good idea as to how much longer it would be before we got those. The waiter did not bother to ask if we even wanted dessert, he just began setting the table for everyone with new forks and spoons. After he did this, he finally asked if anyone wanted more to drink, but not what we had already ordered, limoncello. We all quickly declined. He did not mention whether it would be for free or for a fee, but we all figured it would not be worth our time if it took another 30 minutes to get that back to our table. He then did the dessert showcase, which he had already done 2-3 to neighboring tables. Only two things were ordered from the cart but they were nothing much worth noting upon. If I could offer points for improvement, I would definitely say the service needs to be much more attentive and move with purpose and urgency to start. The portion sizes were just a step up from Plate, which are very minimal to speak of. As an Italian restaurant, I would expect larger portion sizes, even Olive Garden has bigger portions than here. The drinks need to be redone, not even saying what is for offer, more so just the taste of them needs much improvement. When it comes to pricing, any restaurant should be more transparent with additional fees such as adding shrimp (way overboard) or adding bleu cheese. read more

Had a great lunch at this old family run spot the other day. Happy to report that after more than ten years since my last visit the level of service and menu have remained excellent. In fact, I would go so far as to say they have improved and there is a real sense of pride in what they do. I usually don't get real excited about Fettuccine Alfredo but I have to say that my wife's order reminded me of the "alla panna" dishes I use to enjoy while stationed in southern Italy.
