I cannot say enough good things about this place. From the service to the quality and taste of the food, everything was five stars. All the food has a rich flavor to where you can tell that it is made from scratch. You have to check this place out to know exactly what I mean,but my rating is well deserved! Jasper's remains one of the shining gems in the Kansas City restaurant scape. We went with friends to enjoy the special monthly menu they were running. Between the crispy polenta with gorgonzola cream and the Lobster Bisque en Cappuccino, I went with the polenta. Only because I' usually so disappointed in the lobster bisque I get in restaurants. And, frankly, I make a pretty fantastic bisque myself. But then I tasted my PC's bisque. Sigh... exquisite! Of course the tossed salad was delicious as Jasper has a great dressing! My entree of Pasta and Tuscan Pork Ragu was also delicious and somewhat lightly bathed in a flavorful Ragu sauce. The dessert of chocolate Tartuffo was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. I love Jasper's. It is a wonderful place to go to enjoy some old school charm, an authentic dessert cart, outstanding and attentive service (Thank you Salvadore!) and a consistently delicious meal. I'm always somewhat amazed to see how much Jasper himself gets out into the dining room to greet not only the regular customers, but those of us who don't make it in often. Wanted to go ahead and give this place a try because i've heard nothing but great things about this place. Came in on a Monday evening with a party of 4. We were originally told that it'd be a 25 minute wait, however, we were seated within 5 minutes! The bread (not pictured) is amazing! Every entree comes with a house salad or you can upgrade to any of the other salads on the menu. It took about 15 minutes for our waiter to take our drink order.. definitely nothing against this waiter, you could tell they were very busy for a Monday night. It took about a total of 30-45 minutes for our salads to come out which i found a little bizarre, given that it was just a salad. Nonetheless, salad was delicious. I ordered the cacio e pepe pasta and added broccoli and grilled chicken. The amount of grilled chicken that was added to the plate was not worth the price. (I believe it was $6+ for the chicken) I think I had about an oz of chicken on my plate. The pasta was pretty bland and lacked flavor. I had to add a generous amount of salt and pepper to have the true flavor of the pasta come out. We ended up ordering dessert and I have to say, this was probably the best thing from our meal. We opted for the New York Cheesecake and were NOT disappointed. So creamy and delicious! Would probably come back to Jasper's on a slower night to give them another try. read more

Cons: Some (not all, mostly the older guys) of the wait staff are pompous jerks - Depending on who you get is how you'll be treated. Fancy clothing helps, but doesn't always do the trick. Wait time - I'm not exaggerating when I say you'll be there for 3 hours or more. There are several courses and a LOT of waiting between each. It's an event, not just a meal. Expensive - Drinks & side table mozzarella with your meal? Be prepared to pay. Our table of 5 was over $400 and one was a child. I haven't been to Jasper's since high school prom back in the 80s, but I recall it being a great meal even back then. How it fell off my radar is beyond me, but when my wife recently asked if I have ever been there and suggested giving it a try, it all came back to me (I left out the prom part though - duh). Just like a great 80s song, Jasper's has stood the test of time. Although it was in a different location all these years later, it was just as I recalled - great food and friendly service. We started with the calamari, which was fresh and didn't disappoint. But, knowing you can't make a trip to Jasper's without getting the table side mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes, we had that served up next. If I didn't see them make it in front of me I would swear this deliciousness came straight from the Garden of Eden itself. It was so mind blowingly good that my brain didn't even think to take a picture. It would be worth the trip for this dish alone! The evening stayed on track with two great entrees - Jasper JR's "Aqua Pazzo" Cioppino and Ravioli di Ricotta. Both delivered delicious flavors, and this time I did capture their awesomeness with pictures. I love a place where service is never rushed and each course they give you time to relax. Jaspers does this so well. The staff check on you but not overwhelming. You even get the head chef and owner checking in on you. The atmosphere is comfortable, we had a half circle booth. It is beautifully decorated and welcoming. He food is the highlight! I had the Osca busco and it was so tender and so much meat served over a risotto. The wine list is extensive. We enjoyed an Italian red. If you get the chance to have the freshly made mozzarella with basil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and tomatoes in front of you , it is a treat. I have never even heard of this restaurant before. It was recommended by someone on my husband's business trip. He eats there two or three times a week ... The food was amazing! Mozzarella made table side for Caprese Salad (with the next generation at hand learning the tricks of the trade). The fresh, rustic bread. Bread comes with oil, balsamic and parmesan cheese for dipping. The bread and Caprese salad were plenty for me. My husband ordered lasagna. He raved about how good the lasagna was. This is some of the most lackluster Italian food... maggiano's has more flavor than this place... super disappointing birthday meal Ambiance was about the only redeeming part of this restaurant. To start our reservation was written down incorrectly. Our server was also incredibly rude... Cocktail menu was disappointing. Appetizers were probably the best part of the meal... Ricotta and meatballs and charbroiled oysters... excluding our salads that had more bleu cheese than lettuce. Entrees were the worst part of the night. Lacking seasoning and flavor.... I'm appalled their chicken Parmesan is a signature dish. My pasta looked straight out of a box, and the chicken and marinara were incredibly bland... Dined at Jasper's last night for the first time ever. The experience was perfection from start to finish. We made an early Saturday evening reservation. We were seated immediately on the beautiful patio overlooking Watts Mill. Everyone was so incredibly nice and helpful. Our server was just exceptional. The lasagna was delicious. The tiramisu was the best I have ever had anywhere. Chef came out of the kitchen at the end of the meal to thank us for visiting and make sure everything was good. What a delightful evening. Had a great business dinner here with a group of about 8 people. We were seated in a small private area with just our table and a door so that we could close out all the noise from the main seating area - it was packed and loud on the Tuesday we were there, so It's probably wise to make reservations if you're going for dinner, regardless of what day of the week it is. The atmosphere is very old school, upscale Italian, and our service was impeccable. I know a lot of restaurants are struggling to find any servers, let alone really good ones, but our hostess and our table's server were friendly and fast. We ordered a lot of seafood appetizers for the table -- I didn't partake, but I can tell you they didn't last long! And all enjoyed a Caesar salad, evenly dressed, with fresh cracked pepper before our meals came out. I had the chicken saltimbocca -- chicken medallions wrapped in prosciutto with fresh mozzarella in a lemon sage sauce -- and it was incredible. I'm on a mission to recreate that sauce at home. We shared asparagus and mushroom sides, both of which were also good. Between the generous portions and delicious bread that was served with our salads, none of us had really saved room for dessert. And what a shame -- the giant dessert cart they wheeled over was filled with delectable goodies! One person at our table ordered a classic cannoli and made us all immediately jealous. Wow! Why have I not visited this place before? We decided to go for Valentine's Day and boy were we pleasantly surprised. Sure, your bill can start to add up, but the quality far outweighs the price. We started with the Caesar salad. My wife got anchovies and I was a tad leary...KNOWING that a good caesar dressing has anchovies in it. Just never had anchovies by them selves let alone on a salad. I tried one of her anchovie pieces and was amazed. I was a tad jealous that I didn't get any added to my salad...next time! Next, I ordered their fettuccine Alfredo and added some shrimp. WOW! The flavors, the thickness, the cheesiness, the perfect shrimp, GAHHHHHH!!!!!!!! FUHGETTABOUTIT!!!!! After that was dessert. They bring over a dessert cart......let me say that again....A FREAKIN DESSERT CART, and not a small tiny 1 level dinky little cart either. This thing is like 5 levels and has like 10 different desserts to look at and choose from. We couldn't decide, soooooo, what do you do? Get one to eat and another to take home. I had a fangirl moment when I met Jasper Mirable who personally came to greet us when we dined at his fantastic restaurant a few months ago. The food was ofcourse top notch and the tableside mozerella salad was the best salad all three of us ever had in our entire lives! Let me put it this way, you haven't lived if you haven't seen fresh mozzarella prepared right in front of you. The preparation took just a few minutes and was nothing short of brilliance. Jasper's nephew made mozerella with wisconsin cheese curds tableside and it was served at a perfect temperature with the best local, farm fresh and succulent tomatoes we ever had the honor of tasting. The perfect drizzle of balsamic reduction and the extra virgin olive oil made for an astounding dish. For the apetizers, we had the lobster ravioli that looked great as it was smothered in pink sauce and interestingly, was on a sweeter side but with a robust lobster flavoring. For the main course my friend had the ravioli with ricotta filling and he described it as a very good dish. My husband tried their shrimp dish with pasta which is a 56 year old recipe and he loved it. I added chicken on the side in my pasta dish and enjoyed the platter but unfortunately the added chicken was a bit chewy and did nothing good. The pasta alone was outstanding. Although the chicken and pasta did not go together, it did not spoil my evening in any way. Instead, what we had for desserts made our evening a lot brighter. Jasper's strawberry chantily cake is simply magnificent! I loved the slice so much that my husband bought an entire strawberry chantily cake from Jasper's for my birthday recently. Yes, they do bake birthday cakes! Just call them and they will happily help you out. We loved the service and the restaurant interiors. We chose to sit in the back room for added natural light (summers) and our server was fabulous! I went back to Jasper's for the first time since I was in high school and it did not disappoint. We went on a Tuesday and I made reservations just to feel more organized but dang even on a Tuesday, I highly recommend make a res! They were packed! My boyfriend isn't from KC so we decided he needed to try a KC staple. We of course got the table side mozzarella. When this is in season I cannot recommend it enough! The cheese curds are fresh from WI, the tomatoes are locally grown and so is the fresh basil. You will not get a more fresh salad and it is such an experience to watch it be made in front of you. For the main course we ordered ravioli and a seafood pasta. We both took bites of each others meal and mmmmmm they were so good. My boyfriend being from the East Coast has had high expectations for food here and Jasper's hit the spot! He was so impressed with how fresh everything tasted. We of course got dessert because I love dessert. We went for the death by chocolate cake and whoa.... we obliviously finished the whole thing. This was such a great place for a date night and we loved every thing we ate. Jasper's is pretty unique. They have a deli/store area on one side, and a fine dining restaurant with a dress code on the other. It is an interesting dichotomy for sure. I don't mind a place with a dress code, but I would like it somewhere on the website. I was wearing a nice shirt and khakis, but had a hat on. I was asked to remove it in the dining room, and expose my hat hair to everyone. :D Again, not a big deal, but if I'd known before, I wouldn't have worn it to begin with. The service was amazing. The staff was so attentive and took great care of the table. The food was also wonderful. I would definitely put this in consideration for the best Italian in KC. My wife and I came here for our anniversary and it was wonderful. We each had a special, mine roasted chicken and her's a double meat pasta, ravioli and tortellini on top of that.
