I came here on a wet and cold Saturday afternoon, and I ordered a medium cappuccino, as well as, a butterscotch brownie. This cafe is wonderful, and I've come here a couple of times. I usually sit out on the enclosed patio, however, today was definitely not the day for it. The have a heating element for the patio, but it wasn't turned on today. So I basically plopped down at one of the side tables inside. This place is definitely nice during the summer months tough, and it's nice to be able to sit and chill with friends while sipping a cool coffee or Expresso. They have over 40 different coffee beans, and plenty of good lunch options as well. The brownie that I ordered today, tasted like it was baked today! I also like the fact that the music isn't extraordinarily loud, and plus the WiFi is up to speed!

Cozy cafe conveniently situated along Q street that isn't too crowded during the weekends. They also offer a wide array of roasted coffee beans for sale.

Love me a good cold brew and this one tasted amazing. I love supporting local when I can. This is a cute coffee shop that's also great to study and do work. The vibe is friendly and cozy and shop smells aromatic of fresh coffee. Check them out!

Large iced coffee and chocolate croissant

I came here with a friend of mine on a Saturday late morning. We both ordered iced coffees, I got a chocolate croissant and he got a ham egg and cheese on a croissant. We both liked the coffee (though I'm not much of a coffee drinker so I can't compare it to others). I enjoyed my chocolate croissant, but my friend said his breakfast sandwich was bland and greasy. A lot of people were getting their sandwiches on bagels, so I think maybe the croissant was (at least part of) the culprit. We went up to the counter to order - there seemed to be confusion on whether to do that, or sit at a table and wait for someone to approach. I'm definitely going to give this place additional chances now that I live in the neighborhood - I see several "regulars" every day on my walk to work, so this place must be doing something right! I'll update my review if I have a better (or worse) experience in the future.

1 star for location only. The grumpy Latina needs to go though. Not feeling her vibe!

A great place for breakfast if you're in the mood for babies or light fare. Iced coffee is cold brew and served tall.

I like the con leche better than the cold brew, but neither of them are amazing.

The standout of the morning was the breakfast side potatoes--crispy, seasoned perfectly, and easily something I'd come back for. The breadbasket came with three pastries, which felt a bit smaller than expected, but the almond croissant more than made up for it. On the heartier side, the chicken and waffles were extremely filling thanks to the dense waffles, so definitely a dish to tackle with an appetite. One of the biggest surprises was the brunch salad with salmon, which ended up being one of the best salads I've had in a long time--fresh, balanced, and satisfying. The breakfast sandwich was another highlight: so good that it's now the new standard I'll compare all other breakfast sandwiches to. The smoked salmon bagel was also a fun experience, served deconstructed so you can build each bite exactly how you like it. Not everything was a hit--the French toast wasn't my favorite--but the overall meal was strong enough that it barely detracted from the experience. Brunch offers a few additions beyond the regular breakfast menu, but overall it's very similar to their standard breakfast, just with a couple of extra options. It tends to get full on the weekends to make a reservation. Bottom line: Penbrook is a beautiful hotel restaurant that punches above its weight--excellent service, memorable dishes, and several items worth returning for.

The space itself is bright and airy and a bit on the noisy side. But the service was very good, and the food was served quite quickly. I've been on a shakshuka kick lately, so I opted for the the Sweet Potato Shakshuka, which is described as: Sweet Potato Curry, with Chickpeas and Sunny Eggs with a the chicken add-on - gotta get that protein in, after all. This was one of the most unique shakshukas I'd ever had... It literally tasted like a curry dish you might get at your local Indian restaurant, with a bit of a brunch flair to it. The curry itself had a wee bit of spice and was a bit sweet - but that could have been from the sweet potatoes. The chicken was served in a bowl on the side, which felt a bit... odd... I would've expected it to be incorporated into the main dish. It was kind of bland and a bit lukewarm, so I don't know that I'd order that again... but I would definitely order this again!

Fantastic dinner in a more artsy/hip area of Washington DC…read more In the beginning, the dinner's pacing felt a little rushed when we sat down, but after we ordered, everything came out at a sensible pace, they weren't rushing to have you leave so someone else can have your table. We were sat in the solarium area, and it was during the heat dome, and it was really warm in there. Otherwise, though, it's completely charming inside and reminds us of some of the best French bistros we've been to in the country (e.g. Balzathar, Le Supreme). The three cocktails we tried--the frose, le jardin, and the clouseau--were all stunners. And of course the bread deserves another special mention, *especially* the room temperature butter. Thank you for not serving hard as hell butter! We shared the warm shrimp salad to start, and for $31, we were expecting more than a few avocado slices and 4 shrimp on it, but c'est la vie. The dressing was incredible, and the greens were crunchy. That's actually the only dish of the night that we thought was unfairly overpriced. One of us ordered the burger and the other got the rabbit pappardelle--you've got to get rabbit when you see it on a menu, which isn't often enough! There was a good amount of super tender meat and the pasta was perfectly al dente, all in a lightly stunning sauce. Chef's kiss. The burger was, no surprise, another triumph. There was juicy meat, bun integrity, and all the right accouterment notes. The fries are standard. Our daughter got their mac-n-cheese, which is probably just the gratin dish renamed. It was OK. We kind of got out of control for dessert and ordered the pot de creme, the cookie dough ice cream, and the profiteroles. Honestly, these were all good, but nothing that stood out as exemplary as with the savory stuff. Our only major complaint was the service. It was really spotty and while there was a very, very long gap in between when we got our water and then put in our drinks, but our mains came out almost directly after the salad. And the guy was just not very hospitable. Not necessarily a "bad" experience...it just could have been a lot better. Four stars, and we have already declared that we will be back again to "The Dip" because there is so much else on the menu that we want to try.
