Yay! Possibly my favorite coffee place. I work just down the street, and so it was easy to scoot over for a pick-me-up on a 10 minute break. All the staff have always been super-friendly, but especially Ann, who has been on the morning shift for years now. Love this place. Been here many time and its always great. As other people have said, the upstairs is a great place to work. Quiet, fast internet, air conditioned and really comfortable. But what makes them a 5-star for me is how nice they are. I came in on a Sunday with 3 hours to kill. They closed at 3 (which I didn't know). I was working away upstairs when 3 came and went. Rather than kick me out, the lady working cleaned and closed down the whole place and then only at 3:45 when everything was done she let me know. Very thoughtful. Great place. read more

This is one of my favorite cafes. I would get their peanut butter and marshmallow waffles weekly one fall, but they have since discontinued it. Their PB and banana waffles are pretty fabulous, too. More importantly, the service has been consistently top-notch. Some of the most friendly baristas I have encountered in Seattle. I also appreciate that it's cozy anytime of the year and that I can always find a seat up in the loft to work without disturbance. read more

i used to be a barista. i used to drink bucketloads of caffeine. i used to eat the various pastries at all these shacks not because they were good but because they were already there. java jahn's is different. i find myself going out of my way to grab a hot chocolate and small snack. it doesn't matter what because it's good. I've only started working in the area for two days and i've already visited Java Jahn's twice. (that's big time for me). the girls that work there are super friendly and funny. there is an upstairs area with additional seating from the cramped first floor that was cozy yet clean. i LOVE this place. it made me love coffee again. still on the fence about whether or not that is a good thing. read more

I just moved to Seattle a couple of weeks ago and have been trying a new coffee joint every couple of days. I've been to some places with great coffee, but Java Jahn is hands down the best one yet. Not only does the coffee taste wonderful, but the service was amazing. The ladies at the front counter were so fun and friendly that I felt more than welcome. The soy iced mocha that I ordered was made in very quick time and tasted perfect. One thing I've had to get used to in Seattle is the lack of parking, but there is plenty of street parking around Java Jahn so that wasn't a problem. I cannot recommend this place enough. read more

I have been coming here for years and love the owner and all the girls that work there. I love my morning routine of walking to the shop with my pup Seamus and getting my delicious coffee. They use Lighthouse roasters which is one of my favorites and also have mud bay treats for the pups. They serve a mean puppachino too :) They also have a great spread of gluten free bars, mighty o donuts and sandwiches. Love you guys :) read more

I can't say enough good things about Java Jahn! It was close to my old house, and such a great place to walk to with my many strollers over the years. The coffee and treats are delicious, the baristas are always friendly, the owner is a good friend, and it's nice to see regulars and familiar faces all the time. We left Seattle/Ballard last year, and it was the last place we stopped for a delicious coffee and waffle on our way out of town. Very sad to no longer have it just down the road! read more

I love that this place is so close to work and if I need a coffee,hot chocolate, or peligrino fix, I can come by and grab some. The baristas are super friendly, they prepare the drinks quickly, and they taste great! I also like that they are dog friendly. Seeing as though I have a dog and we go on walks frequently, it's nice that I can come inside with my lil furry companion. I love Java Jahn! The ladies that work here are very sweet. When I worked near by I would come and get coffee all the time. They have great sandwiches and there coffee is great! What I love and miss about this place is Jahn and the nice conversation you get here. I know ppl knock the place because it just "okay", and the truth is I felt the same way when I first went. After you go awhile and get to know the ppl that work there the atmosphere changes and well for me it was a nice escape from the horrors of my work. We discovered this place by simply driving by and looking for a Starbucks. What we discovered was something much more than just another coffee shop that's just mediocre. My significant other and I tried out the Tuna sandwich and found it remarkably great! I highly recommend it. The service/employees are friendly as well. okay, so this place is supposedly friendly. I have been going in for a long time, and while I see the majority of customers get great customer service, for some reason they are complete bitches to others. The owner is very nice, and one and only one barista is great, but the rest of them are just rude. It is the only coffee place near my work, so I find myself having to go there from time to time. The two in the morning are the worst. I always tip well, go in often, but I still cant get any 'thank you', 'have a nice day', or anything. They are rude and act like they are in some sort of clique that you have to be in in order to get decent service. About a month ago, i was exhausted from a hard day of work and after I got my coffee, i decided to read at the upper level. Well. they didnt know I was still there, and I listened as those two catty females descibe what i was wearing, mock me, and call me trash. I have also heard them making fun of others as well. While I get coworker banter, I really think the owner needs to tell the workers that customer service should not be a haphazard thing. many coffee places in seattle are snooty with their all organic coffee and gluten free menu, and I would rather deal with that ANYDAY compared to Java Jahns rudeness. I have tried just about every brand of espresso in Puget Sound, and Java Jahn shines at the top. Whether its regular or decaf, their staff are all skilled in making crema-rich, flavorful drinks. Their sandwiches and pastries are also of high quality. And you can get your order and go upstairs to a cozy 2nd floor bistro area.
