We were excited to check out this Serious Pie location in Ballard during a recent holiday shopping expedition, but honestly we were a little disappointed. While other Serious Pie locations tend to be semi-upscale-yet-casual pizza joints, this spot felt more like an afterthought with its small, dark space and decidedly hole-in-the-wall vibe. The good news is, the pizza was still delish, as it always is at Serious Pie. We enjoyed the sweet sausage pizza that has become a fave over the years, along with a couple of beers which were served in plastic pint "glasses". Okay, I'm sure this makes me sound like a beer snob, but plastic?! Good beer just doesn't taste good in plastic. (Unless you're at a frat party?) Our server (who, by the way, was excellent) later told us he'd accidentally used the wrong glasses for the beer; so apparently it's something they're fixing. Yay! It was also darn cold inside. We had to keep our coats on the entire time. A door between the restaurant area and the semi-open entrance to what appears to be their central storage area would most likely help. Again, this all probably seems a bit petty. I'll own that. But as someone who loves Tom Douglas and his restaurants, and has had great experiences at other Serious Pie locations, this one was a disappointment. Especially since they're charging the same (some might say elevated) prices as they do at the other locations. Maybe if they called it something else, to differentiate it? Serious Pie Lite? I haven't had a lot of good pizza in the Seattle area so the other day I stopped by Serious Pie on a Thursday evening. It was a great day outside, we had a dog with us, and so we opted to sit on the patio. There were not a ton of people out there, maybe one other group, and the area was super spacious. A lot of the pizza flavors are really intriguing. The clam Pizza immediately caught my eye but of course they were out. But it was national cheese pizza day so we ordered one of their cheese pizzas (selecting 3 types of cheese) and one of their potato pizza. Both were delicious. They had a really crust and all the toppings were generous and flavorful! The employees here especially went above and beyond. They brought the dog water, and were really generous about treats (asking first of course). Definitely a nice chill place to get a pizza! read more

Went here for dinner after spending some time across the street in at great notion and overall had a great experience! A friend and I split the two specials for this month which were both Nduja Bella (a thinly sliced sausage). One was sweeter with baked apricots and had an amazing flavor to it combined with the pesto and burrata. The other had yakima corn and was more of a neutral taste. The ambiance was nice as we sat outside in the corner 6 table as the sun was setting and felt like a perfect summer day. And Serious Pie had some seriously good flatbread (I got the pear gorgonzola). I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but here's what made the experience amazing: the staff. I stopped in while walking my dog on a hot day. They brought him his own water bowl, a treat, and gave him a bandana. And then our server took a bit of time to chat with me, which rarely happens in Seattle. Came with a group a few nights ago. The restaurant is in the middle of a bunch of funky stores, warehouses and beer breweries. Serious Pie is serious about making good pies. Every one of them were cooked perfectly with thin crispy crusts. Toppings were yummy and just enough of them. The potato one seem to be a tiny bit heavy with rosemary, but otherwise great. We tried their new brunch menu. I think this might have been a thing before the pandemic but they just recently brought back biscuit-focused brunch items. The service was really friendly and quick. The biscuits were great and the prices were pretty fair for Seattle. My only recommended change would be to offer a Tabasco free gravy option or make the current gravy slightly less spicy. The gravy was really good and creamy but it's VERY spicy. I hope they keep their brunch menu because Seattle is largely lacking on brunch options, especially around the breweries. read more

Came here on a road trip through Seattle and saw that serious pie was a hot destination. I ordered on the phone first and then came to pick it up. It wasn't crowded at all the late afternoon but they seemed to take a while to come out with our food. In addition, it didn't come with chili flakes and it took them forever to even find a packet. I ordered the yukon gold potato, pecorino romano, rosemary pie with extra Italian sausage. After bringing it to the locks, I bit in to a pie with good crust, a bit undercooked potatoes, and expensive sausage. The pizza was almost $30 with the extra sausage. Flavor wise it was a great combination but it was just a bit small in addition to the undercooked potato. Overall it was kinda just average for me. They are Not kidding! This is some Serious Pie! How do I describe this? One of my dining companions said 'I think this has ruined all other pizza for me.' That's a good descriptor. The wood fired crust is crunchy at the edges and well cooked (as in the pizza chef did is correctly). The sauce has a nice herb quality. There is a fragrant olive oil in there. The mozzarella on my pie was thick and creamy, not overly chewy or stringy and the fresh basil has a nice mild flavor. I had an iced tea, which is fresh brewed, and it is one of the best iced teas I've had at a restaurant. They also have house made lemonade, soft drinks, beer amd wine. Walk up to the cashier on the sidewalk to place your order and select one of their picnic tables on either side of the street to dine-in. They have a 3 minute parking spot for pre-ordered take-out carry out. The staff are very friendly. This place is no frills. The attention is on the food, and it's really good. read more

The pie was as good as what I remember from before Covid. The sandwich from serious pie I'd never tried was extremely good too! There are a lot of breweries around, but you "can't" bring a 6-pack and drink it at the tables outside... according to the cashier. TLDR: Seriously overpriced for what you're getting. My credentials: born and raised Italian now living in Seattle, looking for good pizza. Several friends pointed me to Serious Pie, and wow, I was hopeful. I was very let down by this place. Mostly, it's seriously (!!) overpriced. The $17 margherita I ordered was appetizer-sized. The mozzarella pieces were definitely too big proportionally, considering that they didn't fully melt into the sauce and easily slid and plopped all over the place. Not the refined or "elevated" pie you'd expect by any means. The $13 kale salad I also ordered didn't help soften the blow when I picked up my order and noticed how small it was (maybe a cupful of kale, about a tablespoon of pine nuts). Somehow it costs the same as their pork shoulder sandwich? Anyways! Still hungry and considering ordering a second dinner. I have always loved Serious Pie, but I was always challenged by the waits and all of the other places nearby. Serious TakeOut brings the same tasty pizzas to the northern neighborhoods. Ordering a pizza online is a breeze and there is plenty of parking around the area. There are also plenty of breweries nearby so it's very convenient as well. I had my favorite version - the sausage and peppers, which was so good, and also a solid cheese pizza for the fam. They also brought over the smoker from Brave Horse (RIP), and they also have a pork shoulder sandwich on the menu which sounds so good. We usually reserve ordering from Serious Pie for special nights. This is the first time I've been dissatisfied, especially given the price. I should've checked my pizza before driving away. My mushroom pizza was burned. I forced myself to finish because again the price. But their was not a single uncharred slice.
