A small coffee shop with a little deli, beer and wine, too. The service is a little slow when they're busy, but coffee is good and it's a relaxed atmosphere.

If you enjoy the thrill of an unexpected soaking wet butt, this is the coffee shop for you. Their outdoor seat cushions appear dry, however, like a sponge, compress and release hidden puddles as soon as you sit down. After soaking our own pants, we watched several other people do the same--some heading straight into a two-hour movie with wet clothes, while an elderly couple had to walk home to change. A customer complained, and staff admitted they knew about the issue but did nothing. Later, someone put warning signs on the chairs, and only then did an employee bring them inside. We thought the problem was solved, but the very next morning, the wet cushions were back outside - looking dry, but still hiding their little ambush puddles inside. Assuming the owner didn't know, I brought it up to her. She knew about the problem, indicating that "it had been raining" and that customers should "take personal responsibility" for the surprise derriére drenching. Her response not sitting well with me, I kindly asked how someone could take responsibility in this situation. Without missing a beat, the owner responded that she's selling the business and doesn't care about the chairs. "Could you take them inside?" I asked. Her solution? "If it bothers you, buy the business." I even offered to buy the chairs to solve the problem, but she smugly told me they "come with the business." Meanwhile, locals and regulars are walking around town looking like they peed themselves. Apparently humiliating customers is just part of the experience here. If you want a coffee shop that values basic customer care, look elsewhere. If you want to roll the dice on walking away with wet buns and a side of public embarrassment, pull up a chair.

A yummy sandwich! The fresh lemonade was also delicious!

The food and service here was great! I'm looking forward to returning and trying other things from the counter.

Walt from Walt's Adventures reporting in from Nevada City, California. Java Johns is a awesome little shop in the heart of Nevada City. Besides offering customized coffees, their specialty are custom built sandwiches, pastries, and is a wonderful stop. The coffee I had was perfectly crafted. The Cinnamon roll (not pictured) was pretty good. 4 of 5 because some of the chairs were a bit wobbly. This eatery really cares for its customers and their community. If you are in town, stop at Java Johns

Food and coffee are awesome. What's is poor is the way you are spoken to by the tall lanky dude behind the counter. I get it that it's almost closing time but come on. This is the third time its happened so its a pattern. I ordered a 16oz drink and it was half foam. Aside from that, great place.

This is my first time here and I'm impressed! The lady behind the counter is really nice and had my order ready really quick even if she was on her own and had several other customers. My bagel (sorry I was hungry and forgot to take a picture before I bit into it) is crispy and delicious. My chai is foamed to perfection and the ambiance is so cozy and welcoming. Would definitely come back!

Nevada City hosts several coffee shops but if you're a coffee snob, as I am, go here. Best coffee in town.

Went to a wedding in Nevada City back in Jun 13. Stayed nearby and would walk in early every morning for a fantastic cup of coffee.

It was $14 and was completely forgettable. The bowl wasn't any where near full. The miso soup was bland. We got the quinoa added and it was totally forgettable. Said it would have green pea and sunflower shoots, but we had none. There were some green onions slices floating around on the top. We ordered two dishes to share and this one didn't fit the bill as a shareable item. For the disappointment we had in the miso it was totally made up by the vegan kale cesar salad. It was a large bowl of yum! Hearty serving of well dressed kale. The Cesar dressing delicious! Slices of cucumber, avocado and chick peas and a beautiful thick slice of bread on top. It was so filling we easily shared it and filled us up. It was $15 only a dollar more than miso broth bowl. It's was so worth every penny. The service was friendly and fast. It's a pick your own table place, which means one usually has to wipe their table down for crumbs. We don't mind. It's a cute place. We found parking fairly easy. Commercial street being blocked off to traffic is nice.

We ordered a house sausage pizza and to add the salami to the pizza which was a great choice loved the pizza we watched it get made right in front of us and their bacon and cheddar melt. I personally though the bacon and cheddar melt was fine I probably wouldn't order it again looking back on it just simply on the fact it was $21 and the pizza was $23 it just felt very boring and overpriced in comparison to the pizza. I do love the sustainability of this place but find it odd the water cups are plastic after all the effort put into reusable, sustainable, organic, and farm fresh It definitely eat here again especially with the fact the menu is always changing the pastries here were a hit every other table had something from the bakery or a pizza. This is a great spot to come on a date or with a bunch of friends. I haven't tried the brews here yet but I'm looking forward to it. The staff here are very sweet and food comes out quickly. Parking is right outside of Three forks and plentiful even on a Sunday afternoon.

Started with a Cappuccino & a Mocoa, both were hot, delicious and not overly sweet. I had the full order of Lobster Eggs Benedict. Eggs cooked as ordered, generous amount of lobster, Jalapeno holidase, avocado ,crunchy well seasoned country potatoes, filling rich and satisfying, dusted off the whole thing. Mrs D had the Corn Cakes, substituted chicken sausage for the hot links with eggs over easy. The Corn Cakes were similar to potato Pan cakes, slightly garlicy with a spicy aioli sauce. Well executed and she loved it. Even though they were at full capacity the service was top notch and all the employees we encountered were smiling and helpful.

Unfortunately, none of our food was very good this time. My husband got the Jamaican jerk burrito and it was too spicy, not necessarily hot spicy, but overly seasoned with spices. My husband said you couldn't taste anything else aside from all the spices. My lobster melt was very dry. Something of note-- they don't have ranch dressing. What they do have is a creamy garlic feta that was decent. It was very busy and the wait went by quickly, but our food took forever to come out. Breakfast had been very good, but unfortunately, lunch was not that great.
