Maui mocha and mac nut latte
    CJ K.

Of course when visiting Kauai, trying their coffee is a must! What better than the well known Java Kai!! Got the mac nut iced coffee and Maui mocha iced coffee and I must say that they were both delicious. The macadamia nut flavor subtly comes through with the rich blend of coffee with a pleasant aftertaste. The Maui mocha gradually grew on me with each sip. The mocha flavor compared to other mocha coffees I've had on oahu can best be compared to dark chocolate vs milk chocolate taste. As a person who prefers dark chocolate the Maui mocha tasted more bolder with a slight bitterness that worked well with the sweetness of the drink. The ambiance is outdoor seating and parking can be a bit of an issue as the location is a popular spot for tourists and locals. The service was above average. With the mass influx of customers at busy hours, the staff did their best to accommodate everyone's orders on time.

Java Kai is the cutest! The service is quick for drinks and pretty quick for food! All the coffees are so dang good but the juice is amazing! The food is fresh and the surfer girl sandwich with caramelized onions with spinach pesto is so good! This location is all outdoor seating but they have umbrellas and plenty of seating. The ambiance is great and there are plenty of cute shops nearby to stroll after you eat!

Tried coming a couple times while staying in po'ipu....there was a line both times but we didn't try that hard. You can order online. We got the Portuguese egg sandwich that surprisingly had nuts in it, a fruit plate, and two coffees. Kid finished the fruit plate prob would not recommend the Portuguese ground sausage and egg sando. It is situated in a historic town which is cool and a good area to shop for souvenirs. Taste OK. Might come back if convenient but not going out of my way to.

Java Kai in Koloa is a super cute surf cafe serving up trendy healthy, and energizing dishes. I went in for breakfast. I tried the egg sandwich, pineapple French toast, and a cold brew with macadamia nut syrup. The service was super friendly, and every everybody who worked there was super chill and laid-back. Java Kai is a must do for breakfast/brunch on the island of Maui.

What a great spot! When we arrived, there was a short line that moved quickly. The server was friendly and upbeat. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with coffee -- both were excellent, especially the sandwich. Sitting outside and looking out over historic Koloa Village, I couldn't help thinking about all the times I'd driven by without stopping. Now I wish I hadn't waited so long.

A cute little restaurant cafe in the area. Really good outdoor seating and ample options on their food menus. Was not crowded and would say it's a popular spot.

I was shocked when I ate here because it's better than most places in Los Angeles (which has a huge food scene). So when I saw a huge line outside of Java Kai I knew it was probably going to be better than the other offerings in the area. The line moves quickly, so it is 100% worth it to wait. This place was so good that I just came here everyday for my breakfast. I didn't even want to try anything else. And as, a Yelper, as a foodie, I am all about trying new places but Java Kai was that good. The coffee is strong and they also roast it themselves. It's local Kauai coffee and it gives you the nice perk to get through all the site seeing we were doing. Normally I would list each item that I had and then rate them but I am not going to do that this time because they all are stand out. Choose what sounds best to you and it will will not dissapoint! I must mention though that their bakery, whoever makes the bagels, the broiche buns, and the muffins is top tier professional. The lemon ginger muffin and the lemon bar was out of this world. I am seriously considering another trip back to Kauai just to have more of those muffins. They had a DJ on Saturday that played electric music which kept it feeling kinda hip and happening. I would've preffered more chill music for the morning, and save the electric music for later in the day maybe. Nevertheless, the DJ was friendly.

Grab a menu from the small table in the front and wait in line :) This cafe is outdoors and super cute with all the colors, just don't catch them on a rainy day like we did I got a forest dweller and it's literally milk tea LOL (hojicha & oat milk). My drink didn't look the best, but tasted exactly as it was described. They also sell beans and other merchandise.

I'm not joking when I say that I basically lived here during my trip Java Kai is THAT girl. Every morning I grabbed either a macadamia nut latte or matcha latte, and obviously you guessed it that both were perfection They have tons of milk + sweetener options so you can really customize. Food-wise, the salad niçoise was fresh, flavorful, and allergy-friendly (the staff was so accommodating ). My friend got the breakfast burrito and summer noodles and RAVED about it. Portions are just right, filling but not heavy. The vibes are so fun too! Aesthetic front patio seating, open air, and one day a DJ was spinning music. It gets pretty busy, but the line moves fast. Make sure to grab their punch card because you'll 100% be back!

Java Kai is a winner every single time we come visit Kauai. We probably came here like 5 times during our week here. The food is incredible. The service is great and the ambiance is perfect. You are literally right below this gorgeous tree and even when it rains (just be careful with your step) it's just what you need during a vacation. The French toast and surfer girl bagel were our favorite and you have to get the Mac nut iced latte is something I'm still dreaming of. When it gets busy expect a wait but don't worry they are as efficient as they can be and with a big smile on their faces. We love you Java Kai! Thank you for making our time here nothing but amazing!

This location is actually soooo cool! It is open in the front and has a bunch of outdoor seating. It was covered by a big monkey pod tree that makes it a super cool environment. The line moved really quickly and we got our order super fast. The food came out very hot!! We got the surfer girl sandwich and croi Sean wich. Both were delicious. My husband also got a maple latte iced and it was delicious. They also are open really early so this is a nice option before a morning excursion. Highly recommend!!!

Located in small cute shopping center. They certainly try to give "Instagram" vibes with a nice exterior and a DJ playing music. Hanalei Ube: Their twist of a Vietnamese coffee. On the pricey side ($10). The Ube flavors were very subtle. I'm glad I tried it, but for the price wouldn't necessarily come back for it. FYI: 3% charge with cc.

If you're visiting Maui and looking for the perfect breakfast spot, Java Kai is an absolute must! With two convenient locations and a welcoming 6 AM opening time, this place quickly became our go-to for breakfast and coffee during our 4-day stay. We ended up coming here three times--yes, it's that good! Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and made with aloha. But if you're looking for standouts, you have to try the Mac Nut Latte--creamy, nutty perfection in a cup--and the Surfer Sandwich, which hits that perfect balance of hearty and healthy. The vibe is chill, the service is friendly, and the food and drinks are consistently excellent. Honestly, there's nothing on the menu you can go wrong with. Whether you're grabbing a quick coffee to go or settling in for a full breakfast, Java Kai delivers every time

I ordered a hot matcha latte with oat milk, and the matcha already comes pre-sweetened per the barista. It tastes very similar to Starbucks matcha, not horrible but not great either. A little too sweet for my liking and not enough of the matcha flavor comes through. The color also wasn't the correct shade of green for good quality matcha, but I'm someone who likes to make my matcha at home and rarely find ones at coffee shops that I actually like, so take my review with that in mind, if you're a casual matcha drinking then you would like their version. It doesn't dry your tongue out or have a bitter taste. The following day I decided to try their coffee and ordered a hot vanilla oat milk latte. It was just okay, the espresso is a little more on the acidic side and I couldn't taste any vanilla flavor. Definitely not the worst latte I've had in Hawaii, but for the cost of lattes nowadays, I wouldn't come back to try more of their menu until I try other local coffee shops first. Pros: Plenty of parking right out front, good amount of seating inside, clean bathrooms, wifi, they sell their coffee beans and merchandise including shirts and hats which are super cute, there is also a small shop inside the same building that sells clothing/candles/bags/etc and the store employee is super nice

If you knew me, I loved all-things mangos, so this was a no-brainer to check it out. A family-owned business that opened in 2022, they served shave ice, ice cream, homemade desserts, Dole Whip, and fun souvenirs. How would my shave ice experience be, and did they have mango flavor!? PURCHASE(S) Small Shave Ice Mango & Watermelon + Additional Flavor Coconut ($8.95 + $0.75): A decent portion size, this was as fluffy as you would come to expect from any shave ice purchased on any of the Hawaiian Islands (the fluffier the better, please!). The three tropical flavors I selected paired perfectly. Not overly sweet, they each had their own distinct taste. As I rapidly tried to eat this frozen treat so it wouldn't melt and make a mess, I wished it came with a funnel skirt or platform to catch everything (Matsumoto had something to this effect which was a wonderful idea). Regardless, with brief bouts of brain-freeze, this was a nice way to end my day in Old Koloa Town. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=144&select=AGCmC1dKOuMUr2QlwEY0kg Cinnamon Toast Cake Slice ($5.95): This simply looked amazing as it sat in the display case, so I had to take one for later. Once I got into it the next morning for breakfast, it was still fluffy, light, and moist with all of the goodness of cinnamon toast crunch cereal, and the creamy thick layer of frosting was truly the icing on the cake. Minutes later, I was at an outside table with my prized possession - easy-peasy! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): I took the bus, so this wasn't an issue for me. Otherwise, there appeared to be some onsite parking with spots along the main drag of Koloa Rd. and other side streets - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A brightly-painted interior that bursted with the sense of a candy store but actually an ice cream parlor, a dessert shop, and random plushies and toys was what you walked into. A decent amount of natural lighting came in through the front doors and windows while an assortment of electric recessed and track ceiling lights filled in the rest. There weren't any TVs, but pop music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=144&select=1ZNTy-MJlQQvT5uUy6BwMw ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I enjoyed my time and treats at Mango's and would consider another return if I were in the area and wanted a dessert. The menu options and flavors were very limited, the prices a bit elevated (except for the cake), and the service was easy and straightforward. Plus, I always loved to try and support small local mom & pop businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $16.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip).
