My daughter began taking classes the summer before COVID. Took a break during quarantine and started up again when we got the green light. The Professor finds ways to teach Jiujitsu in such a fun way the kiddos don't even realize it's work. I am a newer member to Javi's gym (November, 2019), but not to jiujitsu or martial arts. I have had the privilege to learn and train under world class instructors, which is the reason I sought out Javi in the first place, as his lineage, fighting experience, personality, and teaching style, exhibit the marks of such instruction. His brand of "Strike-Based" Jiujitsu, by name alone drew me to seek him out over all other jiujitsu schools in the Inland Empire, as it emphasizes that jiujitsu is first and formost a Self-Defense art. I've gone to 3 classes so far of the women's self defense class, and it's been absolutely amazing. I do a lot of meditation, yoga, and mindfulness based practices in general, and this class has been exactly what I've been missing - it's making everything click (and humbly revealing to me how much more work there always is to do on the self). More women should definitely take classes like this, and especially from a professional like Javier! I have been training with Javi for over four years. When I started looking to get back into Jiu Jitsu, there were a few criteria I was looking for in an Academy. Mainly, was it a clean and orderly facility, was it family friendly, and what was the professor's experience and personality? I can say without reservation that JVJJ has exceeded all of my expectations. The entire facility including the bathrooms are clean.The mat space for training is the largest I've seen in the area, and with the high ceilings, it feels open and well ventilated (especially during the hot summer months.) The mat is always swept and mopped daily. As a father of four kids, I have always wanted them to train Jiu Jitsu. All of my kids are either currently training or have trained here in the past. Without a doubt my kids have learned a lot of jujitsu and self-defense, but that's not of main importance to me. My children have become better young people because of the lessons Javi has helped to instill in them: strength, confidence, humility, loyalty, compassion. These are the character traits I strive to teach my kids. If you have kids, they need Jiu Jitsu, and they will learn it the right way here. Lastly, the level of instruction is very thorough and detailed. This is because of Javi's extensive experience. He has been living Jiu Jitsu and MMA for over half of his life. He's constantly working to refine his technique and he teaches it systematically so that everyone can learn the concepts that can make you proficient, and ultimately, excel. Wow...I can't believe that I've been training with Javi for over 3.5 years now. I guess time really does fly when you're having fun!!! In all seriousness, I was originally referred here by a friend who has been practicing JiuJitsu for over 25+ years. He recommended Javi for his teaching skills as well as the environment he (Javi) sets in making sure students don't get hurt. Javi's style of teaching is detail oriented and conceptually driven. It's not just a memorization of a thousand moves but an understanding of leverage and timing. Javi's style of BJJ is simple and effective, which allows all types of people to participate regardless of age, physical condition, flexibility and size....because the reality is not everyone can do fancy moves requiring tons of explosive athleticism and extreme flexibility.
