I have no idea how to rate Javi's, actually. We went twice over a weekend when we were in town with a sick relative. The first visit was amazing, dining on the patio with really terrific service and food quality. The second visit was terrible, crowded inside and surrounded by crazy loud tables with crazy loud music pumping through the speakers. Food was iffy during the second visit as well - seasonings were inconsistent making the food rather bland. I think it depends on the day when you go here. Most definitely get on the patio if you can for a far better dining experience, unless you are crazy loud then please stay inside. (Or better yet, stay home until you learn manners.) read more

This is my second visit to Javi's. The first visit was a dresser date night with my hubby and this visit was a bit more casual for a ladies dinner out. I love the atmosphere offers both settings. The menu is a more modern Mexican food, but full of flavor and definitely satisfies the palette. We were so caught up in discussion that I forgot to take a picture of my meal. Along with the complementary chips and variety of salsa, we had the Blanco Queso, for our appetizer. Very delicious. For my entrée, I had the tomatillo chicken enchilada, very good! My first visit, we had a very fun and out going waitress. This visit, our waiter was a little bit less out going. However, we were a little indecisive with what we wanted to drink . We are so disappointed in our favorite restaurant. Our 5yr old opened his taco to eat the meat and there was a big piece of plastic in his meat. We showed our server who then showed a manager. The manager did not bother to come out but had our server offer a free dessert. We were not looking for anything for free, just an apology but were told that the piece of plastic could not have come from their kitchen and were blown off. It was not until I went and asked to speak with a manager that a manager came to talk to us. She apologize and gave us "these two $10 gift cards we had laying around". We gave them back, paid for our food and left. We are incredibly disappointed in the way this was handled. Please do better, Javi's. I love your food and spicy margaritas but this really made me upset. read more

Very impressed!! We got the "Compromise" margaritas and they were stout enough to feel it but tasted amazing. Hubby and I split the TexMex platter and it was plenty of food and tasted great. Horrible. HORRIBLE! We have always loved Javis. Sure, some meals are better than others. But I have always defended it when people trash it on fb. Ooof, not after last night. It was a bday dinner, Javis was the restaurant of choice. We had a reservation for 6:30. That was fine. Waitress was very sweet. However. We waited a loooong time for drinks. We ordered queso and waited a loooooong time for that. Every batch of chips was either under cooked - floppy and greasy- or burned. Waited flipping foreverrrrrrr for our food. THEN when the food finally came out we got two meals out of 6. The rest of us waited an additional 10-15 minutes. THEN my daughter's was totally wrong. Had to go back. She waited an addl 10-15 mins. The rest of us were finished when she finally got her food. My son didn't get his side until we were ready to go. My crispy chicken enchiladas were SO crispy I could not cut them with a knife and the black chicken coming out the ends was beyond unappetizing. WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE KITCHEN????? Hire some more staff!! Everyone seemed very stressed, and it seemed the right hand had zero idea what the left hand was doing. This was a TUESDAY night. Waitress was super apologetic and sweet. Mrs' employer had their annual holiday event here Saturday night. Despite the large size of our group, the Service was great. In addition to the tasty jalapeño margaritas we enjoyed, the combination chicken/carne asada fajitas were 'the ticket'. Very fresh. We'll be recommending and coming back before too long. read more

Went to visit my sister and brother-in-law and Mexican food is my favorite. They told us of a place in Tyler that they really liked so I wanted to check it out. The wait was about 20 minutes. Only due to short staff , which is at all places these days. It wasn't a big deal. They have outside seating or inside. I would have loved to sit outside the ambiance was really pretty. It was full, so we sat indoors. The service was very slow. I felt bad for the skeleton crew they had. The little employees they had were working there butts off. I had a combination plate. I always like to try a little of everything. I had a taco cheese enchilada and a tostada. It was a lot of food and very good. I did not finish it all. It's a lot of food. The hot sauce is not hot at all. I asked if they had anything hotter but they didn't. I got some fresh jalapeño and those weren't even hot. One thing I do like is really spicy food. I do like my hot sauce to be spicy, but I guess I can't have everything. I would go back the food is good plus I want to sit out side. You should check it out if you live in the area or visit Tyler, Just be patience with the workers they are working hard with a very short staff. read more

Wife and I ate here about a month ago and it was excellent! Not so today. We both had the crispy enchilada's and they were terrible. So hard they were difficult to cut wit a knife, and like chewing shoe leather! I told the waitress, who was very nice, that really needed an axe! We were invited to join a group for a mid afternoon meal here on a Sunday. We were very disappointed. The table we were seated at had condensation dripping onto us from the overhead air conditioner vent. So we slid our tables over but it didn't help much as some of us were still getting dripped on. We just tried to make sure our drinks weren't under the dripping. . The chips were stale and one end of the table waited quite a while for salsa to arrive. After placing our order we waited for an unusually long time for it to come out. The tamale was severely under seasoned and the texture was terrible. Not sure what exactly happened to it but it was not good. The waitress was polite and that was the one good thing about it. Not sure if the kitchen staff is being sent home after the lunch rush and maybe this is why the slow service and subpar food but this will be our last visit. read more

One of the most hip restaurants in Tyler! The chips and salsa they bring you have three options with a fire roasted amazing flavor in the darker one, and a more Texan traditional salsa with some salsa verde in it. The lighter color one has more of a spice to it. They were very attentive and we got our chips refilled before we had to flag anyone down. I always get the crispy chicken enchiladas and enjoy them so much. Whenever I get to pick where to get eat, Javi's is one of my number one choices. We have eaten there probably 6 times in the last year. I also find the prices are very reasonable for the phenomenal flavor. I cannot say enough good things about Javi's. I go there 3-4 times a week (Ha I know, I'm slightly addicted). I REALLY LoVe the chips (always fresh and crispy) and I only get the green and red Salsa.
