My family and I went to dinner here on Christmas Eve (tonight). The hostess with black hair and brown eyes (had her hair in a clip) was rude to my mother. When we arrived the hostess said something to my mom and she couldn't hear her and asked the hostess to repeat herself. The hostess acted put off and after taking us to our table, she abruptly put our menus on the table and walked away with an annoyed look on her face. Totally inappropriate... I'm not sure what we did or if it's her time of the month but in no way did we deserve the way she acted toward us. She should not be working with people/customers. No longer dog friendly! We come to Tyler to visit our college son and it's too long of a day to leave the dog at home. Other times we've come to this restaurant it was lovely sitting on the patio, even when it's hot. Well the policy has changed and we didn't know so now we have to sit far to the side and in the sun. The umbrellas only help a little. Our waitress was lovely and the food was good but we won't be back. We understand restaurants have to set policies that work for their guests and we aren't arguing that- we just wouldn't have come had we known ahead the policy changed. read more

I went to Javi's with a few of my friends this week and we had a truly wonderful experience. The atmosphere is a little more upscale than you can often find in Tyler which made me very happy. We started off with their chips and queso and WOW. That queso is SO good. And it's only $5 which is unheard of for an appetizer. We then ordered the blood orange margaritas which blew us away. Everything tasted so fresh. I decided I wanted to get an appetizer for dinner so I ordered the mini brisket tacos. They were the perfect portion and full of flavor. I'm obsessed. I'm Mexican from Southern California,I've always been anti-texmex. I love this place!! The queso is amazing, the guac is super fresh. The chips are yummy and so is the salsa. Their carne asada is so good it's like carne asada and a medium rare steak had a baby. Saul's chicken was delicious and the rice was to die for. Modern tacos were surprisingly tasty. I try to be as honest as possible, and I hope to not offend anybody, but this white washed, Mexican food honestly doesn't have much flavor at all. This is the Mexican place to go If you don't like spicy anything and if smoked flavored stuff this is the place for you. The chips and salsa were definitely a thumbs down. I don't like smoked salsa . the only thing that's really good about this restaurant is the atmosphere and the backyard to take pictures where the turquoise water is with the cute lights, it's more of a photo op restaurant. If you ask me, I personally wouldn't get any food here I like authentic Mexican food not overly priced trying to make it fancy but you take out the flavor. We've enjoyed Javi's twice this month! Early in the month for a wedding rehearsal dinner event in The Treehouse, then celebrating our own wedding anniversary later in the month. Had a large party of 10. We were seated and the place was cold. Asked for a temperature change but it just didn't happen. Our server did a good job keeping our drinks full and constantly checking on us and the food tasted ok. We ordered some carne asada fajitas and they were good but I didn't like the "handmade" tortillas they claimed in their menus because they are not homemade. They are your regular packed store bought tortillas and they tasted just like that. I made sure and asked the server before ordering if they were in fact homemade and she said yes but they are not and they were also cold. After our meals we asked for coffee and the server said that they did not have any coffee. Overall the place is ok but beware. read more

Went there Sat May 25, 2024 at 8 pm the service was terrible! As soon as we sat down the server asked if we were all being on separate checks and she proceeded to tell us about her other table . We asked for another set of salsa and she asked if we could eat the ones on the table ( apparently she didn't understand we wanted fresh salsa) she moaned , complained and made us feel like we were a bother . The food was slightly warm and the cheese was hard. I was in complete shock how terrible in food and the service was all in one. No manager came around. First time to dine at Javi's and I'm sure will not be the last. If you have read any of my reviews, you know that service is very high on my list. 5 Stars for sure in that category!! Very friendly, helpful (for us first timers), and made sure everything was prepared properly and we liked it. Big thick, warm chips and two different salsas to enjoy before your meal, were excellent! Of course a frozen margarita is always a bonus when eating Mexican food !! My wife had the veggie tacos and they were loaded with flavor. Definitely will order them again. I had a burrito. It came with rice and beans, and it was good. Not nearly the flavor of the tacos ! Probably will try another dish next time. The place is decorated that is certainly goes with the Mexican theme. If I could give 0 stars I would. This place is a catfish. There is no Mexican influence at all. All Tex mex and it is horrible. My partner ordered Carne Asadas and it was just skirt steak. Tasted nothing like how it was supposed to and he asked for a medium cook and got well over done. I had the fried chicken enchiladas which is just Chicken flautas with sauce all over it. Which made me sick immediately after finishing all my food! Want yummy at all and made me feel terrible. So you have been warned. Saul S was our server and the kid was lethargic and looked lost without a clue of what to do. We attempted to ask multiple people for our check or refills only to be ignored. Water, chips, salsa were a little slow in coming. I mark that for how busy they were. Ordered queso and it was ok, Papacita's Tyler is the best anywhere around. Ordered carne asada and it was good and cooked per order, tender but not as tender as what you find at Mercados. Salsa reminds me of what you get at abeulos. Small chip bowls. Food has great presentation but this is not your local tex-mex that you may be used to. I wouldn't say gourmet but if you love abuelos and cantina laredo you'll probably like javi's. Finally! Yes, finally a restaurant in Tyler that scores big on all aspects of dining. The food, and especially the service, are second to none. On a handful of visits, we've had the following: Queso Burritos Enchiladas Carne Asada Everything has been excellent, but hands down, the winner is the carne asada. Damn good, with excellent flavor. Margaritas you ask. Damn right, and for about $7-$10, they pack a Patron punch to your liver. Tonight's visit to Javi's was poor, at best. We called 3 times to schedule a reservation but there were no options to do so. Talked to a manager when we got there about the issue and he said he would look into it. We ordered 00 margaritas, they were out. Ordered a wine, they were out. Ordered a second wine, they were out. Ordered a third wine, they were out. Asked the waitress for a menu so we could see other things to order and she could not remember to bring us a menu so we had to go to the bar to get one. They said there was a change in the general manager and they thought that was the problem. We will not be back. Other visits have not been good, but not this bad. Who is in charge?? I tried to email the restaurant to let them know of the issues but there is nowhere on their site to communicate with the restaurant. read more

Had dinner at Javis tonight and we really enjoyed our visit. The food and service were very good, and I'd highly recommend this restaurant for Tex-Mex. This best part about it is that it is locally owned and operated by a woman named Angie!! Angie doesn't own it but, is highly engaged with the operations side and the owner couldn't have a better person helping him run his locations. Mainly the whole waitlist/Yelp! check in procedure. I called to ask about wait times, the hostess let me know the restaurant was not busy but said I should check in and be added to the waitlist on Yelp! I did so. Once arriving to the restaurant I "checked in" and was told my wait time would now start. I asked what the Yelp! check in did and the host let me know it's "pointless because it doesn't matter until you get here."
