Since I was a kid anytime you walked into a bicycle shop in need of a part or service it seems they always were eager to help and 99% of the time were able to. This shop in San Clemente basically has been worthless three times now and I really feel they just don't give a damn. I went into this store yesterday to purchase some items for my bike, as I walked into the store, I was given a stare as I said hi to an employee. A elderly man approached me asking if I had a mask? I could tell right away this was going to be a scolding lesson. I replied, "are you requiring a mask in this store? The old man replied "yes, that is what it says on the door" At this point, I felt best to leave as I got the stare from the rest of the staff. I respect the businesses decision to require a mask at their place of business however, most businesses are not requiring mask or a lot businesses still have the same signs up from when it was mandated to wear a mask indoors. A little friendliness goes along way. I am a local so I try to support our local stores. I left and found another local bike shop that was both friendly and helpful. We all have choices. I will no longer be a JAX customer. read more

I've tried really hard to not write this review because I always want to give local businesses, especially bike shops the best opportunity to provide great service. I would way rather spend my money at a local shop than a big box retailer. I've been a patron of Jax for a while and always had great experience, their retail products are consistently good and their staff was generally knowledgable. This review is based 100 percent on my experience with their repair department. At the end of April I needed a tuneup for my bike so, knowing their backlog due to COVID, I scheduled an appointment for June 3rd and was told it would be a 24 hour turnaround. When I went to drop my bike off the same guy that I scheduled my appointment with couldn't find the appointment in their system and said it would be 3 weeks to check out my bike if I left it that day. I was frustrated but understood that they're busy and people make mistakes so I left with my bike. Later that day I called and got the manager who was gracious, apologized for the mistake and scheduled a new appointment for me on June 24, promised it would be in the system, and told me it would be a 24-48 hour turnaround. I dropped it off on June 24 with the manager and thought it odd I didn't hear anything by the weekend, but gave the benefit of the doubt. On July 1 it had been a full week so I went in person to check on it to see that it hadn't been touched. I was disappointed but the manager was again apologetic and promised it would be done by the end of the next day, Thursday July 2. So today I go in 10 minutes before closing to, once again, see that my bike was sitting there on the rack completely untouched. The manager tried to apologize and said he would make sure it was the first bike done the next morning; however, after hearing the same thing so many times I decided to leave and take my business elsewhere. The part I was probably most disappointed in was that the manager and the bike service guy both apologized but quickly defended it by saying how busy they've been. I get being busy, but if you don't take care of your customers when things are busy then you'll be sad to not have any customers left when things slow down. I'll spend my money somewhere else, as much as it pains me to do so. read more

If you live in San Clemente this should be your go to bike shop. 1) Bob is friendly, knowledgeable, and HONEST, I bought a bike prior to there 10 % off sale and he offered that even though I had already agreed to purchase the bike. 2) I upgraded the handle bars and they gave me a credit on the stock handle bars 3) Close, you have to drive to Laguna Niguel for comparable service / quality brand of bikes 4) all the staff has been very helpful 5) because I say so :) read more

Gone are the days that a bike shop was a bike shop. Jacks won't work on any bike they don't sell even for basic maintenance like a chain replacement, cable replacement. Quite the joke. Tried to do an online-curbside pick up order. the item was in stock in the san clemente store according to the website. they charged my credit card the day after ordering. Day 5 after order, i inquired, they said be patient. Day 7 i inquired, having heard nothing from them they said be patient. they updated the website to say be patient but they also added in stock at the store was 3 - 5 days. I waited 7 days got nothing, but they charged my card!!!! Now I have to fight them for my refund!! Legit business does not charge until it is ready to ship (or pick up in this case) stay away!!! read more

WOW. I experienced today world class service from Jax and Mr Dani Aguilar. I was riding through San Clemente and noticed a back tire issue with my Cervelo road bike. Dani greeted me at the front door with a smile and "how can I help you". He immediately fixed my tire, noticed I needed a new chain and showed me exactly how to properly maintain my bike for continued safe riding. This was my first visit to JAX and will not be my last. I got a small pinhole leak on my back tire of my Ebike in San Clemente, My buddies road ahead to Jax and informed me that they would fix my flat tire while I waited, so I walked the to their store just to be informed by the manager that he couldn't work on an E bike, because he couldn't guarantee a patch. Im very impressed with Cycle Werks, more importantly Hank Inglesia mechanic extraordinaire! He is so easy going and I can be a pain in the butt about my bike tuning expectations. So we have synergy. He works exclusively on my SRAM Red equipped Boardman 9.4 and My Fiance's Cervelo S3. he is well versed on all drive trains and keeping high end bikes running strong. Moreover, he detects potential problems and rectifies them readily. I normally take my race bikes to Nytro in Encinitas, but no more. Hank is as good as it gets, so why go elsewhere? Dropped off my Trek Road Bike on monday morning for a tune up and a new chain and rear cassette. Bike was done by Tuesday afternoon all cleaned up and with some other essential services performed. I am super stoked with how well it rides now. Im really glad this place is so close. I found it interesting that someone complained on here about them only carrying Trek bikes and components. Most of the shops I've ever been into only carry one, maybe two brands of cycles and one is usually a house brand. The same goes for components. It costs money to stock those items. I visit this cycle store every few months. The service is really terrific. I bought a pair of gloves today and after the first ride they began to fray. I took them back and the owner gave me an upgraded pair and apologized for the inconvenience. A Piece Of Werk Last Saturday I was with my biking crew riding my first Century from Anaheim to San Diego. It was a gorgeous ride except for the huge tire gash I got barely 13 miles in. Although patched, air seeped out on the long stretch up to San Celemte. I dismounted and walked up the hill to Cycle Werks. The gentleman I didn't get his name (big ear piercings) at the desk took me in right away and showed me the sturdier Bontrager tires I was looking for. Right away he began the exchange.
