I live in Boulder and have enjoyed this restaurant several times in the past, which is why I reserved a table for 10 for CU graduation weekend brunch. We were celebrating three CU graduates with our family. Unfortunately, this was hands down the worst restaurant experience I have ever encountered. We were seated on time, and our order was taken promptly, but then we sat for an eternity. I eventually had to get up and ask the bartender to help me carry our drinks to the table because they had been sitting on the bar counter ignored. As time passed, our food never arrived. We went to the bar again to order a second drink and asked them to charge it to our table. Meanwhile, we watched the waitstaff deliver endless orders to the outdoor spaces, nearby tables, and to-go patrons. I am still not certain there were restaurant managers, but we finally cornered a man who looked in charge and he turned out to be the HVAC manager; to his credit, he actually listened and tried to help. Eventually, I had to walk over to the kitchen area myself to vent my frustrations and demand a single burger sitting in the window so one of our graduates could eat before they had to leave for there ceremony. When our food finally arrived, multiple items were wrong, but we were too hungry and annoyed to care. While we greatly appreciated the HVAC manager comping our meal, we would have much preferred the lovely, calm celebratory experience we expected. It seemed our table (and maybe 2 other tables next to us ) were having a similar experience. My guess is our orders were pushed to the bottom of the queue in favor of quick turnarounds like walk-ups and to-go orders. The restaurant floor management was completely absent, and there was zero teamwork--bartenders refused to step out from behind the bar to lend a hand. Any minor gesture, like a basket of fries or proactive communication, would have helped, but the staff simply didn't care. I realize it was graduation weekend, but there were plenty of staff on hand and food was being delivered, just not to us. I really don't think I will go back for a long while. They need new management!!!! read more

Almost made it to five star today though it was so busy on a Sunday holiday, Mother's Day that better staffing in kitchen and servers could have managed to get the Eggs Benedict to the table while still warm all the way through. The Hollandaise and eggs were warm but not the meat or English muffin. As for the meat, my husband insisted it was not Canadian bacon as described. It was not thick sliced, his only distinction. It was thin sliced for sure but was lean as bacon and totally smoked. It served well on the balance with the generous egg and hollandaise . I have had many in my life and across this city and this is in the top 5. Wish it had been warmer but still quite tasty. The drinks were priced well for a holiday brunch, my peach Bellini so perfect and my husband's guava version a perfect twist on a classic. A great value at only $11 for quality ingredients. Locals want to hate this place and though I have so many local favorites of long time standing, I can still love this place too as it strives to fit in with a couple of strikes against for just who they are and how they came to be here. Staffing leader today stepped in to help on the floor and she was very positive and professional though I was unable to thank her personally as she was handling multiple servings as we left. So hopefully this will get back to her. Many of their servers are young and maybe students as we have seen in the past, just like every eatery in Boulder! read more

We met friends here for what we thought was a happy hour get-together but it ended up being a dinner where we shared several things. It's not really a good place for happy hour in my opinion. For dinner; however, I would come back. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The food was great and while it wasn't a creative menu it is solid and beautifully presented. It's a bit pricey for what you get. The burgers were very good and the fries delicious. We also shared several appetizers which were served hot and were very tasty. The cocktails were fun and a party for the palate. It's a classy place and nicely decorated. Definitely would go back. read more

This is a beautiful restaraunt in the limelight hotel. They had a nice brunch menu but the food wasn't anything outstanding. My family liked the beignets. The food did take about 45 minutes to come but it was the Sunday after graduation. It is pricy. Maybe the dinner menu is better. Overall though, great ambiance here and the hotel is very nice. read more

We were so excited to try Ajax Tavern on our trip to Boulder since the restaurant itself is beautiful. Unfortunately the experience ended up being pretty mid. Our server was basically non existent. We ordered a beer and a glass of wine and it took 15 minutes for him to return just to tell us they didn't even have the beer. They start you off with focaccia which sounded great in theory but it was cold and so incredibly salty that we couldn't eat it. We ordered the tuna crudo and Caesar salad next. The crudo tasted overwhelmingly like garlic and the salad was just fine. For mains we tried the chicken which was bland and came as two small pieces with no sides. I ordered a harvest salad with steak added. I asked for medium rare but it came out medium bordering on well done. That said the flavors on this dish were actually our favorite of the night. Overall for the price point and level of service I would not recommend it. The menu itself sounds amazing which is why we were so excited to go but the execution was not there. They are still new so hopefully they can make some adjustments because the concept has potential. read more

We stayed at Limelight Boulder and wanted an easy breakfast - Ajax exceeded expectations! Our server Samantha was awesome, very attentive. I got the omelette and fluffy pancake - both delicious. My husband got the yogurt parfait and Rueben - also very good. They serve mimosas and yummy coffee, wish I got more pictures of the food but it was a great and a beautiful restaurant! read more

Go elsewhere for now! Slow service, cold food, incorrect & incomplete orders, and completely unapologetic. With only three other tables, our food took over 75 minutes for the first "round" to come out. Of that, one dish was incorrect, and two were incomplete based the menu description (missing 2 listed items). The last meal was delivered nearly 20 minutes later. Drinks were never proactively managed and without the water on the table, we would have been sitting "dry" for most of the meal. I'm not sure if it was a "new" location, or what was happening, but there was zero proactive attempt to solve any issue or provide any apology or solution. It was NOT a lack of staff as most of them were standing around the pass chatting the entire time we were there. I really had hoped for better and left with no desire to return. read more

We went to Ajax for lunch. We live in the neighborhood and had coupon for $15 off so we thought we would give it a try. Turns out Ajax only serves brunch until 5:00 when they offer a dinner menu. The brunch menu does offer their cheeseburger but it is $27 (good but not worth $27). The server didn't tell us that the coupon was only good for the dinner menu until it was time to pay. The coupon does say dinner but doesn't specify a time. There were only a couple other tables at 12:30 and the restaurant seems doesn't have any kind of buzz. We left with a bad taste in our mouth. read more

We live in the neighborhood and came here for Christmas Dinner. It took over 2 hours before our food came out... and my burger bun was partially frozen when it finally came out. The food here is usually great, but the service is almost always "mid" at best. This was unusually bad, as the server and manager never managed a proper acknowledgment and apology. They did comp the meal, but the ownership of the mistake, and the apology, is worth a lot more to me than the cost of the meal. Shit happens, especially on a busy holiday evening... just own it and don't avoid the tough, maybe embarrassing... but possibly, a totally redeeming conversation. read more
