Jay's Coffee & Cuisine was a pleasant surprise. We stopped in with a group of hungry teenagers, and that's usually the toughest crowd to please. Everyone ordered something different, including the grilled cheese, chicken tenders, and fries, and every plate came back empty. That's about the best review I can give. The food was fresh, the portions were generous, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. It's the kind of place where you can enjoy a good meal without feeling rushed. Swung by this place early am for breakfast before I went to work. They open up at 6:30a. I was one of their first customers this morning. When you walk in, good music playing and ambience is perfect. On our way out of the Peabody hotel in Memphis, we came across the street and located this place as Yelp recommended it. The Peabody hotel does have a deli with coffee and drinks. However, this location was after we checked out so we decided to try it. When I walked in, there were only about five patrons inside and they were all either studying, working, or ordering something,. It took me a while to order because there were so many options on the menu, but I knew I needed breakfast and there were not a lot of pastries available at 1 PM. I ended up ordering the Iced Matcha Latte with butterscotch syrup added, and the breakfast sandwich on a croissant I requested a chicken sausage instead of the pork or bacon or ham options. The person who took my order, said that she highly recommended the House or Home potatoes for my side dish. I went ahead and ordered that as my side upon her recommendation. The weight was about 10 minutes and it was because they actually make it to order. I was able to peruse around and see the place. Take pictures and wait patiently in a very comfortable chair. My food was to go and the gentleman walked it up to me and so did the barista who made my matcha latte on ice with butterscotch syrup added. They were very customer service oriented and I think them both and went to the car. When I got in the car, my food was absolutely hot and too hot for me to eat so I waited a while. My Matcha latte with butterscotch was delicious and I enjoyed it. When we got a few minutes away, I was able to open up the container for my food and this time aired out so that it could get to a temperature where I can enjoy it. I was very frustrated because I did not get chicken sausage as I had ordered. I got regular pork sausage. Also the Home fried potatoes at first bite were delicious, but after the second and third bite, I started to taste old frying oil that they were cooked in. I did not finish my meal and basically wasted it. I still think this is a good place to come and enjoy a nice beverage and possibly a good pastry, but I probably won't be ordering the home fries again nor the chicken sausage croissant. Found this coffee shop/ restaurant while visiting Memphis. It's big and bright with lots of seating. The food menu is expansive. I went with the breakfast burrito (comes with 1 meat but I added an extra) and omg it was so delicious especially paired with the gravy. Came here on a whim- got the chicken biscuit Sammie- the biscuit was kinda burnt and the chicken was small and lacked flavor. Overall it was underwhelming. My friend got the bacon egg and cheese croissant which looked good. Should have tried that instead. Ordered almond lavender latte which was delicious, but would have preferred the option to have it in a mug since I chose the dining in option. In any case, For a late breakfast I orders the breakfast plate (scrambled eggs, grits, chicken sausage, and a biscuit). Despite not being terribly busy and having a full 6 people standing around behind the counter, the food took forever to get. By the time I finally asked for a status I noted my order on their screen had already been 26 min in the making. "It's coming" is what I was told. I love that you can choose how you want your scrambled eggs cooked. I chose loose and they were perfect. The grits were very dense, like dough, which I thought I wouldn't enjoy but they were absolutely delicious, and the biscuit was perfect, The only disappointment was the chicken sausage patty. It was like warm and could have used a few more seconds ion the grill. Overall the food was great, servers were sweet. Next time I'm in Memphis I'll stop in again and try their other offerings.. Previous to today's interaction I truly loved this place. I love locally owned coffee shops. I had racked up almost 200 "points" eating here since they have opened and the food is really good. But today when I went in, the service really threw me off again this is about my 10th maybe more time eating here. I know the people who work here pretty okay and everything. I ordered the breakfast sandwich, over medium egg, now mind you it's not listed , anywhere I see, on the menu an over medium egg is an extra 2 dollars and some change. But after I left to clock into work and come back, after I had already paid, to pick up my breakfast sandwich, the lady who took my order called me over and said it will be an extra charge of 2 dollars and some change for an over medium egg because jay said so. I have gotten an over medium egg before and never had to pay 2 dollars and change after I had already paid for my sandwich and coffee. I truly was shocked. I paid for it but after I did it just didn't sit right with me so I won't be back. Unfortunately because again everyone here was truly so kind and the food is good. But this just left a bad taste in my mouth all together. read more

Yummy breakfast and coffee spot here. I'm glad that this place is here since Tamp and Tap closed. Downtown needs breakfast and coffee spots! I parked on the side of the street but there is a lot right across the street. The cash register is to the far left of the counter which is a bit odd but not impossible to see. I ordered a chicken sausage, egg and cheese on croissant, I chose grits as my side, and a large cookie butter latte. The cashier had a professional demeanor, nothing remarkable. I found a table (they have plenty) and my food and drink came out within 10 minutes. The sandwich was delicious and so were the grits. They were plain but I'm assuming they cooked them in chicken broth because they were very savory and had a nice saltiness to them. Some cheese would have pushed them over the top. I sat there for about 25 minutes eating my food, enjoying the coffee, and reading my book. I think they're still working on decor/vibes since the change from T & T but I didn't mind the minimal decor. I have a new spot the next time I come to Memphis, for sure! Check them out! read more

I visited the Downtown Memphis location during their inaugural event. There was a coupon for free coffee and I got the large cappuccino. For food, I got the breakfast sandwich. It was served with potatoes. Considering the first day crowd, my order come out within 20 minutes. It was nicely prepared that a press photographer ask me if they can take a picture. There was a live jazz band playing. I enjoyed the atmosphere and lounge area is nice. Definitely will return to try the rest of menu items and coffee treats! read more

My experience at Jay's was absolutely wonderful. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with genuine warmth and kindness. Even after realizing I had accidentally placed my online order at a different location, the staff didn't hesitate for a second--they immediately stepped in, reassured me, and took care of everything without making me feel stressed or embarrassed. As I waited for my food, one of the staff members even checked in to ask how my (admittedly complicated!) drink order was, which I thought was such a thoughtful touch--and it tasted amazing. Our order took 40 minutes, and the place wasn't crowded. I paid extra for coffee ice and let me know after I ordered that they were out. They were out of whipped cream too and put a dime size squirt in my drink. They were out of bacon egg bites and substituted. It took 20 minutes to just get our drinks. I asked about our sandwiches , and I was told the chef was gone at the moment. We got outside with our bag and it was missing one order. The food was good, but I will never come back. This little spot has it all working! Open for just a few weeks but you would think they had been there for years. Service is good and food and coffee are fantastic.
