We're in the area, and stopped for lunch, before continuing the rest of our errands. Hubby picked it! It's new, modern, the menu was easy to order from. We thought the food was good. No utensils, except the knife perched on my hamburger! Plenty of napkins! We ordered: Hayden Island Burger with fries, without the onions. My first cheese burger in a long time (I forgot to ask him to put it on the side). And hubby had the Breaded Chicken Wings with BBQ sauce. Side order Onion Rings. The wings were big and tasty, I thought, it should be cooked longer, and the onion rings could have been in a bit longer, too. Restrooms were clean. Food is mostly fried so if that is what you like then you are in for a treat. I had the Hawaiian Slides, which featured grilled chicken, and I enjoyed them. I ordered cheese sticks, called Cheese Rods in this building. They were meh. The fries I ordered, and was almost charged for, never came out. So, I can't rate them... maybe next time. This place mainly serves thigh meat. What?! I'm a white meat eater only, but there were a couple items that had white meat. One being chicken tacos. They were fabulous!!! We went in thinking that someplace called "JayBee's Chicken Palace" would have amazing chicken. Imagine my disappointment when we got an extra large bar that served middling chicken tenders. The interior was polished pine, floor to ceiling. The decor was "bar, but make it cowboy." It felt less like a palace and more like a barn with aspirations. I was initially excited by the idea of the fried chicken thigh pieces but when I bit into them I felt the urge to apologize to the chicken. They were unsalted, unseasoned, and the breading was bland. The chicken tenders were just okay, as we're the fries. The onion rings were the only saving grace here. On the plus side, the service was excellent. The young woman who served us was apparently new, but we probably wouldn't have known if her trainer hasn't said something. read more

Well, a palace it was not! However it was an easy in and out on our way to a Portland event. The place was spacious, comfortable and full of regulars on a Sunday night. The waitress was friendly, efficient and the food pleasantly presented. Two of us had burgers and two had chicken sliders on Hawaiian rolls. The food was excellent and cooked to our liking! The bar- in a separate space was crowded. A few pinball machines, a separate Lottery/casino space were available in the restaurant. The restroom was in serious need of service, and though we noticed several waitstaff were in and out- nothing was swept and the paper towels not refilled ( eek... did they even WASH their hands?) Came to see what the rumors were all about. Walked in with family and stood there for 10 min. Not a single person was around, asked if we had been helped, or sat us. Man came out finally and I asked if we could sit anywhere, he stared at us and ignored us. I asked again where we can order and sit and he continued to stare at us then went back to back. You can opt for a Caesar salad on the side if you really feel the need for a veggie, but again, that's not what this place is all about. Are you thirsty? This place is also a bar! Alcohol and fried stuff, as natural a pair as the Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. The service is always good, they really are interested in giving you a good experience. I've tried the sandwich, the tenders and this last visit the spicy tenders. The spicy tenders were amazing! The tots and fries are tasty and salted just right. The only thing that matters is the food is trash. You can taste how old and dirty the oil is. Got the Glen Fry with tots, Thigh master with rings and an an order of the tendies. EVERYTHING was foul. The buns were dry and crumbly. The lettuce was brown. We picked at the sandwiches but could not eat much. And the tendies tasted spoiled. I was so excited to try this place. A few friends and I decided to stop in to check the place out because I had heard good things about their chicken awhile back. Immediately walking in the vibe was a little off, but we decided to stick it out. After sitting down our waitress came over and asked if she could get anything started for us to drink. After my friend asked about the beers, she asked for our IDs (expected, we're all young), and immediately started interrogating my friend on why he hadn't gotten a new updated ID. She then proceeded to interrogate me and ask if we worked for OLCC and if this was a sting operation because our IDs looked "suspicious". I gave her another form of ID I had on me and she proceeded to take all four IDs to the back to get double checked. After clearing everything up, she apologized and took our drink orders. The food came out and it was good, but you can tell they don't change their fryer oil as often as they should. After finishing up I took my time to drink water because I wanted to be 100% sure and safe that I could drive. The waitress brought our receipt and said she'd be back in a little bit for payment. After ten minutes of waiting, I told my friends I was going to use the restroom really quick. Within the 2 minutes I was in the restroom, our waitress came up to the table and confronted my friends saying along the lines,"okay you guys I'm really slammed so I can get you guys at the counter or what's going on." in an off putting tone. After coming out of the bathroom and visibly seeing my friends irritated I asked what happened within the two minutes I wasn't present. They told me the encounter and I quickly went to the counter to pay. The waitress went back to trying to be overly nice and helpful. It's very rare I don't leave a 20% tip when I eat out, but last night I didn't tip. I'll never be back to this establishment. This place is the old Hooters, my wife and I thought we would give it a try. Let's just say.....HARD PASS next time we are in the area. They just opened so the menu is very limited. Thigh meat sandwiches and nuggets. Im not a big fan of dark meat but the cook and spices here amplified the chicken to perfection. I loved my sliders! We stopped here on our trip to the Pacific northwest only because of their huge sign on I-5 northbound just before going over the bridge into Vancouver, Washington. I had the fried chicken (thigh) sandwich and it was average size and very tasty. Bartender was very nice as we sat at the bar for lunch. Very clean restaurant/restrooms and plenty of indoor seating. There is very small casino in the back for those that like to gamble. There is a nightclub on the other side so don't turn around if you see a "no minor" sign as you walk to the building from the parking lot. read more

Not a palace, just a place. No welcoming feeling at all. The sign for this place is huge and boasts that they take pride in chicken. There was no sense of pride in the atmosphere as I came in to pick up my order 5 minutes early. Not very busy, so I sat at the bar and watched football for about 10-15 minutes when my order was called. This place seems like it's a hangout for locals, with decent but not great food like I had hoped. Love boneless, skinless chicken thighs , so thought this was going to be awesome, but it was Just par for the course. I'd been excited about the Chunky Dunkies for weeks and a bit underwhelmed by them. The Glen Fry was pretty good, but there wasn't much special about it. Honestly I made fried chicken thighs last night at home that were equal, if not better, and I don't know what I'm doing. Not worth the drive over the bridge. No white meat, which is my fav. $12.00 for a sandwich which is pricey as that's al-La-cart... chicken was fatty. A couple bites, so much so, I had to spit out fat in a napkin. No local Oregon wines, only self serving plastic bottle options. This island NEEDS GOOD restaurants. With great regret and heavy disappointment this isn't close to "great!"
