I have an abiding love of dive bars, even when I should know better. And believe me, I know literal salt miner bar (no, I am not misusing literally, a bar that opens early for salt miners) that is less divey than this. Drink selection is limited, but dirt cheap. The atmosphere was...interesting. At happy hour time you had gin blossomed middle aged guys aplenty already a few rounds in shouting at the horse races on TV, while the two guys at the bar next to me discussed the merits of buying premium booze if you are destined for alcoholism. I had heard heard good things about the food, and found out that Wings were All You Can Eat for $9. I'm a stickler, so they were only average at best, but if you're in a group quantity is a quality all its own. In short, it's not a place to take a date...or anyone you want to impress for that matter. But there are days when you just want to revel in being dingy, and this is the perfect place for that. read more

They have a wide selection of food that is pretty decent and also pretty cheap if you come for lunch! Their drinks are not expensive. And I guarantee you can make a friend or two anytime you come in. I just had to add my thoughts on Jay's. There are no better wings to be found than those at Jay's, and nothing washes down those wings better than a $6 pitcher of High Life/MGD or a ice, cold Labatt Blue. Having moved away from the area, I make it a point to visit Jay's virtually every time I am back in South Jersey to enjoy some hot wings with a side of suicide sauce. Completely lacking in pretentiousness, Jay's is what it is: a neighborhood bar with cold beer and great food. Oh yes a dive bar indeed. I've wanted to come here since like forever ago. I finally convinced my girlfriend to go (girls these days not wanting to go dive bars, see what I've gotta put up with?) Anyway, we finally made it, which explains why I am writing this review. We walked in and Led Zep was on the jukebox! Already we were both happy since we are huge fans. We opted for hot wings and cheesesteaks (chicken and beef). I think they had Coors specials, but if I wanted piss in a cup, I would've stayed home. Instead we both ordered the Anchor Christmas Ale, only $4.25 a pop. NOT BAD! We checked out the jukebox selection which is AWESOME by the way. Our wings came out first and were great! The sandwiches were good as well. Their prices aren't bad either. We dropped around $30 for everything we got. The only crappy part is that you only get one song for a dollar on the jukebox. A little bit of a rip off if you ask me, but it's a small price to pay for a place with good food, cold beer, and awesome music. Pay them a visit! read more

It's a dive bar. So take it for what it is. But, I love dive bars so I'm biased. The place was clean. The menus were wiped. The bathrooms were spotless. My combo platter of fried delights was perfect (for friend delights). The combo of my choice was a large basket of fried zucchini, jalapeno poppers and chicken fingers. It came with salsa, horseradish sauce and honey mustard. $9.50. Not bad. The food menu is extensive and cheap. Their tap beer/ beer selection was amazing for a "dive bar." The service was excellent with waitresses walking around both inside and on the deck asking if everything was okay and if I needed anything else... oh, and they have a pool table. There's something charming about a place that has no redeeming qualities, and they're pretty proud of that. That's something I can admire. The interior dates back to the 80s, the food couldn't be any more fried if they tried, and the patrons couldn't be any more random from the old timers to the bimbos drinking shooters. What I like is nobody bothers you at this place if you want to be left alone. But if you're in the mood to chat up the person next to you, they won't give you a nasty look. This dive bar has been around for a few generations. The world around it keeps changing, but luckily Jay's is a timeless classic. good bar food, friendly bartenders, a small deck, and juke box. This place is well known to other waiters/bartenders who visit after leaving their place of work.. You could be hanging out at 11:45 with not much of a crowd and then at 12, it could be wall to wall people.. Dive bar delight. It looks old and dirty but closer inspection reveals its just old. The pay phone near the bathroom was a marvel to see even if there was no dial tone. Being from Rhode Island all the dudes looked like extras from a Kevin Smith movie to me but the girls looked cute enough especially if you still like big hair. Had a great time drinking till almost three am on a Thursday morning. This place was probably dangerous at one point but now I'd venture it's just an experience. 10/10 would bang. read more

Gave 3 stars for the decent wings and very cheap lunch specials. Would give eddy the bartender 6 stars if available, one of the best around and knows everything about sports. Would give the interior 1 star, no improvents since opening, but seen they now have a enclosed deck i havnt been in. All in all, a most stop for lunch. read more

Yes things are falling down, missing and paint chipped everywhere. It clearly states 'Dive bar'! There was rock and country music playing. Pool tables, trivia and a Ms Pac-Man game. I've been to Jay's several times over the years, and before Saturday night all I could say is that it is a little hole-in-the-wall bar, with decent food. It's usually very crowded and sometimes getting served can take a little while--and maybe a little elbowing people out of the way to get to the bar. However, Saturday night I saw the rudest and most irresponsible service I ever witnessed at any establishment. I guess the staff forgot to do last call and the guests had lost track of time. So the server came around and took our drink orders, and then brought them to us a couple minutes later, saying "Last call. You guys gotta chug those and go. We're closing. " Never in my life has a server or bartender TOLD me to chug my drink. And to take my money for a drink and then not even give me the time to drink it? And then the parking lot was full of kids trying to sober up so they could drive after quickly downing their last drinks. And the whole time people were leaving (which took a while, as the bar was quite crowded, and guests were getting rowdy, angry from being treated so rudely) the staff--and some other people I'm assuming were friends of the staff--was screaming at everyone to leave, and even slapped a drink out of someone's had. Before that experience, I only ever really went to Jay's if a friend was there or something. But it never gave me anything to complain about, and it is what is is for a little dive bar with no windows. But after Saturday, not only am I not going back, but I had to complain to the police for what I think is a dangerous use of a liquor license. Jay's is a quality neighborhood dive bar in an area that's pretty upscale and snobby. Good bar food (fries are great) and cheap beer. Some of the clientele can be a bit gamy, but that's just part of the charm. You can strike up a conversation about pro wrestling on most nights with the guy next to you. read more
