The own rolled the dress in a ball handed it back to me, and said, buy a different dress!! She said, It has too many ruffles it can't be done and she showed me the door!! They are NOT GOOD! It is now Yooni Tailoring and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the new owner can be very rude.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's also hit or miss on whether or not they will do the alterations correctly. I had several items that needed to be taken in. Half of them I had to return and one pair of pants I had to throw out since there was no fixing them after what they did. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Another pair they never even touched and when I told owner this, she tried to tell me I had never brought them in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This place used to be great but it's not anymore with the new owner. With the prices they charge and the rudeness, they are lucky I gave them two stars. Just discovered there is a 5-star alterations business within walking distance from Jay's (Yooni) that I'm going to try next. read more

I was VERY UNHAPPY with the pricing, the work and the attitude ! I brought in two dresses that needed alterations . When I asked them the cost they said they were not sure yet and would call me .. THEY NEVER DID ! I went to pick then up two weeks later and they actually handed me a bill for 380 dollars ! I was SHOCKED !! I tried the dresses on and it was poorly sewn ! They had to redo it three times while I waited to get it right ! They think since they are in Barrington they can rip people off ! I WOUld NOT SUGGEST GOING THERE ! Nor would I ever return ! Was recommended by the place we purchased a prom dress. Went there and they were friendly, but were not very helpful and in fact they were rude once my daughter walked out of the dressing room. The person wasn't helping us zipper up the dress . Dress was picked up and tried on 2.5 weeks ago and it zippered . We were having issues, and the person helping us essentially called my daughter fat. But yet as soon as some rich Barrington guy came in, she left and grabbed a second person and they bent over backwards for him. If I could give zero stars, I would. Update: went to a different seamstress and she was able to zipper it up . Was told that most likely this place didn't have the skill to work with such an intricate item so they went the fat shaming route. read more

Rude.... And outrageously over priced! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Yooni, the new owner, was incredibly rude to me when I came to pick up over $150 worth of alterations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She brought out my dresses, a blouse and 2 skirts, she piled them in a lump on the counter while she gave me the total. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I asked why they weren't all on hangars (as they were brought in) Yooni snapped and told me "who cares, you clean and press after"[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The tailor at Jays has been exceptional. Major adjustments were needed on several suit and sport jackets due to a significant weight loss. The work was perfect, the fit perfect. And they returned the jackets in less than 2 weeks. This is not the first excellent experience. But it was the most extensive adjustments. My son took his Army uniform in to have 4 patches put on. The patches were not placed as requested and crooked. The worst part is that he was charged $160 to sew 4 patches! I brought in 2 dresses to have made in to skirts. It seemed pretty clear cut but they insisted that putting in new shorter zippers was too much and elastic waistbands would work. When I argued that I wouldn't be able to pull the skirts over my hips with the zipper area sewn shut she dismissed this and said it would be easy with the elastic. When I picked up the skirts they both can not be pulled over my hips, which honestly seems like something even a person with basic tailoring experience should have known. I am giving them a slightly better rating than I think is fair because I am not going to bother bringing them back to try and fix, quite honestly I just don't think they understand how zippers and skirts work and I'm better off just finding a different tailor. read more

I had a blouse taken in and was not at all pleased. The blouse was still baggy, the inside seams were uneven and the thread was loose and messy. In addition, when I received my blouse back, it was not even pressed. So disappointed. read more

Visiting my husband's family for christmas holiday and his jacket's zipper broke. It's an expensive and nice jacket. I found Jays on yelp and saw a review that they turn around quickly. Jay's doesn't do dry cleaning - TAILORING ONLY - Now I know why - they focus on what they do best - truly excellent fine tailoring. First time I've used Jay's Tailoring based on Stacey D's recommendation. I had an unexpected business trip next day. Called Victoria night before,, told her needed two suits altered and I was in a pinch, was leaving at 1pm next day. I expected her to say not a chance. She said we'll do our best - arrived at 9am next morning when they opened. Victoria was ready and went to work right away. I really only expected and needed only one suit to be done. Both suits ready right at noon as promised - amazing job! Pants hemmed & cuffed, sleeves hemmed & buttons moved, Pant waist & seat let out as requested. I'm particular. Here's why Jay's / Victoria "get" how to do men's tailoring - Victoria knows the difference between a "Modern" Men's Suit Sleeve Hem" (shows a bit more shirt cuff for French cuff shirts) and "Traditional" length (shows less cuff for regular shirt cuffs). I wear French Cuffs, she got the length spot on without telling her. I also wear pants with cuffs - she got that spot on as well. Pricing? You get what you pay for - not lowest around - not highest. As Stacy D. said, you get what you pay for. For speed, accuracy and expertise they provide - prices are most certainly fair. PS - On my biz trip, suit sleeve button got caught in plane arm rest - tore button and bit of sleeve - brought it in for repair - Victoria said go ahead and run your errands, come back in a bit and it'll be ready - it was! GET AN EXACT PRICE BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE SHOP. Had a formal dress altered; top of dress covered in a beaded applique (not hand-beaded, an applique that can be easily cut). After doing the fitting and marking, I asked the woman how much. She said she wasn't sure because of the beading. Based on past experience with other tailors in the Barrington area and on what we were having done to the dress (small area hemmed, dress taken up at shoulders) I assumed $50. When I arrived to pick up the dress today the total was $75!! When I expressed that I thought that was a bit high for the work done, the woman again said it was because of the beading but she would make it $70. We chose Jay's because our normal tailor, Barrington Tailor Shop, wasn't open on the only night my high schooler could go get fitted. I highly recommend Barrington Tailors; fair, give price up front, and have never had an issue. I completely regret making this choice and will be sure to share my experience with other mothers who will be needing dresses altered over the next few years. read more

I purchased a new suit, and after reading the reviews of this establishment, decided to have the alterations done here. What a MISTAKE. While the suit was delivered when promised, it wasn't until I got home and was dressing for a special night out, when I discovered that I must be traveling into a flood plane, or my legs grew. The suit pants were cuffed (I prefer a traditional appearance) but were TWO inches too short. Needless to say I became irate as I now had to find pants to wear that went with the coat. Life getting in the way, I was unable to return to address the issue until just the other day. I told the woman who initially fit me, that there was a problem. She said "let me see" so I put the pants on and she measured them saying "they're two inches short". Brilliant..... She told me she could lengthen them, but I would love see the cuff. I wasn't happy, but trying to get an extra pair or pants that matched the suit (even from the manufacturer) would prove to be costly. I left the pants, returning 3 days later to retrieve them. Now... here's the corker... She CHARGED ME to repair her mistake!!!! I paid the $13 for the alterations, vowing to find a tailor that measures twice and cuts once, not the other way around. Don't waste your time or money going to Jay's. There's a European tailor further down the street... read more

I had a very bad experience with thisTailor. I brought two men's suits to be fitted as my husband had lost weight. We were quoted a price of 330 dollars which was very high. However, we needed it done and they had been recommended. When we picked up the suits one jacket had sleeves way too short. The woman who worked there remeasured and took the jacket. She then told us it would be an additional fee! We questioned the charge as we had already paid an enormous amount to get the suits refitted. I hope they enjoyed the additional fee because they lost a customer. read more

I brought in a formal dress to have alterations. The woman who was taking care of me was not very nice. She made me feel that I was bothering her to have this done. I should have walked out, but I read good reviews about this place. She gave me a quote of $55 and said it would be ready in a week. The next week when I went to pick up the dress, there was no one in the front of the store. After waiting, the same woman came out just as a young lady walked in with a uniform that they didn't fix right. For some reason I was ignored, and the girl who walked in after me was taken care of first. I tried on my dress, but didn't see how it looked until I got home. There are no mirrors in the dressing room, and the young girl was using the only mirror that was available. The dress darts did not line up right, but I couldn't see that without a mirror in the dressing room. I was also charged $60, which was more than I was told when I dropped the dress off. There are many tailors in the area that I will use for future work! One star given not only for their work, but also for the "not so happy to help" woman working there! read more
