I have been visiting Zim in his shop since this spring for a variety of alterations, including hemming dress pants, adjusting sport coats/blazers/suit jackets, installing buttons on different garments, etc. Zim and his team's work has been on point every time: precise, durable, and very clean. They make suggestions based on their experience when I ask for advice, but they also listen to my input, and will even often advise against certain alterations even if it means less money for them. I should have written this review MONTHS ago.... I suck and I'm sorry. But, PEOPLE need to know about this place and this owner so it's better late than never. I purchased a dress from Macy's for a formal Christmas party for my boyfriend's job. The one at the store had a stain (of course) and it was the LAST one in my size (because that's just the way my life is when I NEEEED something). The lady at the register said they could order me one and have it shipped to my house. I said YAAAAAAS...and it was going to get to my house JUUUUST in time. (The party was less than a week away....nothing like a little procrastination to get the blood flowing!) The dress arrived and I thought nothing about trying it on with the shoes I bought because I knew that it fit perfectly at the store. So.... PLOT TWIST... I try it on the DAY.OF. the event...and it's about 70 feet too long. I. I'm not even kidding. Even with my tallest pair of heels (6 inches) the dress was still like an infinite amount of fabric that seemed to be growing by the minute....there was no way I could wear that dress. I had no backup plan other than just die. I found this tailor via the lifesaver known as google and I called them on a whim and I explained my situation in a voice that could only be described as OMGPLEASEHELPMEILLGIVEYOUALLMYMONEY. And Zim, was so calm and was like yeah not a problem come on down. So I did. We had exactly 7 hours before the event was supposed to start. I went down there and had a panic attack and he was this cool calm cucumber. He said, when do you need it by? I squeaked... can you get it done in 5 hours? Well of course he said yes and then said he would have it done in 3. And he did. Actually he had it done in like 2.5 hours. AND IT WAS PERFECT. The dress looked amazing. I cried like a baby. Which wasn't at all awkward for me..... but seriously... he pulled through like a freaking champ. GO HERE. GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. JUST DON'T DO WHAT I DID. BECAUSE IT'S STRESSFULLLLLL. read more

Do not recommend. I walked in to get a dress tailored. I thought I would be going in for a pleasant experience, but was mistaken. Owner was with another customer, looked at me, did not acknowledge me at all. I stood waiting for at least 5 minutes as he would look at me and continue talking to the other customer. I wouldn't do business with an establishment that gives preferred treatment to certain "people". Tailor Needle and Thread is a unicorn. They have good prices and great craftsmanship. I am used to ordering made to measure suits. I then discovered that off the rack fits me just as well with minor alterations. The things that I love about made to measure are the shorter length of sleeves that leaves just enough of the shirt showing and the functional buttons. I accidentally found Needle and Thread because I was working in the burbs. Once I found out they can put in functional buttons, I took all of my old suits and had them put in. There is nothing like taking an old suit and having functional buttons put in. It's like having new suits that are as good as a made to measure or a bespoke suit. Owning suits that look good and fit well is worth the alternation. I have taken at least 7 suits and countless pants to Needle and Thread for alternations and the quality has always been great. I have even taken an overcoat and leather jacket. This is definitely a unique alternation shop that can do everything to really make all your clothing looks custom. Guys, having a proper length on sleeves and having functional buttons on suits can really make the suits worth wearing. read more

Needle and Thread is a superb tailor. I have worked with tailors around the world and had several custom suits made in London and Hong Kong. Late last year, I went Keto and dropped 30 pounds. The perfectly tailored suits hung on me like a scarecrow lol. Not sure if I worked with Jimmy or Zim, but they first went through probably 10 suits and recommended a few be tossed because they were out of style or couldn't be tailored to match the previous fit for one reason or another. On the suits that they DID tailor, they fit perfectly. So much so, that when I picked up two more suits today I didn't even bother to put them on. I could tell that Mr. Dalipi would have preferred I do so that he could verify his work, but I know it would be good. When I got home, that in fact was the case. Bottom line, not only are they top craftsmen in their trade, but they are honorable men who recommended I not tailor suits which would not be worth the expense. Money out of their pocket, but the right thing to do. And speaking of money, their prices are very fair, particularly with space in Woodfield mall which can't be cheap. I found them through Nordstrom, who recommended them highly and said they refer all of the work they don't feel comfortable doing...and Nordstrom themselves are pretty good at what they do. One more comment...I had dropped off two suits sometime around March before this Covid nonsense and picked them up today, September 30th...almost 6 months. Prior to that, I had been in their shop twice. When I went in, I explained to Mr. Dalipi that I had lost the ticket from March. He didn't say a word, but went into the back room and retrieved both suits. Didn't ask my name or phone number. I am in business and have to remember names and its hard after only a meeting or two. Six months later? Forget it. I also told him I didn't remember if I had paid for the work, and he assured me I had. Anyway, well played Gentlemen. May you both live long and prosper! read more

I came here because Nordstrom tried to screw me over on getting my pants tapered. I'm so glad i came here because the work that Zin did was phenomenal. I had 5 pair of designer pants tapered to fit my style. He was very reasonable with the price and offered to go a little lower than what Nordstrom was offering me. He advised it would take a week to get done but he got it done a day earlier than promised. I tried all of the pants on and only 1 of them was too tight. This was most likely due to the material of the pants. He told me to take the pants off and he would fix it on the spot. 5 minutes later it was perfect. Dropped off prom dress for hemming. They prioritize their work according to the prom date which is fair for everyone and allows some accommodation for late comers. They hemmed a satin dress with a lot of flow for $75. Some kids that were dropping off their dresses the same day had coupons but I don't know how they got them. I wanted my dress long, but the lady that measures me suggested that It's better to have my dress off the ground or it'll be hard to walk in, so she'll make it 1/2 inch off the ground. I have had several blazers and a couple of suits altered here and they always do a great job. I have an athletic build and require almost all jackets to be re-cut. If I buy a suit, the pants need major work too as my waist is much thinner than the typical "drop" even slim suits have.
