I was pleasantly surprised by the food and service that I enjoyed at Jazmine Cafe this week. I've walked and driven past this restaurant time and time again, but never really gave it a second thought. I haven't heard anyone talk about it - good or bad - so it wasn't ever really on my radar. With a location like it has right smack dab in the heart of the beautiful riverbend area, it's just weird that no one has ever brought it up. Well, I was nearby so I walked over and gave it a try. Upon arrival I was greeted warmly and seated. Menus were dropped off and my drink order was taken. They serve all of the basic Vietnamese dishes you're used to seeing. I ordered grilled pork vermicelli and after a brief wait it was delivered to me. The portion was generous and the flavor was excellent. The pork was sweet and lean too. Was pleasantly surprised by this place on carrolton. My friend who is a regular here always gets the poke bowls and swears by them. They definitely look super appetizing! Came here on a Wednesday afternoon, and there place was empty. The server took my order, which was vegetable summer roll and tofu po-boy. The summer roll was surprisingly bland, even the dipping sauce was bland. I asked if the tofu was fried, and the server said yes. It was lightly fried and unseasoned. I had never had a bland tofu Vietnamese po-boy. The server was nice which is why I didn't give the place one star. read more

Just left here for lunch. Ordered the stuffed jalapeños that were swimming in grease and tasted like a ball of salt. Asked the waitress if I could get something else instead. She responded that they don't let you get something else just because you don't like what you ordered. I said well it's greasy and doesn't taste good and she said, "That's the policy." Sweet heat noodles. And stuffed crepes on a Sunday night. This was my very first restaurant on my very first night in NOLA. ...and I hit it TWICE in four days. Just sayin.' My gluten-free babe and I had planned a four day eating tour of the Big Easy... but that was before we got here. (See my review of HJ Airport in Atlanta, just to set the mood for what I felt like by the time we got to NOLA.) No, I don't like the looks of that place. Nope. (According to my sweetie, that's what I'd been saying as we walked down Carrollton.) We started with some Sapporo (I know, Japanese beer at a Vietnamese restaurant...), but it hit the spot. Next came the house soup, which was glass noodles, shredded lettuce, onions, cilantro, in chicken broth. Very tasty if not a bit thin, but it really helped to start clearing out the pressure in my ear. AND it was tasty. And hot. And salty. But not too salty. And crunchy. Yes... My sweetheart got the Banh Xeo, a rice crepe stuffed with pork, shrimp, beansprouts and onions, along with some romaine lettuce, cilantro, and pickled carrots. I opted for the Pho Xao, their "Sweet Heat Noodle" that came with shrimp, chicken, beansprouts, onions, cilantro and coarsely-chopped peanuts over vermicelli noodles. WOW. Sweet. With just the mildest after-burn. I really, really enjoyed the flavors of this one! I probably can't say enough good things about this restaurant. I have heard mixed reviews about this place so why not give it a shot. They have added poke bowls to their menu so when a coworker and I stopped in for lunch we both decided to try one. This place looks much bigger from the outside. Service was pretty slow during lunch...hence the 4 stars and not 5. I ordered the ultimate poke bowl which pretty damn fantastic. I ate here a lot as a Tulane student because they took nolabucks, but that was pretty much the only reason. The food is ok; nothing more, nothing less. If you're craving Vietnamese food, it does the job. I've gotten their curry chicken, sweet heat noodle, grilled pork/summer roll/grilled chicken vermicelli, grilled shrimp/pan fried tilapia rice, spicy lemongrass noodles, and mushroom glass noodles. Of these, I would recommend the vermicelli noodles; everything else has been hit or miss. Also, not sure if they still offer it but I've also gotten hot pot here and it was not great. read more

I like this place! My friend and I tried a bunch of things. The best thing is the selection of fresh fish spring rolls. The spicy tuna was my favorite and all the fish was fresh. I loved the flavor in the poke bowl and their snow crab has good flavor with not too much mayo. Unimpressed! First of all, my boba drink was super icy. Even when it melted there were huge chunks of ice. Also, I got my food delivered and my vermicelli came with no fish sauce, instead this odd peanut sauce. I also specifically requested light noodles and extra veggies and they ignored that request because I had to take out over half of the noodles! They definitely do not put enough of everything else to balance it out. I got the tofu avocado vermicelli but although I love avocado, it was really strange having it in vermicelli, and again the peanut sauce threw everything off. Very disappointed! read more

It consisted of shredded cabbage, sliced chicken breast, carrots, cucumber, onion, cilantro, fried shallots and peanuts. The fried shallots were really a nice addition to this delicious salad. The dressing served with the salad was a vinaigrette. It was very good. Instead of chicken, you can opt for tuna or shrimp. This place also has tons of spring roll options such as Salmon Mango, Tuna Avocado and Lemongrass Chicken. They also have Vietnamese Po-boys, Pho, Noodle Salad Bowls and Rice dishes. On my way back from the Zoo, I called in to place my order. I asked the person that was taking my order how long will it take and to call me once it was done since I will be in the car with my sleeping nephew. Twenty four minutes later no call so I called to asked. I was told they are packing my food and he apologized. It was lunch time so I understand. The food smell so good on the drive home. If anyone follows me on Yelp, I always order Bun Bo Hue from ever Asian restaurant that I stop by. With that being said, I got an order of Spicy Lemongrass 6 soup ( Bun Bo Hue ), Sesame Steak rice plate ( Com Bo Luc Loc and the Jazmine Seafood noodle. The spicy lemongrass noodle soup was not spicy at all and there was no taste of lemongrass. They gave us a huge portion of the vermicelli noodle but very little soup , Their BBH tasted more like beef stew. I end up trashing some which I really don't like to waste food. The Sesame Steak was tender but very bland and the fish sauce that came with it was more like water down fish sauce. The Jazmine Seafood noodle was stir fried udon noodle with seafood and mushrooms. It taste better then the other two but I would not say it was the best. The house soup we got for the lunch special was ok if you like cabbage. read more

Do you see how many checkins I have? This spot has my go to soup when I'm sick, the tamarind tofu, my picky youngest niece's favorite soup, the kid's chicken noodle (which has broth, chicken and rice noodles and that's it). And enough variety to feed whomever else I'm with. The lunch banh mi and soup deal is a good one. And the tofu/avocado bowl is still a favorite. The noodles were ok maybe the entire dish over done..the shrimp were like a rock and the chicken was just plain bad. As in old. I called the restaurant back to let them know the chicken was bad and they said "we sell alot of chicken, maybe you don't like" I said again your chicken I'd bad, it taste old. I am guessing since they were closed on Monday they were stretching the left over chicken from the weekend...One dish was $20.00. I would give it a 3 1/2 if yelp had that option. The chicken pho is consistent enough and that's what I usually get. I recommend it. I also like the Vietnamese chicken salad. The beef pho ain't bad either. It's consistent too but there are other places that do it a little better. The menu is almost too big. They are really into their spring roll bar and have a full page of different kinds. The inside of the place reminds me of a hotel restaurant in some other city, definitely not New Orleans. The prices are a big plus and it's close to my house too so I may be a little biased. If you like chicken pho and a good Vietnamese chicken salad , try this place out. Although I'm very picky with my Asian food (being Filipino-American), the beef pho (added meatballs) was good with big portions. The eggrolls were also yummy. Surprisingly, it was the spring rolls (caterpillar and I forgot the other one) that were mighty tasty! One of them had crab meat with alternating mango and avocado slices. It was delicious! The other one was yellowtail which was ok. What stands out to me is that the service was amazing! I had three waiters (Peter the manager, Anthony, and Linh) who were responsive and efficient. A friend and I decided to eat here, as I had passed this place many times and really didn't know anything about it, other than it is a Vietnamese restaurant. I got here around 1 and the place was empty, except for one guy sitting alone and eating a bowl of Pho. The menu sounded so good! They have a HUGE selection of spring rolls of all types. I could definitely see myself just making a meal out of 3 spring roll orders, but today I just decided to try the spicy salmon spring roll. I also got a pork noodle bowl salad, because I was trying to keep it a little bit light. The spicy salmon spring roll was so good! It was unique in the sense that I don't think I have ever had anything like it. It's raw salmon and vermicelli wrapped with some sriracha. It had a lot of kick and was really good after I added a bit of soy sauce to it. The noodle bowl was large and delicious. There were large slices of pork on top of a generous amount of noodles, lettuce and cucumber. It was the perfect meal for a warm September day. I really enjoyed my lunch here. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about a Vietnamese food place that also serves sushi, I have to say that I was impressed. I haven't tried the sushi (still a little gun-shy), but the Vietnamese food has been flavorful, hitting all of the sweet, savory, sour, spicy notes as they should. The sliced grilled pork with rice has just the right amount of carmelized, sweet/savory goodness, with a touch of garlic. The veggies are crunchy, and the rice is hot and sticky. You still feel light after this meal, but it's filling. If I had to choose, I liked the grilled pork over rice more than the grilled pork with vermicelli noodles (bun). The pho tai has a deep broth and you're given plenty of basil leaves and cilantro, as well as all the slice jalapeno and bean sprouts you need. Served piping hot whether you eat at the restaurant or take out, the soup is comforting, flavorful, and filling. The service is extremely friendly, and you never have to wait long. If you enjoy bubble tea, there's a decent selection -- I'm excited to try the watermelon slush once the weather warms up. See pic. read more

I've eaten here and had delivery a few times. It's a good place to go by yourself for lunch, I probably wouldn't go by myself for dinner. Recently, I had my food delivered to me, and the girl on the other end of the phone was really patient with me telling me what they had on their menu because they don't have one online, and I didn't have one in hand. I ended up ordering the tofu Vietnamese po-boy, with all the fixings of a traditional Vietnamese sandwich, but their bread was even better. I also ordered the wonton soup (I know, it's Chinese, not Vietnamese). There was a little confusion here, because most places offer won ton soup and wonton noodle soup. So when I said won ton soup, and got wonton noodle soup, I was a bit disappointed. They only offer wonton noodle soup. Oh well. Their wontons were ok, and the broth was kind of bland. Jazmine cafe was one of the first places I've ever eaten pho at and while more places have opened in the vicinity since then, its still a classic staple. While I prefer the pho at a different restaurany, you can never go wrong with Jazmine, and it's always consistently good. Unique to them are their spring rolls that instead of being just pork & shrimp and vermicelli, are more like sushi rolls in spring roll wrapper and they're quite refreshing. They even started offering a poke bowl recently which was quite good! Large servings of salmon and tuna, and they didn't skimp on the toppings, I just wish they would allow you to order it with BOTH rice and salad instead of one or the other! At around the $10 range and open on Sundays (unlike a lot of Vietnamese restaurants in the area), it's definitely a great place to get a pho fix, or even a "sushi" fix! read more
