We came here after visiting the Vietnamese Exhibit at the New Orleans History Museum. We learned that Pho Tau Bay was one of the most historic Vietnamese restaurants in the city. Not sure if it's the same ownership, but this specific restaurant is highlighted in the artifact in the museum. The food was fantastic here. We loved how authentic the flavors were. The Bun Bo Hue was reminiscent of what we grew up with but had a little more of a shrimp pasty flavor added in (which was great). I ventured out and got the chicken roti to just try what their version was like. I enjoyed it a lot. Highly recommend this restaurant !

The banh mi ga nuong was stellar; bread was toasted and crisp while the individual parts, including daikon and cilantro were just right to elevate the grilled chicken. The bun bo xao was great; the fish sauce was sweet and umami packed, worth slathering the noodles in abundance. The nem nuong cuon, or bbq pork sliced rolls, were wrapped well and just sweet enough. Will need to return to try the pho.

Fish sauce. I recommend adding some garlic and Thai chili

Had the beef combo pho, before I add anything to my soup, I like to taste it first and realized it was bland but salty. I asked for extra limes on my to go order and didn't get any extra. Fish sauce was alright. The staff is very friendly. We did like the sweet chili sauce ! And the fried spring roll. Ambiance was relaxed for a Monday.

Downgrading my review after trying a couple other things. Bun bo huo freaked of rotten fish and the employee claimed it was supposed to be that way but it tasted like rotting anchovies to the point I couldn't eat it.. and I'm the kind of person who will totally microwave leftover fish and be fine with it. Don't really get what the point of asking how my meal is if they don't care to address that I hated my food..

Sometimes you don't want to go out and you don't want fried food. Good thing UBER delivers to hotels. I ordered a B7- bun ga nuong cha gio aka chicken and vermicelli with spring roll. Order came early and the box was filled to the brim. Food is very good, reminds me of the Vietnamese food at home. Chicken was a tad dry. No plastic forks - is there a plastics ban on Nola too? No worries I got some extra forks from take out the previous nights. This is a good place for Vietnamese food.

I came here on a rainy day and it was the perfect meal. We ordered the extra large Pho Tai and the #1 banh mi. You order at the cashier and they deliver your order at your table. The pho was flavorful and they give you a lot of noodles. The banh mi was fresh with a generous spread of pate. I liked that they give you shrimp chips with the banh mi. I saw that a bunch of New Orleans police officers eat here so it must be good haha. I would definitely come back!

NOLA has a large Vietnamese population, so I decided to find a pho restaurant near my hotel. It's on an unassuming corner next to a Jamaican restaurant and across the street from the medical school. A few people were dining in or waiting for their take out orders. Seems they have regulars. Regardless, they were friendly and greeted me upon entry and as I was leaving. You order at the counter and they give you a number to place on your table. I got pho with steak and banh mi dac biet, which I planned to save for breakfast the next day. The pho was fantastic! The broth came steaming hot with a generous amount of noodles. Hoisin and sriracha were by the drink station so I definitely mixed that in. I also really liked the banh mi. Very filling and wonderful homemade bread! It came with a side of shrimp chips. So good! Good prices too! It feels a bit like a hole-in-the-wall restaurant but I'm not sure when it gets busy as I came early evening on a Tuesday. There's parallel parking in front but I'm unfamiliar with the area. Maybe there are parking lots nearby. When I visit NOLA again, I will definitely come back to eat here!

I believe this is the only Vietnamese restaurant located in French Quarter New Orleans and it was great! We tried a variety of food from their menu and it is authentic in my opinion. Quality, freshness, and flavors were all on point here. We got Pho Dac Biet, spring rolls, rice plates and they were good. However, I do think the portion of their protein (pork) could be slightly bigger on their rice plates. I was eating half a slide of pork with a big spoon of rice to make it proportional but that is just my opinion. The prices are very reasonable. It is self-service where you order at the counter and they will bring the food to your table. Service is quick and friendly. Indoor features plenty of seatings to enjoy your meal. The only downside is they do not open on the weekends. Food: 8.2/10 Service: 8.5/10 Experience: 8.5/10 Value: 8/10

One of my favorite Bun Bo Hue's in New Orleans. It's a little spicy and very flavorful. I usually just order a large bowl, though I do eat a lot. The egg rolls are crispy and full of meat fillings. The Pho Ap Chao is pan fried pho with sir fried vegetables (plus or minus meats). I love the crispy/pan fried texture of the pho. The stir fry is savory and you can still taste the traditional pho flavors. The Ice Coffee is made using a Vietnamese phin filter- very strong and will wake anyone up. I like mine with less condensed milk. The owners are very friendly and the service is fast. It can get busy around lunch time. There's a parking lot across the street, though it is located next to the interstate.

This is my go to meal. Meat is always seasoned and tender. The customer service is always great. Nice vibe that is perfect for inside dining or cute date.

Have eaten here since back in the mid 80's. Liked the old, Westbank location better, to be honest, but the food is still wonderful!

This time, the crawfish pies were just coming out so I tried one of those. The dough was a bit sweet but flaky. Inside.. was interesting. There was crawfish of course and there was a vegetable, I can't make out which one. The pie was a different flavor than I'm used to. Sweet and Savory and I tasted like there was a bit of Italian dressing or something in it. I'll try a meat one next time.

Got some chaud pork with onion, crawfish pie, meat pie, baked bao which all had great pastry taste, but the filling wasn't the greatest for me I guess. I had been to New Orleans since 1987 to attend JazzFest until my near death and rebirth in 1999…read morewith Celiac disease about 6-7 times. After I was diagnosed with Gluten Intolerance as a foodie I thought my culinary life was over and one of the many, but not only joys, of going to Nola is the food. I was reluctant to go and then a bit later 20 years ago Katrina hit this great city. When I did return my reluctance of going due to my food restrictions was born out, but the fact that the people in New Orleans fry everything, including water. Besides jambalaya and some fresh fish, I couldn't eat anything. However, due to a friend who was born in New Orleans, grew up in New Orleans and lives half of the year there with her family involved in the restaurant business, Pat introduced me for a number of chefs and one in particular, Michael Gulotta, who modified dishes or even made me specially dishes that were gluten free. Every time I went to New Orleans, I tried to go to his two Vietnamese Cajun restaurants, MoPho and Maypop. Michael Gulotta, chef-owner at Mopho and Maypop was born and raised in New Orleans. Michael began cooking in local restaurants at a young age. After graduating from the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute, he joined the newly opened Restaurant August. Gulotta then took leave to train in the Italian Riviera and Germany's Black Forest. When Hurricane Katrina hit, Michael returned home to help rebuild and assist with August's re-opening. He was named chef de cuisine in 2007 and led the award-winning kitchen for six years, while establishing relationships with local farmers and purveyors. He opened his first restaurant, MOPHO, in January of 2014 with his brother, Jeffrey Gulotta, and high-school friend, Jeffrey Bybee. Located in New Orleans' Mid City, MOPHO was a true neighborhood restaurant and a destination for Southeast Asian inspired cuisine utilizing the Louisiana pantry. In its first year MOPHO was nominated for America's Best New Restaurant by Bon Appétit magazine and named Restaurant of the Year by New Orleans Magazine. In 2016 Michael was named one of Top 30 Chefs to Watch in the nation by Plate Magazine, A New Orleans Rising Star by Starchefs, a Best New Chef by Food & Wine magazine, and Chef of the Year by New Orleans Magazine. In 2017, his team opened its second full-service restaurant, Maypop, in the Central Business District of New Orleans. Maypop was named a Top 5 Best New Restaurant by The Times Picayune, A Best New Restaurant by New Orleans Magazine, a New Orleans Top 20 Restaurants by Condé Nast Traveler, and a New Orleans' Top Ten Restaurants for 2019, by Brett Anderson. Michael has also been a semifinalist for The James Beard Awards Best Chef South for the past four years. Most recently, his team opened a second MOPHO location in the new Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. On my trip to New Orleans this past May, I was saddened to learn that Michael was closing MoPho and Maypop, casualties of the so difficult business of owning a restaurant I know all too well. After JazzFest one evening on MoPho's second to last day, Pat and I went to pay our respects and I got to thank Michael for his kindness showing me there was culinary life after my diagnosis not only at his restaurant but when he catered the main stage at JazzFest, but he also introduced me to more fusion possibilities which I have incorporated in some of the food I make. On the last day of Maypop, my brother Jeff and I dined at Maypop, Michael's more upscale joint which served delicious food and not to be undone, after both closed on that Sunday in May, I saw the MoPho at the airport right in front of my terminal to fly home and I got the greatest wings on the planet to fly home with: CRISPY CHICKEN WINGS WITH NUOC MAM CARAMEL. I have no idea what exactly that is except Cajun chicken spices with a Vietnamese caramel sauce that is unparalleled in it's flavor, bite and marriage of cultures that was so good Pat would always ask for more on the side. I'm sure Michael will get back in the game at some point but I write this with gratitude to Pat for introducing me to this great Chef and to Chef Gulotta for taking the time to show me what I could eat and what modifications he could make to his food for me.
