I'm back in New Orleans from Miami area and I haven't stopped talking about this place for 6 months. I had scouted this place out over yelp a while back and always meant to write this review and let me say it exceeded my expectations. I was one of the first few people after opening that day and was greeted by the nicest guy named Thomas(if you remember their name, you know they made an impression) He recommended a chicken katsu and was nice enough to bring it out to my car once it was ready. I intend to eat it at my sisters house but wanted to take a fresh nibble and OH MY GAWD the flavors were so insane, possibly the best pickled daikon and carrots on the best bread I've ever had with a bahn mi and the freshest piece of chicken, I proceeded to eat the entire think in the front seat of my car and proceeded to look at the beautifully done picture menu and debate if I wanted to go full "big back" and go for another selection, (mind you I eat off the kids menu most days and still don't finish my food). Safe to say I went back in and complimented Thomas' recommendation and locked in an order for another one! I called my sister immediately after ordering and GUSHED about how amazing my food was and that I've basically just been sitting in my car eating food for the last hour which caused me to go back in for her bahn mi! I made a point to go last thing before I left town last time and can't wait to crack through more of the menu! read more

Decent banh mi, a more modernized take on the Vietnamese classic. Fresh veggies in each of our sandwiches. Tried the chicken katsu, grilled chicken and pork banh mi. Was a bit disappointed in the pork banh mi mainly due to the pork being quite charred/burnt on all the edges. Otherwise the other sandwiches had great flavor and katsu was really crisp. If I could give 0 stars I would. Ordered a pork banh mi and there was an option to upgrade and substitute the bread for rice for an additional charge of $3.50. Got to our hotel (starving) got charged the price to upgrade our sandwich to a rice bowl and it was a sandwich with NO rice or vermicelli in it. Basically meat and bread and veges. Very very bland. Also order a pork spring roll, my daughter takes a bite and it too is missing the vermicelli. It was basically the rice wrapper, lettuce and meat. It was horrible. We ordered two items and both items were wrong. On top of that I got up charged to upgrade our food and instead it was downgraded and we were still charged. I can walk to this location but I would rather drive to a Vietnamese restaurant instead. It is nice to have Banh Mi Boys nearby but it is simply not my first choice when I want a banh mi, pho or some other Vietnamese dish. Great first experience. Love the concept. Loved the food. Had the beef rolls (not fried) with the house sauce. (tangy) Bread was crispy. Veggies were crunchy. The pickled daikon and carrot were the only thing that wasn't outstanding. They were a lot more tangy than typical. Still good, though. The char-siu banh mi I had was good, but the pork was more "pulled pork" char-siu style. Still good, just not what I was expecting from char-siu. Overall, still a 5 star experience. read more

I really love Banh Mi Boys for their fries. The fries are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with tons of flavor from their various toppings. The "K-Town fries" are fantastic! It has steak, fried egg, and delicious sauces on it that boost their fries to another level! Some of the best fries in the city! I've tried the steak and egg noodle bowl at this location. It was good, but I probably would stick to their banh mi and fries. I just don't think it's anything to write home about. read more

I ordered a subway sandwich that was just delicious. The staff was very kind and helpful suggesting something new. The sitting area was relaxing with window front view to sidewalk for "people watching". I enjoyed my visit and returned twice more during my 8 day stay in the neighborhood. I absolutely love Banh Mi Boys. Pretty much everything on the menu is good but here are my unmissable favorites: bang bang shrimp poboy/banh mi, the k-town fries, and the ooey gooey cake bread pudding. Soooo good. Service is always quick and super friendly. I do enjoy this location because there's so much indoor seating. Lots of outdoor seating too for nice days, unlike the OG location where it's outside or nothing. I'll keep coming back as long as they are in business! read more

I had to stop eating to leave a real time review. We walked in blindly from a day of shopping, just looking for a quick bite and some relief from the heat. It's Easily the BEST meal I had while visiting New Orleans. I got the marinated pork belly Bahn mi. It rivals some of the best I've ever had out in Los Angeles. The restaurant is casual, walk up ordering and food is brought to your table. Service was quick and food was hot! I have ordered delivery from Banh Mi Boys several times now, and have been very satisfied with the delivery (Thank You, Door Dash) and the food, each and every time. The sandwiches are tasty, and different. Today, we ordered three Specialty Vietnamese Banh Mi: Char Sui ($13.88, Chinese BBQ), Bulgogi ($15.44, Korean Marinated Beef), and Chicken Katsu ($15.44, Fried Chicken Breast). For myself, next time I order, I will get fewer veggies on each sandwich, I think they mask the taste of the star of the show, the BBQ and the Beef. The Banh Mi Co-Star is certainly the delicious bread, from Leidenheimer Bakery. There just isn't any better po-boy bread, it really contributes to the success of the sandwich. So, I can't review Banh Mi Boys' location - looks nice from the photos - but the food is very good, and I can recommend it. A very solid Four Stars. read more

Small sandwich shop next to a gas station. There's a seating area outside and a standing counter top inside. Service was great 5/5- nice, pleasant and brings you your sandwich. Overall the food: 3/5 BM Combo was loaded with a lot of meat & I ordered extra pate. It was lacking a little bit of flavor- the bbq pork meat was thick cut but bland as well as the pate- although I loved that it was slathered on... it lacked a little bit of flavor (maybe a little more fish sauce or msg/salt) or maybe if they did a "mayo/butter" spread it would be on point. Pork belly - nice thick cut but also needed some flavor. Loco Moco- gravy was good and the sunny side egg gave it a nice creamy taste. Steak & Egg - this was probably the best one out of the other sandwiches since the steak meat was full of flavor. This was a weird experience. I wanted to like it a lot more than I did, but maybe it was an off day? I went in on a hot summer day, and it was pretty gross in this restaurant. It felt like the air conditioning was barely on, if at all. And the place was noticeably filthy. One table had cleaning products and rags on it, but no evidence they had been used. The floor was pretty gross. There was liquid and food all over. But, living in New Orleans, you get used to less than perfect conditions. I still really wanted to try the food, as I love Vietnamese food. I ordered a portobello bahn mi, and an order of tofu spring rolls. On the plus side, The prices were reasonable, and the food came out very fast. The not so good: This was probably the most Americanized Vietnamese food I've ever had. It didn't have the bouquet of herbal and spicy flavors that I'm used to. Also, there was a real problem with temperature. The spring rolls were extremely hot, which they're not supposed to be. The tofu was steaming and I couldn't eat it for quite a while. The tofu is supposed to be cold or room temperature. My suspicion is that they microwaved it. The microwave suspicion grew when it came to the sandwich. The portabellas were smothered in a type of barbecue sauce. The sandwich would not cool down for over 10 minutes. The mushrooms had steam coming off of them. Everything was overheated. The flavors weren't bad, but they didn't remind me of any of the authentic Vietnamese food I've tried. The sandwich was kind of soggy, and bahn mi are supposed to have a crunchy element. The spring rolls should be refreshing, not piping hot. I needed to go to the bathroom and especially wash my hands after eating the barbecue mushrooms. But alas, their bathroom was out of order. That really was the icing on the cake that brought this down to two stars. I had to go to another store and buy something in order to use the bathroom. Like I said, maybe it was just a tough day. Solid fast casual option if you're in the area. Soda fountain and canned beer and sake drink options. They have many non-traditional banh mi options we were excited to try. Korean fried chicken had a franks red hot type sauce which we weren't expecting. The Char Siu rib had great flavor and matched well with the traditional pickled veggies on the sandwich. Lots of meat on the sandwich but unfortunately it's not freshly grilled--grilling for some char before serving would really take this up a level. Staff was friendly and helpful. Stopped by for quick lunch and this place was good! For the four of us, we got the Tofu Spring Rolls, Shrimp Spring Rolls, Grilled Pork Bahn Mi, and Bang Bang Shrimp Bahn Mi. Everything was very fresh, the shrimp spring roll wrapper was a little loose so some of the shrimp fell out. The Bang Bang shrimp sauce was so yummy with a little thai chili kick and sweetness from the sauce. The grilled pork was your standard bahn mi, my favorite type of bahn mi. You can enjoy your drinks while you wait for your food to come out. When we were there, the kitchen was extremely busy and it did take a bit to get our food, but we weren't in a hurry. They do offer alcoholic drinks and I had a lovely Hitachino Red Rice Ale. They also have Raume in different flavors too. Little extras that make the food stop even better.
