As a resident of Journal Square, I find this little bakery to be a breath of fresh air. My husband and I live close by and were delighted to see a bakery open up in the neighborhood. During our first visit we picked up a strawberry cupcake and an Oreo cupcake. Both were delicious. The cake was moist and the frosting was just the right consistency. On a separate occasion I grabbed a latte with coconut milk and it was great. Both David and Jason were very welcoming. I'm looking forward to making this our go-to bakery and coffeeshop. read more

Got the cappuccino and chocolate Brownie this morning. The cappuccino tasted like latte, and the quality of the coffee is meh also. The Brownie was too cakey for my taste, and pretty eggy as well. Even my fudge brownies with protein powder in place of flour taste better :( I almost gave a 2-star, but want to try out a few other of their stuff first. I live like a block away, and the Jsq area sorely needs a few non-generic coffee shops/bakery, so I really want JB's to be succeed. Hope their other stuff are better! read more

oh JB, i really wanted to love you! Journal square finally has a place we can go to for treats... but its unfortunately nothing special. we had the cupcakes and the well recommended cake scraps. the frosting was like congealed fat nothing light or fluffy about it at all and the cake was dry. like cardboard dry! whyyyy??? its only been a few days... hopefully theyre just going through some grand opening jitters. i really hope JBs improve. I went during their grand opening and absolutely loved it. It's a very cute, clean and welcoming space. The staff were very friendly and you can even see the baker, who's also the owner, baking fresh cupcakes, pastries etc. as you make your purchase. It makes you want to stay and get another pastry from that batch! It's a small local busniess and I am more than happy to welcome them and support them. I highly recommend this place to everyone. It's affordable and the cupcakes are all so good. Especially the Oreo cupcake and the Tres De Leche cupcake. I really really loved the everything cookie as well and the coffee was very complimentary. I haven't seen a place like this around the neigbhorhood and I welcome it with open arms. Can't wait to visit again real soon!!! read more

I was lucky to make it over to the bakery on opening day. Everything was fresh and delicious. From the mini cheesecakes to the wide variety of cupcakes, I was able to easily get my sugar fix for the day. Now that the shop is open, I'll be sure to stop in for all the sweets. We stopped in last night for the Cake Decorating & Sip class and had a great time! We both learned quite a bit about cake decorating, had some great conversation with the owner, and walked out with decorated moist, delicious cakes! JB made a specialty vanilla bourbon cake for my friend Clint's birthday and it was absolutely unreal. It tasted just as good as it looked. I wish I had pictures but we all dug in too quickly. Very excited JB BakeShop finally opened up. Its a cute, warm and friendly little bakery Jersey City needed. Their sign in the front always has a funny message that makes you love their sense of humor right from the start. First thing I tried was the Whoopie Pie. Highly recommended! Still waiting to try the red velvet one. The second visit I tried the Bakery's pop tart. Again Highly Recommend! They also have Oreo truffle. I say visit the bakery and try one of those bad boys you wont regret it. I noticed the bakery was on yelp and wanted to give them a review on my experience. I saw one review was not pleased with one of their items so Im one to try it myself and decide if its good or not. The Cake Scraps was the item being judged. I tried it and I must say it was good! I recommend it. If you're ever around stop by and try the sweets at JB BakeShop and be the judge yourself. You wont regret it. There is plenty of options for everyone!
