Working with JC Movers & Lumper Service was the worst experience of moving that I've ever had because of the incompetence and unprofessional behavior of the crew. Only 2 movers showed up rather than the 3 we paid for. When asked, the other movers laughed, smirked at each other, and just said "He's not coming." The crew leader, Curtis, smelled strongly of alcohol upon arrival. Throughout the day Curtis was aloof, slow-moving, and rarely spoke. He stayed inside the townhouse most of the day, taking apart a crib, and left all the hard work and actual moving to the younger member of the crew. The younger man was inexperienced and severely damaged our hardwood floors, front door, and drywall up and down the stairs. He was extremely careless with our possessions and did not load the truck efficiently or safely. He filled the entire trailer with boxes and furniture, but only about 5' high despite having 9' of vertical space to work with. Heavy boxes were placed on top of lighter boxes, and the boxes marked "fragile" were put on the bottom of the load underneath heavy furniture or other heavy boxes. Most of these fragile boxes and their contents were damaged during the cross-country drive. The load was not braced or reinforced in any way to avoid items shifting in transit which caused serious damage to a prized antique bookcase and several other items. When the crew at the destination opened the trailer to transfer the contents into a shuttle, everything had shifted during transit and many boxes were crushed. The crew actually identified a safety risk in unpacking the trailer because items would shift dangerously when a box or piece of furniture was removed. They were able to fit our entire load into 16' of shuttle truck space when stacked efficiently to the ceiling and properly braced. This is 12' less than what the JC moving crew used which represented over $900 in unnecessary trailer space cost. In terms of the good, two things: 1. After being advised of this experience, the president of the company, Chandra Thomas, extended a courtesy credit of $250. Although this is half of what it will cost to fix the bookcase, not to mention the extra space the JC crew used in the trailer, I did appreciate the gesture. Chandra was very professional and responsive which made interacting with her the only bright spot in this entire experience. 2. The company sent a contractor to fix the front door, walls, and hardwood floors in our townhouse which was done reasonably well and quickly. Considering everything together, I would recommend you avoid this company and look for a more reputable local mover that will treat your home and possessions with respect and care. read more

Willie and his team showed up and got right to work, helping us during the process, and finished right at the allotted time. Having JC Movers move my wife and I out of our apartment was one of the worst moving experiences I have ever had. They were scheduled for the move through Pack and Load Services, a company which farms out their moving jobs to smaller companies. The movers showed up two hours late (9:30 instead of 7:30) and one of the workers, Curtis, smelled like marijuana. The workers were careless and inefficient during the move. They damaged the walls of our apartment, dropped 10+ boxes and broke multiple items during the move. Curtis took smoke breaks during the move and made the other two workers do most of the moving. It took them over three hours to move our things out of a two bedroom apartment, which resulted in extra charges as we went past our scheduled moving time since they showed up two hours late. They asked me and my wife (who was 31 weeks pregnant) to help wrap furniture and move items, though the agreement was for them to move the entirety of the apartment. The unprofessionalism and incompetence of JC Movers was amazing. Do not use this moving company. read more

I contacted JC Movers on 10/31/2019 to get a price on a move from my storage unit in Midlothian Il and my apartment in Oak Forest, Il and i was quoted $3250.00. When i decided to hire JC Movers, the price escalated to $3800.00 and i excepted. This cliche is so true; "YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET." On Friday, November 22, two movers met me at my storage unit around 11am. One of the movers is really a professional mover. I can tell by how he was handling my belongings. The other one, not so much. Going forward, after they finished at the storage in Midlothian, they came to my apartment and another truck showed up with another driver. One of the movers was half wrapping my leather chair. I had to tell him to wrap the whole chair. He finished wrapping that chair correctly but not the other leather chair. Once they loaded my belongings onto the other truck, the owner, Chandra called. And to my surprise, requested another $1400.00. I paid it. I was told that they were going to transport my belongings to another truck and then bring it to my destination. I never heard of anything so absurd. That is how things get lost. And not to mention broke. And that is just what happened. When i caught my flight that same night, Chandra the owner called me while i was on the plane telling me the truck broke down and they wont deliver my belongings until Sunday, November 24th when they were supposed to drop my belongings off the next day Saturday, November 23rd. It gets worse. Once the movers arrived on Sunday, they marred my cypress wood floors, my leather chair is scratched up, some of my keys to my key board is broken, one of the glass is broke out of my picture collage, my brand new GE stainless steel refrigerator is scratched, they put a dent in my wall because they put my bed on the wrong side of the wall and i think i have another tote missing. And all of my plants were dead! I see why the other moving companies told me they do not move plants. And i ended up with some tennis racks that doesnt belong to me and a part to a refrigerator that doesnt belong to me. That comes from transporting items from one truck to another which is nutty as all get out. Oh, and they used my dolly to bring stuff in and kept my dolly. So once they were finally done, Chandra called for the final payment of $900.00. I was so upset, i told her that it is alot of damage done here. And i told her that i am a business person, so i am going to go ahead and paid her and i expect her to do the right thing in restitution damages. Chandra told me once i get settled in, take pictures and submit a claim. She told me what i wanted to hear. She got the balance of $900.00 and played me like a cheap pair of panty hose. She is very unprofessional, unethical and have made a bad name for herself. Chandra has been avoiding my calls and isnt professional nor woman enough to talk to me. This ordeal transpired November 24th and she had the audacity on Friday, February 21st to email me stating "after careful consideration and looking at the pictures, she will settle for $200.00." How dare she insult me like that! Chandra is really stuck on STUPID, dangling on DUMB and running from SMART if she thinks i am going to settle for that. Im talking over $2,000.00 worth of damages here. And i forgot to mention, i had four to five cases of water that had never been opened and they were scattered all over the back of the truck busted. My pads to the feets of my bakers rack were off and no where on the truck to be found. So that tells me they dragged my bakers rack. And the field supervisor tells me that they drunk the water. Really? Chandra needs to stop being cheap and hire and train her movers. And i even tipped all five movers $15 a piece after they damaged my belongings. And the field supervisor had the nerve to turn up his nose. Ungrateful individual he was. They didnt deserve that except two out of the five. Chandra i am not going to take this lying down. I dont know how you sleep at night. Taking advantage of your customers. GOD do not like ugly. You reap what you sow. If i could give a zero rating, i would. DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!! My move experience with JC Movers deserves negative stars. They were hired as a third party by Zippy Shell (my hired movers). I was not aware until two men showed up in an unmarked box truck, while hitting a telephone pole and then gate turning into my apartment. They were also an hour late. I was told my move would take under two hours since it was only a studio apartment but after two hours had passed my apartment wasn't even close to being in the truck. Fat forward my move went from 10:30-3:30. That's FIVE HOURS! The best part is they didn't even finish. That is when I asked them to leave because of their hostility. Not only did I have to watch my things break before my eyes for multiple hours, I had to deal with the two guys trying to take advantage of me. Blankets were supposed to be supplied with my move. But they decided it was an extra $10 per blanket. They also got annoyed wen I asked if they were going to wrap anything in plastic that was also provided. After a couple hours I got another hold up that they couldn't take apart my bed so they wouldn't be moving it. (I have a basic IKEA bed). Funny part is on their paperwork it has written on top "bring tools." I actually left my apartment and bought tools to help them take it apart (my normal tools were packed since I was moving after all). When I returned with tools, all hell broke loose. That is when they decided they couldn't take the bed because there wasn't any room. What packers don't prepare for fitting someone's bed in the truck? Also, zippy Shell doesn't have a truck pod for studio apartments, only one that also fits one bedrooms so my stuff should have fit just fine. I can only believe that they were lazy and didn't want to try to maneuver the bed frame out so they were going to come up with whatever excuse they could. When they started getting hostile and yelling at me, I asked them to take what they had and leave. It had already been 5 hours. After telling me to f*ck off they stormed out. Once they got down to their truck they realized I had voided out my signature in their paperwork and that's when things got really scary. They pounded on my door and refused to leave while yelling at me. This is the short version on my experience. Please don't use these movers. I had to threaten to call the police and was actually scared for my safety, which is a feeing you never feel in your own house. Zippy Shell has to send a second set of movers to get my remaining items. Although, they showed up hours later, they simply moved the bed without taking. It apart out of the apartment in less than 10 min. They couldn't believe that two guys left the amount they did after wasting 5 hours. They had just come from a third story walk up 2 bedroom apartment where it took them 1.5 hours to move. A week later when my stuff was delivered I wasn't surprised to see many things broken. Contacted them for an inquiry for a moving job in January and right off the bat, I noticed red flags. They scheduled us to move on a Sunday and once we were fully packed waiting for the movers, no one showed up. It was near impossible getting a hold to someone. Finally through searching Facebook we were able to get a hold of the CEO Chandra Thomas who explained that the rep shouldn't have scheduled us for a Sunday. Regardless if that's true or not, it shows no communication, us as the customer were inconvenienced. Tried to schedule for the next day and she informed me that we are not scheduled for Monday; I guess she didn't understand that we were inconvenienced, and that we should be handled as priority. Eventually we were scheduled for the move on the following Monday. Monday gets here and movers showed on time 11am, and keep in mind we are paying by the hour. I noticed that these were young kids with no real sense of urgency. They were on their phones, eating chips, FaceTiming, basically not professional. Being that they were a black owned business, I gave them some slack. I had to motivate the workers to work; helped them carry things to the truck, ultimately acting as their supervisor. I also had to drive their truck out of the alley that were stuck in. I am a licensed CDL holder and when I asked the driver did he have a CDL he said no. The vehicle was a straight truck with Air Brakes, which the driver should have had a Class B CDL license to drive. The mirrors were damaged, no real visibility. Overall they started at 11am and they didn't finish until close to 8pm that night. I instructed them to just leave my things in the foyer area of the house I will carry my things to the areas of the house. I spent over 1,000 dollars with this company and to make matters worse one of them stole my mother's IPad. I tried to send Chandra Thomas an email to her to give her some feedback, being a black business in all, but she never returned my email or call. I see how they have such high reviews because they force while they are present to conduct the review in their face. Honestly, if you want your things damaged, stolen, or be gouge out money because time management is not of importance than use them. As black business owner myself, please understand that who you have out in the world representing your business is a reflection of you. Those young men were young but clearly did not have your business in mind when they came out to represent you. From the front desk to the movers and CEO it was a mess. I will never do business with them again and highly recommend you stay away. read more

If you don't want your stuff broke, do NOT use these guys. They broke my new $300.00 computer monitor as well as some other stuff. Not as expensive but still it's my stuff. I was inside and asked the young guy to turn the boxes so I can see the labels to know where things are and he did a couple but that's it and when I walked away, I heard him say "F you" to my back and there was no organization what so ever. He just stacked them anywhere. Very sloppy. They also wanted me to just stay in the apartment and I found that strange. So I went out to see how things were going and the guy on the truck would load up the dolly to bring it into the place and left the truck un-attended and my DeWalt drill sitting right by the door so someone can just walk up and take it while he was inside. I didn't like that at all. I'm also white and they're black. They were cheap and did save me some money but I'll never hire them again. Too much stuff broke especially my new monitor. You may be fine if you're black but white people beware. I thought the one guy was good until I saw where he left my drill out to be stolen instead of bringing it inside. Good luck if you try them as someone else below said the same thing about broken stuff, but I ignored it because they were cheap. Never again, that's for sure. read more

Initially the moving experience started off very good but the last item to be removed from my home was a treadmill. The movers attempted to force my treadmill up the stairs instead of disabling it while in the basement. The guys did not have any tools or drills and my furniture including my son's bed have damage also. We provided pictures (see attached) to the owner and the customer email address more than once and after getting my payment of over $2,000 dollars they have not provided any response to the proof of damage. One of the worst experiences for a customer or any human being is when you as a business don't even acknowledge the individual with any form of communication. I had a good time experience with JC movers I booked 2 men for 3 hours and they called me and said they can be there 30 minutes before scheduled time if I would like for them to come early or just keep the original time. I was good with 30 minutes early. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT USE J.C. MOVERS !!!! You know I really wanted to wait and see if I calmed down after the initial shock of how bad things went (I am writing this 2 months after and still makes me steam) To say bad almost seems an understatement at this point. So let me explain: 1. I called the day prior to confirm they were coming and the 8am start time. They confirmed and said Antwan would see you then. 2. 8:30am rolled around and no one was in sight or head from until I got a call from Antwan saying he was having truck troubles but would be there by 9am. 3. 10am finally rolls around and they finally show up. They take about 20 minutes to asses things then finally start to load boxes. 4. They were trying to do it fast but not smart. I had cases of wine and instead of using a dolly or take a case at a time decided to try and carry multiple at one and dropped an entire case down the stairs. Luckily none broke but not a good start to an already not good start. 5. They start moving my couches and wouldn't listen that they come apart, said it take so much time to take them apart. In not listening, they screwed up walls, then the railings dropped my couch and broke its frame and tore the leather in multiple places. 6. 11:30am rolls around and they say they need to bring in more people, so I said screw it and fine since we were so far behind schedule I just had to get it done, so they screwed me there and made me pay for two more people that showed up at 1pm. I made sandwiches and provided waters for them as they needed as well. 7. 2 additional guys show up at one and they get the desk and bed taken apart and finally loaded in the truck by around 5pm, to finally head to the second stop a storage unit. Truck wouldn't start right away and sat and waited for a good 30 minutes to get it moving, the drive from stop 1 to stop 2 even in rush hour traffic (this was a Saturday, so no rush hour) is max of 35 minutes, they didn't show up to the storage until almost 7:30pm. 8. Loaded items at storage unit then had to make a stop at the final location (there was one more stop but that got pushed) to unload some stuff. Unloaded some items and finally headed to the 3rd location at 9:30-10pm at night. Yes, the location was in the country but that was no reason, I mean no reason to drive 35 mph the entire way out there and maybe hit a whole 45 mph on the way back, if your drivers are scared of the dark they shouldn't be driving. So again what should have taken a whole 30-40 minute drive took well over an hour each way. Finally loaded up there then headed back to the new house with all the stuff. Finally unloaded everything and got everything put together by 2am. 9. Unloaded and Antwan got mad at me for not moving or picking up stuff, i.e. what I hired them for (I had back surgery and am not allowed to pick-up and move stuff), plus I'm not going to unwrap stuff as if there is damage it is on them. Which there was a lot of damage, a lot! 10. Massive gashes in the walls, railings, dents in things, ripped an entire front panel off of a dresser cabinet, broke glass, broke fridge piece and biggest of all - destroyed my couch. Antwan had such an attitude with my I was tempted to call the police as I was concerned for my stuff and safety after his response. 11. Had to go weeks with trying to get everything fixed and sorted. In the end they did fix things but it did not make up for the hell it put me through the day of moving and for weeks after. Every time they had to come out to replace, repair or anything they were at least 30 minutes to an hour + late. NOT ACCEPTABLE 12. Moving is never easy, but when you hire movers you expect it to be a little easier - nope not with them! DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT USE J.C. MOVERS if you want it done in a timely manner and your stuff not destroyed. Customer service, lacks as well as she just didn't seem to care about what her team put me through. 7.5.17 So I have an update- Chandra just called me saying I wasn't a Christian and that I was trying to make her homeless and hurt her family. I tried to be rational with her but her disrespecting me on the phone and saying that putting a bad review is going to take good out of her mouth and make her homeless. Not a good start to my day when I get yelled at for waiting to post a review to warn others that the work that was done was not up to standards. I tried to see if I would calm down but it only brought back up how bad things were. No discounts were offered how the slowness the fact that they took way longer than they should off and all the time I had to take after to fix and be at my house (all while they were late every time) and miss work for their lack of professionalism. read more

Move 3(2019) Yes, you're probably wondering why I chose this company after the previous experience. Well. Initially I did not plan on going with these movers and just having people we knew help us out but that fell through. So a last minute decision is just that. I didn't imagine or couldn't have dreamt of how terrible this past move was. The two guys came at 10:30am instead of 8:30am. They managed to bang every piece of furniture I had against the walls and stairway. The owner of the building said it was okay to use the elevator which they took advantage of and would just load everything on there and instead of one guy being downstairs/upstairs when moving out and in the apartment to take the items off, my family and friends ended up using the trolley to move really heavy boxes up and down. The movers were sketchy. One guy had extremely bad body odor. Like the stench was putrid. Considering we had to get in an elevator several times with him(while we were moving the furniture and he was standing there with two long hands) it was hard to ignore. I'm not sure if they have an official uniform but one guy looked presentable while the other guys clothes looked like he had been rolling in dirt. Regardless, I figured it was just preference. Throughout the 3.5 hour(was supposed to be 2.5) move there were several times I noticed one of the movers leaning on the walls literally dragging himself up as if he was under the influence and wanted to be anywhere but there. Nonetheless, I wanted to work with what we were given. In an attempt to help them move faster because they were taking their sweet time, my friends and family started to move items as well. Unfortunately, we ended up doing more work than they did. Maybe that's what they wanted. During the move, they broke several of my furniture and as they did it, they just looked at the broken furniture with blank expressions and then kept moving. My boyfriend was moving so much stuff I forgot the other guy with the strong b.o was even there aside from his b.o reminding me. Honestly had it not been for my boyfriend, my friends and family, a 1 bed room move would have taken 5 hours. The guy that had the strong b.o was told specifically to watch out for a glass table I had and immediately after, stepped right on it. Overall, $300 of stuff was destroyed. The movers wrote fake names on the contract(wrote their real name then scribbled out their real name to write a fake name). After the unprofessional phone call with the owner, the movers proceeded to curse and slam things saying "let's get the f out of here" "f these people" as they were getting into their van. One of the movers stopped to take a cigarette break to calm himself down as if he had to spend $200 extra on a move that was supposed to cost $290 and had all his furniture broken/damaged or scraped up. Like maybe if you guys did the job properly than you wouldn't have to deal with upset customers. Like why pay $400+ for a move when $300 items were damaged AND the movers who were hired moved nothing but 5 boxes out of 40. What made this whole experience even worse was the "owners" unprofessional tone once she was called to negotiate a price after this train wreck of a move. She kept talking over us, shouting and basically saying how she is not liable for anything. Some things I've noticed based off the previous reviews with this company is: 1. Time frame is never accurate off by 2 hours. 2. When they do go over the time frame you're charged. 3. Damaging of items/recklessness 4. Ripping off people by only offering "discounted price" for damaged items which totals to still be more that comes out of yogur pocket than necessary. 5. We had a wonderful experience with JC Movers. I called them less than one week before we needed their services and asked if we could use them for a move on Thanksgiving Day. I know!! We are evil people. But, guess what they said, "we'll make it work!" My husband and I are so thankful for their help in getting us moved in to our new place. We moved cross-country, so as if that was not stressful enough, we also had to find people to help us on Thanksgiving Day. They made it work, and did not even hesitate to accommodate us. The movers were on-time, hard-workers and they finished a one-bedroom move in one hour and 10 minutes. My husband and I helped them, but only because we offered. They did not ask us to help once. Also, they carried all of the heavy items themselves. We are in temporary housing until June so we will definitely be calling them again to do our next move for us. Also, they were very reasonably priced and since that was the case, we ended up tipping our movers very well. All in all, a great experience and we'd definitely use them again! read more

The two guys (can't remember their names) that came to my place to load up my things one evening and then unload them the next were excellent. Extremely nice. Very careful with the large items and walls. Only criticism would be for them to have blue shoe protectors when moving things so the floors and carpet don't get dirty from their boots; not that it happened much. Would definitely use them again. I've used another set of guys from MovingHelp.com but they were less professional and I'm glad I decided to try JC Movers this time. Thanks guys. I'm so glad that I didn't let the bad reviews stop me from going with my gut feeling and using JC movers. When I first contacted the company I talked with a man named Everett. He was so wonderful and helpful that I immediately decided to go with the company. Then I decided to look up the reviews and I got worried with my discussion... but I know that sometimes people just like to complain so like I said, I went with my gut feeling. I am so happy that I did! Our experience with JC movers was the ONLY thing that went well for us with the sale and move of our home. We had to store our 4 bedroom home into PODS for a few months until we purchased a new house. We couldn't go with the original movers because the cost would of been too high for what would be 2 different moves. So PODS put me in contact with JC Movers. So first they moved us into PODS and then 2 months later they moved our stuff into our more home. On both occasions I was given a time that they would arrive, and both times they arrived 5/10 minutes early and ready to work. Also people had mentioned things broken or dings in their walls but for me that was not the case. nothing was broken...NOTHING! As for a ding or two in a wall, well can you really possibly move a while house with out having a ding! The other thing that really stood out to me was they guys work ethic when they were in my home. Respectful, courteous and just overall great guys. My husband is a superintendent of a company and is a very hard boss to work for. He expects people to work hard. He was so impressed with these guys. They never sat and took a break, they worked so hard. At one point, while we were waiting for another POD to be delivered, Everett and his guys were busy doing stuff and my husband and I insisted they take a few minutes break! Moving is heavy, hard work and they just kept going! I knew that if the first move didn't go well with JC movers then when we needed to have our stuff moved from PODs into our home we would just go with someone else. They wasn't a second thought in our minds after that first move that we would 100% be using JC movers for the second move. I hope to never move again but if I have to I know I can rest easy that at least one thing will go right because I will always just call Everett and he will take care of us! The move took place at the end of March. As a business owner I hate to give another owner a bad review.... I said I would just move on and I had until today. Today I discovered my blueray player, cable box and dvd player where also stolen by the movers. That's in addition to a whole box that was full of vinyl and other craft supplies, a Coach Purse, Money from my Grandson's bank, my couch cushion, bed rails (later returned after the owner repeatedly stating the truck was empty when she video chatted with the movers from inside the truck), backyard table umbrella, gas cans, broken furniture and some other things. The movers were late to arrive, 1 mover left during the move, his replacement arrived then before he could get downstairs with his first piece of furniture he was hurt. The move literally took 8 hours to move my stuff out of the condo not to get to my new home. Because I have used movers several times all of my furniture and boxes where stacked and ready to move out, nothing had to be broken down! Mind you I moved from a 2 bedroom condo in Dupage County 15 minutes down the road to Will County. They tried to charge me for them going over their time when they took long breaks on the truck, talking on the phone and just purely on BS! I kept letting to the movers know I would not be paying any additional money because they were slowing around. I also stated the same thing to the owner at the time of booking. I did let the owner know about the majority of the items broken and or missing and was refunded $100.00. So it served no purpose to reach out to her again about the other stolen items when I was only offered $100.00 to replace my couch as there was no way possible to replace a single couch cushion to sit on. The were clueless on how to move a glass curio cabinet. On a 10:00am move time a couple workers where musty not a today musty, musty like I just don't use deodorant or practice any form of hygiene ritual. This move was the worst experience ever! I have used several moving companies in the past and never have had a problem such as this. I was actually referred to this company by a fellow schoolmate. As a business owner, I strive for Professionalism and Passion. Well I cant expect this from everywhere. I hired this company to move me and my family out a 4bd , 2bathroom house into the same just a little bigger. Let me state I did read the review, but felt everyone needs a second chance, so I went with them. WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!!! First the moving company was late, and when called upset, the owner was apologetic, however as a customer that is Furious, I express how I was upset, in the mist of them being wrong and not on time, the owner proceeds to tell me she will cancel my move because Im upset no one called or came at the arrive time which went from 830am to 9am. Needless to say they arrive two hours late, I missed another delivery as well as had to repay the delivery fee to another company. Now at hour 3 I ask them how much long because we brought out almost all the things while 4 mover rearrange the truck with the items from this morning sitting there. Now 5 hours later they tell me they need to make two trips, wait your company guaranteed me one trip with complete detail on all the things in my home, was told it was not a problem. Now I speak to the owner about how im not please with this and she saids dont worry I will discount you. So 10 yes 10 hours later I have a $1200 bill and was discounted $175. When I moved from my first home with the same items minus the washer and dryer it took 5 ppl to do the same job in about 5 hours and half the cost. When speaking to the owner again she tells me she came to assess, and none of my family was helping and I had alot of stuff. But wait If you assessing dont you let the other party know whats going on? If you knew it was possible to be in the $1000s shouldnt that been discuss with the other person what if I didnt have this money? So with all this said it was a learning experience for me and my husband, my husband truly feels it was a scam and it was all their plot from the beginning , even he had to ask them to speed up because they were on the clock. So at the end I spent over $1000, they arrive late, and I have to pay another $300 to another company because I missed my delivery, so in all I pay over $1300 for a move. I was moved over the weekend and it was the worst experience of my life! I hired 3 movers and 3 crackheads showed up that smelled of malt liquor and Mirajuana! I had to leave a window cracked because of how bad the smell was. They showed up 3 hours late and moved like snails to milk the clock. They Tried to overcharge me for everything as well. Once I expressed my issues to the owner CHAUNDRA she became very nasty, unprofessional and rude. She took absolutely no accountability for my concerns and tried to charge my card before the job was even finished getting completed. This was truly the worst experience I've ever had with any company in my entire life. I have been waiting a long time to even write this review because when I think about my experience with them, I still get upset. I'll spare you all the details, but they showed up after my move-out appointment, after the receptionist made me cry. The movers kept sneaking into rooms I said were off limits because they were my roommates, and I would find them doing sketchy things in the off-limits bathroom. They asked me to buy them food, so unprofessional and broke and scratched multiple pieces of furniture. The worst part is that since they came AFTER my 5-hour move-out window, my building charged me a $500 fine, and I had a crowd of people coming out to see the incompetence of these "movers" I can't believe this place is still in business. read more

I moved from Michigan to Illinois last weekend and I rented a Penske truck and had Michigan based movers load it, drove it to the destination and JC Movers unloaded the truck. Overall both companies made the actual moving process quite effortless. JC communicated with me from the beginning throughout the unloading. They did a great job. Well, my sentiments are similar, if not the same, as the other Yelpers. So, I would give this company negative stars, if allowed. I have NEVER had this type of experience with a moving company. I mean, I genuinely don't feel safe after what transpired yesterday. So, my partner found them on Moving Help and thought the reviews were good. When he went to meet them at the storage unit, the guys immediately seemed annoyed b/c the move was larger than they had expected. (The work order erroneously stated a 26 ft truck. Read: a large move) They kept telling him about how much they didn't feel up to doing a big move. We specified the move to them when we set up the reservation. They did not feel like making the two trips even though they are paid hourly. Also, they said they don't move washer an dryers. Uh, what? After my partner, Jake, called me and told me about how unprofessional things were, I called the J.C. office. Dorothy listened intently and called them and told them to improve their attitudes. This only led to more trouble. They confronted Jake about calling their boss; they were seeking to intimidate him, I guess. Fast forward 6 hours later. These dudes still had not unloaded a 17 ft truck. Yeah, it wasn't a lot of stuff. It was less than half the stuff. They didn't even fill the truck b/c they had no clue how to maximize space or pack a truck efficiently. They complained about having to move stuff upstairs - we live on the second floor - and said that their business office did not tell them that there were stairs. They complained bout that incessantly, and took their time moving because they said that the stairs are too much. Because Dorothy said they would move the washer and dryer they did, but it took two of them to push the dolly, and to put it a few steps down in the basement. They were not hooking it up or anything; it just took 25 min or them to do that. I had enough and called Dorothy back. I told her how slow they were moving, how rude they were to Jake, the incessant complaint, and their refusal to put together the beds - which I was told was a part of their job. They also damaged two of our newly remodeled walls, scratched several pieces of furniture, and attempted to drag heavy furniture across our new floors. We asked them not to, but they tried to do it anyway. We walked in and caught them. They asked if they could use a moving pad to drag it on, and we insisted that they could not. Dorothy passed the call to Shaundra who made excuse after excuse. She even tried to excuse them smoking on the job by saying that it was the stress. When I asked them to stop smoking, while Shaundra was on the phone, the older guy went nuts. At one point he turned around and stared me up and done. As a woman, it made me highly uncomfortable. As I asked him to not look at me that way; he continued to stare and then chuckled when he turned away. It was so bizarre and left me kind of freaked out. Anyway, long story short, they sent a second crew out to relieve the other guys who refused to finish the move. At this point it was 5:30 in the evening. I thought certainly they would send the supervisor out, but they did not. The second crew came and they did a pretty good job. They moved more boxes and furniture than the first crew in 3 hours - literally half the time. For some reason, though we got charged 4 hours. We didn't contest b/c it was already a 12.5 hour day of a local move, and we were exhausted. We just figured we would write a review and seek damages through court. In the meantime, PLEASE don't use this company. I have moved so many times in the past and never had such an awful experience. The level of service is poor, and I felt intimidated and unsafe with the first set of movers. Heed the warnings you find on this page. For their price, you can certainly do better. read more

I was in a bind after the first movers I hired turned out to be pretty inept. They left me with a poorly packed 1/2 full truck with the other half of my things sitting outside, so I called JC Movers (found them via Google). They were extremely helpful and were able to send a crew out to me that same day. The movers were awesome! They had to unpack/re-pack a portion of the truck, but they were able to get everything in, and it was packed much better and was definitely safer for a cross country move. We had JC movers pack our pods and move us out of our condo in Chicago. In the process of the move, they scratched one of the condo walls, but they did repair it at their expense. While moving my furniture into my new home, my dresser was damaged on all 5 legs. They paid for the repairs, but they didn't cover the full amount. The furniture repair company said that the damage wasn't consistent with something that shifted while packed and was very major. JC movers said that though there were paying for it that they believed it to be the POD company's fault. I would not use them again in the future. read more

I have moved a LOT and have never had boxes tumble down the stairs before! To be fair, 1 of the 3 guys was quite good. 1 was mediocre until I lit a fire under him. The 3rd was either new or not bright...he started off insisting on using a dolly for a short distance with stacks of boxes that he ran up a long flight of stairs...and this short distance included a smaller down flight of stairs. But he was using it backwards down those stairs, so I made him use it the right way which baffled him. Later, he was trying to load a much too tall and heavy stack onto that same dolly and the entire thing came tumbling down at me! Note that I chose them because they are insured, or so said the lady on the phone. But their fine print you get when they arrive says their liability ends when they leave. So if you find something broken in your tumbled box later, oh well, too bad. And since you're paying by the hour, you don't exactly have time to halt progress and check every item in tumbled boxes. The only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 is that the one guy was good and the 2nd guy was ok when I got him moving (he was standing on the truck doing nothing and when I asked him why, he said he was waiting for boxes to come from the other guys...I reminded him of a big pile of boxes 10 feet away!) I also started giving direction, doling out boxes and telling them where to take things...that got it moving quickly...otherwise, I think it would have taken a LOT longer / cost more. Hard for them to be slow or idle when their customer is moving at high speed, lol Overall, if you choose to use them, go through movinghelp.com as at least there you can withhold payment until they remedy any problems. read more

We helped our daughter move from a 3rd floor apt in April and called for help at the last minute. We were assured by the CEO Chandra that the two men who were coming had done hundreds of moving jobs of and that they would do a great work. Their price was very fair compared to other companies we had contacted him . Antoine and Fernando showed up right on time and worked quickly and with the utmost care to pack our 17 foot U-Haul perfectly. From my first emails until the job was complete, I was very satisfied. I was referred over by another company to have 2 men load/unload our trailor. Both days the men showed up right on time. All of them were friendly and quick. Our couch had to be hoisted over a tall balcony, they covered it and did not damage the building or the couch in doing so. We were expecting them to be done around 2 hours and they had finished early. All together we had a pleasant experience. read more
