I have taken my teenaged daughter to this salon several times and have been pleased with the service each time. I agree with the person who said the front desk can be problematic. Once when we arrived for our appointment, we found that the receptionist had scheduled our appointment for the folIlowing week, instead of the day we had asked for and had been told it was scheduled for! In addition, we have had other relatively minor issues with the front desk so I would advise verifying your appointment before you go! Megan has done my daughter's hair three times and did a great job each time. She cuts well and is fantastic with color. The last time my daughter went in with a deeply saturated turquoise color(which a friend did), Megan was able to remove all the turquoise and gave her a wonderful copper color which she had requested. Color correction is not an easy task for any stylist, and Megan did a fabulous job. I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting color. read more

I don't know how this or Amy of the penny's salons sustained themselves. had a haircut last week after showing the stylus a picture waited a week and couldn't do anything with the style that she gave me went back today to have it trimmed up ( fixed) and although there is a huge sign stating walk-in welcome and there was only one client in there and nobody else came or laughed the whole time she told me I have to come back tomorrow afternoon afternoon . I offered to come back later today as this was about 12 30 and she said it would have to be tomorrow. pretty sure they weren't full for today and I surely didn't see any walk-ins coming in and out the 45 minutes that I was waiting for somebody to come to the counter to help me. not sure why I couldn't have run a couple errands and come back so she could do her five minute trim up of them as that I have. I only went in the first place because they have a $12 cut coupon Now it is turned into a nightmare, and I spent more than that gas going back-and-forth Good luck pennys read more

My engagement shoot is a couple weeks away and I went to a new salon today- JC Penney. I forgot to book an appointment at my regular salon which is terrific, and of course they were booked up. So I went somewhere new to see a stylist who apparently "has a lot of experience" based on the two google reviews I found. Well she totally hacked up my hair! I have generally long straight hair, easy to manage and I've been told it's easy to cut/style. Wanted a trim and a FEW LONG LAYERS. Easy peasy! She dry cut my hair while telling me all about her ex-husband ("he's an a**hole, you should see the sh** he put me through") etc. So I'm listening, trying to be polite and then she scoops up my hair on top and chops it! She says "oh no long layers will thin out your hair so they need to be shorter" AFTER SHE CHOPPED it! Then she washed it, and scraped my scalp so hard with her nails that my scalp is still throbbing an hour later. I sear i have marks on my hairline from her nails. The water was lukewarm, the blow dryer she used looked and felt like a hotel travel-style blow dryer. She didn't use a brush while she blow dried (after I asked her to) and it frizzed up beyond belief. Now I'm a generally nice person. I hate conflict, I am very polite and pretty quiet. But this made me so upset! I don't want this to happen to another poor soul! read more

On April 28, 2016 I decided to get a hair cut after how many years having my hair so long. My hair was up to my bottom, and decided to have a hair cut for a change to start something new. I made an appointment and the appoint was with Paula D. When I met Paula she directed me to the wash station to get my hair washed and ready to be worked on. Upon washing we had returned some conversation about the hair style I wanted and asked her if she can make it the way I wanted on the picture I have shown her. Paula stated, she could make the hair cut design exactly how I showed her. I TRUSTED HER! After getting my hair washed we walked to her station. She asked me up to how short I wanted my hair to be. I told her up to my bra line, and that was it. Paula then said okay. Paula then began cutting my LONG hair, when she was done she didn't even blow dried my hair as it was stated on the appointment request. It was set for Wash, Cut, and Dry. I then just ignored the matter about the blow drying. I proceeded to pay up front, and tipped her then left with my niece and my two daughters, and rushed to something important. In the car while I touched my hair, I immideatly felt my hair not right and NOT as what the pictured shows. Upon reaching my home I proceeded right through the bathroom and took out my straightener to see what Paula did to my hair, and to my surprise my hair was all MESSED up and NO WHERE like the pictured showed! My hair look like she just practiced on it and left it as is! I then contacted JCPenny and informed about the damaged that was done to my hair! I was completely mortified, and beyond upset! She does not know what she was doing, yet she clearly stated with confidence that she did know. My hair was TERRIBLE!!!!!! Her service was TERRIBLE!!!! I had to return back, and get my hair fixed properly by Stephanie. All personnel on that day when I returned saw the terrible hair cut Paula did to my hair, and all stated it was VERY bad, and Stephanie could not really cut any more because it was going way past the length I wanted and was going above my shoulder! My experience was TERRIBLE with Paula, and again my hair was all messed up completely! Unprofessional, and misleading of knowing what she was doing but in reality she didn't know anything one bit! read more

Jenn W is wonderful at cut and color. Gotta say where this place lacks is the front desk. I have had appointments canceled when she was actually going to be there....and then there are times you don't get the reminder phone call. Check in can be slow, and I have been made to wait behind people who were there AFTER I came in more than once. Once you get past the front desk, though, you are good to go. Great cuts. Great atmosphere. Good value for the money. read more

I recommend Mel, she did a great job on my hair. It came out exactly how I imagined it would! The only problem I have is that it's been a month and it's washed out! I do t know if anything can be done but I'm going to return to the shop, I'm not happy about that. read more

I went for a cut and color and was really disappointed. I made an appointment with someone I was told did the best job in the entire salon, because I'm very picky about my hair. I do blonde foils, and she did the foils at least an entire inch away from my scalp, making it look like I had already 3 months of roots showing! Now 3 weeks later it looks horrific. Going to get my hair fixed FINALLY tomorrow by someone at a different salon. I'm sure they would have fixed it in the first place had I said something, but why would I go back when they couldn't do it correctly the first time? read more

If I could add additional stars I would. I've been going to Wakeelah for a few years now and she has always done nothing less than amazing with my hair. I have very thick, curly hair that not many people can do but she does it well! She never cuts off too much when I ask for a trim. I moved but whenever I visit my dad I always make a trip to California, Maryland to get my hair done. The salon itself is always very clean and organized. I would recommend Wakeelah and JCP Salon in California, MD to anybody! read more

The salon in the JCenney in California, MD has the WORST customer service I have ever experienced!!! Their appointment scheduling sucks! For the last few weeks I have been tryng to schedule an appointment with one of their stylist who had done my hair before. Everytime I made an appointment, I would get a call the day before or day of my appointment letting me know that either she was not going to be in or that they "accidentally" over booked her. Finally (yesterday) I asked to be scheduled with a different stylist. Go in today for my appointment and am told that the styist is on vacation! Trying not to lose my temper, I asked if somebody else could take me. They said they would check. I stood there for over 15 minutes and no one came back with an answer! At that point I just asked for the manager. Even tough she was very apologetic...it still does not help the fact that they need to get their act together and train their people on better customer service (and scheduling)! Needless to say, not only have they lost me as a client, but I will discourage anybody I know from patronizing their salon!!! read more
