I signed up with JCF during this COVID quarantine. I've been needing a workout routine that keeps me accountable and keeps me motivated during this difficult time. I am loving it so far. The owner and trainer, Daris, is amazing. The zoom work outs are TOUGH, but great. I am so impressed how Daris still manages to hone in on everyone individually within each zoom session. He provides personal motivation or tweaks to form. You can tell how much he has really gotten to know each member. Even through ZOOM, he can tell if someone needs that extra push to keep going. I am not sure why I haven't put in this review yet. I started JCF in April 2016 when I was 4 months postpartum and now it's a way of life for me. I cannot imagine my life without JCF in it. So I'm one of those people who signs up for a gym, goes for about a week and a half, then pays for it for about 6 mos to a year before canceling. I always have the intention "I'll go tomorrow" or "I'll start next week" but I never do. I was looking for something that would hold me accountable and had a community I could be a part of. Thank goodness I found JCF! There are ladies of all fitness levels, so no need to be intimidated. The trainers Daris and Cara really care about you. They do a great job of pushing and encouraging you, but never yell or make you feel bad if you are doing an exercise incorrectly. I really love the way they approach each new client; you have a one on one with Daris to talk about your eating habits, workout habits, and sleep habits, etc. and how that affects your overall health and fitness. They really care about you and want you to meet your goals, as opposed to many other places which just want your $$$. I appreciate that they hold you accountable- I get emails, texts, and the old "haven't seen you in awhile!!" once I get back to class. I really need that motivation and accountability to keep me going! Classes are most weekdays at 5:45, 6:45am and 7pm. The 5:45am are brutal but so worth it! I've had to mix it up recently due to my work schedule and the 7pm class is great too! In the winter months, the classes are at Grace Van Vorst Church and in the summer at Exchange Place. Each class is a little different, from a circuit, to a team challenge, to a partner workout. I love that I never know what I am going to get. The focus is HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) where you burn fat and gain muscle. I am an avid runner, but was looking to add some strength training and upper body muscle. After about 2 mos, I have just that! My husband says I look better than I have ever looked, and just this weekend I ran my fastest 10k!! I don't think I have lost any weight, and I didn't intend to, but my clothes definitely fit differently and I feel much more confident! I feel fortunate to have been introduced to Coach Daris and JCF. As a former college athlete, I've spent the last 15 years trying (and quickly getting bored or frustrated with) various workout and "diets." Then, I found JCF. It will change you My key ring is filled with key tags. Aside from supermarket & store memberships, I have a sizable collection of gym membership tags. You see, I have a long history of gym memberships but not necessarily gym patronage. I had aspirations of being one of those fit girls that I see everywhere but not necessarily the discipline or desire to put in the work to get there. So as the aspiration strikes, I get a new membership and another one and another one. I joined JCF in one of these bursts of aspiration. It had all the markings of a bad impulse buy. Random conversation with a friend on Saturday. Text on a Sunday. Trial class on Monday. Not knowing much more about it other than that same friend liked it. We signed up for a 6-week challenge. That was the start. This is a boot camp style workout. Workouts are outlined and defined with tough but caring coaches. They toggle between overall conditioning/HIIT and weightlifting. All workouts have regression adjusted for beginners and some progressions for those who are further along. There is a good mix of exercises and you will develop favorites and not my favorites. What sets JCF apart from most other gyms and classes is the camaraderie that becomes the default Aside from sessions, there's guidance on nutrition and specific sessions devoted to proper form. There are frequent challenges too that are optional to participate but spark a sense of friendly competition. All done in an environment focused on lifting you up with a cheer and a high-five. There have been many challenges since that first one I joined. The path has been hard and not without its moments of frustration. To date, I've lost over 20 lbs. I weigh now about the same as I did in my freshman year of college. More than the physical weight loss, I've shed a few bad assumptions. The most significant of which is defeating the "I could never's". "I could never workout so much. I'd get so bored." I average now about 4-6 workouts a week and take workouts on all my travels. "I could never run a 5k. I don't have that in me." Yeah...not a problem. "I could never wear a bikini" Ok, still working on this one but it's going to happen. This experience will challenge you and in the end, it will change you. It helped me start to think that whatever I didn't think was possible can actually be done. This has started to extend to the rest of my life. Empowerment is a good feeling and in the end, that is what I take away from the sessions every day. There's no magic. It's still hard work. There are still days when I approach the gym, see the workout and wish I could turn back. I go back then to my big set of key tags. I've been a member of JCF since August, 2017! It has been amazing. When I first joined, I was going 2-3 times per week. I definitely saw some results during that period. However, In January, 2018, I joined one of the nutrition challenges, which helped me tremendously. After realizing how much protein I actually needed each day (I wasn't eating close to enough) and emphasizing vegetables in my diet, I felt like I was getting more out of the workouts. I also started going to the workouts more often - averaging closer to 4 (or more) times per week. I feel so much stronger than I did before starting with JCF! I also used to injure my back relatively often, and the frequency and severity of those injuries has drastically declined. The coaches are supportive and emphasize the importance of good form to prevent injuries. Everyone I have met at JCF has been friendly and non-judgmental. I have been attending sessions at JCF for a month, and I cannot recommend it more. I was looking for a way to get fit before my wedding, and it turned out to be the ideal setting. The coaches were all knowledgeable, encouraging, and motivating, and they set the tone along with the 'boot campers' of positivity and mutual support. The work-outs were always changing, which kept each session interesting and fun. I also appreciated how when I started I was given information on maintaining a healthy, fat-burning diet. With a little more discipline than usual, I experienced quick results. I'm writing this review after completing one session of bootcamp with Daris indoors at Grace Van Vorst Church. This bootcamp is worth the time and money you commit to it, because Daris is committed to getting you to a place where you can see results. The rest is up to you to put the work in and get the most out of it. Session times and locations vary. Hoboken has its own new location at Hoboken EDGE. If you've always wanted to try something like this, buy yourself a flex pass to be able to try out a few classes without any further commitment. For me, I wanted to be accountable to showing up on a regular schedule, so I went for a 3-day per week schedule. At first I was very scared of joining this group, but the social aspect of it was intriguing to me and I figured it might be motivating more so than trying to drag myself to the gym alone. It was a smart move, because now I am getting to the point where I am addicted to it and I've signed up for the next round... without the least bit of a hesitation. This is worth so much more than a gym membership to me and I will tell you why I think its worth it... First of all, you start off the boot camp cycle by taking a baseline fitness test to measure your personal ability to do a maximum number of pushups within one minute, max number of situps within one minute, and how long you can hold a plank position. (They are planning on adding cardio measurements next, and have an eye toward a nutrition and weigh in accountability soon as well.) You are not in competition with anyone else but yourself. Secondly, there are women here of all fitness levels. One person is training for a triathlon and others haven't worked out since the days of watching the clock tick down in gym class, wondering when it would be over. The JCF Bootcamp program was able to meet every person at their level. I would consider myself the least out of shape of all of the participants this cycle and yet I still felt comfortable getting started despite that overwhelming feeling. Daris will listen to you to understand how to modify exercises to fit your personal fitness level... but still keep you challenged. There are no excuses, there is no missing class, and you must perform to the best of your ability. Daris will call you out if you are slacking but he'll also make you feel very proud when you have good form and complete something challenging. The trainers and staff took a lot of personal time to get to know me and my goals, sharing opinions about my nutrition questions and personal fears. I feel like the amount of time and effort JCF Bootcamp has built into these sessions is worth the participants' cost because despite running a class full of motivated athletes, he pays attention to each person and really pushes them to do more than they would on their own. As a team we support each other and its neat to see people progressively improve their fitness ability. From this first cycle I have lost more weight in four weeks than I've been able to do on my own in one year. I have strengthened in a few areas that were holding me back from trying new and harder activities and I have gained a lot of confidence in my ability to work hard. I would encourage any of my family and friends to give this an honest try and I certainly recommend to anyone in Jersey City or Hoboken who is looking for motivation, and not just access to workout equipment. read more

The trainer was not certified when I joined. He may be certified now (I stopped going around March) but at the time, we were basically working out with an uncertified trainer. When I learned this, myself and a few others had to really rethink this. To give you further perspective, I won a weight loss/fitness challenge, I was given 3 free months, when I asked if I could use them at any time (because they had no expiration date) I was told yes, of course. A few months later when I went to use them, the owner told me no way, I had to pay the full price. Oh well. What can ya do? THIS is what was the final straw for me. Proving once again that he was all about the money and putting on a front for the students. It is the principal of the matter. Any "business owner" that has a contest and then decides not to follow through on the prizes? That's not someone I want to do business with and it's illegal. It's winter. I feel like eating piles of nachos and fries more than I feel like working out. My muscles are looking sad and jiggly and my waning ability to bound up the WTC PATH station stairs has me looking around for the nearest defibrillator by the time I make it to the top. Last night I had a nightmare that it took me 4 hours to finish a 5K. I need inspiration, dammit!!!! And then it occurred to me -- the one thing that is missing in my life is JCF Bootcamp. Time to head over to Grace Van Vorst for some early a.m. session's with Daris and the rest of the awesome bootcamp ladies! I did boot camp from March til November of this year -- both indoors and out. Nothing but great things to say about boot camp. Daris is supportive, effective and encouraging. Oh, and fun! He holds you accountable and encourages you to keep going even when you feel like if you do one more mountain climber, you're going to collapse on your yoga mat. Some milestones: I went from 5 lb dumbbells to 8 lbs to considering going up to 10 lbs by the end of the last cycle. I ran 4 miles pretty painlessly and decreased my mile time by 2 minutes. My muscles were toned and holy crap! I actually put on a bikini this summer at the shore (don't go crazy with your imagination - I was definitely not some chiseled Victoria's Secret Model!) Yes, I could achieve all of that at the gym, through eating healthy and through a lengthy P90X session but let's face it. That lasts for about 1 week before I'm off the wagon and back to the nachos. I needed camaraderie, expertise, and inspiration to get me back on my fitness track and JCF Bootcamp was just that. Highly recommend it if you like the group/team aspect, meeting new people and having fun working out in a support environment. Word on the street is that there is going to be a running group in the spring, which is awesome because a bunch of boot campers particapted in a super fun mud run last summer and I want to be in great shape for the next one! Only drawback -- early a.m.'s are brutal but SO worth it! Not to mention, during the summer you get a pretty killer view of the sunrise over the Manhattan Skyline at the Exchange Place location, which makes it worth it all on its own. This is the best fitness investment you can make for yourself. Daris is motivating, respectful, fun, and educated in all aspects of health, nutrition and exercise. I have not yet had the opportunity to work with his fellow trainer but I hear he is just as great. This bootcamp made me stronger physically and mentally. Pushups?Pullups? Rugged Maniac? nothing I ever imagined doing before joining JCF. I was able to run faster and work harder than I ever thought I could after only two cycles. A few months later and I am a walking success story. The women I met and worked out with everyday early in the morning at Lincoln Park have become friends for life. The best way to work out ever. It is a total body work out that changes every time, it is never boring. This is the first time I don't look at my watch, I am so happy to go each time even at 5:45am (I wake up before the alarm clock !) If you're a slacker don't bother joining because Daris Wilson will hold you accountable, that is what I truly love about him. You can give up on yourself if you'd like to but he won't and he'll remind you but he won't babysit you either, he already has two children. He's encouraging, motivating, and determined on helping you get right with your fitness and nutrition. I'm a HUGE fan of JCF Boot Camp! It is the ONE AND ONLY thing I find motivating. Granted I've taken some breaks in between cycles before and really that's just because I get distracted with work and life and get lazy. I think what Daris and the rest of JCF Boot Camp provide to the women of Jersey City and beyond is amazing. There is nothing like it out there, and I couldn't give it a negative review if I tried. One of the best things about it is Spring and Summer and getting outside in the morning as the sun comes up. It's my favorite time of day! I also love how Daris has gotten to know ME and pays attention to me. He KNOWS when I'm slacking and when I need that little push. You don't get that in a gym or other high volume group classes. I was with JCF for about 8 months and the best thing I can say is that a wonderful group of women work out there. Unfortunately, the management is not concerned with safety. I injured my shoulder during a workout and ended up in PT. Nobody helped me modify workouts or had any concern how it happened. I've seen people fall, been instructed to use flimsy folding chairs to do exercises, and use too heavy weights. The last straw for me was when the door a TRX was hanging on swung open and I fell hard on a concrete floor. The coach did not check to see if I was OK. She said it was not the first time this had happened. She proceeded to use the same dangerous set up with another women two minutes later. I informed Daris, the owner, and he also did not ask if I had been hurt. I cancelled my membership immediately after that. Bottom line, there great women there, it seems to be the main reason people like it. Are they concerned with your safety? My experience is, no, it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. It's your health and safety, risk it if you dare. And if you get hurt, demand a refund. read more

Highly recommend. Coach Daris develops challenging, inventive and thoughtful workouts. There is a lot of care involved in this program and the coach remains very active during each class, paying close attention to members form and makes corrections and offers modifications when needed, making this a place for all levels of fitness. The community in these classes is a big part of the draw- everyone is kind and encouraging and there is a lot of positivity in these classes. JCF is by far the BEST! I have done every program, weight loss, joined every gym and hired tons of personal trainers. Nothing compares to JCF. I joined during the most recent challenge and not only lost inches but also lost bad habits and gained so much more. The community, experience, camaraderie is like no other. Very disorganized and very difficult to get responses to emails and texts. There is no schedule for when equipment is needed or when vacations and days off are happening. Outdoor sessions seen to have stopped, with no notice to members, despite repeatedly asking. Sessions are being held in Grace Church, with no ventilation, fans or open windows. Immediate reaching out only to regulate posting on personal Facebook pages, to control what is said and seen by other members. Coaches don't seem to stay very long and there are only 13 sessions a week available, 5:30am, 7am and 7pm. It's been 5 years and nothing seems to be getting better. read more

Can't say enough good things about JCF. Daris, the trainer, is the best I've worked with--he knows his stuff and each class is challenging but fun! I love seeing familiar faces in the group and it makes me get up and go because I KNOW that people are expecting me to go! I had the best results I've ever had with any program ever when I was going consistently over the summer. Now I travel frequently for work and cannot go as often. It's up to you to go consistently and practice good nutrition on your own (he will help educate you and coach you on this too), but if you do that, you'll definitely see great results. I looked super fit for my wedding and got many compliments from family members about how toned I was. There are a variety of fitness levels (from newbies to super fit) and this class is challenging for all of them based on the way they are structured. I was diagnosed as hyperthyroid a few months after getting married and quickly became resigned about my weight gain and sluggish metabolism. It seemed that no amount of working out helped. So I quit working out but kept on paying for my gym membership, hoping one day to get back on the horse (while at the same time sinking deeper into a "workout depression"). A year after, I came across the JCF website and Daris offered me a free session to try it out. That was last August and I have not stopped going back since. I continue to ger stronger and healthier. Last week I even ran my first 5K and will be running my second one in a few weeks! The workouts are always challenging and never boring. Even on those days I don't want to go, I drag myself there and come back home feeling great and happy to have gone. I know my weight will always be something I have to work a little harder at. JCF is a wonderful fitness community. The workouts are fun and constantly challenge you and make you stronger. It keeps you from getting bored because the workouts are so diverse and you get RESULTS. That's what kept me going and coming back. My story is... I did a Groupon a couple of years ago (in 2017) and ended up becoming a member for over a year. I loved it and lost weight, got stronger, made new friends, it was awesome. Some people have been there for 8+ years. I understand why and I honestly had no intention of leaving but then our family moved out of Jersey City in late 2018. I've still kept in touch with many friends I made at JCF through FB and Coach Daris is amazing. He is the best, always willing to talk to you about your goals and how to tweak things more. Can't say enough good things about him. He has a big heart and walks the talk. Fast forward to May 2020, with the pandemic and everything going on, I decided to try the 21-day challenge and Zoom workouts. So awesome!! Coach Daris worked with me to customize my food plan and I got to workout online from the comfort of my living room with some familiar faces. I lost about 6 pounds in 3 weeks and it really jump-started me back into fitness. The online classes were much better than I expected and I love the accountability. Mine is a simple case of boy meets girl, girl falls in love with boy,boy proposes, and girl realizes she needs to get in shape before walking down the aisle. I looked up several gyms and fitness camps in my area and after going back and forth l decided to try out JCF BOOT CAMP. I joined this team in Feb of 2012 to get fit for my June 30th wedding and my plan was to stop attending camp in May so l don't loose too much weight to fit my fabulous wedding dress. I cannot emphasize enough how much l have learnt from this camp. Daris is an awesome trainer and he pushes us in the most gentle way possible. He does not scream and shout like most boot camp trainers but he still holds you accountable for slacking off. With slogans like No Quit Zone, Get Your Mind Right(when you are too tired to do the final lap and are thinking about what you will have for breakfast) to the reminder that we are in this All Day Every Day, l find myself reciting this slogans at work when l'm almost giving up.On the days when l miss class he is keen enough to notice and he will text you or ask you in class where have you been. Every single day he has something new for us and the exercises never get boring and predictable. He is always on time, always happy and always ready to help when you are struggling with an exercise. Well,its now September and l CANNOT quit JCF!!! I have achieved so much in the months that l have been a part of this and l don't plan on stopping any time soon. It has become my second home and l have met wonderful ladies who have taught me how to push yourself to get better. I couldn't do a push up to save my life but l'm happy to brag that l can now blow out push ups , with one hand if l wanted to. I had 3 pound dumbbells when l started this program but l can now lift 12 pounds with no problem, which is a reminder l need to move to 15 pounds. The amount of energy l have every time l'm walking home from class is good enough to make me want to wake up the next day and do it again. Truth is, this is the best fitness program out there,with the BEST fitness trainer and the BEST group of women l have ever met. This is now my home, and l will always be proud of how fit and chiseled l look. JCF boot camp is a part of me, ALL DAY EVERYDAY!!!! read more

JCF Bootcamp has had the most amazing and positive impact on my life. I started at JCF a couple of years ago after leaving my previous gym. I was nervous about starting a whole new program, but immediately was welcomed with open arms by the most supportive coaching staff and fellow campers. After just a couple of sessions, I felt motivated and became addicted! The coaches and owner are incredibly knowledgable when it comes to getting and maintaining strength, endurance and a healthy lifestyle! I continued going to JCF throughout my entire pregnancy (39 weeks!), the coaches were incredibly passionate about keeping me strong and safe during all of the workouts and modified the exercises when necessary. I have never felt better about myself! I am now 6 months postpartum and continuing to train at JCF. I am so glad I found JCF! It is so much more than a gym/fitness program/nutrition program. I like that every single day is different - the trainers provide you will all of the tools and you just need to show up. This place isn't a drop-in type of place - most people are regulars and it really fosters an amazing and supportive community where you can expect high fives and where you know the names of the people around you. I have gotten very toned and feel stronger than I've ever felt - physically and mentally. I have transformed my eating habits and have made a lot of friends in the process!
