Got my waist length hair cut at the salon by Thompson. She said she had 10 years experience but she completely ruined my hair. I asked for layers and a trim and even showed a picture, but she cut too much depth out from layering leaving the bottom scraggly thin. My hair is short then long. Now I have to cut more length to fix it. I should've left when I saw the left over red hair in her brush and the terrible shampoo she gave me. I will never come here or to any JCPenney salon again. I walked into this store wanting 34/30 slim straight levies and even would have settled for 36 waist in a particular color but nope they had 6 pair or 30/30 and a bunch of odd ball sizes can anyone help me understand why a large corporate store cannot properly stock their shelfs with 3 of every size? Only one person working this entire studio by herself is absolutely ridiculous. Worst store ever. I wish there was a way to give a no star. I bought a dryer pedestal but they won't install it because my dryer was not bought from them. My dryer was bought by my home warranty insurance so I had no control. Jcpenny never disclosed that they would not install the pedestal if my dryer was bought somewhere else. I paid $69.99 for them to drop off a box that I could have picked up myself from the store. The only reason why I had it deliver was so they can install it but they refused to install and refused to give me my money back. I am NEVER ever going to buy any appliances from JCPENNNY again. I advice you not to either. Customer service sucked. I spent 30 mins with the delivery company and got 2 reasons why they wouldn't install. First it was the dryer wasn't uninstalled. They can't install any appliance that was installed already. I said if I uninstall it, can they come back to install. Then they gave another why they won't install....oh "there isn't an installation line item on the order" was the 2nd reason they gave me why they wouldn't installation. I am pulling out my hair now because there weren't even an option for installation line item when I bought the pedestal online. That's not the worst, the JCPenny rep Michael who I spent 30 mins explaining the situation disconnected me and never called me back for a resolution. So I spent another 30 mins starting all over again with another rep name Deana and she couldn't do anything either. I spoke with the supervisor Christie and said I want my money back for the delivery because they did not install the pedestal and installation was the whole purpose of their delivery. The answer was NO. Now I am stuck with having to go hire someone to install it for me. That sale price they advertise is your sweat, pain, time wasted and frustration. Not worth it. This review is for the JCPenney Portrait Studio. Do not waste your time at this studio, especially during the holiday season. I feel like this time of year is when they must make all their money, so they schedule as many people as they can. We arrived for our 10:15am appointment at 10am. There were at least 10 other families all standing around waiting. There was no where for anyone to sit and people were spilling out into the hallway waiting for their turn. Appointments seemed to be booked every 15-30 minutes and there appeared to be only 3 people working. When it was our turn to take our pictures we felt very rushed. The one round seat they had for 2 people to sit on was so old and had no cushion left so you would just sink down making you look uncomfortable or off balance. After being rushed through our appointment we waited around another 30 minutes before we were able to look at the photos and we were extremely disappointed that many of the photos were unusable. Some of the family wasn't looking at the camera, smiling, or blinking. The photographer apparently wasn't even paying attention to the screen to make sure we had a good photo. We finally decided to just purchase the CD and then hopefully do some editing once we got home. Instead of providing you with a physical CD they advised they would be emailing us the link to the gallery. When we received the link again we were disappointed that they did not even include some of the few decent photos we had selected. This has been the biggest disaster of a portrait studio! I think we'll be trying to get our money back and go somewhere else. Avoid the long overcrowded wait and unprofessional experience of the amateurs using the companies cameras and go somewhere that knows what they are doing. read more

Caitlyn in the jewelry department was very friendly & helpful to me yesterday. I was in a hurry & expressed to her that I was on my lunch break and had been waiting in a long line while a cashier was helping the same customer for 15 minutes, without any help from another cashier. Caitlyn was more than willing to ring up my merchandise to keep me from being late to work. She quickly helped me and I really appreciated the fact that she sincerely cared that I was going to return to work late, all the while smiling and treating me like I was family. How refreshing to be treated with such respect in this day and age, where most 'customer service' people don't even say hello, let alone smile or say thank yiu. Go see Cheyenne at the salon. DO IT. She might be a magician or something. I am one of those "scaredy cat" people when it comes to my hair. I know it grows back, and the color can be corrected, yada, yada...I don't care! When you're dealing with my hair, I need it to be done RIGHT. I moved to San Diego from out of state about 2 years ago, and didn't know what to do without my favorite hair person. After about a year, my highlights had grown out so far that I had what appeared to be an unintentional ombre... It was not a good look for me. Luckily, someone told me about Cheyenne. I was nervous, but I went to her because I was tired of looking like a homeless person. She's the BEST!!!! I have now gone to her every 6 - 7 weeks for the past year, and I have been happy EVERY single time. Since she's so good, sometimes it's tough to get in to see her. My best advice: do NOT leave your appointment with her without rebooking for your next one. The salon will call you one to two days in advance to remind you, and that way, you won't have to worry about it. So, what are you waiting for? Go get your hair done! read more

I came in for a few Christmas gifts and they had a sale on men's graphic t-shirts, buy one get one for one cent. The lady at checkout refused to honor the deal. She refused to go and check the sign and the location of where I got both shirts. I left without incident and without purchasing anything. I would have understood if the shirts were in the wrong section, but that wasn't the case. I received the worst customer service in the men's dept here. The service is never good, even if you can find someone to help you. I came in to return a Xmas gift I bought on line. The young man started off with an attirude making me feel like a thief. He's saying the numbers on my receipt don't match. He's examining the shirt, which he just took out of the plastic, unbuttoning it, turning it inside out. All the while telling me it's not a jc Penny shirt, he can't take it back because the numbers don't match. I need to send it back. I have to show him on the shipping receipt the return policy for online purchases. He finally gets a manager. A young girl who proceeds to give me the same attitude. She puts in the receipt, I can see on the screen the exact picture of the shirt I am returning. No apology from either of them, as she rings up return. I will never shop there, except to go to the Sephora shop, which I love. I would also add, the ladies in the salon are great! My daughters and I have been often for our hair or brows. read more

You will make multiple stops by the store and then they still won't have it ready or it hasn't even come into the store when they say it has, and the pick up line may be rather long. I was in this store doing some holiday shopping and did find a few things. I would have given it a better rating were it not for the cashier who helped me. I was pressured into opening a new JC Penney credit card and offered a 40% discount if I did. After I was approved, I was told that I would only get a 15% discount because some of the things I bought were brand names. To make matters worse, the cashier asked me if I wanted to pay for the purchase using my credit or debit card. So I opened a credit account, and they want me to pay the balance I just charged on it BEFORE I even get a statement? Yes that is correct, he offered if I wanted to pay the balance off right away. I have perfect credit to me that was an insult, as should be to anyone. If these are the tactics this struggling chain is using to try to stay afloat, too bad. It has been a while since I've shopped at a JCP and was pleasantly surprised. I was there to return a gift that my grandfather bought for my son. Bless his heart, he bought the bigger size thinking my son would grow into the clothes but didn't realize that it would then be the wrong season. I went upstairs and spoke to Maria in toddlers. She was so incredibly kind and could completely relate. She was also very quick knowing that I had a little one who was starting to meltdown. I bought some really nice 1 ct. Diamond 14k Yellow Gold Silver Hoop Earrings, they weren't cheap either. They looked very nice. My earring holes had partially closed up so I was gentle trying to open them up with a wire. It finally worked, so 2 months ago I was finally able to start to wear them. Well after wearing them for two months one is breaking in half. This must be a defeat in the product. I PC chat and they told me that since I did not buy the warranty plan there was nothing they could do. Advised to call the store. So called the store and they told me the same thing but I could bring them in and it would be between $40. -$60 to have it repaired. But there was nothing they could do. My husband and bought our wedding rings at JCP 22 years ago. I have bought other jewelry at JCP. After this I will take my business some where else for my jewelry. read more

I've made several purchases in the last several months & several items needed to be returned because the sizing also sucks. Every time I return something via mail (for online purchases) I literally have to chase my money down. After it is received at their warehouse I wait a week & then I have to start calling. I never just get a refund!! I have to call several times repeat their long order numbers multiple times & then tell them the shipping number back multiple times... then after all this time usually 14 days from them receiving it, they tell me it will be credited back in another 7 days!! WTH? How come Amazon can track all their returns & refunds for millions but JC Penney can't do the little bit of business they have left?! And your customer service help is atrocious! Just had the worst experience here. I was trying to make a return on an item that was past it's "return date." I realized it had been longer than their policy, but figured I would give it a try anyway, because it was a gift that I had given someone recently. He had JUST opened it, so I thought they would be a little reasonable. Not only were they not reasonable, but they were also AMAZINGLY rude! I wouldn't give a store 1 star for simply following their policy. This is because of the HORRIBLE customer service! It all started with "Judy," who clearly was just reciting a script over and over... "Sorry, it's past the return date." Finally, we asked to speak to a manager. Diana was who came over. She was the WORST of all. She had this smug "power hungry" look on her face as she told us she couldn't do it without a receipt. Luckily, I have a jcp card, and that is what I had made my purchase with. I told her that, and she said it didn't matter... They "can't look up receipts if they're past the return date, even if it was purchased with a jcp card." I said that was not true because I just looked it up today at work before I came over. She pretty much told me that was impossible, so I asked if we could at least try to pull it up with my card (jcp has done this for me before, so I KNOW it's an option). She literally just said no! Just straight up, "can we at least try to see if it comes up?" "No." Straight up! Finally we gave up on her and decided to try to pull it up at another register. We found Priscilla, who was actually really nice. She said she could pull it up, but would need a manager's code or whatever. So Connie came over, who was JUST about to help us out, when Diana runs up behind her and goes, "I told you no!" I was like, "no... You said we needed a receipt, so we're getting one..." I ordered 2 purses online on 5/12/18 for in-store pick up. I was told it was shipped on 5/14/18. Today is 5/24/18 and my order still has NOT been delivered to the store. The JC Penney customer service people keep telling me it takes 4-7 business days to be delivered, not including weekends. I can do the math! I highly don't recommend using their portrait studio. So far, I've been twice. I bought a Groupon package that included a digital photograph and some prints. I got all my prints but never got the digital photograph in the email. I got all my proofs in the email but not the actual digital photograph. The second time I got all the photos I am supposed to get it however the person helping me put the order in wrong. When I told her that she ordered the wrong print for my canvas she told me "oh that's because this image is a better quality." However that's not the picture that I chose and she never told me that she was going to use a different photo than I requested. It said happy Easter on it. That's not something I want on a canvas that I plan on hanging on my wall year round. I don't think it's fair to change an order that I paid for without asking me! So when she fixed the order she told me that my order will be delayed another couple weeks. However, no one ever called me to tell me when my order came in. When I called, I found out it had already been in for a week! They were supposed to let me know! They called me a bunch before my appointment to confirm but can't afford the courtesy of letting me know my order was in. I'm done with this place and their lack of competence. I'll try the Mission Valley store next time and hope hat they are better. If not, I guess I have to take my business elsewhere. Love the Groupon prices but can't stand the poor service! I use to get all my staff there and buy a life time guarantee, the one is a lot money, but thinking it will work if broken. Well guest what. My bracelet broke after a few years, took to the store at El Cajon JC Pennery after 2 weeks they called me said they can no repar, so they want to give the money back, really and keep the money for the life time guarantee, but when I told them that I do not want the money back I want to have my bracelet fix or give me the life time guarantee back so I can take to my jeweler to fix and forget ir about life time guarantee, they said no, spoek with manager and director of the store who who they don't do anything, they tried to force me to take new contract they give now to new people who buy jewelry, where they said they force to give you give money back when jewelry is broken. I did contact direct the Department of Life time guarantee who firs call they told me it will be investagation and they will email me back in 2 weeks, after 3 weeks have no respond. I called again at 8AM and the person who I spoke after one hr told me it will be a special sticker to send my bracelet through fed exp and she said give 2 hrs for that, so you can send to us and get fixe. After 5 hrs no email. I called back and after 30 minutes to explained over and over what happen, they give a supervisor to talk with, who told me You have you money back and is nothing we can do you have you money a few years ago, no sure what you fire for. Since I've been 6'4" for 30 years I've bought alot of clothes in the BIG and Tall section of JCPenney, From Chicago, to Phoenix, to Fresno and Des Moines, I've always been able to count on JCPenney for clothes. But JCPenney at Parkway Plaza sucks, For the past 12 yrs, I've looked passed the dept always in disarray, never reordering, never having the correct price displayed, sales displays weeks out of date and the excuse "There is free shipping if you want to order it online". The last time I went in, they had moved the dept upstairs, didn't like it, but I needed some pants for work, picked out some clothes, went to try them on, and there was no dressing room? or at least I couldn't find one. Not that there was anyone around to ask? I felt so out of place shopping for clothes next to furniture, I thought I don't belong here. I just laid the clothes down and left, went across the street to Casual Male, paid twice as much, but the sales staff were friendly and didn't have to search through a pile of pants to find mine. read more

I took my daughter and nephew in to get their photos taken. The photo session went fairly well, but the photographer was bland and not particularly friendly. I had to ask her if we could use props, she didnt offer, and she didnt seem to have many ideas about how to pose the kids. I suppose she seemed a bit young and inexperienced. I received a phone call the next week saying that my photos had arrived and they told me that they close everyday around one for lunch, then re-open around 2. I arrived at the studio at around 2:15 and the studio was dark. All the lights were off and I saw two girls sitting on a couch talking. I stood there for a minute, wondering if they even worked there because they did not greet me. They said nothing, they just stared at me. So I finally asked if they worked there. One girl said yes. Still, no explanation as to what they were doing, if they were open or closed, just blank stares. Finally I asked if they were closed, they said yes. I asked when they re-opened and one girl said 3. All i needed was to pick up my photos, I had already paid the previous week. So I asked if they could just find them and hand them over. They both just looked at me!! One of them sat there with her mouth open like I was seriously inconveniencing them. Finally, the girl who was the more polite of the two, got up and retrieved my pictures. I appreciate the fact that she got up on her break and got the pictures for me, but what I dont appreciate is the lack of professionalism and flat out bitchiness from the staff. They didn't seem friendly, helpful, or happy to be doing their jobs. It could be that they were just young, but I didnt spend almost $200 in the portrait studio to be treated like I was bothering the staff. Boo to you, Portrait studio!! I love this store! I used to drive down to Fashion Valley everytime I wanted to go to Pennies. But in the last year they have greatly improved the El Cajon location. I will say now it is better than Fashion. The misses section has a great selection of casual, business, & work out clothing. Also cant forget lingerie. Hate spending hundreds on necessities like underwear. Theyve got great brands for reasonable prices. Their swimsuit selection saves me in the summer time. GREAT suits that are not $200+ like I find at other stores. I also love that I can pop up stairs and grab a kids toy or outfit everytime I need a quick gift (coupons dont apply on Disney Btw, understandable). Speaking of coupons, they are constantly giving them out. Ive heard theyre not doing well, which makes me sad but Im also taking full advantage of the sales. I took my granddaughter and nieces to take their annual summer pictures. We were all really disappointed that on the group shot that most of the pictures weren't usable. I will say the photographer tried hard but either the baby wasn't smiling ory other nieces glasses were fogged. In fact, the only picture that was ok to use was one of the ones that you could see her glasses were still fogged. I had a coupon through them and even after saying what I wanted to spend the person kept changing backgrounds and things trying to get me to purchase more even though I was specific in saying that I wanted to walk out the door with purchasing only a certain amount. Today I called the studio to ask if my pictures had come in yet but they said to call back after 3 when the shipment came in. I called at 4:05 giving ample time for the shipment to come in and was asked for my name and a phone number so they could call me back. I sure do miss Picture People read more
