They may be reasonable in price but we had a really bad experience with this company. I'm shocked they are affiliated with such a reputable company like Allied Van Lines. We had to store our items in the truck at their facility for 5 days. The day of the move in, we realized that a lot of valuable things went missing. Power tools, TV, kitchen appliances, jewelry cabinet, etc. They say their facility is gated, secure and locked down but it is not. I went and parked in their lot to find employees driving their personal vehicles in and out of the building. Strange isn't it? I happen to get one of the movers cell phone number (he paints on the side) and he told me when they brought the van in, he told the owner that the lock on the truck was broken. read more

We just finished using this company and need to give them a shoutout for their amazing work. We received our estimates, COI, and had all questions answered in a very timely fashion prior to the move. The price was fair for their services. The movers, specifically Emerson, was efficient, neat, respectful, knowledgeable and very hard working - not to mention so nice. This is a moving company we used for a move from N.J to Florida in December. . One of our boxes was not delivered. I spoke to their so called customer service department, some lady named Jean Marie. Explained the problem and she told me she would handle it and get back to me.I have spoken with her well over 10 times. They claim they know where the box is but are unable to contact the customer it was delivered to or the driver of the van. It's now february 18, 2011 and still have not received my property. I understand things can get lost and That's OK, but this company doesn't seem to care whether your stuff gets to you or not. It should be simple.... Point A to Point B. ... Not rocket science. Please Read This Before Hiring This Mover! I contracted JD Carton to manage the move from my home in Staten Island NY to my new home in Bellmore NY. Due to the timing of the closing date for my new home, it was necessary to put my belongings in storage for a period of approximately one month. The first phase of the move occurred on June 27, when all of my belongings were picked up from my old home on Staten Island. All items appeared to be tagged and inventoried as they were being put on the truck to be moved to their storage facility . I arranged for the second phase of the move to Bellmore NY for July 25. When the items were being removed from the truck, no one was checking off the items versus the orignal inventory. Then I began noticing many boxes coming off the truck that were completely mutilated and re-taped. Several rather expensive items were heavily damaged, and many more were completely missing. I reported this to the company and given some claim forms to fill out. No one seems interested in resolving this matter and once I reported this to the Better Business Bureau, no one will even return my calls anymore. read more

Yesterday was day 2 of my family's move from Harding Township, NJ to Bernardsville, NJ. We hired JD Carton based on positive reviews we had read and based on Michael Gionis' (JD Carton moving consultant) pre-move visit to our home. He knew that our job would take two days & he knew what resources would be required to complete the move. He didn't waste my time and he was super responsive. I wish I had met him 3 moves ago. Our closing got delayed and I had to change our move date at the last possible second...literally at 5pm the day before the move. I was stressed beyond belief as we were moving mid-school-year with many uncertainties including weather. Michael bent over backwards for us, pulling strings & doing anything he could to accommodate us & put me at ease. He didn't let-on that he had to do some things to make it work out but I'm positive that he did. He was on top of it, no question. He told me not to worry & said that they would move us on whatever day & time worked best for us. He told me a couple of funny personal "move" stories that completely put me at ease. He took a huge weight off of my shoulders and made me laugh. I can't thank him enough for this. Two days ago, Collington Hall (move lead), Bratrem Cummings, Rascell, Tracy-Ann Hemm & Luis Castellon showed up at my house to move our life. This awesome crew did an amazing job. It's crazy entrusting everything you own to complete strangers and these complete strangers I would now do anything for. They are 100% trustworthy and a lot of fun to be around. They went above and beyond...no joke. I love these people. Rascell checked in with me to be sure everything was going to the right place. He clearly cared and consistently wanted to do a great job-to the very end. As I was fading, he was not. Tracy-Ann is the biggest sweetheart. She befriended my crazy dogs and was so great with my daughter. She's a fantastic, genuine, strong woman with great positive energy! Luis was the master at organizing and prioritizing things. He was always smiling and was a pleasure to be around. Bratrem is hilarious. He is all heart with superhuman strength. It was so cool to see this team work together. They really care about each-other and they really cared about us. Collington reminds me of Samuel L Jackson. He's a baddass who's got it all together & he is a fantastic leader. If I'm ever in a foxhole I'd call on this team to get me out of it. Bottom line...everything is exactly where it should be. Nothing is broken. This company is terrible. Did a local move with them and couldn't believe how much of my stuff got broken or damaged. The movers were literally throwing the boxes to each other in a effort to save time, which I never understood since they get paid by the hour. They also left stuff on the truck when they were finished which had to be delivered to me later, but only after weeks of being told by the office staff that nothing was left behind. When I called about the large amount of damage to my stuff, they said it was my fault that I didn't buy the insurance from them (even though their sales rep told me it was not necessary) and that I should go through my homeowners insurance. They also have another tactic which I've seen them do on other review sites where they have fake reviewers make up fake reviews and post them in order to boost their score. This is a dishonest and poorly run company that should be avoided at all costs. read more

Do not us JD Carton & Sons. (only gave 1 star because you cannot give 0) This was the worst customer service experience I've ever had. The sales man was extremely pushy and hesitant to answer any of our questions regarding their legal terms and insurance coverage. Never a good sign but we went forward with them because of the national presence. That was a HUGE mistake! Where do I start...The movers that picked up our items left spit out sunflower seed shells all over our apartment. We had to have professional cleaners come in to get these up. Then there was almost no communication while our truck was in transit. When we were a week out from the last estimated arrival date, we decided to call for an update on the truck status. After 2 emails and 2 phone calls over 4 days to our moving coordinator, we reached out to our sales manager asking to have someone contact us as soon as possible. The general manager, Dominic, responded to me via email and gave me a lofty update on the status of our truck, saying it would be there on Thursday. I was pretty upset and wanted to speak with someone. He was on vacation the following 2 days so he said we could talk on Tuesday. On Tuesday when he called me, it turned into him screaming at me and claiming to have been very communicative with me. I guess their company standard is okay with leaving a customer phone call unreturned for 4 days. So as it turns out- our truck had been in the shop for 10 DAYS!! No one at JD Carton or Allied headquarters seemed aware of this, or if they were, then they lied to us about the status of our truck. Our truck driver claimed they knew about this well in advance and he did not know why they didn't tell us about it. Also, our truck driver told us that his paperwork said to pick our items up in Newark, DE so he went there on our move date to find out our stuff was really in VA. So our items sat in a warehouse for 3 days until he could make it down to VA. I've brought this up multiple times as the reason for our delayed truck. The response I get is: "Weather and mechanical issues were what delayed your truck so legally we do not have to reimburse you." They do not care about any of their mistakes, they are just happy that the truck did have mechanical issues that they can hide behind. Lastly, the paperwork was completely wrong! It had the wrong phone number, contact and price on it! Luckily we paid by credit card in advance or else we would not have been able to keep our things or would have had to pay hundreds more than we were supposed to! We used this company for a cross country move from NJ to CA. Needless to say it was one big mess. Amongst property damage, lost items being hung up on by their custiomer service specialist, misinformation over and over again and a very late arrival....I still do not have all my items, centimental items that cannot be replaced, items I know were in boxes that were now missing such as engraved baseball bats that I bought in Cooperstown for my two young boys never arrived but the stands that were in the same box did....hmmmm. In any case I reached out to their customer service specialists, CEO, COO, Head of Sales with the note below (Email was sent on 3/7 - no response to date) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ms. Kane, This is contradictory to the information the Allied Accident Reporting agent provided. The claim form deals with items that were shipped and damaged/lost. I will be dealing with the Sedgwick claims directly moving forward as I do not trust the competence of yourself and JD Carton. As a customer service "specialists" I find your practices to be unprofessional and rude. Please note we will be filing an official complaint to Allied against you and JD Carton for the following: 1. Hanging up on a PAYING customer. 2. Unprofessional movers in NJ. The movers themselves argued with the driver throughout the move making my family, including a 5 and 2 year old extremely uncomfortable in my own home. The movers and driver spoke unprofessional against eachother to me directly shooting insults back and forth. 3. Lack of following through and communication regarding our delayed shipment. We were notified the day of that our shipment was being delayed while the driver remained 15 hours away. A days work was missed due to the delay in communication. 4. The sales tactics used by your department to obtain our business. More specifically the additional permit cost. The sales representative assured us there were no additional costs. Finding out of this cost one day prior to our already delayed shipment. 5. The incompetence of the driver for the damages. Moving an 18 wheeler with the center doors open and ramp out - knocking down my mailbox and chipping the slate up my walkway to the house. 6. The inaccurate information provided by you regarding our damage claim. 7. Through this process we continued to ask for a supervisor for reassurance and to escalate the above. This was avoided and never provided. Please be assured that the above will be communicated and dealt with at the highest level possible. I have also read similar cases on yelp about yourself and JD Carton. Perhaps a revamping of JD Cartons business model and hired help is needed. Mike was so professional with his wisdom of moving, helpful hints, and providing me with my paperwork in a timely fashion. Finally, Spencer Mathis, from Allied Movers, put it all together. I opened up a yelp account JUST to write this review for jd carton AND sons. I want to warn anybody who might think of using this company to please think TWICE. We thought thought that using a "family run" business would be better (thus the name- carton family AND sons) but it's actually NOT b/c if you have a problem with this company, NO ONE WILL LISTEN TO YOU b/c they are ALL connected & looking out for each other & their profits. It's all good to have family loyalty but NOT when it comes to customer service. This means that even if their family members are in the wrong, they will cover each other & NOT care a BS about you, their customer. Wait.. there is no customer service in this company. Just try using them & when there is a slight problem of any kind-- they will turn their heads 360 degrees & turn into a completely different being like the exorcist. I feel bad to write a bad review BUT we were SO conned by this company. Their estimation of our move was TOTALLY off. The guy John said that we would not have to pay "more than 10% of our estimated costs" in the case of any extra charge. I thought that was pretty safe since our cross country move was expensive. But not the case! They send this ridiculous bill for $4,000 saying that they "understimated" our original weight. I told the customer rep. that John guaranteed not to charge more than 10% of our original estimate and the lady got angry & said there was no such thing. I told her to ask John but NO ONE would allow me to talk to him. They all covered up his shady business practices and when I wrote an email about this to the VP Brian (one of the sons or someone) , I don't get a reply- nothing. It's like they don't care about customers b/c we moved out of the NJ area. But you fellow NJ-ites, take heed-- they will smile & be the most pleasant sales people when the are coming in for the kill but once they have your money, they will ignore you as if you had the plague. We recently moved from a 2 bedroom apartment in NJ to a 4 bedroom house in Long island. We had three movers arrive on time (a little early actually) and got right into it starting with helping me carry my cats and fish to my car. Things were packed pretty well for them (which I think needs to happen to expect a good move) and they worked non-stop for hours loading the truck. I think the amount of stuff we had was slightly underestimated as they could have maybe used another hand? My husband rode with them whole time and when he got to house said what a great bunch of guys they were. When they arrived at house they listened patiently of where things went. Never sensed aggravation or displeasure with the job although I think it was taking a lot longer than they expected. Put everything together perfectly and absolutely nothing was damaged, which is always pleasing. I would recommend this company to anyone. We got a great deal and great movers. read more

I would strongly recommend against anyone using this company. Below is a description of the awful experience that I had with JD Carton. The packers showed with absolutely no idea of what they were supposed to do. Other than the address they had no information. The lead of the crew asked multiple times "Are you sure this a full pack?". The packing crew did not show up with the correct materials. They did not bring any wardrobe boxes for our clothes or a TV box. The packing crew did not show up with enough boxes. One of the members of the crew had to leave to go get more boxes. This extended the time it took them to pack. Boxes were not properly marked. I ended up with multiple boxes marked either "Pots and Pans" or "Dishes" that did not have those items in them. Many boxes were just marked "Miscellaneous", there appeared to be no rhyme or reason why anything was marked as it was. Boxes were not properly packed. It appears that about halfway through the pack the team got tired of wrapping things and just started throwing everything in boxes. The packers did not show up with our original estimate. When I asked if the number of boxes was about what was estimated I was told, "I don't know, I don't have your estimate". The problems continued the day of the move. The movers showed up an hour late. I had agreed with the salesman that JD Carton would provide a team of six movers, four showed up. After about two hours another two movers showed up, this lengthened the time it took us to move. The movers did not show up with wardrobe boxes. I was told by the packing team that the moving team (since the packers failed to bring boxes to pack our clothes) would bring them. According to the lead on the moving crew "They never told us to bring wardrobe boxes". The team rigged up a TV box to hang some clothes and others were put in boxes. I believe this led directly to some of our clothes being lost on the move. A number of items of clothing seem to have been lost at some point in transit. The movers did not show up with any tools. Again I was told by the crew foreman that the packers are suppose to provide this information and did not. I had a bed frame that needed to be taken apart, I had to borrow tools from one of the maintenance men in my building to allow the bed to be taken apart. Items were lost in transit . A couple of lamps and a number of items of clothing were lost. I received a number of different quotes for this move, there were many other providers that were considerably less expensive. Considering what JD Carton charges, this kind of experience is unacceptable. Since the move I have tried to contact Brian, a VP at JD Carton. I have emailed him twice and left two voicemails. He refuses to respond. This is a company that should be avoided like the plague, they do not value their customers. read more

If I could give this company less than 1 star, I would. We prepared to move for about two months and was in constant contact with John Paul. Two days before the trucks were supposed to be here, we talked to John Paul, making sure of the time. Moving day comes and no truck. We call to find out where they are and turns out their internal lines of communication got crossed and they put down our move date for the wrong month. We called the main company because here we were, in a complete bind. We needed to be out by noon the next day. They were completely unhelpful, basically asking what we wanted them to do about it in a very snotty manner. They couldn't do anything for two weeks and that's that. In a house we have lived in for over 30 years, this was not a simple move and it was an emotional one. I want to thank this poor excuse for a company for making a difficult time even more difficult. Even though we are moving out of the area, I will make sure no one I know EVER uses this company. I have never, in my life, had an experience such as this. Oh and the best part? They moved us from NYC to San Francisco and were horrible. Our stuff was stored in a warehouse for a few nights before the driver came out to SF. He called us to let us know that there was an item missing from the manifest. He said the manifest said "storage bin", and I knew exactly what went missing. It was my husbands box of childhood video games, well worth over $2000, though considered priceless to us of course. We paid for insurance of course, and when we filed a claim, they denied it, saying that they had no way of knowing what was actually in that box because they didn't pack it. Are you kidding me? They didn't even apologize. We had lawyers write letters and considered arbitration, though we were told it wasn't worth it for the value of the items stolen. They wrote us a check for the cost of the insurance, and we're still missing the precious items stolen by their employees. I wish I could go back in time and not hire them. Seriously, AVOID doing business with these scumbags and their dishonest employees. Unless that is, you want to lose $2000 worth of priceless childhood items, spend your time scouring craigslist for your stolen items, and shed a lot of tears. read more

Used this company through Allied (they sub-contract) for a move from NJ to Boston. The movers were pretty quick and very nice. Things went relatively smoothly. Only hitch was the size of the truck that showed up since I had advised the company the driveway of the townhouse development was small and tricky. We worked through it though. I move from a small three bedroom on the second floor to a small two bedroom house. I had everything packed and ready for the move, but once the drivers got there, everything fell to pieces. One of the movers was an older man who was clearly not happy about moving things down stairs. They both immediately called their bosses saying that there were to many items and that I lied about how much stuff I had. I don't know how I can lie when I showed the estimator everyhthing I had. After discussing options with their boss, my options were to have a third person show up, or just let the guys go. I was already afraid of going over on cost, so said that a third would have to do. After, a few more minutes of bitching from the movers, I decided that someone had to do something. So I started bringing down boxes. Yes, I became the third mover. Great deal for the older mover! Now, he could stay downstairs and "load"the truck while my wife, myself, and the other mover did the work. After that, they couldn't figure out how to get my couch down. 45 minutes later and one destroyed hallway and couch, the decide to go out the other stairwell... 15 minutes later, they had it out and destroyed that hallway. Now, they are all loaded and we are very close to my five hour window. They say they are taking an hour for lunch, but not worry, that isn't charged. At this point, my only option is for them to just unload everything into the living room and run. When it came time to reconcile the bill, I was furious. First thing he does is charge me with a starting time of 8:30. That is the time they showed up, but after bitching and crying on the phone with their boss, we didn't move one thing until 9. Then, he only docks a half hour from their time for lunch. $150 over budget, $1500 in damages (and counting) at my old place, and still nothing from their "claims" department on the fixes. Worst. Showing up late, broken furniture, scratched/damaged walls/stairs during move in, SLOW, SLOW personnel who seemed like the walking dead. I just used JD Carton to move and was satisfied.Jonathan the sales agent was wonderful.There were a few minor glitches but the moving crew improvised and did an excellent job.They actually did the move out under difficult conditions as the place had so many rules.The move in to The new place was much easier.They finished in a timely manner.They had excellent suggestions where items should go.I felt bad for them as I knew the grueling Traffic conditions they would contend with in a Truck heading from Rockville Centre LI back to NJ.Dana was wonderful to.Jeanne Marie mostly went through Dana, but showed a concern for my general health which I found heartwarming and amusing as well.Out of 100 I would give it a 95 or 96 and that's an A.I was satisfied,and would use them again. read more

I did a very local move in the same town with J.D. Carton and was very impressed with 4 guys who did my move. I moved few times before and had few really bad experiences, so I was a little nervous. But everything went well. The movers were extremely professional and worked 10 hours straight, taking only 15 minutes for lunch. I only needed to move furniture and didn't need them to pack a lot of small items. But whatever needed to be packed was packed and they didn't charge me for packing material wich was a nice surprise. Never use this company! I contracted them through Allied Van Lines, and they gave me a Total Price Guarantee move contract. However after they moved my belongings they charged me more than double (over $3300. more) than my contracted price and didnt even have the decency to contact me or tell me! They just charged my card. I've been disputing this for months and this company has actually falsified documents with my signature on them! Very poor business practices, no communication, and Illegal charges. Never Ever use this company! and Never ever give them your credit card number. Jut outrageous. read more

firstly, two of the three movers were extremely rude and barely spoke english. i gave the company specific instructions about the size of the items, and that one piece would need to be taken apart - they showed up without a clue, and didn't even bring tools. they got lost on their way to the house and the driver was yelling that i gave him the wrong address - which is not the case. the address was also listed on the contract that he showed me...he just refused to believe that was the correct address. my father had to get in his car and go find the truck, so they could follow him to my house. when they finally arrived and started moving furniture into the house, we found that they lost some screws along the way to put the bed back together, they broke/scratched/chipped multiple pieces of furniture, and they scuffed up numerous walls in the house. my father and i also had to help them put the bed back together - they were putting the headboard on upside down, even though i handed them the directions and they took it apart to begin with! completely incompetent. after that, they slapped me with a hefty bill of 100/hr for labor - 5 hours which were lost due to their own fault. i spoke to one of the managers who REFUSED to knock off more than 3 hours and made a big deal about how it would "come out of his own pocket." stay away. rudest company ever and HORRIBLE customer service. read more

I know most customers are more inclined to write negative reviews about experiences, so hopefully this one can provide a broader insight on some of the good things we experienced with JD Carton. My wife and I hired this company through their affiliation with Allied Van Lines. I thought they did an outstanding job coordinating and executing my recent move from NJ to MD. The pick up an the delivery of our items were both on schedule and efficient, and the movers were excellent all around. There was also some pretty efficient communication through dispatch, which allowed me to coordinate the parking of the moving truck with our local police department (small and tight streets; had to reserve parking space for a few hours). Upon delivery, nothing was missing or damaged. The only moving "casualty" was a broken drinking glass that I didn't pack properly. They may cost more than other movers, but I thought the service was well worth it. As many of you know, moving is one of the most stressful situations to be in, but these guys made it just a little easier with their efficiency and overall customer service.
