I needed a tire patch on short notice, and Jd's said they were free and to come on down that same Monday morning. Quick, thorough, checked that the patch was good with soapy water, showed me the screw that had gotten stuck in the tread, and told me a bit about how the patch worked. Reasonable price. These guys charged an elderly woman $30++ simply to place in her new car battery (purchased next door at Napa) for a 15-year old Corolla. Seems a bit excessive to me for a 5-7 minute job and when I called them to ask about it they were dismissive and pompously asked "Why didn't you do it yourself then??" Not helpful. Was he trying to shame me? SHAME ON YOU SIR. I live several hours away but it's a good indication of what kind of people you are dealing with here. JD is my boy, and is yours too, whether you know it or not. I had popped two - TWO - tires rolling through some rough roadwork in Maynard during my evening commute. Being a young adult with minimal automotive repair experience, I was completely flustered and very close to panic territory as I sat there for an hour waiting for AAA to show up. After a long, humiliating tow back up to Chelmsford, during which I hastily researched any and all nearby auto repair places that could help, I settled on JD, going off nothing more than the glowing endorsements I saw here. I left my car parked across the small side street where his shop resides and called my girlfriend for a ride home. I called at the crack of dawn the following morning, and despite having left my car there with zero exchange of words, JD had already taken a look at it and given it a proper diagnosis. Following a quick in-shop post-mortem, he carefully explained to me the nature of the damage that my tires had sustained - FUBAR, to put it lightly - adding that his daughter had experienced similar problems with her tires. He sold me on some Cooper tires, which I later confirmed to be the most economical and reliable option, and presented me with a final bill that was barely above the cost of the tires themselves. He did not try to up-sell me on any unnecessary services or superfluous parts. Having had my first encounter with JD that morning, I was able to drive my car off the lot that same evening with my two brand new tires rotated into my setup. A few months later, I found myself in need of an oil change and a renewed inspection sticker, so naturally, I hit up my boy. He informed me that he is unable to perform state inspections, but rather than tie me down to perform the oil change, he simply recommended a place down the street that could do both for me. To recap, this man started getting my whip game proper before I had even woken up, installed the perfect tires for the perfect price that same day, and in the face of potential profit, directed my business down the street to make my life easier. Funny story is that I used to use another mechanic even though I lived in the apartments behind J.D's. I happened to be recommended to him by more than a few people in Chelmsford who sore glowingly about him. I took in my old car, which was a Maxima for some suspension work. J.D was so helpful and I was also pleasantly surprised when he quoted me a sum that was surprisingly lesser than most other places (I had two estimates). Very efficient, cost-effective and the best. I'm glad I went to J.D that time. Been going to him ever since. To the extent that any major work my new Accord needs, I plan my trip from upstate NY so that it coincides with visits to the neighborhood so that I can get my car done by J.D. It's worth the drive to know that your car is not only in great hands, but a trustworthy one. read more

I came in this afternoon without an appointment and asked if it was possible for someone to check my tires (the tire light was still on even though I'd checked and filled the tires with air several times). John was SUPER nice and helped me out right away. He immediately calibrated the air on my tires and explained the right amount to put into each as he did so. John has worked on four of our family cars over the years, two Dodge Caravans and two Toyota Corollas. This is what you need to know about John: - He does the work you and he ultimately decide on. - He doesn't do work that you didn't request. - And he does the work at a very fair price. - People love John and his staff. Customers bring lunch, snacks, baked goods etc because they are so happy to deal with him. - I'm sure there are other personable technicians and small business owners out there but none are more likeable and agreeable to be around than John. None. - John is always willing to stop what he's doing to perform quick triage or answer any questions you bring to him at a moment's notice. Took my 2010 Toyota 4Runner there to have them fix my rear brakes and check out a problem with a front end clunk. I had previously taken the 4Runner to another shop for the clunk fix where they incorrectly diagnosed the issue as bad sway bar links. I paid for the replacement and no change. Then I went to a Toyota dealer and they said I had bad front struts, for which they wanted $1,100 to replace! Third time turned out to be the charm, as after taking my truck for a quick test drive, JD's said it was bad front sway bar bushings and not the struts. Turns out they were 100% correct, and now I have a nice quiet truck, and the fix, along with new rear brakes, was done quickly and for a fair price. Great place. read more

I took my car to JD's this week to have the ball joints replaced. I'm very happy with the level of professionalism, pricing, and the quality of the work. Previously I had taken my car to the Nissan dealership and they wanted almost $1200 to replace the ball joints on each side. John did the same work for $600. JD was an accidental find. My son locked his keys in his car at a self service gas station and AAA said he did not have an active account (even though I just bought his one for his birthday 2 months prior) so was directed to a small garage behind the gas station. John slim jimmed the car open and he was on his way(not offering anything to John).
