Went last night for drinks with friends. Ordered a Bahama Mama cocktail and, while it was delicious, I'm not sure there was any alcohol in it. Seemed just like fruit juice. I didn't say anything and just drank it anyways. I'd give Jefe's another try. My shrimp cocktail was also tasty. I asked the waitress for some more chips which I never received. I had not been to Jefe's for about 20 years. Decided tonight to give it another try. BIG mistake. I ordered the chili relleno filled with steak. The steak smelled/tasted rancid. I tried two bites. I NEVER send food back in a restaurant but I did so tonight. Asked our server to replace it with Tri Color enchiladas. My dining companions, in the meantime had finished their meals. I had still not received a replacement meal. We opted to leave. They did not charge me for the chili relleno which was nice, but I left this restaurant without eating anything. Very disappointing. The food is pretty good here. Management is always friendly to customers. Music isn't super loud so we can still talk at our table.

We had the sampler and the tortilla soup. The soup bowl was the size of a human head.... And it was filled with hot steaming deliciousness. Husband said the sampler was really good. Chips and salsa were good. Everything was fresh. Service was excellent. And price point was appropriate! read more

Way better than el Tapatio. I had the chicken fajitas. Yummy delicious. Nicely spiced. The refried beans were actually good and looked like beans. Mexican rice was also very flavorful. Hubby ordered tostada but wasn't happy with the ground beef and not shredded beef (but then again he didn't have his glasses on) All and all I was surprised. Being from southern CA. I tried placing a pick up order over the phone today and I guess the restaurants phone was down/not working. No big deal, I just drove myself up there to place my to-go order inside. This was around 11:45 am- 12pm. I walked in and was greeted by the host who was very kind. She asked if I had called in my order and I let her know the phone was down and I would have to place my order inside the restaurant. She directed me towards the bar to place my order, and had said that the older woman also sitting up there had said the same thing. I went to the bar to place my order and when the woman working behind the counter approached me and said "hi, what can I get for you?" I responded with "Hi, can a get a tri color en-" and was rudely interrupted. She put her hang up and did that awful taken aback look that people do when they're startled or someone is too much for them and said "woah, first of all what's your name". Clearly if I had already had a pick up order ready, I would have told her I had a pick up order and stated my name. Let's use our critical thinking skills for one second. I told her my name and said I needed to place a to-go order and that the phone wasn't working. The older woman beside me then stated that the same thing happened to her and added that maybe they just needed to call the phone provider to fix the issues, but she was rudely interrupted as well and the server said "don't worry we got it". It was extremely rude, there is absolutely NO place to treat customers who are keeping your business open like this. The food was good and came out fairly quick after I ordered it, but this place gets a 1 star for how I was treated and how I saw the woman beside me at the bar being treated. She tried to apologize and say that she thought I was one of the "Christmas orders", but I'm pretty sure everyone can state for themselves if they are. I don't want to go to a restaurant and get looked at like that or treated the way I did. So keep that in mind when you go here. read more

Food was very good. Our server Myra did a great job for us. Unfortunately the restaurant was down some staff, as many restaurants seem to be struggling during and post-COVID, so it took a long time to get our food. But I'd definitely go here again and give it another try for better service. Monterrey Chicken was super-flavorful, good and spicy, and the meat was tender. Salsa was tasty and chips fresh. We watched many tables seated and served around us while we waited even though we were seated at least 20 min before they arrived. It was OK. The food was a little more expensive than I would have liked. The food wasn't great. I had a supreme burrito. The burrito was huge, but not very flavorful. I think they use canned jalapeños in their meal, they just really overpowered the other flavors in the burrito. I love jalapeños, but not like this, it was really disappointing. They were a little understaffed, the restaurant was probably a third full when I got there and there was only one waitress and she was having to be the hostess as well. It took probably five or six minutes to get seen to. A second waitress showed up about halfway through my meal and things seemed to run much smoother for everyone else then. I don't have any specific complaints about my waitress, she was very nice, but also very busy, so it took a little bit for water refills, etc. After putting my order in, it only took 15 minutes for it to be brought out. Can't argue with that. This wasn't a terrible experience, but I do think I can eat better and cheaper food elsewhere. I probably won't be back. read more

My friend and I came to Jefe's on a Saturday for a late lunch. They have a menu with lots of options, good prices, and decent Mexican food. I had a margarita, which was average, and the enchilada plate, which was also average. My friend felt the same way about her enchilada plate. The service was good. They weren't very busy and our server came to take our order quickly, and we got our food very quickly. I struggle with Mexican or Tex-Mex in Wichita Falls, so was happy to try a new place after someone else recommended it to me.I would definitely say it's better than some of the other places in town. Tried a new entry today. Recommend by our tattoo artist, Danny. It was okay, liked the atmosphere, not very busy for a lunch on a Saturday. I am still getting used to the different flavors or different cultures. People hear "Mexican Restaurant" and automatically assume it is all the same. As a Midwest Nebraska transplant to Texas, I know what we had where I grew up, and very little of that could fall under the category or authentic. Working as a Chef and learning flavor profiles has helped me broaden my expectations. There was something in the refried beans that had a smokey flavor, I don't think it was Chipotle as there wasn't much kick to them. The taco meat was flavorful, but the meat to masa ratio in the Tamales was way to masa. I can make better at home. The sauce over the Tamales was actually very tasty, dark like a mole` but not chocolate. In all there wasn't much that would draw me back in for another visit. read more

So we came back to order food for to go and while waiting we ordered margarita and then asked if we can get some of the chips and queso we ordered ahead of time. The lady said no because our order was for to go!!!! My husband said why can't we get it ahead of time? We ordered food, we are already paying for the chips and queso so why can't we have it while waiting for our food? The lady eventually gave in! Glad I came here. In town for a few weeks and I was looking for a good Mexican spot. Coming from South Dakota where there is none anything will do. However, I'm glad I chose this as my first stop for food. I got a prickly pear margarita, and a chicken fajita. the chicken itself was large and I still had an entire meal left over. Once again Jefe's did not disappoint. I have no complaint about any of it. Service was great, drinks and good delicious. That mango margarita hit the spot on this almost 100° day! Queso, guacamole, Jefe fajitas and Jefe sampler plates superb. We live several hours away but every time we are in the Wichita Falls area we make it a point to stop in. Never have we received such poor service in my life. We couldn't get drinks refilled, the waitress would not return to the table (until it was time for the check), and when we needed something, we got major attitude. We even overheard our waitress complaining about us. And we didn't ask for anything but more tortillas for fajitas! Seriously, terrible service.
