I have been to Jefferson Vineyards a few times now, and the view and wine have made me a repeat customer. Really like their Viognier and Pinot Gris. They've made a Riesling before too that is quite good - it's dry not sweet. The grounds are lovely, although the tasting room is rather small. Tastings are $10 and you get to keep the glass. I also appreciate that they are pet friendly, so I can bring the pup to enjoy the vineyard. read more

A nice view and reasonable wine. We went to Jefferson Vineyards on a Sunday afternoon during the Covid-19 pandemic and they were able to accommodate us without a reservation. This winery has a great view of the mountains and plentiful outdoor seating at this time. The staff were all wearing masks and enforcing good social distancing. I enjoyed visiting Jefferson to the point that I even bought a bottle which I usually never do. Fun place for a girls winery trip! (Guys you're always welcome too). The flowers were pretty! Even though it's a smaller winery still a good place to sit back and relax while enjoy the view of the mountains. The wine was good! The parking lot was pretty small, but they did have someone directing traffic. I'd come back again to visit while in town. read more

Beautiful vineyard that's only a 15 min drive from Charlottesville. Came here on a whim and ended up having a fantastic time! The view is absolutely gorgeous. You're surrounded by mountains and overlooking a field full of cows grazing. There's plenty of outdoor patio seats as well as places to picnic. Not quite enough indoor seating though. We got the Pinot Gris and really enjoyed it! It's a crisp, fruity wine with just the right amount of sweetness and tartness to it. Relatively cheap too- $20 for the bottle. Service was okay. The bartender doing the tastings was friendly and let us have a taste of the wine before our purchase. The guy at the cashier seemed standoffish and kind of rushed us out it seemed. There's some snacks for purchase but not a whole lot of food options otherwise. Great winery overall- can't wait to come back and enjoy the nice summer view! read more

My wife and I stopped here on a Saturday afternoon. We arrived around noon and easily found parking. They have set up several tent and table areas in the field which was really a enjoyable experience. I'm not much of a wine fan but my wife enjoys these things. We ordered a sample flight of four wines, found a nice seat in the field and enjoyed the mid day. Very nice staff and great day. read more

We loved Jefferson! My boyfriend and I came here on a Thursday afternoon on our way from DC to Shenandoah National Park. It's a beautiful vineyard. The tasting room is sized to fit ~20 people id say. I think they do have a large tasting room open on the weekends. The staff was lovely. They allowed us to taste a few wines in order to choose which bottle to buy. You also can do a tasting for $12pp which includes the glass. But, this time we wanted to just get a bottle and relax outside. We got a bottle of the Meritage, which was light and earthy. There are several Adirondack chairs through the expansive outdoor grounds. We went to two together, sipped our wine, breathed the fresh air, and watched the cows across the way. It was one those moments where you realize "this is what life is about." Truly enjoying every minute. We got a second bottle to take with us- the petit verdot, which was another red we had tried and enjoyed. Highly recommend for a nice day which you can sit outside!! We will be back :) read more

because I'm a local I love bringing people here. it's small and quaint and has beautiful views of Monticello and cows on a neighboring farm. I will say though the staff are nice until closing time. they have a hard last call 30 minutes before they close and when they close they will ask you to leave. in short do not arrive close to closing. our experience one staff membe was extremely condescending despite serving us Ie "you better be gone by 5p" not the kindest service be sure to check their actual website for closing times because they change them frequently...... read more

I wouldn't even give this vineyard a star they are not made for tours and forget about the employees especially the racist lady that doesn't do buses!!! So what does she do? It is unfortunate the amount of loss in revenue the vineyard has had from not fulfilling our reservation that was made ahead of time. We encourage the Eastwood winery they accepted us with open arms and had a place reserved for us 51 from Miami!!! We spent a good chunk of money and we even came out with souvenir wine glasses!!! Loved their Cabernet Franc the best and the setting is just so comfortable and inviting. Visited 4 wineries in Charlottesville VA this Thursday and planning to visit more in this coming month. The first stop was 1. Jefferson Vineyards Great location and beautiful view: the wine tasting was great, our guide was knowledgeable and very attentive to our questions. Overall, excellent selection of wine tasting. You can select basic wines or big red reserve tasting which I did. Plenty wines to sample. Oysters crackers to neutralize your palate between wines. You can keep your wine glass tasting. The Meritage is excellent and it was my favorite. ( interesting wine where the winemaker has blended 3 already matured wines ). I bought a bottle among other two other big Red. Of note: their wines have a large % of Petit Verdot grapes which for me is unusual being French because in France we call Petit Verdot monsieur 5% ( Mister 5%). 3-5% is the norm or less of Petit Verdot in the Bordeaux wines.( very very few wines in France with high % of Petit Verdot). Petit Verdot is a difficult grapes and a late ripping grapes in comparison of other cépages like the Cabernet Franc or Cab Sauvignon and Merlot. Nevertheless, it is interesting to have in Virginia this cépage. Loving the wines in Virginia and Jefferson Vineyards was top notch in the wine selection, friendliness and cleanliness. Great staff and definitely will return. The next 3 stops were 2.Gabriele Rausse,3.First Colony Winery and 4.Michael Shaps( see reviews). read more

Never have I ever...I guess because I didn't have on the yuppy dress we weren't treated the same as others. I'm a doctor, I just don't look like a snob. Prepare to iron your collared shirt and khakis before you come. We got to the vineyard 40 mins before they closed. We went into the tasting room to the right and were asked to go across the way because they were busy. There were TWO parties tasting and there were two people serving. We walked to the other tasting room and it was packed. When we walked back over the server that we hadn't talked to said it would be a while but it would have to be quick. 15 minutes max. His arrogant attitude turned me completely around and I told him to forget it. I'm used to vineyards that have servers who can multitask and serve multiple groups at once. Don't judge a book by its cover buddy. We are experienced wine enthusiasts who have no problem affording what we want. I'm up this way a lot and if I like a place I will pay extra to buy wine from the winery. Not to worry though I won't waste my time here again. This is apparently one of the most popular vineyards in Charlottesville, so if you are in any sort of a biggish group, good luck trying to do a tasting. I recommend that you buy lots of bottles and do a picnic instead. The great: - the scenery - the rose - probably the best wine they have - Lots of picnic space! - They were nice enough to give us lots of glasses for drinking during our picnic. - The wine bottles are beautiful... Very close to Monticello and worth stopping by for a taste of Charlottesville vineyards. We were able to catch the last tasting at 4:30 pm. Pros: -rose: mature, dry, and perfect for gift giving; great price point -woman doing the tasting was incredibly sweet and friendly -sweet white - great tasting wine with hints of lychee that permeates through your palette and settles with a warm tropical feel. -we came in January - off-season therefore not busy or crowded at all. -have limited cheeses and meats for sale Cons: -reds were just OK. Perhaps it was the cold weather dulling our tastes, but every red we've had was hard on the oak. The petit Verdot also lacked maturity and complexity that we saw others describing. May be just a mediocre year for them. They mentioned the two reds could hold up to a year or two for blooming/storage. -tasting was expensive - we thought for $10 each they should have comped one tasting for 3 or 4 bottles of wine purchased. Their deal is 5% off for 3, 10% off for 6 bottles, etc. you do get to keep the glass which is a nice souvenir!! -out of Chardonnay Tips: private parking. Tall stem glass free with a tasting. Very nice location and a worthwhile stop if you are in the area. This winery won four gold medals in the Virginia Governor's Cup. We stopped in to try some of the winners. Unfortunately, they have libraried all of the bottles of their gold medal winners, so they are not available to the general public. This is the first gold medal-winning winery that we've visited that not only doesn't showcase their winners, but hides them from public customers. read more

I've been to Jefferson Vineyards twice now. It's super close to Monticello, so if you go there on a busy summer day and have some time to kill before your tour time, Jefferson is a good place to do just that. They have two tasting rooms, and a lot of outdoor seating on a deck outside of one and a patio outside of the other. The tastings are $10 and include a larger number of vines than some of the other vineyards in the area as well as the glass. I also love that the glass has a silhouette of TJ on it. On both visits, the people who lead our tastings were very personable and really made the experience even better. The last time I was there, our tasting was lead by an older gentleman who was a retired teacher, and he did an awesome job! I loved most of the wines at Jefferson--my favorites were the Cab Franc and the meritage (pronounced as rhyming with heritage). This is a vineyard that knows how to do wine very, very well. It's probably one of my favorites for the wine and not just the overall experience. If you're doing the Monticello Wine Trail, you definitely shouldn't miss Jefferson. And, they just changed their hours, so they will now be open until 6pm. read more

We discovered Jefferson wines three years ago when we went to a wine festival at Mt. Vernon. We actually stopped at the winery in Dec 2018 and there was no one there. Bought a few bottles at that visit. Driving up to DC for the weekend, we decided to stop overnight in Charlottesville and visit Jefferson again. We arrived at 4pm on a beautiful sunny Thursday. The winery was packed! They had arranged table outside, socially distanced. They were selling tastings and bottles outside. Three cash registers and 2 or 3 people in each line. Almost every table was filled. We grabbed the last table, bought just a couple glasses of wine and enjoyed the afternoon. Before we left, we bought a bottle of our favorite petite verdot, to drink later. IMO this is the best wine in Virginia. read more

Right down the road from Monticello is Jefferson Vineyards. They have one of my favorite chardonnays (if you like oak). Last time I went there though they were all out of it. They also sell this wine at the Monticello gift shop for the same price and I was able to find what I wanted there. The staff here was very friendly and even gave me a map of other nearby vineyards to check out while I was in the area. The rest of wines were still pretty good and this is one of the better places to go in the area. read more

Not sure that's ever happened before?! The fee also includes the wine glass. Tasting room is simply just that, a tasting bar with a few small souvenirs available for purchase as well. There is an overflow tasting room just across the gravel drive that offers inside seating, otherwise there's tables & chairs on the patios & deck, as well as a couple Adirondack chairs on the lawn. The ideal winery for novices due to the large sampling of wine, the large grounds, and the quality of the wines served. This was the first winery I was ever taken to in Charlottesville, and even after visiting a dozen other places this place still holds up. This is one of the most popular wineries due in large part to its proximity to Monticello and Michie's Tavern (both are wonderful and you should make it a day with those two and this winery). This place fills up early, and is a popular location for bachelorette parties and UVA students. There are two tasting rooms - one long bar in the bar and another in a smaller building off to the side. Jefferson has a large rolling lawn and frequently features live music during the summer. The tasting is a bit pricier than most other wineries, but you can't beat the variety of wine that you'll taste. You'll taste approximately 8-9 wines, and you'll run the full gauntlet - Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Meritage, etc. Although none of them stick out in my mind (except the super sweet dessert wine Vin Blanc), they are all well crafted and reasonably priced per bottle ($15.95-$29.95). You can't go wrong with Jefferson: always reliable with a variety of tastings coupled with its close proximity to tourist attractions makes this a go-to winery. read more

There are about 10 wines to taste for $10 with complementary wine glass. It was a little confusing how to proceed in the tasting room. You can pay by credit card or buy bottle/glass of wine at the cash register, otherwise you can pay cash and go right up to the tasting tables. It is a long area for about 20+ people was still packed on a Sunday. Wines were ok and I especially liked the sweet white wine. Lot of green space with several tables and other places with just chairs. We brought our own blanket and had lunch on the grass. Have to say parking lot is very crowded and there were some rude people. All is forgotten once you get some vino. read more

Visited this winery after a tour of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and it was just the right spot for a relaxing and restful time tasting wines and enjoying one of the wines with an impromptu picnic featuring cheeses and crackers purchased there as well. The server was personable and shared lots of great stories about the winery and the area. The interior is an intimate space with a long counter and some cute, clever retail items stocked throughout. It is located in a lovely setting that adds to the feeling that you have truly gotten away from crowds, congestion and commercial developments. The wines varied from really nice to not quite right for me and the prices seemed reasonable. When we arrived around midday on a weekday, only one or two others were there. But by the time we finished the tastings - and there were several wines to sample - people were lined up all along the counter which seems to indicate this place has a following. I did not like the wines here, but everyone's taste is different. We did the tasting & none were drinkable enough to have a glass... too sweet or not enough flavor and complexity... just my opinion. I like Oregon pinot noir, west coast cabs, New Zealand sauv blanc, reds from Tuscany... so if you have similar taste, this probably won't be a hit for you either. The tasting is teeny teeny tiny but you can ask for seconds lol The wines are priced right. The other patrons visiting Jefferson were a lot less roudy than Pippin. I'm throwing on an extra star because out of all wineries we've been to in Charlottsvile they are making most effort to give wine tasting and going beyond just a random person pouring wine in your glass which I can easily do at home. Super close to UVA and easy to find. We paid $5 to sample 10 different wines. Dry whites, Dry reds, and Dessert wines. You are also given the wine glass to take home as a gift. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I ended up buying a Pinot Gris, and can't wait to buy some more next time I am in town. They have a nice patio area where you can have a picnic or relax. After spending the day at Monticello, we decided to stop by the Jefferson Winery. We were having a good time, the server doing our tasting was interesting and tolerant of our joking around. The wine was actually good. The loss of three stars is entirely the fault of the douche bag manager on duty, Paul. During our tasting we had to listen to him being condescending to our server. Awkward. My husband had been offered a 15% veteran's discount, by another employee. Paul was at the register, when we asked was the discount applied to our wine purchase, Paul began questioning my husband's service, then informed us the discount was for active duty and retired only. Then he looked at our server and in classic douche bag says "That was discussed in the meeting." Absolutely unprofessional. We won't be back. read more
