Dr. Rubio and his team are great and he isn't even my regular dentist. I was surfing at Doheny on a Saturday and my surfboard smashed into my mouth, cracking my tooth half off and smashing my lip open. I was really panicking, but they were able to get me in before they closed. They were so nice, gentle, and calming (the dental hygienist did have to dab a tear from my eye). Dr. Rubio stayed past when they closed and was able to do a partial root canal, take the surfboard fiberglass out of my lip, stitch it up, glue my tooth back on, and talk me through everything really thoroughly so I could figure out a plan with my regular dentist. I hung out with friends that night and nobody could believe that I'd had my tooth and lip busted open earlier that day -- I just hope my mom doesn't find out this happened by seeing this review. Great for adults. Not for children. For children I'd recommend going to a kids dental since they are used to kids. My husband and I are loyal to Dr. Rubio's dental work. We come in for regular dental cleaning. He doesn't try to up-sale you like the majority of other dental offices. I was so tired of those offices. I always fell for it and paid like $300 for some extra stuff that I didn't need. It's so refreshing that Dr. Rubio doesn't do that. He's very nice and has a very friendly staff. Pros: *Great dental cleaning job *Doesn't try to up-sale you on expensive dental add-ons you don't need. *Friendly staff *Very cozy environment, relaxing. Feels very home-like. *Very welcoming Cons: *A little outdated but we don't mind that. It's lacking in innovation. It's a traditional office, which we like but def not like the tech savvy new dental offices we have been too in the past. Well, clearly there is not much more to be said about the awesomeness that is Dr. Rubio and the amazing staff at this dental office. Always welcoming, friendly, calm. Such a relaxed atmosphere you forget you are sitting in a dental chair about to get drilled! I love how personable they are there. I sometimes feel like I get extra chatty because they question how my weekend was or my vacation. They remember that stuff. Most of the time I am heavily caffeinated so I can be extra chatty. Dr Rubio is always very kind and personable, and has repaired my front tooth for me when the filling fell out and it was an emergency to have it fixed ASAP. I love the atmosphere and ocean view while I am getting dental work done- it makes it much more pleasant! I am a former patient of Dr. Rubio's and also a former dental school classmate of his and, and I can only say the greatest things of him as a dentist and as a person. He was consistently a top performer in our dental school class with genuine interest in learning about dentistry (winning awards along the way). His patients loved him for the care he put into every exam, restoration, and cleaning he did. He is of excellent moral character as well, and I am 100000% sure that the claims made by fake people on yelp would never happen in his office. He goes beyond the standard of care in sterilizing his instruments and takes great pride in everything in his office. I went to Dr Rubio, he evaluated my condition and quickly diagnosed and presented a treatment plan. I needed a root canal! Obviously I was worried, but Dr Rubio explained very clearly how the process worked and put my mind at ease. Dr Rubio simplifies keeping my teeth healthy and looking great. I dont normally write reviews but I was new to Dana Point last year. Me and my husband needed a new dentist. Dr. Rubio and his staff are SO welcoming and I love the care I have received there. The office is beautiful and exceptionally clean. My hygienist has really helped me get the health of my gums and teeth back. My cleanings are so much easier now than they have ever been because they gave me so much helpful information on how to keep my teeth actually clean! (Go buy a soniccare from Costco.) Dr. Rubio takes the time to really connect with me before even explaining what is going on with my teeth. Everyone is kind and courteous and makes going to the dentist a lot less stressful!! So my husband and I were on a long overdue vacation when the filling on my implant fell out, causing the whole crown to twist up to the point that my teeth didn't close together. Not exactly conducive to a romantic getaway. The wonderful husband started calling up all the dentists in the area, and, as it turns out, many are too specialized or too general to deal with a wayward implant crown. Some told us they only dealt with root canals; others, that they didn't have the equipment to handle a crown; still others, that they didn't have time to see us, could we check back in a few days (umm ... no, because we're just here for a few days, and I need to eat before then). Then there was Dr. Franke. His receptionist knew exactly what he was capable of and that we could walk right in. Even though she warned that there might be a wait, we were there all of five minutes before I was in a chair getting examined. Dr. Franke was able to not only get the crown back into position, but did so quickly, without damaging the tooth, and in such a way that my own dentist was able to pick up where he left off for the finishing touches and final tightening. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. And we can honestly say that Dr. Franke and his team saved our vacation. Thank you so much! read more
