I've been getting my glasses from Jeffery for years. He's super friendly. There's always really nice people in the shop and most of all, he does a great job. He really cares about getting the right glasses on your face. He's super kind. I want to saw him Getting the frames into the right shape for someone who had just had serious facial surgery and their features were very uneven. He was so patient and sweet to this lady and most of all, I don't know how he did it, but he made those glasses look like they were straight on her face, all the while making her feel super comfortable. I really like Jeffery. I sometimes just pop in and say hello because he's like a neighbor. I've gotten four or five pairs of glasses and he even did a pince nez for me. One time and ophthalmologist got my prescription wrong and so my glasses came back not working quite right and he fixed them for free without a single hassle. He's a very lovely guy. I visited Jeffrey's over 2 decades ago when no one could get my prescription correct. After several adjustments and in-depth analysis, the glasses were perfect. Because I am so sensitive to the slightest change in pantoscopic tilt, Jeffrey walked me through what was required if I was traveling and needed to adjust them when away from the store. As for his sense of style, Jeffrey has great taste. He once encouraged me to select a color frame I would have never selected and he was spot on.....spot on not only with frames but with lenses as well. All the beautiful frames in this store are not worth the lousy service that will follow or the belligerent store owner's inexcusable attitude. I fell in love with a $700 pair of eyeglass frames here and bought it. I only wanted to purchase the frame. I have been in the habit of buying frames elsewhere and bringing them to my optician for a very long time now. I never had a problem until I had the misfortune of meeting Jeffrey. This piece of work tells me that it is inappropriate to buy a frame from him and get my prescription filled elsewhere. Why is that you may ask? Because it does not make Jeffrey richer which is all he cares about.. He has the unmitigated nerve to tell me that he does not make enough money selling frames. Really? Is that why you are only open half a day? Because you are hurting for money? Somehow he manages to do me the favor of selling me the frames. I thought I was done with dealing with this bozo but no such luck. 6 months later while in a restaurant in South Carolina I take my eyeglasses off and the entire arm of the eyeglasses comes off. I examine it and it seemed like the screw was intact but something else was wrong. I contacted Jeffrey when I returned home and he tells me it is probably something the optician who I bought my lenses from did. I assure him that is not the problem. But he is like a pit bull and cannot drop the subject. After I text him pictures he tells me it is likely a missing screw. I examine the frames more carefully and indeed there is an additional screw that was missing. I keep spare eyeglass frame screws and I tried to find one that fit. I was able to get a screw in to hold the frame together but it was too long. I tell Jeffrey and he turns it into a federal case telling me I probably ruined the thread on the frame by using a different screw. I assured him I did not. Everything with Jeffrey is like this minor interaction. He makes a mountain out of a mole hill and over dramatizes everything. It is extremely hard to deal with this man and there is absolutely no reason to do so. Be smart, do not walk into his store and avoid the unnecessary drama and trauma he likes to dish out. I did get the right screw for my frame from him. Again, I think to myself, "Good riddance, no need to deal with him again." Don't I wish! About two weeks later I was pulling a sweatshirt with a tight neckline over my head and I forgot to remove my eyeglasses first. I felt something happen to my frames and when I take them out of my sweatshirt they do not look okay at all. They were not broken, there were no missing parts but they needed help. This time I decide to just go into his store which I did. He gave me such a hard time I could not believe it. And this was with other people in his store at the time, which tells me he is not even aware of how inappropriate his behavior is! He insists he has to charge me to look at my frames because again he tells me he does not make enough money selling eyeglass frames. He also tells me he cannot look at them now. I need to leave the glasses with him. An hour after I leave the frames with him I get a call from him. He is telling me I need to buy another pair of frames from him because the optician who put in my lenses ruined the frame and they are not fixable and he cannot guarantee me that he can safely remove my lenses from my eyeglass frames. My lenses cost $2,000. I inform him I will return and retrieve my eyeglass frames from him. I could tell from his voice and reaction that this interaction did not go as he planned. Being a real DIY kinda person I have managed to find a premium partner of the company who carries the frames nearby where I live. I manage to speak to him on the phone and inquire about a new pair of frames. In the course of speaking to him I tell him the entire pathetic story. He invites me to bring the frames into him. I do this all before I go back to Jeffrey to pick up my frames. Jeffrey had told me when he called me and tried to get me to buy an additional pair of frames from him that he broke his screwdriver while trying to get a screw out of my frames. He says that the optician who put in my lenses stripped the screw head. Nonsense! It was Jeffrey who ruined the screw head. Not only is he a charlatan in addition to a liar but completely and utterly incompetent to boot. My heart sinks as I am almost convinced they are irreparable. That is until the man in the store near me manages to fix my frames within 2 minutes flat. Let me repeat that. He fixes the frame in 2 minutes flat. No charge. No b.s.! Do not shop here. read more

Apparently, as the wood counters add to the dimly-lit setting, he exhibits high-end quality merchandise as if he sells exquisite antique Shaker chairs from the 1830s, and he lets the customer know early on that he has the chutzpah and shameless nature to impose: "You buy on my terms or don't." Certainly, there are customers in the fold: those which he has chosen to accept (lord knows how you can refuse a customer these days) and I suppose (given my first impression of him) that it is sort of a snobbish relationship that he may have with some of his return-customers. "Ah, Jeffrey. I am here with you on this fine day to view your connoisseur eyewear." "Good day to you Smedley Arrington III. But are you worthy?" Jeffrey said. "Indeed! I have brought you a Cheval Blanc 1947 Saint-Emilion if you would just grant me the favor of opening that drawer." "Indeed!" Jeffery said. "It is now open." Service here is excellent. He always helps me find the exact right eye glass frames that suit me. In addition, he takes many different kinds of measurements that insure I get optimal vision from the glasses. I am surprised at the negative reviews. I have been in the health field for more than 40 years. I go to Jeffrey to get top quality optician services from someone who also has a good aesthetic sense. Zero stars if I could. My experience absolutely lines up with everybody who called Jeffrey a used car salesman. While his front desk staff is very sweet, the first thing he demanded to know when I got on the phone was my name and whether I was a customer. When I told him, a little taken aback, that I was trying to be, he acted like I was the rude one. I inquired about contacts and he said he could provide samples but would charge $10 for them (every other optometrist I've seen gives these to you for free to make sure you get the right prescription) and then said I would have to commit to buying 6 months with him if he did this. When I asked him what would happen if the prescription didn't work, he went on a rant about people getting samples and buying them elsewhere and how unfair this was to him. I'm not surprised with his reprehensible attitude. I mentioned that perhaps sometimes people decide they don't like contacts and I clarified I was just asking about needing to update the prescription, and he started accusing me of "not working with him." I wished this incredibly antagonistic man a good day and said goodbye. To make this even worse, he came recommended as a "good friend" of my eye doctor who would treat me well, but he clearly isn't willing to work with anyone. I wish I had read all of his Google and Yelp reviews and not even bothered calling because he left such a terrible taste in my mouth. I get it, times are hard for brick and mortar and people are moving to online buying, but maybe be like other optometrists and try to work with what people are looking for rather than instantly flying off the handle and telling me to go elsewhere if I didn't like his policies. This store is run by nasty and incompetent people. I learned this the hard way today. Words cannot express how lucky they are to have even a 2.5-star rating on Yelp (as of this writing). I highly, highly recommend you not come here. The eyeglasses manufacturer OGI put a frame on hold for me at this store, which was the only reason I came here. It took me a few weeks to get to the store because it is not exactly close by. The woman behind the counter tells me, seconds after I introduced myself, that "You should have called" if I knew it was going to take that long for me to come by. In actuality, they could have called too, but I took the high road and apologized, explaining that I can typically only come on Sunday. She says, "Yes, but you still could have called." I am a customer, and I had my hand slapped twice in about 90 seconds. To try on frames, you are basically required to sanitize your face. Yes, you read that correctly. I have been to several eyeglass stores in the past few weeks, some more upscale than this one, and this is the only store that dares to ask you to do this. I asked why they cannot just sanitize the frames, like every other store, and the response was, "Sir, we have 2000 frames in the store. We cannot possibly do that." As if I was going to try on all 2000 -- or even 200 frames?! The woman watched me apply the sanitizer intensely -- as if she were helping a surgeon preparing for an operation -- instructing me to apply it around my ears, across my temples, and across my nose -- chiding me for not applying it thoroughly near the nose. The experience was dehumanizing. I then yelled at her saying, "I am not applying hand sanitizer under my eyes!" and the owner Jeffrey stood up to clarify that I only had to apply it on top of and around the sides of my nose. I then decided to leave, realizing it was not worth even trying on the frame, let alone buying it. The owner Jeffrey literally gets up, walks toward me as I am walking out the door, and yells, "THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING IN!!! YOU HAVE A GREAT EVENING, OK?!" You have been warned. i was there 10 years ago and the Mr Jeffrey tried to sell me glasses (frame only) for over $1200 without any adequate knowledge of the product. I was there recently and knowledgeable in reading and sunglass and the prices also. I found Jeffrey and his assistant extremely rude as they were suspicious of me. I seemed to know more of their glasses than them. How they survive is wonder to me when there are so many other opticals in 10025 or 10028. I would do my homework first before i go there.. read more

Following up on my review from March and April 2011, Jeffrey is now taking me to small claims court for twice the price of the glasses that he made for me that were unusable. The short version is that he didn't like the script I had from my long time opthalmologist, so he sent me to 'his guy.' The glasses based on that script were unusable. Upon returning 4 days later to ask for help, Jeffrey and his wife yelled at me, told me i was terrorizing his staff by continuing to ask questions about my glasses. I had to leave because he was screaming in front of customers and my husband and two children. I contested the charges on AMEX and the agreed with me. Now he's taking me to court. I have the glasses, pristine and ready to be returned, which I told his very nice - and sympathetic - lawyer, but Jeffrey insists on drama. Stay away. [By the way, Gary Tracy Optomotrist on Amsterdam and 74 was a saint. He played around with my glasses to try to solve the problem and found that the second prescription done by Jeffrey recommended optomotrist was way off. Did business here but like MOST opticians, the lens purchase is very uncomfortable. Everyone has these loose leafs with chart sand prices of their unequivocal choice as best lens manufacturer. They show the price differences for thickness, etc. until the lens that has it all is $500, $600, $700 or more. It feels like they feel they (all the places) can make huge mark-ups for they are so important to the process, the economy is slow, or their overhead is high. At Jeffrey's Vlad is great. If their prices were 20% less I would go there every time. Is there a high end optician that discounts a wide selection of top frames, offers choices of lens manufacturers, and let's you buy a high end less for $500? Love to know. I can't buy a $1,500 set of glasses often enough for my fashion sense in Manhattan. Exceedingly poor customer service. Jeffrey is pushy and opinionated. He claims to know more than the optometrists and made disparaging comments about them. This alerted me and my antennae went up right away. Nonetheless, since i need glasses, i continued with him. The store was poorly lit and the glasses were not available for me to try on unless Jeffrey gave them to me. But he was unfocused and distracted from me as a customer. I had to nudge him to get his attention and show me glasses frames. Finally i found a pair i liked. He said he wouldn't help me any further unless i was sure i would buy them! In a rush, i gave him a deposit and said i would return the next day to finish the purchase. That evening as i thought about my experience with jeffrey and my discomfort with him and his poor customer relations, i looked on the web and read the many negative comments which tracked my experiences. When i tried to each the store by telephone, i could not reach a live person. Finally, i wrote to Jeffrey requesting a refund. He has absolutely refused.
