Here's what happened on March 18, 2026: Quoted prices as "tax included" in writing, then later claimed taxes were never included when I declined an upsell -- I have the screenshot proving his exact words Did not complete rear brake job despite charging for it as part of a package deal -- kept the parts and never installed them Left my air filter box broken and loose after removing it, making the car unsafe to drive (documented on home security camera) Used fake terminology ("coal fiber retract") and AI-generated sales scripts to push a $1,445 engine cleaning upsell -- a second mechanic confirmed no emergency condition existed Refused to refund ~$425 overpayment, became verbally abusive via text, then blocked me to avoid resolution Posted a false discrimination claim on Thumbtack when I left an honest review Total paid: $2,400 cash. Desperate to cool off the car I stopped by Bryant Auto to see if they could take a look. The owner, Tom, took the time from another project to troubleshoot it for me. After a quick 5 minute discussion about the issue and my lame attempts at self diagnosing, he determined I'd lost all of my refrigerant. He dutifully inspected the system, performed a vacuum test to check for leaks, and reloaded the system with refrigerant. Wife and I are so thankful that he was able to squeeze us in and used his expertise to quickly take care of the problem. Highly recommend!

I should have requested the replaced parts, which other auto repair shops routinely give to customers without them asking. The $120 coil that they installed failed in 2024 (after very little use of the car), and I replaced it with a $13 coil from eBay. For all I know, we paid $457 because of a fouled spark plug.

When I went to pick up the truck because it took so long they gave me an estimate of $800 to fix the windshield wipers motor and linkage. To fix the motor they estimated 500 plus and that was after they took off the $186 they charge me to diagnose the issue. I took it in to get the windshield wipers fixed. When I went to pick it up they charged me $186 to diagnose not only the windshield wiper issue but they chose on their own to also check my brakes and something else. I did not give them permission or request to have them do this. I would not have objected to maybe $100 even though my friend diagnosed it was the windshield wiper motor simply by turning on the ignition and he heard no clicking or something like that which meant there was no power going to the box. They said they checked the wiring and the fuse even taking that into consideration I don't see where it would cost $186 for that amount of time. My main complaint is they went beyond what I asked them to do they did not quote how much it would cost to diagnose this and I've heard this from other people that they go in to have something done and they charge for diagnosing things that weren't asked for. So basically I would just warn people if you're going to take your car or truck in you should ask them what it would cost to diagnose it. In addition I had had my brakes just fixed the month before so there was no reason to diagnose it. It cost me $800 to have my brakes done they quoted me 1800. This was just for the rear brakes.

The lock on the tailgate door broke and the door would not open. Two other shops on the south end of Whidbey Island would not even attempt the job. Being 21 years old the replacement lock was not available anywhere. Stu actually manufactured a replacement lock in his shop and my vehicle was fixed the next day at a fair and reasonable cost. Bravo!! You will not be ripped off at this auto shop!!! This is not my only experience with Clinton Automotive. All have been positive!
