I've never heard of this place, but the food here was stellar. I'd describe this place as Korean seafood, with an emphasis on hoe (pronounced hwe with an accented e), which is similar to sashimi, but described as having bolder flavors, with choices like abolone, sea cucumber, and sea Pineapple, along with dipping sauces. They also make some great Korean-style fish stews. I came here with fam, but I'd been a bit lost if I came here alone. That said, the first page of the opened menu is mostly the raw seafood combo or platters, including everyone's favorite tuna, and these will probably come with a bunch of banchan and appetizers to surprise the table with, such as some skillet corn cheese. The individual meals come with some banchan too and even started us off with a fair bowl of abalone rice porridge to warm up our taste buds. For the stews, I recommend the cod spicy stew (the other cod stew is good too, just not spicy), which is far easier to eat around the bones if you're not used to seeing fish that isn't a filet. We went to Jeju-Island to have a (chaotic) family dinner to celebrate Mother's Day with a toddler in tow. The staff was very nice and took it all in stride and were very sweet throughout the meal. The restaurant decor is humble, but clean. The food came out quickly, and everything was delicious. Jeju-Island is a Korean-style sashimi restaurant, which means that if you order the sashimi platter for the table, part of the meal is all the hot food that precludes the sashimi. We started off with the abalone "juk" (congee or rice porridge). This was very good, even A liked it and he doesn't usually like abalone. The other items came out quickly thereafter and soon, our table was full of various dishes, from fried shrimp, donkatsu, braised fish, corn cheese, noodles, squid, etc. The "main dish" is a large platter with thick cuts of at least 8-10 different types of fish. The fish was all very fresh. The meal also comes with other seafood such as abalone and sea squirt. The final dish is a spicy fish stew. This was my and J's least favorite dish. We didn't think it was as refreshing and spicy as other places, but it could also have been because we were beyond full by this time. TLDR: Jeju is a great spot if you're looking for Korean style sushi/sashimi. Stick with a fresh fish combo to avoid having to think and get a full tasting experience. Personally I like the flue. Stopped in for a Friday group dinner and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked everything. The pre tax/tip came out to around $45 per person which I thought was quite reasonable. The side dishes were all pretty enjoyable but what I really liked was the sashimi was sliced super thin. This made it easy to enjoy with the dip of fermented bean paste, garlic, sesame oil and chilis. There was a good chew to the fish but not requiring too much work. It's tough to describe in words but this was a meal that I've remembered quite fondly since dining there. Will definitely be hitting up it for dinner again soon. read more

I have tried Sashimi Combo, which has Salmon, Tuna, White Tuna in it. Those are all fresh. The dish surprised me is the Sea Squirt and Sea Cucumber. This is the first time I eat Sea Squirt, it taste soft but little bit fishy. I feel like in the ocean when I had a first bite on it. Lol. I love the sea cucumber sashimi, it's chewy and fresh. I love the crab meat pasta the most, it's creamy and little bit sweet. Overall, all dishes are okay. However, since it's fully occupied indoor, we have to seat at outdoor tent. This place is so underrated and I'm so glad we went a bit away from the Main St restaurants to go here. We ordered the Seafood & Sashimi combo which came with SO MANY side dishes (all of them were seafood, served in different ways. There was the squid stirfried in a spicy sauce, fish cake kebabs, octopus in wasabi sauce, and too many others to count. After enjoying the sides, they brought out the platter, which had many pieces of various fish (incl salmon and tuna). I will say it was a bit stuffy in there and at one point was so hot, but once they turned on the AC, it felt better. The restaurant itself is clean and fairly spacious. Beer was only $4, super cheap. I saw there were also special pricing for later in the night. The waitress we had only spoke Korean, but it was not difficult to order with the menu at all. Jejudo Restaurant (or Jeju-Island) is a Jeju-style sashimi restaurant, uncommonly found in NYC. Those unfamiliar with this type of meal need to be open-minded and adventurous. Disclaimer, I'm adventurous for sure but not familiar with this style of meal. In Korea's Jeju island, there are many seafood restaurants that offer set meals accompanied by a rotating slew of side dishes and fresh, raw seafood of the day. Jejudo offers this type of set menu, which is the best thing to try. On the menu, it is one of the seafood combos where you choose size based on number of persons (e.g. $195 for 5, $170 for 4, $150 for 3, $120 for 2). We tried the "Sashimi Combo & Seafood," which came with a seemingly endless parade of side dishes, culminating in a show-stopping assortment of fresh sashimi (e.g., fluke, salmon, tuna, yellowtail) on mounds of shredded radish. It is more than enough food for most people, and I think choosing the size based on party size is reasonable. Our side dishes, which seemed to have no rhyme or reason, included eel teriyaki, grilled fish collar, conch salad, sweet and sour pork, tempura shrimp, creamed grilled corn, fish balls in soup, sautéed veggies, crab alfredo pasta, steamed egg custard, fried fish, and a tofu/radish stew. For raw fish offerings, there was salmon sushi, a medley of raw shellfish, and the sashimi platter, best had with a bit of soy and chili sauce, which all diners get and can mix to their liking. The raw seafood here is very fresh, really untouched or fussed with. By far, my favorite raw fish was the fluke, which is available on its own in the "Live Fish Sashimi & Seafood" combo. The side dishes were generally decent, and even if one isn't fond of a specific dish, quantities are small, just a piece or few bites per person. Soju is offered (not flavored ones). I had fun trying this style of Korean sashimi/seafood cuisine. Don't come if you're looking for refined raw seafood (a la Japanese omakase) or if you're with picky eaters who can't handle not knowing what's coming. But for an unfussy, relaxed, and satisfying shared group meal, Jeju-Island is a great experience. read more

They are a seafood Korean restaurant. They have fresh live seafood that you can order from the tank. What most people seem to go their for are strangely from the "Lunch Special" menu plus their sushi menu. The lunch dishes are served all day and nite. They range from $8.99 to about $30. Our favorites are the Jejudo special, tempora udon, salmon teriyaki, eel teriyaki and salmon sashimi and salmon sushi combo. After ordering many items, we especially look forward to their pasta dish. It is amazing. I love how they make this better than most Italian restaurants!!! It's a white sauce with imitation crabmeat. Today I ordered an extra one during our meal and then ordered two pasta dishes to go after we were stuffed. My kids can never enough of it too. We got the set with five different kinds of sashmi ($80 for two people, second option on the set menu), which came w salmon, tuna, yellow tail, mackrel w roe, and a white fish that I didn't recognize, and fluke. We were STUFFED to the gils... There was an assortment of sekidashi (side dishes) such as creamed corn, clam linguine, california rolls, shrimp tempura (my favorite), porridge, fish cake soup, etc. After everything you get a hot seafood stew that is so delicious but kind of impossible to finish bc of all the food you just ate. I came for the sea pineapple, but will be returning for the fresh sashimi and delicious Korean dishes. I thought I would pace myself and ordered some sashimi and sea pineapple Dupbab. What arrived was a wonderful assortment of sides, soup and sauces in addition to what I ordered that covered the entire table! Suddenly, a late lunch turned into a food eating challenge. I am not one to refuse extra food (though there are exceptions) so I dug in. About five crumpled napkins (fellow lightweights be forewarned: the spicy fish stew will make your nose run) and an hour later, I had conquered lunch, but fully expected the bill to tarnish my glory. To my surprise, the entire meal came in at under $50. There are restaurants that believe their food is good enough to neglect their quality of service. I came on a Saturday for my dad's birthday and it was empty besides one or two other tables. I'm not really head over heels for Korean hwe but my parents wanted it so this is what we opted for. We got the combo that serves 3 people for the 4 of us and it was enough for us. They serve a lot of different small dishes and the entire portion was great. One of them included raw oysters and I freaking love raw oysters but the ones they served were a bit fishy. I still ate two anyway thinking it wasn't too bad. WRONG. I ended up getting the worst food poisoning of my life a day later and my parents also ended up getting a little sick as well. I knew it was from the oysters because the only one who didn't eat the oysters was my boyfriend and he didn't get sick. We shared everything else so it had to be the oysters. So my mom called the restaurant and let them know that we got food poisoning and they didn't do anything. All they said was, "no one else called in for food poisoning". Seriously? I was literally vomiting and was on the toilet simultaneously all night when it kicked in and I thought I was literally about to die. I was in so much pain I couldn't even work for two days.
